[Q] rooting bell galaxy s ll? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how can i root my galaxy s ll from bell mobility, i looked at cf-root and if im correct you have to download the matching kernal in that post that matches your device. thanks for your help
my kernal
2.6.35.7-I9100MUGKG2-CL371789
[email protected] #2

flash this kernel through ODIN.
CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4

samsung kies is not working on windows 8 and keeps crashing, will this be an issue? because i thought i have to run my phone in kies once before i use odin so it installs all the needed drivers correctly .

definitely need your phone to be detected first, so yeah... KIES must be installed on the machine you're doing this on.
I had to use an old PC laptop before KIES beta came out for my mac.
*ahhh the sacrifices we have to do to flash ROMs...*

Try to update and it wont work have got windows 7 32bit and every time it starts the update kies stops responding and dont know if it windows 7 are kies anyone got any ideas how to fix it?? are getting the same problems have re uninstilled it so many times and put it back on dont know what to do know plz help
Forget trying to use Kies to update, from what i gather it can cause more problems that what it solves.
I'd suggest reaing this to upgrade to KE7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
The guide is easy to follow and download links for the files are good.
Only thing id add is make sure you are using a good usb port to connect with not a hub in a hub in a hub job
or press right mouse button on kies account
and choose run as administrator
and allow kies in the firewall
Tryed that still misses up like
AV off Firewall off run as Admin .
jje
Tryed and turned off avg and still dint work
have the same issue as u mate
solution for me was to install kies on another xp machine/virtual xp
and update thru there.
that is of course you have another xp machine

Why would you have an update is the first question .
Second is has your phone provider updated the firmware .

I was made aware that there has been two firmware updates released in the last two weeks from Samsung address certain issues reading battery life and such and these updates can only be applied via connecting to Kies.
As this is not an offical update to Android I did not think that such updates where pushed out by the carriers?
My S2 was bought sim fee but I am using it on the O2 network.
Thanks
I live in the UK and have a factory unlocked SGS2. I plugged my handset in this morning and was immediately offered the KE7 update. I have installed it, but haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet. I have run Quadrant several times and it consistently scores 3,500+.
im using windows 7 64 bit and have used kies before its extreemly buggy ... can updates be done over the air like they can on htc (fota) ??
im hoping the new version of kies i installed this morning works with 64 bit as my new s2 arrives tomorrow ....
thanks
chris
how much time does it take for the upgrade process to complete?
my phone is connected to the pc and kies is showing Preparing firmware upgrade components, since the past 1 hour!!!! does that take so long?

Hi
I'm new to android.
I'm currently using an unlocked SGSII. The details are below
Android Version
2.3.3
Baseband Version
I9100JCKE1
Kernel Version
2.6.35.7-I910XWKE7-CL215725
[email protected] #2
Build Number
GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
From what I understand KE7 is the latest firmware. Im currently on version 2.3.3 and would like to update to 2.3.5 or higher.
I'm using Kies on a 64 bit Windows 7 and everytime I've connected my phone to Kies for the 2 months I've had it, there are no updates available.
Is there any way Kies will detect an update if I switch to an XP or even a Linux machine
Thanks

really need the pro for help..=(

Hi I newbie in Galaxy s2
My kernel version is [email protected]#2
Which software should I use to rooted my galaxy plz..
I already used odin3 v1.85 and I already follow the guide to root my galaxy s2
but the problem is odin cannot connect with my galaxy... i don't know what to do right now...
plzz help me....
Odin does not show your device as ready? Have you installed Kies and connected your phone via Kies? You have to install the SGS2 drivers, that Odin can connect. Kies can do this for you. So first install Samsung Kies, connect your phone (in order to get the right drivers).
Then close every Kies programm running (via Task Manager) becaus Kies badly interfers with Odin. Now you can put your phone in download mode and Odin shout connect.
owh...
it's means i need to install kies installer first then I can connect my phone to PC?
It's it kies have version? If have the version, which version should I used?

dont forget to kill kies from running in background BEFORE any odin attempt. Kies block odin, and can harm your phone If It does

Root has nothing to do with free software that comes via the Android market.
Apps that are Warez/Theftware are banned on XDA .
If you cannot connect your phone to your PC use another one nothing else can help.

That's most likely because you're not on a stock ROM/Kernel. User preference usually goes like this:
Stock - Kies
Custom - Third-party tools

[Q] Blue Screen Error (USB problem) when using Odin @ boot.ini

Hello everyone from XDA!
I've been reading several different posts on the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100, and though many have been helpful (thank you!), I just can't seem to find the solution I'm looking for.
Not long ago I upgraded the stock firmware from Bell Canada (forget the specs) to:
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: I9100XXKI4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWJK3-CL647431 [email protected] #2
Build number:: GINGERBREAD.XWKJ3
My phone was also rooted.
Recently, however, I've been trying to upgrade to ICS but without success---and I've tried a number of ways, from the XDA forum to various websites around. I suspect the problem may be with my computer (USB related) and not the phone. I'm not sure, I'm not an expert, which is why I come to you for help, please.
The first and only attempt of ever upgrading the firmware (see above) was a success; as per directions, I used Odin: the PIT, PDA, PHONE, and perhaps CSC as well. It has been some time since the ugrade, and in the mix of trying new and different firmware (without success) I have forgotten exactly what happened.
So my problem, now, is that any time I try to upgrade to ICS (or another firmware for that matter) my computer ends up crashing when the flashing of the phone reaches the "boot.ini" stage. My computer (Windows XP Professional) crashes and a blue screen appears with an error---something to do with USB.
I just can't seem up update my phone.
The phone still works perfectly fine, but I really want ICS. I have tried with and without Kies installed. In fact, Kies even allows me to upgrade to a newer version (though it's not ICS) than I currently have. Unfortunately, though, when I try upgrading via Kies, I am also unsuccessful.
Could this just be my computer's USB? The drivers? If you have had similar experience and know the answer please help!

This screams to me it's the computer.
Have you tried on a different one?

I agree it sounds like a problem with your PC. You can bypass that problem by using Mobile Odin.
As ctomgee says, a blue screen error indicates a problem with your computer, not phone.
The way you are trying to get ICS also seems strange, the current way to get it would be:
Root phone and install CWM using Chainfire kernel.
Download and put the ICS rom on your sd card.
Boot into CWM, wipe everything and install the rom.
Reboot and you have ICS.
What file were you trying to use to upgrade to ICS?
Thanks
@ ctomgee: I've considered using a friends computer but I'm worried about damaging their computer by having an error appear.
@ oinkylicious: Thanks, I never knew about mobile Odin. I'll check it out.
@Kaze105: I appreciate the steps, thank you. The new firmware is GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XXLPB_I9100XXLPB_I9100XEUKH2.tar.md5 and Kernel_I9100XXLPB.tar.md5, respectively.
If any of you have links or suggestions as to favorite roms, kernels, or the like, well I'm open to suggestions!

Can't hit the target if you don't take the shot...
I'm having a similar problem.
I decided to root my galaxy s2 with the CF-kernel (so this is my initial flash, and mobile odin is no alternative).
But every time I start (in Odin), my computer crashes.
I tried it on a "native" Windows XP x86 system and in a virtual machine with Windows XP x86(because I am using Linux only).
On my second machine with Windows 7 64bit, I cannot install the device drivers correctly (the CDC component fails to install), so Odin (and Kies as well) does not recognize the Device.
Is there any suggestion or alternative to Odin especially for Linux systems?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: enabling USB 2.0 for the virtual machine and reinstalling the USB-drivers did the trick (the native windows system has no USB 2.0). Now it hangs on connectionsetup, but that's another problem.

Updating S2 using Kies under Windows 8 Release Preview

I have installed Windows 8 Release Preview (64 bit) on my PC. I installed Kies (v2.3.2.1) so that I could upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S2 from Gingerbread to ICS. Kies installs OK and runs OK and detects my phone OK. I am told that there is a firmware update for my phone and when I proceed to downloads the firmware then... nothing. It just hangs. Kies dies (but does not close although it freezes). I have tried separately downloading the latest Samsung drivers (v1.5.4.0) and installed these too -- but the same things happens.
Is this a common problem? Or is it my PC? Is there a workaround? Cheers.
