I have just recently rooted my phone and now I can't receive or send text messages. I was wondering if there was an app that I may have removed on accident. I still can receive phone calls tho. Thank you for any information.
What else did you do besides rooting? As far as I know just rooting will not break MMS or SMS.
What method did you use to root? If anything I would say your radio is wrong but we would need to know more information.
I tried to put Froyo on the phone but failed at it twice, so I decide to restore to factory settings and just root with FascinateRoot_v02. Installed Titanium Backup, SetCPU, Root Explorer. Went through Titanium Backup and removed the Verizon Apps like Music, Video, Nav, etc. and some other bloat ware.
When you say "went back to factory" how did you go about doing that?
I used this to go to Froyo the first time, there is one that is just the leaked version a clean version and all of the SuperClean roms.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-25-a.html
It's possible you deleted something when deleting the bloatware that you needed. I would suggest going back to stock using the stock odin files. Which is here I think, I have the files saved to my computer now.
http://www.dkszone.net/samsung-fascinate-dl09-odin-download
Since you are using TB I would freeze apps before you remove them completely so you can be sure they wont mess up your need to have apps
make sure there is no +1 in the number you are texting... as in +1-999-999-999
@Roblovesbox
Thank you, texting is working again.
Also I was wondering what would be an easy ROM to install that is Froyo?
The first link has Odin files of the superclean Rom. Or if you are familiar with clockwork you get the zip file from the superclean thread in the development section of the fascinate forums.

Would removing 3G Mobile Hot spot, All Share, Car Cradle, and News & Weather effect my texting ability?
No.
There is a post somewhere either here or on android forums that has a list of the apps you can safely remove from your phone. Ill see if I can find it.

Have a rooted Thunderbolt. Am trying to install an app approved by my employer to access email, calendar, and contacts from my phone instead of using my employer issued blackberry. I'm all approved but ran into a snag.
It locked the application because my phone is rooted.
None of the pre-requisites mention it not being allowed on a rooted phone, but that's beside the point. Is there a way to make the app think it's not rooted? I'd rather carry my Blackberry around as a seoncd phone, as awful as it is, than unroot my phone and go back to a stock rom.
Didn't see anything when searching...please help!
Thunderbolt running DasBAMF Forever 1.0.7, imoseyons 3.8 lean kernal
What email client are you trying to set up? I have read a few threads about people having issues with corporate email accounts on rooted phones. I do not think I've ever read a solution that worked either. Do some searches for Corporate Email with root on the normal forums we all browse and I'm sure you will see the number of people asking to accomplish this is significant.
It's a client called "Good". It basically encapsulates all company information (email, contacts, calendars) encrypted within the application. Also allows the IT department to wipe the data remotely without wiping your phone. Company I work for is a huge company "300k plus) and has always been BlackBerry only. They're just now rolling this out to android and iphone...but the "Rooted?" criteria is messing me up.
I'll keep searching, but have had little luck so far.
Just unroot if it is a work phone, why take chances.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
The first time you launched it, did it request superuser permissions ? If so, and you said "allow", it knows you're phone is rooted by the exit code it got back from the 'su' app. If that happens, try this:
- in your app drawer, find the program "Superuser" and launch it.
- scroll through list to find "Good", then tap it
- depending on your version of SU you might have different options to choose here
- tap the 'trashcan' icon
- exit Superuser app and try your "Good" app again
If that doesn't work, try this:
- uninstall app
- reinstall app
- launch app
- DENY access to superuser rights when prompted
If it's determining it has root access another way, I can't help...

It's not a work phone...it's my personal phone. The whole idea is you turn in your BlackBerry and then they give you a $25/mo allowance toward your personal cell bill, then you can still access all the stuff you need from work.
FWIW, I searched the forum (all devices) for "Good for Enterprise" and hit the jackpot. Guess it's all about phrasing it right. Here's an example of one of the helpful links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032268
So, once i have a custom ROM, is there a way to re-root but keep the ROM? Would I lose access to CWM (for nandroid backups)? I assume I'd lose titanium backup and wireless tether...tough choices. I haven't lived without root in so long that I don't know if I can do it...
Hehe, interesting...
Good for Enterprise on rooted phones
Have fun reading !! I haven't checked any of those results yet myself.
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:13 PM ----------
Based on the first link I checked from ^^ above ^^, it doesn't base it on how you respond to Superuser, it simply looks for the existence of su.apk, superuser.apk, etc. If it finds them, it stops. And no, renaming those files, then running it won't work either as it checks every time it's run !!
One alternative is:
Create a script file that a) renames the relevant superuser files, b) launches "Good", and finally, when "Good" exits, c) renames the superuser files back to their original names.

Recent update to this app, according to "What's New" page in the Market (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.good.android.gfe&hl=en): Security Enhancements: Better detection of rooted devices to protect your information You may be fighting a losing battle on this one. Even if you figure a way around it, rest assured that the developers of the app browse Android forums seeing how people are NOW getting around their detection routines and will defeat those next.
Of course, it's POSSIBLE that turning this detection on is an admin-level setting that you could ask the IT folks to turn off. It sounds like it's phone-level though, unless on launch, it first queries it's back-end server and then does the relevant checks on the phone side.
It checks every time it's launched, and can be checked at any time. Sucks.
To be honest, I don't blame them for blocking rooted phones...as sensitive as the information is that will be in the app, I'd probably do it too. I just don't want to give up my custom ROM, wireless tether and titanium backup
Would deleting su and superuser.apk have any negative effects (other than disallowing rooted apps)? From what i can tell, those are what Good uses to check for root. Removing them would effectively remove root, so I would be in compliance. And in theory, i could just restore from a rooted nandroid backup to get root back, right?

This was the closest yet...fantastic app. It does successfully remove su and temporarily removes root. However, it looks like GFE also checks for existence of hte superuser.apk. I've messaged the dev to see if there's a way to hide that, but considering that's what's used to root and unroot at will, not sure how that'd work. Hopefully the dev is smarter than me and can figure something out! But very close.
is that the only app that will work for checking your email? could you just add a new exchange activesync account and configure it properly?
just a thought...

I wish. This is the only way they allow due to the extra encryption and ability to remotely wipe data.
Two Words: Dual Boot.
Get your regular "At home" rooted rom all nice and prettied up, then when you get in the car for work, boot into a stock rom that isn't rooted for work specifically.

hi. you can use apps such as Hide my root. they are available in Google Play.
Good Luck
Edit:
I modified this post because this has become more involved than simply the fb app. It has evolved more towards the build.prop file being modified.
Original post:
i tried to download the facebook app from the market, and it's not showing. so i did a titanium backup of it from my phone and installed it on the nt, initially i was able to open it and sign in. i went to a few posts, looked at a few friends, etc. after turning it off, it would force close each time i tried to reopen it. i dont know whats happening to make it force close. i presume since it's not showing in the market, it's communicating with facebook or the market and one or the other is telling it no.
is there anyway to tell the market this is another device so it will show other apps that are not available right now?

Get your Facebook apk from this compressed file found in this post. Once you unpack/unzip it navigate to the extracted apps folder to find the facebook, Twitter etc. apk's
I'm going with dodgepot's method. I've noticed other apps were not available since posting this. This method should clear it up. It will be late tonight before I'll get a chance but I'll let you guys know the results.

Oppinions vary on the fb app. I like it personally. I did get it to work however. I installed the updated app just fine from a backup of my evo shift. However... I tried the build.prop mod. Nogo. I tried the nexus s and the .... crap.. drawn a blank here... the second mod listed in the linked page. Neither worked. Anyone with experience modding the build.prop file, I have a few questions. In the original file there are more of the ro. fields listed than what are shown on each of the mods. Do these other original lines have to remain in place or should they be deleted? Some of them look to me as if they would conflict with the new lines. Also, what's the endresult of a screwed up build.prop file? Does something other than market rely on this file? If its geeked up, will I brick or have to re-root? Also, I presume this file is something that comes with the 1.4.0 rom. Is this something that could/should be replaced when the root process is taking place to prepare the device for the market? I guess when cm roms, etc. come out they will have there own build.prop that will define the device as something else to the market so more apps are available since google doesn't recognize the nt as a "market" device?

Do not remove7touch the other .ro's of build.prop just change the lines provided. The end result with a screwed up build.prop basically will be that your device won't be recognized by market and certain apps if not all, for ex. airdroid when i login in my browser to access my nook it recognize it as Droid3 because i changed my build.prop to Droid3. You won't brick or have to re-root your device if you mess up with it, by using adb push of the original build.prop is enough. Build.prop can be changed to a modified one before root i did it and worked like a charm.

Problem:
I cannot add/delete/edit/open any of my contacts using the stock contacts manager. I get the force close on the (proccess com.motorola.contacts).
Phone setup:
Unlocked and rooted
Superuser, Busybox, CPU tuner, CWM v5.0.0.6, RomRacer as well (all free versions)
System 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US (2.3.4)
radio N_01.77.37P
kernel Faux .024
OK... Before the flames are turned on... Yes I have tried lots of the "solutions" to this and NO, they did not work.
Backtrack.
I froze the updater to stop the 15 minute reminder about the OTA. I believe that was when this started, I am not entirely sure since I do not often add/edit contacts.
I unfroze the updater, restart, no change
I had tried to use the Yahoo mail client, saw something about it... reloaded it and unloaded it. restart no change
I've since loaded the Go contacts/dialer... No edit function there either, at least it does not crash.
So, What I think I need to do, and have not found anywhere, is to replace the Contacts files from a blank/stock system and then repopulate the data from an import.
Has this been done? Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, I am fine doing it manually via whatever needs to be done... and I can follow instructions.

Yahoo is a system app with the official build, so downloading Yahoo and installing it wont work. Try pulling it from a 2.3.4 build and pushing the apk to your phone. This is why using TiBu to backup and freeze apps is good.

There are a number of apps which cause contacts to FC when you try to add or edit e contact. They are all tied in to contacts. You may not see an issue until you try to add or edit a contact. If you have FC with add or edit contact, best to unfreeze everything, then go through freezing apps one at a time until you start to get FC again, then you know what apps give the problem. I know Yahoo and/or Yahoo authenticator can be one which causes the FC problem if frozen or uninstalled.
Frozen
As said before.... The only thing I ever froze was the Updater.
Installed (crashed system) and removed Skype
Installed and removed Yahoo mail
Nothing else...
I am looking for a way to remove/replace the contact files and database, install a system new/empty structure and repopulate it, if at all possible.
If, from what attention I've gotten is true, apparently, there is no way to do this short of a full system wipe and restart...
Am I correct?
You could import from a VCard format. The following may help if I understand what you are looking for correctly:
http://code.google.com/p/vcardio/
If your contacts come from your Google account, you would have to disable syncing of contacts there, (or from wherever else they are coming from), and then delete them manually. Then you could import the new contact database.
I'll give it a go...
CaelanT.... Thanks, I'll look at what you gave me and see if it will work.
Just tried GB_AtrixMix_v1_by_otogy2002 - 2.3.6 STOCK ROM this weekend and I was able to fully edit the contacts. So my nagging assumption was correct, it is the contacts application in the stock 4.5.91... en.us rom that is the culprit, not actually my contacts themselves.
So, again, short of dropping another ROM on it and having to reload my applications (not really trusting of backup and restore of apps into a different ROM)...
Does anyone know how to fix my issue?
Do you have any apps that you have frozen?

There lies the problem. I did the same and nothing would work to fix. Had to rsd lite the stock sbf to get it working again. I was stocked rooted only, no unlocked bootloader at the time, running the stock rom/radio/kernel that came installed on the phone.
I was hoping there is someone somewhere who will read this and know how to replace the contacts application in the .91 ATT US stock ROM... I may have to ask, dare I say it.... Motorola support, and not mention the rooted and unlocked part...

Basically the Blur Contacts app calls on a ton of other dependant apks such as yahoo, activesync, work contacts and so forth. And not having one of these apks will lead to FCs when trying to edit a contact. So like previous users said, do not freeze or uninstall any of these or else you'll mess it up. If it has contact in the name or is associated with a service that syncs contacts let it be.
OK...
I guess I'll just bang around some ROM's until I find one I like and wait out ICS from Motorola for us.
Thanks All...

Hi, first post on XDA, and never used android before! Liking it so far, but have a couple of questions and would have a couple of questions.
I am using an HTC One (from Rogers wireless in canada, apologies if i posted in the wrong section, couldn't find a section for this phone). I came from using an iPhone, so naturally somethings are very different. I am not rooted, and currently using Nova Launcher free. Would like to stay un-rooted.
My first question is regarding the email notifications for the stock email app (not gmail). When I receive an email, in the notification drop down, there isnt a preview for the email, it only lists my email account, and "new email" underneath it. Any possible way to have it show a short mail preview, similar to iOS using the above launcher and stock firmware (4.1.2)?
The other question I had was if there is any possible way to set up a geo-fence which would enable a preset passcode to be used when i leave my house, and then disable passcodes when i arrive back home?
any help would be great, or if there is a similar thread already.
Thanks!!

I use the default mail app and I get a small preview as you call it (see attachment), But I'm on 4.2.2 not sure if that was introduced with the update or not.
As for the Geo- fence you can accomplish this with NFC Tags or an app called Tasker would allow you to setup your phone to do this.
I also came from an iPhone 4S I'll never go back
