Do NOT do this. Ensure you're using the Samsung cable and if you are try another USB port. Check to endure kies is closed using the task manager to check the processes.

samsung kies is not working on windows 8 and keeps crashing, will this be an issue? because i thought i have to run my phone in kies once before i use odin so it installs all the needed drivers correctly .
definitely need your phone to be detected first, so yeah... KIES must be installed on the machine you're doing this on.
I had to use an old PC laptop before KIES beta came out for my mac.
*ahhh the sacrifices we have to do to flash ROMs...*

[Q] Odin - "cannot connect the USB serial port. code: 32"

I'm trying to flash CWM to my daughter's new GT I5500 but keep running into the above error message. The same thing happens after rebooting the phone (into recovery download mode), with different USB ports, different USB cables and with 2 different Windows 7 PCs. Any ideas? I've used Odin 4.28 & 4.34 and have the correct Samsung USB drivers installed. Thanks
Managed to get it to work on my Windows XP laptop so it must have been a drivers problem.

Download and install Samsung kies for the drivers.
Update Keis and try again and set to download mode, maybe that will work.

Thanks, I already tried all that before posting but it didn't work. It's a bit of a pest having to boot my lappy into XP to do any flashing but at least it works.
Uninstall KIES,reboot, install KIES and driver, reboot. Plug it in to the other usb port,it should work

have you tried running as administrator in Windows 7? (right click -> run as administrator)
for me it failed with the same error till i've started running as admin.
if this doesn't work go to compatibility properties and check Always runs as administrator, then right click, run as admin.

well today i started having the same problems as you...
had try in another computer (Win7) and worked flawlessly

Updating S2 using Kies under Windows 8 Release Preview

I have installed Windows 8 Release Preview (64 bit) on my PC. I installed Kies (v2.3.2.1) so that I could upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S2 from Gingerbread to ICS. Kies installs OK and runs OK and detects my phone OK. I am told that there is a firmware update for my phone and when I proceed to downloads the firmware then... nothing. It just hangs. Kies dies (but does not close although it freezes). I have tried separately downloading the latest Samsung drivers (v1.5.4.0) and installed these too -- but the same things happens.
Is this a common problem? Or is it my PC? Is there a workaround? Cheers.

Help with soft bricked vibrant

Hey everybody. I didn't get any replies in the vibrant section, and I figured it is also an over all samsung product question so here goes. I bought a very messed up samsung galaxy vibrant t959 off a friend for $20 hoping I could fix it. They had flashed a captivate rom to it but I can still manage to get it into download mode. But heres the problem. Odin wont recognize it when I plug it in it just says windows does not recognize device has malfunctioned or something along the lines of that, the bubble shows up over and over every two seconds. I got odin to recognize it once before, but my brother unplugged it XP. Now I can not get odin to recognize it again, any tips? I have a linux computer at my disposal as well if that helps. I am familiar with flashing, odin, android sdk, adb. I know I have drivers installed good because the same cable with the same port and same computer I actually modded this same device before my friend messed it up. Any help at all would be much appreciated.

I would recommend uninstalling and then re-installing your USB drivers and see if Odin will then recognize the phone. Another alternative would be to see if Heimdall recognizes the device and use that to flash the stock ROM to the device. If you are unfamiliar on how to use Heimdall I would recommend taking a look at this guide.

Would it make a difference if I tried it on linux? I'll also try reinstalling drivers
Edit: reinstalling drivers did not work

You can try it on Linux I can't guarantee it will make a difference but I would try it anyway. If you are going to try it on Linux make sure you configure USB access for the device correctly in order for the computer to recognize your phone.

[HELP] Odin does not work properly on Windows 8.1.

I am running odin on Windows 8.1.
When I run Flash, I get a PASS! is displayed, but is not written to the smartphone.
Is there any way to fix this problem?
Have never heard of this.
BTW: Odin requires the latest Samsung USB Driver got installed on PC.
Check if bootloader is unlocked or what and also try flashing different samsung firmware versions.
