Hello everyone,
I am sorry if this has been asked before, but what is necessary to back up when making a nandroid backup? What is optional and what is the benefit of backing that up?
I am using the team win recovery. It works great, but the backups are huge.
I really appreciate the help,
Blue
The ones that are [x]'ed by default should be fine and they are huge to make them half there size [x] compression at the bottom it works flawlessly i love it!
Is the android-secure sd-ext necessary?
Thanks

So the compression works well? I didn't do it cause I was worried it wouldn't flash back if I needed it to.
Yep works flawlessly

TWRP adds its own folder to the root of your SD card...Inside that is your backup.

I rooted my Photon, installed Titanium Backup and backed the phone up to my sd card. Today, i exchanged my Photon for another Photon.
Do I need to root the new phone in order to backup using Titanium?
I guess what I'm getting at is that if the phone needs to be rooted again, it would seem there's no on the fly solution to immediately backing up the phone. I'd have to re-root the phone which means having my laptop handy.
Any help would be much appreciated.
How do you guys do it?
Thanks again.

Yes you need to root again. I havw tried titanium unrooted and it says it wont work. The only one i ever got to work without having root was mybackup pro but you have to buy the app when restoring to new device when using mybackup pro. Not much info but hope it helps.

You don't need the laptop to root.

I have a broken-screen Photon and want to use TB to restore to my new Photon.
New Photon is rooted, but TB will not see all my elements. It don't think it's seeing any of my downloaded apps & data.
Any advice on what I need to do? I just want my new Photon to be like my old Photon.

I've tried everything that I can possibly think of, with no luck.
I did a fresh app only save and that didn't work. New phone would not see the apps to restore.
I can't figure out how to get my app saves off my old phone to be recognized by TB on the new phone. Do I need to download all the apps from the market? Do I need to factory reset the new phone and start over?
This is really starting to drive me crazy. It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult.

I now have a suspicion that y new phone is not reading my SD card correctly. It's not seeing all my pictures or videos. I've unmounted and remounted the card but no change.
Continually confused.
Try moving your titanium folder to internal storage and see what happens

This was the key (I hope, at least). I realized I was using the internal storage SD mount for my saves. I changed the directory to sd-ext and created a new folder there to perform the app & data save.
It's working through a restore right now, but I may be close.

Chalk this up to inexperience. I was backing up to the internal SD, not the external. Once I restated to external, it worked pretty well. Now just some tweaking to be done.

Why do so many people hate Rom manager? I love it and am just used to it since my cappy. I knkw it doesnt do everything with our SGS2 as it does for my cappy like reboot to recovery for nandroid backups correctly (except for using it for that purpose for cm7 works perfectly). But i like to use it for renaming nandroids and such. Easy to use and has never failed me. Wish it could be updated to fully work correctly at some point. Would be nice to get all our roms available on it/through it. Well to each his/her own i guess. I still use it to download gapps and such as well for cm7.

Lol.. seems like a lot of ppl really hate ROM Manager.
I either use ES File Explorer, or just connect to the pc and do my cleanup as necessary. I also rename the folders, so it's easier to identify which is what. Just remember if you do decide to rename your folders, no spaces , else you'll get md5 issues and wouldn't be able to restore from the backup you made.
A more interesting question is why a thread like this even needs to exist. I wondered the same thing the op did. Then I used root explorer to search and found the folder on my own. Search being the key word.

+1 on using pc moved a bunch of unnamed rom and ics'ed out version1 through 8 backups to a folder on my laptop. Never done anything with them but they're there .
I am no way affiliated with this application or its creator. Just sharing an awesome app that is useful to the flashaholics.
I am also not responsible for anything stupid you do to your own device.
GooglePlayStore/App2Zip
This app is great! Creates a flashable .zip file of all apps you want to backup and flash it in recovery after you flash a new Rom.
If you're getting errors after a restore you may need to boot back into recovery wipe dalvik-cache and fix permissions.
I know there are other apps that creates backups of apps but I think this method is a lot faster.
Have Fun!
This is great! I am going to be flashing this week, and this is the longest process.
Thanks for sharing.

Even if I don't, some Rom scripts are written to erase data, I can modify that so that it won't, but with my past experience of not wiping data across roms caused one of two things:
1. Really buggy, laggy horrible system or.
2. Down right bootloop.

See, the way I always install roms.. I unzip the rom, copy all the apk's from my /data/app folder, paste that into the unzipped rom, make sure it has a line in the updater script to copy the data/app folder over, or add it.. make any other tweaks I want, rezip and flash. Restoring the data for apps with titanium backup is really fast, so this usually cuts down the whole process by a lot.
Of course before I flash any rom I always unzip it and see what they have done, figure it out.. I have a program do a file comparison to stock so I can see all the files they modified.. so.. yea..
Of course your app may cut down on the process even more, good find
I'm too lazy to do all of that, lol. Plus I've never been a fan of tb, no idea why but I just don't like it.

That's usually cause the system already has the app installed, which option did you use that happened?

I used MyBackupRoot before this app. It restored a lot faster than TB. I still have MBuR just incase something gets botched.
GoBackup is not a bad alternative either. I've had some issues where SMS's don't restore properly with TB... So i've been using gobackup as a secondary.
GoBackup is currently free on the market.
Hey guys before you say anything... I know this was answered about a thousand times but wherever I search I cant get a good enough topic to be fully certain so I'd be thankful if someone who knows this would answer...
So my question is: If I make my Nandroid backup and move it to my pc, can I delete every last thing from my phone inc. my music, photos, videos, contacts etc.(basicaly do a hardcore wipe) and then move the backup back on the phone and restore it using cwm recovery so that everything is back and fully working, you know all music, photos, settings and stuff would be back???
Hope someone will answer me and thanks in advance

hi guys
theres a few things that i need to know if somebody could be so kind to assist or point in the right direction.
i have my s3 international for the past month now. i had put cyanogenmod 10.1 and it had its issues yet my titanium back up and my sd card was working fine. now i got my s3 back yesterday with stock rom and i flashed it and put cwm then restored a backup of the old nightlies then i did an update with the new nightloies, problem is that now none of my images are there and titanium backup is giving me the elements failed when i try to restore missing apps. how do i go about restoring my images from a nandroid backup? or where is it? i like this rom but now i noticed that the battery drain lasst night was like 15%. as you can see im still a noob at this so i cant check logs etc cos i dont know where to look. i have attached screenshots that might help.
Images are either stored on your internal or external SD card, in the DCIM folder. If they aren't on your external SD then you have lost them, nandroid doesn't back up the internal SD unless you tell it to and service would have wiped the internal SD.
Ask in your ROM thread for specific help, but I'd suggest flashing a fresh version of the ROM without performing any restore - see how it runs for a few days before you add any apps.
If you aren't confident then best stick with stock, or an modded version of stock, for a while first.
so what section do questions go?

thank you, very good advice. i will miss those apps for those few days tho. i think that if titanium back up will work i will get all my images etc back.

Mate, if your images aren't on your internal or external sd card - they ain't there. No amount of titanium backup fiddling will restore your images.
Regarding your apps, play store will have a record of anything you have downloaded. Menu, my apps, slide left. Profit.

Mate, using a file browser, look in your DCIM folder on BOTH the internal and external SD cards.
If you can't find it, download a software called Recuva. It works like a charm. Sure, they'll be some corrupt images, but, most of them are there.
