Newest stable Radio for rooted froyo - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

as it says i have 1.16.00.402w_1 currently and was trying to figure out what the newest stable one was to flash i tried looking around but even though there were higher ver #s im not sure if they were for GB

They aren't "Froyo" and "Gingerbread" radios. There are roms built for MR1 and MR2. And which one you can update to depends on which ROM you want to use. You're on the latest MR1 right now so unless you want to flash a different ROM (assuming you currently have service), you have the newest you can use.

[Q] Need rom installation help

I just got around to rooting my TB and have attempted to install a couple of liquids roms. I had to revert back to the original backup both times due to loss of service? is it a requirement to flash a radio right after rom installatio?? Both of my Moto Droids were romed, but the Tb seems to be a different animal.
Any help appreciated, Thanks
ROMs are radio specific, older froyo ROMs use the MR1 radio. GB and most newer Froyo ROMs use MR2 and up. The wrong radio will cause you to lose service, the OP of your ROM thread usually lets you know which radio to run.

Thanks for the help, still learning!
No problem, that's what we're here for.

[Q] Wait, my phone is running GB perfectly fine, will I get Bricked?

I was areading a couple of treads saying GB radio will brick you and etc (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096104)
My Tbolt is running fine, but is it recommended I revert back to Froyo?
if so Do I just flash a Froyo ROM and use an MR1 radio?
You should be fine, I've been running Gingerbread for some time now. I believe it was concluded to be a hardware problem, not software.
I agree. I have been running several different GB ROMs with no problem. Some of the ROMs do have specific recommendations for the particular radio based on the testing by the ROM developers.
That being said, I recommend that you run a radio from an official release. For example, I did not update to the leaked radio, I waited until the last OTA was released and the radio had been yanked out of it for separate installation.
You should be fine. It seems like the vast majority of the people are on GB now. Understand tho that there is always a small risk of bricking your phone even on something that people deem "safe".
There's always a possibility of your phone bricking. It wouldn't matter if you were running Froyo or a GB ROM.

Upgrading to 2.3.5

How can I upgrade to GB 2.3.5 without changing to another rom which include an upgrade to 2.3.5?
I'm not entirely sure how you're expecting that to work, or why you'd want to, but if you're not on 2.3.5 and don't want to change/upgrade your rom, you cannot magic yourself onto 2.3.5.
If you want to go to 2.3.5 now, your only choice at the moment would be to use an AOSP rom.
I think the only 2.3.5 at the moment is the CyanogenMod , which is still in the nightly

HTC Hero 1.6 Update

I'm asking on behalf of someone else still on official OTA 1.5.
Should they upgrade to 2.1 or per my advice go as far as 1.6 Donut which was the last rock solid release from Android? It'd be best if they stayed on the stock ROM.
Current baseband is 63.18.55.06EU-6.35.06.18
I can't for the life of me work out what RUU is for what version of Android/release in the below thread so if someone can point out what's what then that would be lovely.

go as far as 1.6? 2.1 is the most updated stock rom for HTC Hero but are you sure they want to update to 2.1 ? the link you have shown is only for the HTC Hero Radio which isn't the Operating System and would't change much you want thishttp://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Hero/RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R_Radio_63.18.55.06P_6.35.15.11_release_signed.exe
That is stock 2.1 and and is better than 1.6 Dohnut but i would recommend rooting and installing Froyo 2.2 as most applications run on 2.2 and up [ not all but most new applications ]

At the moment, every android phones has been update to 2.3 ( most of them ). I think you should root your phone, unlock bootloader, flash recovery and update it . Wildheroc Rose goku 3.6 is good idea.

Moving on from Tweaked (4.1.2)

Similar to http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon/help/to-4-1-1-rooted-to-4-4-2-rooted-t3452315 I got my phone on the first release version (VRALJB) and unlocked & went with IMNUTS's Tweaked release up through 0906 (VRAM3C OTA based).
However, I noticed that the baseband still shows VRALJB. I'm assuming that this is the radio.
I know that to go to 4.4.2 "stock" I would need to flash the MJ9 radio but would I need to flash each of the preceeding ones as well?
Also, the thread mentioned above indicates to go to VRALL4 stock and then to a new ROM from there. Would I do that or go to a VRAMC3 stock or does it matter?
I forgot to mention that I'm also running PBJ kernel 0726.
