[Q] CM7 True colors after a month - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hey all.
I really love CM7 BUT after a month it gets really laggy and and hangs lots If I flash a Kernel of some sort will this prevent it? And if it does, which Kernel?

Thats coz of the cache files, clean dalvik and cache once in a while to get smooth ui

Uninstall crappy software and games. That will improve your phone's performance. Pls don't blame the ROM like you've done on the thread title.

Bali vs Glitch YOU choose

Which one would you guys recommend to me most?
I'm currently on Bali, have been for about 12 hours, and its given me a few hours extra on battery life, but i'm wondering, is Glitch even better? I don't like to flash things I don't need.
So you guys tell me.
This is to help me, AND others that wonder the same question...
Havent tried bali yet. Luuuurve glitch tho. Voodoo color is a plus and my battery life is much better, about 5 hrs more than stock redux. But as doon as bali gets voodoo color [which is soon] ill try it.

Well, I'd say glitch is for the more technically/tweaking due to it have voodoo color, up to 1.7ghz oc, insane work into UV and oc stability based on your chip quality.
But Bali might have slightly better vibrant specific support since it's from a mostly vibrant oriented dev. But Bali might be more generic in the features it has (this sentence is not meant to be read as a knock or rude in anyway).

glitch is awesome, previously terrible battery life and stability was questionable, but after latest update v11 battery especially is amazing, and getting some good UV aswell

I will try Glitch, but is the battery still good even if I don't Undervolt, underclock, over clock, or anything just flash the kernel?

let me know how it goes, if bali doesnt go as well as expected in the next couple days ill probably try out glitch
Glitch seems to have better battery life, and thats what i wanted.
Bali gives more than the usual from CM7, but glitch goes over Bali, this is great, and the phone actually sleeps now.
thanks guys
Are you guys trying this on froyo or GB? Or it doesn't matter?

Gb, and more specifically, CM7/miui. And it's only for that.

I never got how to flash a kernal. 2 years into android and I'm still clueless-__-. Do you flash it like a normal rom? I have miui running. Do I just flash? Wipe?
Im fairly new to flashing kernels as well, but you DL it, put it on your internal SD and flash it like you would a rom. Thats all I did when I flashed Bali.
So far no real difference on Bali, my battery drain on cm7 is still terrible but I just flashed it today so Ill give it a couple more days
I always had crappy battery on Glitch, and I'm talking 8-10 hours completely unused. Bali is vibrant-specific and gives MUCH better battery life, 15 hours and still had 30% left.

for bali, you do it normal, and for glitch to be safe, theres a script you have to download, and first flash that, then the kernel.

Actually, glitch has implemented that script into the kernel flashing.

IDK if there's a version for Froyo ROMS.
Glitch is for CM7, specifically, idk if it will even work for miui- you need to pay attention to the title, which i never read.
but it is for 2.3 roms as far as i know, and there MAY be one for froyo in the future if enough people contact the developer asking for it.

[Q] Anyone else having this issue..

Getting major anxiety on which ROM to flash?
They all give us something different and all are so good. I can go back and forth nearly twice a day.
Im stuck between
-Viper
-Synergy
-Ava
-Xron
What are your guys opinions on these?!
I've tries them all and I've been happiest with viper. Frequent updates and good battery life

Thats what im about to flash actually. I love Synergy too, for there built in scripts that you can customize, and the transition eye candy. But ill ill run Viper for hopefully more than a day
I'm a fan of viper ROM it runs so fast and smooth even without an OC kernel.

P500 cm7 stable?

Hi guys
I'm coming to you guys because my wife finally gave me her OK to mod her p500. :-D so i'm am not new to this at all, I have a x10mini and a NEO both running on cm7.
So i just have a few questions just to see if i have understood how LG works. Just that you know this i a huge forum here and i haven't read everything because i dont have time to, so please have mercy for maybe some what noobish questions.
So i already got it rooted and custom recovery running. And did a nand backup.
So now i need to know a few things, which cm7 rom is the most stable and full featured? Since this is my wife's phone almost everything should work.
Is a custom kernel needed? Or can it go with stock.
And do you flash kernels separate with fastboot or is it part of the custom roms, i believe i saw a cm7 rom together with a kernel to be flashed with recovery. An if not which kernel would you guys suggest fitting to the cm7 rom.
I hope that that wasn't too many questions and someone would take the time to awnser them.
Thanks

I would as many others will, recommend Mik-os's Cm7 port... its what ALL the other cm mods are built off for this phone.
The latest stable 6.5.8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
Then as far as a kernel, its up to you, the latest goldenleaf for ultimate battery life. The latest GBS, which is as i like to see it a blend from the ultimate performance of the straight franco kernel and battery life of goldenleaf (made by fserve, same person who makes goldenleaf) Both found here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227682
Or the franco kernel which has the best performance but probably not the best batt life.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049518
This is NOT to say that goldenleaf has crap performance, in fact i prefer it for its battery life and great smooth performance.... gbs and straight franco have a slight edge in synthetic benchmarks but probably not by much.
As far as flashing kernels its just like flashing the rom..... so after you have the rom flashed , reboot once completely, then reboot into recovery, flash the kernel zip just as if it was a rom, reboot out of the recovery, once to the os, reboot completely and your all good to go.
Thank you now i have almost everything i got to know.
what about baseband? as far as i know she has the old baseband. and the 6.5.8 ROM needs the new baseband right? should i do a offical FW update first to get the new baseband? or would i loose root?
i read that you cant flash basebands with recovery, only with fastboot? the fastboot toutouial looks preety complicated.
But also very interesting because you can't flash a kernel with recovery by sony only with fastboot and htc works also different.

No, not right. It uses the old baseband. Of course, you would know that if you had simply read the OP of the dev thread for that ROM, which nd4spdbh linked to.
my bad i read that above 6.6 is thew baseband but there is new kernel lol

nono, it's uses the old baseband. The newer kernel is not related to any thing about baseband. A very common misconception here by users.
camera isnt that important she had her birthday last moth and she got a digi cam from me
I'm using CM7 6.5.8 + goldenleaf more than a week. So far, everything works fine. Except - don't know about wi-fi, haven't tried it
Camera isn't that bad at all.
Most important - do all wipes needed before flashing a rom
6.5.8 has the occasional google maps battery drain bug. I just got it few days ago.charged the phone to 100% in the evening and when I woke up 46%. I use maps from time to time so uninstalling it is not an option. all other things are perfect though.

With data/gps/wifi turned off, i have just 3-5% gone in night..
Yes GPS was turned off. This seems to happen quite frequently according to some threads here in the forum. Haven't had the problem since.

FYI, running either Fserve's GBS OR goldenleaf kernels have the camera flicker fixed... its just as good as stock original rom now.

That is a bug with cm7.... itself... not just 6.5.8, it has to do with force closing an app which is using a sensor.... either GPS or Camera, DO NOT FORCE CLOSE an app that uses either of those... as the sensor never gets turned off which causes the batt drain. simply close the app (home button, or short press back button) and turn off gps via the notifications bar.
Run CM7 6.5.8 and the latest goldenleaf, with launcher pro, its the smoothest experience out there on our phones.
Just wanted to let you know that everything went well. I had absolutely no problems. And i am very satisfied.
Thank you all very much.

Thats a matter of opinion, I say the one that comes with 10.6, I think its the OC/UV by Nelson, that or Eugenes off the Passion Thread. I think more prefer Eugene.
Updating the kernel
I just bought my first android phone so I'm a newb (I've jailbroken several iphones though)
I'm on ICS Passion 10.6 and my phone says kernel 3.0.8_ICS_Passion-Vibrant-g0143457-dirty
I'm planning on updating to ICS Passion 11. Do I have to do anything special besides flash the v11 rom to update the kernel?
Many things don't work well on my phone and I'm hoping it's fault of the kernel/rom. Right now there's no menu at the top with signal level/battery life/time. Incoming calls/texts do not pop up any screen but I can hear a ring. GPS doesn't work most of the time, etc.

You mean you dont have a notification bar? If so, just reflash the ROM and everything will work. Don't add any mods from theexel btw, I tried to in v10.5+ and it broke the notification bar for me.

First wipe user data factory rest , cache partion and delvik cache,, and then flash v11,, I think eugene strimeline is good for passion rom. fps cap is expanded to 65, and very responsive.

Noob question perhaps, but how do you go about loading a new kernel for this device? I've done it using an app off the market on an LG albeit a while ago..
I'm having quite bad battery drain with this rom - may try the new nightly ICS if I cant sort it out!!

Flash a new kernel in cwm recovery, or cwm manager. Do not use ROM Manager... Sounds like what you used on the LG

I really feel scripts are not meant for ace I mean they are great but for higher range devices
It's just placebo effect + some battery drain + poor management of ram
No offense to anyone
So delete scripts if you have and see
