Hey all,
I don't post on the forums alot but im a frequent reader, I'll start by saying thanks to all of the devs here who spend so much time making awesome software for our phones.
Anyway, the problem I'm having is when using launcher pro plus, there is a noticeable lag between when i swipe my finger and when the homescreens start sliding with swiping between homescreens. I'll move my finger about a half of an inch, and the homescreen will not move at all. Then, after a certain threshold, it will suddenly "pop" and be right under my finger. The lag ruins the overall fluid feeling of the rest of the launch.
I did a bunch of searching (on xda, launcher pro forms, and google) and found that this seems to be a common problem across many devices, but no one had a good answer on how to fix it. I'm currently running supra rom 1.2 on rooted evo 3d with the ginger thyparancey theme applied, although i have flashed many different roms with and without themes and an experience the same issue across all of them.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a solution? Thanks in advance
It happens to me a little bit, not quite as bad as yours
After some more playing around i think i've figured out how to solve the problem. Enabling the "Keep in memory" and "Motorola Droid Hack" options seem to correct the problem completely, and i haven't noticed any negative effects. Sometimes the launcher begins to slow down again after my phone has been on all day and i've been using a lot of apps, but doing a kill all from the memory manager under quick settings fixes it again. Seems like this may be an issue with other apps using up memory and launcher pro not taking priority over them.
random ideas:
add line to build.prop:
debug.sf.hw=1
Increase VM heap to 48-64m
In LPP settings, find the fling speed and set as fast as possible (does LPP have that? lol)
If you still have issues come ask in the d3rp thread

I know they say they remove bloatware, but I also read that they just freeze the Motoblur apps so I'm not too sure how much of a speed improvement they give.
I'm currently thinking about buying an Atrix but all the reviews I read say that because of Motoblur it is laggy in a lot of places and it becomes an annoyance after a while. Do these ROMs completely fix that problem? Or do they only fix it a little bit?
It doesnt completely go away. For example, I still notice lag on my lockscreen and if I have a wallpaper going, whenever I open my app drawer(regardless of launcher) with Gingerblur 4.
Motoblur isnt THAT sluggish though unless you have a live wallpaper going. Just replace the default launcher, doesnt matter what you change it to. The default one is slow and somewhat irritating.
Has anyone noticed their homescreen has gone laggy when moving from screen to screen?
I like the default launcher, so I'm in no position to change it, but it's developed alot of lag since I first bought it exactly a week ago today.
Only plays up on the default launcher.
had mine over a month, and I find it to be the fastest android tablet in terms of switching screens...very smooth experience over here so far.
Thanks for the response - I wonder if a data reset would do the trick.
agreed that it is one of smoothest tablets on the market. I sometimes experience lag if I have a live wallpaper active. perhaps getting a task killer with a widget on the home screen could help quickly kill anything running in the background that could be the culprit of the lag.
Everything is running smoothly except the home screen and I don't really want to have to do a reset.... hmm
Have you loaded up your screens with tons of shortcuts? If I remember correctly it made my homescreen animations jerky but I then switched to Launcher Ex.

theres nothing on my homescreens lol
I agree with the OP, the launcher's performance is sub-par. I don't have any live wallpapers, or hardly any icons, no widgets, and I can see it's not perfectly smooth. I installed ADW Launcher which is clearly significantly faster and what I would consider perfectly smooth and fluid. Anyone that thinks their launcher isn't choppy probably just needs to compare against a trial install of ADW.
I like the look of the default launcher though lol
I find this very strange that people are experiencing this lag. I am using the default launcher, a few incons on main screen, and at least one widget on every other screen, some 2 or 3 widgets, and still super smooth... way better than samsung tablets, asus, motorola, etc....
Should I do a reset in the short term?
I stumbled upon a very interesting new launcher that's currently in development.

I tried it on my phone and while it definetely lacks a LOT of features that we are used to even from minimal launchers like Zeam, it's can be so incredibly fast and resource-friendly, I almost think it makes other apps run smoother.
It's a bit buggy and currently has no support for widgets at all, but it's very customizable ...and did I mention that it's fast?
I set the "All Apps" section to 3 columns and increased the top and bottom margins a bit (dimensions), set icon filtering off (miscellaneous) and reflections off (reflection). The app drawer is almost iphoney smooth now.
There is a bug that reverts the app icons on the home screen from time to time. I haven't found a way around it, nor did I find a solution other than to delete and readd the icons, but the dev is aware of the problem.
While this launcher might not be a potential daily driver in its current state, its worth checking out and following..
Looks pretty good, I'll test it out later and get some screenshots up of it!
Will give it a try to. thx
It's my daily driver now. It makes my phone so much more comfortable to use. I still fear that I'm imagining things, but I could swear that there are less app restarts and scrolling is smoother. I don't use any tuning scripts since they seemed to hurt more than they helped. The developer says that he's planning to implement some basic widget support. This can only get better, I think
looks very very good hope that the dev. work on bugs ^^
I like it, it just win7launcher
So, I like Sense 4. It's a lot more trimmed down compared to previous versions, and IMO 2nd only to Sense 1.0 (which ran like a champ on the OG EVO). But, it still has some issues, and I think we've all come along them. The point of this thread is to figure out ways which these issues can be fixed. Please, submit issues you have with sense. Here is what I have encountered so far.
1. Widget browser - Long pressing a screen will bring up the widget browser, which is very similar to Honeycomb. This is very clunky, and you have to scroll through page after page to find and add a widget. This is very annoying, and cumbersome.
What should happen: Long pressing on a screen should bring up the wallpaper chooser. To add a widget, the app drawer should be combined with the widget drawer like stock ICS/JB.
2. Multi-tasking - We all know that Sense's multi-tasking sucks. Not only the memory values, and the extremely conservative memory management which kills apps only a few seconds after you leave it, but the look. In stock ICS/JB, you can see and easily swipe away about five applications, instead of having a full screen, almost app in itself.
What should happen: Stock ICS/JB multi-tasking. This was implemented in the Charmeleon ROM, but that hasn't been updated in some time. Would be worth contacting the devs to see how they got the stock multi-tasking into Sense.
3. Overall memory usage - Sense uses much more memory than stock ICS/JB. Often free memory can get down to <100MB, which can hamper the overall speed of the launcher.
What should happen: Memory usage should be scaled down, using the already implemented memory tweaks, removal of un-needed services and applications, and more liberal task management settings.
So, feel free to submit any other problems you have with sense, and submit suggestions on how to practically fix it.

I agree with all of these but I really want the Stock ICS multitasking style.
"Widget browser - Long pressing a screen will bring up the widget browser, which is very similar to Honeycomb. This is very clunky, and you have to scroll through page after page to find and add a widget. This is very annoying, and cumbersome."
You're doing it wrong. You can use the dropdown menu to select the app you want a widget of, which can be quicker than the stock method. And the stock method isn't too much different from scrolling in Sense, besides the fact that you see more widgets at a time stock.
I agree. I'm moving storage from my phone, to my sd card just now, and I go into setting to cut my bluetooth off, and my transfer stopped. It's becoming very annoying by the day.
I'm definitely an unhappy customer at the moment. My phone doesn't restart my UI as much. Because I don't have Sense anymore. Thank god, for the Apex launcher.
Something has to be done asap. HTC should at least acknowledge the problem. Give us some hope. And to think there are some people, saying these things, doesn't bother them.

They did framework mods that mess with multitasking and kill tasks far too aggressively, see the One XL forums for more info.

But didn't HTC fix the XL's multi - tasking issue with an OTA? And if so, I really wonder why our OTA didn't include that same fix?

What about the horrid IMAP/POP/Exchange mail app? HTC really botched that one and has let it slide since people brought this up back in May.
Surely it's not too difficult to fix the "download images" option and apply smaller zoom/font sizes. No, K-9 is not the answer.
I have tried every launcher and I keep getting substantially annoying lag every other time I swipe a panel. Is there a way to stop this?

I noticed that too when I just bought the phone, especially with a 3rd party launcher. Syncing widgets can cause it or maybe sync in general, and the stock launcher is usually smoother than the 3rd-party apps. Lag on the homescreen is virtually gone for me using Nova but I'm already using a custom rom. Forcing gpu rendering might help but I never noticed any significant difference myself.
