So there is a thread in another forum that mentioned going into the roaming preferences and switching from any CDMA to any roaming then back again to fix 3G speeds. While this did work and helped a little I have noticed two things now.
One, when on 3G with 4G, BT, and WIFI off the battery drains at 1% every 5 min and phone starts heating up(CPU hits 107+degrees).
And two, when I am doing speedtests or large downloads I see two things. One is the spedtest will error our and stop completely with data lost popup. This is with full bars and not even fluctuating. And two the download bar will jump back and forth. So when I downloaded a game at 11megs from the market the download bar, moving VERY slow at times, will jump around in percentage, it'll show 35% then 15% then 40% then 17% and so on, it is very very odd.
So has anyone seen there battery dropping off with 3G like this? And has anyone seen a data connection loss popup with full bars? (none of this is roaming it is all Sprint)
Thanks
the only thing i've ever noticed is that it'll drop for a second (everything all gray) then come right back on (everything all blue) other then that i haven't seen any spikes in battery, although i wouldn't be able to tell with this 10% battery increment they have going on
I am using this for the battery. https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.blinkenlights.battery&feature=search_result
Seems to work well and no battery drain that I have noticed and I just put it on yesterday and my issues started tuesday so I know it's not this app.
The issue is my signal indicator never turns grey it is always blue.

Generally speaking I'm in good coverage but I'm having this weird issue. Some days after charging over night I unplug the phone and have great battery life that day. Looking at the battery status everything looks as you would expect, cell standby appearing pretty low in the list and showing maybe 1 or 2% 'time without signal'
Then other days, for no apparent reason, my battery life will be terrible and cell standby will be the highest battery drain on the list (40% or so) and showing 100% 'time without signal'. However, and this is the bit I don't understand... I do actually have good signal in both cases. I've tested by sending and receiving texts and calls.
I guess my question is, does anybody know why my phone might 'think' it has no signal even though it does, and why it consumes more battery when this happens?
Something I've noticed also is that 'settings>status>signal strength shows that i do have a signal in both cases (pretty much same values in both too). But, when doing '*#*#4636#*#*' it shows '-0dbm 0 asu' if my phones having the 100% thing.
Same issue here, I have 100% time without signal however I have full 3-4 bars of signal. Charged before nifht, unplugged and lost 25% of battery over night because of this, as if the phone had no coverage at all.
Usually setting it to offline mode and back to online helped, but today it does not help...
Same issue here. Even if the sim card's not in. Too many issues with this phone. Will end up on ebay!
Omg, don't panic dude. Just wait patiently on firmware update

I've got the same issue, well atleast mine says "time without signal 100%" eventho I do have signal most of the time..however my drain seems to small in comparison to yours..it usually takes like 10% - 15% of battery in a full charge, so quite normal.
wonder why it shows 100% time without signal tho....
i have the same problems on my phone. i got the '-0dbm 0 asu' reading working once and the time without connection went down from 100% to 99%. but i was so happy i can't remember what i did :S i tried all different kinds of firmwares. but i'm tryin to get it to work again. :S it had something to do with the cdma or gsm mode on my phone.
let's hope we get it fixed it really drains my battery
In the same boat as you lot. Cell standby battery use is very low but getting reports of "Time without a signal" 99%, even though I have full 4 bars most of the time and make and receive calls with no issue.
Running XWKE7 for what it's worth, are any of you guys on different firmware?
i knew something was odd, i spent today wondering why over 2 hrs my battery dropped from 80% to 50% and even when I try to reboot and recharge, the 'cell standby stats' say its been on since recharge and at 100%.
i'm on XXKG1 with litening rom v 2.2 flashed earlier.
:\
Hi,
I watched my battery info a moment ago and don't know if those stats are normal.
Cell standby: 42%
- Time on 19h 44m
- Time without a signal 100%
Display: 20%
Android System: 15%
Phone idle: 7%
Android OS: 6%
"Cell standby" seems to use much battery power and my phone signal strengh does not show more than 2 of 5 "bars" in the notification bar (inside buildings). Data network is not enabled.
Now I'm not sure if the antenna of my phone might be defect cause of this high battery usage. I am also sometimes not reachable if people try to call me.

But you miss the key component battery used in that time span .
1% battery used 90% used ???
Your post reads as phone not receiving a signal .Phone sleeping/not in use .
Of the battery used in that time 42% was cell standby NOT 42% of the battery 42 % of the amount used .
more than 2 of 5 "bars" in the notification bar (inside buildings)
No network will guarantee any reception inside buildings . Faraday cage and all that .
Test the phone outside the building first for signal strength .

Cell standby
If you know you wont have signal turn airplane mode on, to save it from searching for a signal all the time, and thus draining some battery.
@Jesmicael: Thanks! I'll watch this thread.
@JJEgan:
My phone uses about 12% battery within 9 hours. No display, no data network, no wlan, no gps, but about 1h of listening to music in this timespan.
I got signal inside buildings most time (with 0-2 bars) but it also happend to me that I was not reachable, even when I placed the phone next to an open window. Outside of the building I have maximum signal.
I did not have any problems with my older LG phone in the same situation.
Of course I know that this 42% are just compared to other battery users
@veyka:My phone is not placed in an isolated cage, and I want to be reachable in this time. Airplane mode is good for saving battery, but not when you want to use a "phone" ^^

Phone gives full signal so nothing wrong with the phones hardware or antenna .
Your alternative is to take the phone to a service centre .

Seeing as you're pretty much putting your phone in stasis for the 9 hours of usage. i think its pretty normal drain. it just looks like the only thing the phone is actually using is the antenna.
Just a wild idea, did you set the phone to GSM/WCDMA auto?

Yes, but does it matter, if I have no data connection enabled? If so, what should I use instead?
Maybe this battery "drain" of the cell standby is normal, when I do not use the phone in this time. On the other hand I am a bit confused, cause due Samsungs official data sheet, the phone should last up to 620h in standby with 3g enabled.
Of course the realistic value is less than 620h, but not 6 times less.
Ive come to realise that this might just be an erroneous stat. I honestly don't think it takes up 100% of my battery. Cell standby has actually deceased since I've flashed villainrom 2.1
any one else have a clue?
I had a theory that since my gsii its actually gt-i9100t not gt-i9100 it might make a little,difference.. whoo knows.. :/
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I've come to the conclution that the SG2 is not for use it all day, I have turned it on this morning connected all day to wifi/dataplan and after 14 hours the battery is dead. Will not be able to use it for an entire day.
Pd: wanted to share a pic but seems that the forums are not allowing the png format.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
mine lasts all day even with pretty heavy useage mate
you will get about 5 hours screen time on average from this device and battery .
I suggest checking to see if you have killed samsung bloatware that likes to run all the time , installed juice defender which helps a lot , adjusted your start up programs , installed latest firmware or a custom rom like leomar2.1 , if you cant get 3g signal switch to 2g only , switch wifi/gps/bluetooth off when not in use .
Doing all of the above will get you excellent battery life and you will easily last through the day .
The only way i can kill my battery in a day is with some severe gaming sessions and dlna sessions or internet browsing sessions
Battery and phone are fine its the setup thats important
Hope you get it sorted peeps and have a great day too
Look its really normal. You phone will use power in standby, so there is really nothing wrong. The numbers are relative.
so the Battery Life on the Mini pro is kinda annoying or not or maybe am over reacting
i was out today i had wifi blue tooth off on GSM no data no Sync no nothing i just accepted 1 call 2 message and uninstalled and re-installed stuff using Titanium back up App for like maybe 1-6mins ? and took 3 videos each one like 5-10 seconds the phone was out of the charger for 3hours and 10 min i lost 27% it's at 73% when i came back home
*and i have the Brightness on LOW so low that if i lowered it more the light will go off*
i went on to the
Battery use
Display = 49%
Cell Standby = 17%
Phone idle = 15%
Media Server= 5%
Voice Calls = 5%
Android System = 3%
Sony Ericsson Home 2%
Titanium Backup = 2%
keypad 2%
Gallery 2%
Android OS 2%
is that normal ?
My friend got Xperia Play and his Battery is like Mainly Draining from Cell Standby and Display is low on % and he got full Brightness on and he got so many apps running in the background while i dont
i uninstalled like Nearly all the apps that came with the phone that dont need
and the screen 90% of the day when am out is off :S
Xperia Play = 1500mAh
Mini PRo = 1200mAh
If you search for my posts I have pointed out this issue too and I have isolated several causes for this behaviour:
- Low signal: the phone has to constantly search for a network and since the Mini Pro's reception sucks this drains the battery alot. You can see how bad this phone reception is by holding it tight in your hand, the signal strenght will loose 1-3 bars or loose it completely.
- Data traffic: we all know that it is a battery draining function but turn it on in a low signal area and your battery will die faster.
- Background Data: I never paid too much attention to this until one day I decided to turn it off, the phone lasted the whole day with data traffic on.
I made other tests and leaving both data traffic and background data off the battery lasted almost 2 days. I've also noticed that turning data traffic off but leaving background data on drains your battery, probably because the services that need to use the network to sync try to connect even if data traffic is off.
With low signal, data traffic on and background data on my phone lasted only 2 hours and half.
- Display light: I turned it half the way and when I am in low light environment I use the display widget to reduce the backlight to 10-20%. I've noticed that this setting makes the phone last longer during intensive use sessions.
Hope this helps

thanks for the reply i never get a low signal
i put data traffic off i dont have internet on my sim card only wifi ;p
background data i put it off also :3 guess i kinda left on by mistake
which display light widget do u use i always have mine manual on low like if lowered 2 more times it will go off
Do you killed a bunch of apps? Doing so may actually decrease the battery because those processes and services are trying to restart. I don't get any lack of reception when I hold it tightly, with two hands or when I'm in the asement. Probably ly because there's a cell phone tower nearby.

I use the widget that came with the phone which is actually only a switch that you can set with 2 levels: high brightness when it's on and low brightness when it's off. I set the high brightness to about 50% and the low brightness to about 10%.
Oh and i also turned off the mobile bravia engine.

I usually kill the popcap Games app (which cannot be uninstalled if the phone is not rooted) and few other ones but they never restart.
I switched to AT&T last week from T-Mobile to get the Note. Overall the AT&T service has been good and the Note is great! My only concern is battery drain in no signal areas.
Specifically, I went to a movie last weekend and the theater was in the basement and there was no signal. At the start of the movie I had about 95% battery but by the end my battery was dead. I'm guessing the battery drained because it was constantly searching for a signal.
Is this common for the Galaxy Note? Is it common for AT&T? I ask because my t-mobile phones never did this. I've been to this theater many times, always had no signal, never had any battery drain on any t-mobile phones (sensation, galaxy s 4g, hd2, my-touch).
FWIW, my Note was completely stock but was rooted. I've since flashed UCLE2 and noticed the same drain in low or no signal areas. I'm sure I'll get suggestions to turn airplane mode on, or something like that. While I appreciate those suggestions I'm trying to determine if this is common to the phone or AT&T. I don't think I should have to switch off data/radio anytime the signal is low for fear of my battery draining in 2 hours.
Thanks!
While the battery does drain more with no signal, due to scanning for a network, as long as there is a signal it should be comparable to full service. That's a constant signal mind you if it goes in and out it is scanning.
I work downtown in a brick building surrounded by high rises, i get 1 bar in my office, my battery lasts me an entire work day.
What I did, spend the money on extended battery
Yeah I know you think 2500 mAH should be pretty good, but isn't, just spend the money on extended battery. Am at 26 hours, with fairly hard use, on Mugen 5400 mAH and have 15% remaining. Does add some depth to it, but that is the price, daughter ordered me case that fits over extended battery can't wait till it gets here. If you are interested can post pics once the case is here so you have idea on overall look.
Would no signal cause that much more drain? In the theater there was no signal. I couldnt browse or make a call. If memory serves there was a circle with a line through it where the 4g symbol would normally be. Still seems like an excessive amount of drain.

Oh yeah, if it is constantly looking for signal, will suck a battery down in no time. Job has me go to places in the mid-west, my supervisor and I just know to put in airplane mode or turn off in certain places or we will have bricks due to quick battery drain.

Interesting. Is this something unique to AT&T's service? I never had this occur with tmous. Maybe I'm just lazy but having to track if I have a signal all the time for fear of my battery draining that fast doesn't seem right.

Not unique to AT&T, but once you figure out where you get no signal it becomes automatic reflex to go into airplane mode or turn off. Would assume since AT&Ts network coverage is larger than Tmobile would not occur as much.
just got one for me and bro.
i got no signal half a day during work and it keep searching for it.
by time i finished, lost about 5-10% most.

Wow. Big difference from what I saw. I think I'll need to go back to the theater now that I'm running UCLE2. I'll install CurrentWidget and see what is going on.
Maybe it was a fluke...hopefully cause I love this phone!
I have a Telus SG3 (Canada) and my battery was empty after 7 hours without any usage (stand by and a couple of text messages that's all). This was happening mostly during the week (when I'm at work).
I suspected something with the LTE and taking the subway. Yesterday my cell battery was draining really fast, I decided to reboot the cell phone and the draining stopped. I was at 60% at 12h32pm and then 46% at 13h42 without any usage (lte and wifi on, stand by). I rebooted my SG3 at 13h55 while I was at 43%, afterwards much better, I was at 40% at 15h12pm and 36% at 16h48.
Today, I closed my cellphone before entering the subway and opened it up after the ride. It's 14h00 and I'm at 86% !!!!!
I'm telling you guys, this is a huge concern for Samsung. But for now, I'm just glad I found an alternative to this huge problem.

This is normal. When your phone loses signal...the radio works twice as much to try and gain a stable signal back. So even though you're not actually using your phone, it the radio causes your phone to stay on. Unless you put your phone in airplane mode.

But why should it work twice as much after I regained the signal (I'm talking about 45 minutes ride). The battery drain starts when I get out of the subway station.
I have no signal at work and the battery would be dead by the time I would head home. Now I put it on airplane mode > use wifi + google voice to text. The battery is usually around 70% when I head home.
