Last night I had my tablet propped up while I was watching a video. Then within a blink of an eye it fell and smacked down flat against the table. When this happened the screen when black immediately. I have not seen any activity from the screen since the fall. The power butto does not turn the tablet on. I connected it to my pc and device does not appear. When plugged in it does charge.
I'm completely panicked. I just purchased it in March off of Woot. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm all ears at this point.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that.
Any outword physical damage? If not, sounds like a good time to exercise the warranty process! I wouldn't tell them you dropped it...you just tried to turn it on & nothing!!!
Without actually opening the device & checking to see if something didn't pop loose, that is probably your best recourse.
If you do get it working, in the future you probably want to invest in a stand. My wife collect plates...I use one of her plate stands...it puts the gTablet at the perfect viewing angle, it keep the tab from falling/slipping, it's cheap, & it works.
Al
No physical damage.
I am thinking of opening it up, but wanted to evaluate all options first.
Anyone have any luck with Viewsonic and their warranty?
Its fixed! Just got hole and decided to open it up which was fairly easy to do with a small screwdriver and a credit card. Unplugged the big white screen coupler and plugged it back in and VOILA! She is back in business. Whew that was scary

So I've had my prime for around 3 months.
Yesterday it decided to stop working.
If you hold the power button for 15 seconds it vibrates.
At no point does the screen turn on.
try hooking an HDMI cable up to it and the t.v. to see if it displays anything. another thing is to try to drain the battery all the way down then recharge it. or try a soft reset. stick a paperclip in the little hole underneath the microsd card slot. press into you feel a slight click. then it should reset. hopefully that'll help. if none of the latter steps work but you can still see an image on the screen, then chances are the connector to your display got knocked loose. another thing to try is to hook it up to your PC to see if its recognized.
It shows up via hdmi.

The prime I just RMAed did the same thing. The prime froze while playing music and was drained of the battery. When it was charged back to full status... it only vibrates screen stayed black as night no matter what kind of soft, hard reset I did. I bet its the lcd since I can still see it on the laptop when its connected. Make sure when you call support for an RMA they send you a shipping label so you dont have to pay anything. Probably screen connection lose or just bad lcd display.

Could be your ribbon cable that connects from mobo to lcd. OR It could be bad
Lcd like junrider said. Only one option if its a bad lcd or etc.
-RMA your prime. Asus will fix it.
Other option if its just the cable came loose in prime.
-Open up your prime. Connect the cable back yourself.
Note: Opening your prime will void your warranty. Especially if Asus can tell you opened
it. Plus you risk the chance of breaking something. The prime is actually very easy to open.
You can see the thread in my sig for more info.
GL
Tip: If you do RMA it, take video proof of it working and packaging it etc. Basically, the more proof that when you sent the Prime it was completely fine, the better. There has been many incidences of people sending in Primes and having them damaged and having to pay for the damages.
RMA it not worth losing warranty for something your not sure of. And let them know you have fully documented (video and still shots ) your prime's condition before and during its packaging stage.
Like 6 -7 months ago,
Okay, so my mom dropped her Photon in a bucket of soapy water while she was trying to wash her car. She immediately took out the battery and tried to get most of the water out. She also put it under a fan to dry out for about 3-4 hours... then she plugged it in to charge! 0_0 (I wasn't there to tell her not to plug it in yet...) Few minutes after, I came home from school and she told me. I immediately rushed upstairs and unhooked it from the charger, and took out the battery. We put it in rice and left in there for some days. Finally I had the courage to plug it in. When I did, NOTHING. My mom mentioned something about it saying RSD protocol or something. At that point, I lost all hope and stashed it in the dead phone pile.
9/15/2012
I plugged the phone in, the green LED lit. I feel a vibrate, the 4 capacative buttons light. I hit the volume toggles; I hear the Android ding! Vibrate and LED also works! But guess what? The screen is just black... When you plug the Photon into the computer, you hear the notification sound on the Photon, and Windows detects it as:
USB Mass Storage Device
Motorola MB855 USB Device
Motorola MB855 USB Device
Even when booting up, you don't see the red Moto logo, it's like the LCD is dead. I even think the touchscreen functionality is dead too. I really believe now that I can bring this baby back to life somehow. Guys, what can I possibly do?
Maybe try replacing the LCD and digitizer. There should be parts for it on amazon. Its a pain to replace it though. Lastly, make sure that that the motherboard doesn't have signs of corrosion. Otherwise, you'll start to notice the phones performance degrade over time and eventually give out

That's so funny.. I can't imagine a mother talking about RSD.
I'm sure you can find spare parts on Amazon or eBay, but you can always send it to Motorola and pay for fixing it.
If you decide to fix it by yourself, be careful. After I opened my Photon I couldn't use the power button, and I wasted hours on trying to fix it.
I had a similar issue a week ago, my phone was knocked off a table into my pool. I jumped in after it, clothes and all, and picked it up off the bottom.
I immediately threw it out of the pool, yeah, threw, jumped out and did a battery pull. I let is sit in rice for a few days, opened it up, and scrubbed the contacts on the mobo with a firm toothbrush and 90% isopropyl. It's been a week to the day, and everything is running fine except the proximity sensor. So the only issues I'm having now is when I am in a call, the LCD shuts off, and obviously the screen goes non-responsive.
The proximity sensor is constantly reading that something is close.
Not to derail the thread, but any suggestions on that?
To un-derail the thread, there are only 8 torx head screws holding the phone together, took me only about 20 mins or so to open my mopho to the mobo. if you thing it's worth it, take a look and see what you can see on yours.
use hair dryer
whenever my phones got in contact with water, I used a hair dryer to dry the phones. it worked all the time.

Ah, but here's the thing, It has been dry for a week now.
I consider the phone saved, and everything is working just as it did before it went swimming, save for the proximity sensor.
water damage repair
Ok i repair cell phones all day and for water damage you need to remove the motherboard and soak it in alcohol for 20 minutes then take a tooth brush and scrub the whole board to remove all the corrosion and do the same to the lcd and digitizer connections its a 50/50 shot
No help on a workaround for my busted proximity sensor? I can't use the keypad when making calls.
So after my daily workout (watching "Breaking Bad" on the tablet) I managed to let my trusty 201 slip from my hands while taking it off the thin little ledge on my exercise bike console.
BAM, landed right on its corner on the bike's steel support bar.
Now it appears to be functional - except for the small point that the screen don't come on anymore.
Since I cleverly just put a "pattern" lock on it before maiming the poor thing, I can't get it unlocked reliably, but when I press the screenshot button on the keyboard it makes the shutter-click sound.
And I am getting notification bleeps when new mail comes in.
But I'm blind.
I have taken some steps in the past to open it, I did the Wifi antenna thing and tried to get the GPS working (bahahaha what a waste of time THAT was!)... and I've repaired a number of other phones and crap... so I'm not unskilled in this arena.
And I'm sort of optimistically hoping it's just a loose cable or something. There's only the smallest dent in the casing in the corner. No cracks in the screen or anything.
But has anyone gone down this road and maybe has some pointers as to what to look out for? Is there a backlight module that might have popped and just needs replacing?
I'm very sad, this little guy has been my stalwart companion for many, many moons...
Thanks for any input.

I have read some similar stories in the past and some times it has just been a cable that has dislodged inside.. Obviously this can vary but I would first try plugging in a hdmi cable to your TV and making sure that the graphics chip is still working.
I'd imagine it would be and your next step would be to open it up and start unplugging and replugging everything you can.

Aha! The hdmi cable. Hadn't occurred to me.
I love this forum.
(Also been using androwook for quite some time, with Data2SD... big fan - very smooth. would hate to lose and/or have to reinstall from scratch though!)

Well - this was a fantastic suggestion, since the HDMI gave me a perfect picture and the thing is (as thought) fully functional.
It was interesting trying to judge where to tap on the tablet to hit certain things on the screen, though.
This is actually quite a load off, since worst case I can get a new screen from ebay.
Thanks again, flumpster - I am much relieved, and you are a god among men!

This is for the original transformer but they should be nearly the same.

Nice!
I have my fingers crossed.
So do my kids, who are going into "Minecraft PE" withdrawal at the moment.
Well, after popping the case, I've disconnected and reconnected everything available - no change in behavior.
I'll try unsticking the LCD and see what else is in there, but it's looking like a more aggressive repair will be in order.
V.sad
PS there's also this vid I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpJs_OI8joA
Arright. Here's my logic. Tell me where I'm wrong.
The video works - the HDMI proved that.
The tablet works - ditto.
Being able to touch and use the tablet shows me that the digitizer is ok, too.
I've reseated all the connectors, but I still can't get a picture.
Therefore, it's the LCD that's gone bad.
Therefore I should order a new LCD.
Right?

Hmmm.. Sounds logical but it could be the power going to the screen or something else that connects the screen. Or does the power etc control the digitizer also ?

Well, there's one (and only one) ribbon cable feeding the LCD - and two going to the digitizer.
News, though - I pulled out the battery and found another ribbon cable tucked underneath to reseat.
After that, I put it back in and hooked up the LCD - and it came up!!
Sort of, anyway. It lit up enough to show me the spiderweb of cracks all along the bottom edge.
(I think I found my problem.)
Now off to eBay to shop for a replacement... I hope I didn't munge up anything else in there while I was mucking around!

See if someone is selling a bricked Tf201 of TF300 that you can get the screen out of.
Well my awesome sauce with the note 2 seems to be doing downhill... I LOVE my phone... then all of a sudden yesterday I had it sitting on the arm rest of my recliner.... I accidentally knocked it off on to the hardwood floor and it must have hit just right as it cracked the screen. The phone still functioned fine, but the screen was cracked. I took it to a local cell phone repair shop to have the screen replaced. When they put it back together it wouldn't boot... well then after replacing a button, it booted and they thought that was it. Well after it booted I made a call, and as I set the phone down, I noticed it turned off. So after a couple of more boots and confirmations that tapping it at the top of the device did this, I got a charger. Well with the charger plugged in it does the same thing, which tells me it's not a battery connection as google searching would lead me to believe. Please tell me someone knows something to try and fix this? Should I just cut my losses and buy a used device? I see beans has his on swappa and it's making me consider coming up with the money to do that. Thanks for any input/advice!!!!
Michael
Damn! They're supposed to test it out after they replace the screen and give it back to you. These screen replacements are very sensitive and you have to really use caution when messing with them. I've never heard of this but do you have a case on it or around it at the moment? sorry man. Have you discovered anything else?
Well after he spent some time with my phone last night, he said he thinks he found a loose cable. I picked it up today and it hasn't shut off yet. The screen looks beautiful by the way. Back to playing around with Trents Rom!

Glad the store solved that out. I've had a similar thing if I tap my phone on a table around the camera area it just shuts off as well. Only solution I've found is using the massive case from the 9300mah zero Lemon battery. Adds a sought bit of bulk

This is why a ZAGG and good case are worth every penny
I accidentally bumped a cup of coffee over on the back of my HTC Evo 4g LTE. I bumped a pillow into the nightstand while trying to contort my body in a way that would let me set sleeping my 10mo old into bed without waking him
I turned off the phone immediately, took off my Otterbox Commuter case (not the really waterproof Defender) and found a thin liquid coating on the back housing. Perhaps 1-2hrs later I made the poor estimate that it wasn't "that bad" and tried turning it on. The phone went into what I think was a boot loop (the display never showed anything, so I can't be sure), vibrating every ~30sec as it would if it were constantly trying to turn on and failing. It doesn't have a battery designed for removal, so I just had to let it sit.
Perhaps 6hrs later I went to check on it, and thought it was unresponsive after pressing the power button and nothing appeared to happen. I inadvertently pushed the volume rocker, however, at which point it made a beep as though it were adjusting the volume! After that, I noticed that the power button was also toggling the capacitive navigation buttons, which would illuminate and shut off as if the phone was "running" as well... but I still had no display.
Since then I've done a complete teardown (pop off all cases, separate all ribbon cables, vibration motor, speakers, camera, and removed the battery). I've done a few washes/brief soaks in isopropyl with the motherboard and then put everything in a vacuum chamber overnight at -20 inches of mercury. I also set the display and motherboard it in DriRite (lab-grate dessicant) for about a week now. In the meantime, I assumed the display may have been fried and ordered a replacement since it was only $28 on ebay. I just got it yesterday, but get the same results (phone "turns on," but display never lights up).
Any input on troubleshooting further?
- I've thought about looking at the two ribbon connector receivers for the display under a microscope to see if I can see any residue.
- I've also considered opening my wife's phone (same model) and swapping the batteries based on a probably false idea that if the battery might have gotten zapped, it could power the rest of the phone but not the display? Thinking not, as the power-ups I've attempted have had the USB charger plugged in, but easy experiment.
Would it be possible to short out just something related to the display on the motherboard so that the phone could run seemingly perfectly fine but just with no display? Just seemed so darn unlikely and that if I toasted some circuitry that a lot more would have been toasted in the process.
I plan to reassemble tonight and test for call reception (I think I can guess where the answer button is) and notifications (email myself and see if I get a vibrate/beep). That would confirm that the radios are also still functional.
Sort of at a loss and am not sure what else to do! I'm an engineer and even if the phone is toast... I'd really love to definitively figure out what's causing the issue.
