So a few weeks ago I used the guide in the Development section on how to root and s-off my phone. I followed all the instructions up to the period, something didn't work right or something..
It was this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192525
At first when I followed all the instructions to root and s-off, it showed Recovery in the Bootloader menu, and now it doesn't..?? I can still boot into TWRP using Quickboot from the market. My phone still says s-off and has permanent root too. Is there any way I am able to get the recovery option back on the bootloader menu? I just want this back because If I mess up installing a rom or something, then obviously I won't have the quickboot app if the phone won't boot up or something and I need to get to recovery through the bootloader!
Any help on how to get the recovery option back is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Have you tried pulling the battery for 10-15 seconds?
And not to sound like a douche, but these instructions have been out for one week as of today, not a few.
My days are really running together, but the battery pull worked! Thanks dude.
No problem, glad I could help.
A few weeks ago we had no s-off.

Dont forget also, you can go into your cmd prompt and type, adb reboot recovery
That will send your phone into recovery as well

So I unlocked using the HTC method, and then rooted the phone. I downloaded MIUI for Evo 3d, I went into bootloader (volume down and power) and I installed MIUI. So apparently I really messed up, and now I'm stuck in MIUI bootloop. I have no way to get back into Android.. I can't even use my phone at all. I remove the battery, put back in then hold down volume down and power. I get into the menu and choose recovery but it just boots back into the MIUI thing. How can I get back to android? I'm really worried here Did I mess up beyond repair? I'm freaking out.. I've posted on a few forums but no one has gotten back to me yet. I really hope someone here knows what to do, thanks.

If you're on hboot 1.5, and did not follow these instructions, then that is why. Follow that and you should be good.

I did use these instructions. Should I just go through those again?
Your obviously not following the instructions. hold volume down and power.. then go into fastboot. Plug in your phone and now it should say fastboot usb. From the command prompt navigate to the folder where you have teh fastboot and adb files. then type fastboot boot recovery.img
Recovery being the name of the recovery file in that folder "CWM****.img. Once you do that it will boot into clockwork recovery giving you fill access to write to the kernal. Now you need to flash the ROM of your choice.
I followed your steps. I am now at the teamwin recovery screen and menu. I went to my nandroid backup and am now installing this. I hope it works. I appreciate you help by the way and you were right, I guess I did overlook the step you mentioned
I am using hasoon2000's HTC Rezound All in One Kit, I followed the instructions per the forum / video that was posted. now you need to install amonra recovery then go into amonra recovery and select developer menu and select install su then reboot.
amonra recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com//showthread.php?t=1339679
I flashed the recovery via the all in one kit, it was amonra 3.15 (BG/ICS) Btw im running ics leak if that helps. (im a noob at this stuff, sorry ) where do i see amonra recovery?
Turn off phone, hold down volume and power... it'll boot to fastboot. Select "BOOTLOADER" using the rocker and power button. Then select recovery. It'll reboot the phone to AmonRa.
Edit*
If you've already RUU'd to the ICS leak, you may as well just get one of the many great ICS ROMs (scott, jolez, and bored are my favorites) and flash that while you are in recovery. You'll be glad you did. From then on you can reboot straight to recovery with the extended shutdown menus.
Where can i download those roms at?

I held the volume down key then held power button down. While holding the volume down & releasing the pwr button it only booted normally.
I noticed while holding both buttons down when trying again that the soft keys blink at the bottom. I hit the Home key in the middle and now every time it boots it says "SAFE MODE" in the bottom left of the screen. I tried repeating the same procedure, but it still boots while displaying "SAFE MODE" on the lower left of the screen.
I could still never get in bootloader mode.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I should add that I did use the RUNME method for rooting the phone a couple of days ago. This morning I installed the apk GOOManager to install TWRP. When I select reboot to recovery, it would say I need to do it manually which was why I started to do the steps I described above.

Thanks! Turned it off! I am now in recovery. It shows at the top:
***TAMPERED***
***LOCKED***
I'm a bit confused if we don't have S-OFF & it's still locked is it like the 3D with a locked bootloader?
Crap..then I chose to go into RECOVERY & it shows the small icon of the phone with a red triangle over it with the exclamation mark. Can't pull the battery! How do I restart it! Darn it... shouldn't have messed with it! I've rooted a dozen phones before this...
Well, it eventually rebooted on it's own. Whew. patience! It no longer says safe mode either which is good. I wanted to make a backup image with TWRP before trying other ROMS. I'm not sure what gives & why after using GooManager in didn't seem to install.

I never had a 3D, so I can't really help you there. Have you unlocked your bootloader through HTC Dev or did you just run the One Click Root from the development section? I ask because in order to install a custom recovery, you must have your bootloader unlocked, which only HTC Dev can do right now.
I used the one click method from the dev section watching the vid on Hack.com or whatever it was... using the RUNME.BAT

Yea, that's the problem, you must unlock your bootloader in order to install a custom recovery. Although I'm not sure if you can do the HTC Dev process with a "Tampered" bootloader. You might have to un-root first.

Thanks for the help.. I'll look into that. I'll have to turn this one in on a claim as I had broke the screen over the weekend...have to wait until my Defender case arrives 1st and more stock to come in so I can have fun with this one until I file the claim.

just hold down power for like 10 sec and it will hard reboot
it didnt install because your bootloader is still locked, you just have software level root.
Thanks for the help guys! I didn't know the one click method still left it locked. I'll do the HTC method then. I did that with my 3D...even though the bootloader was still locked...

So, I'm assuming you've never seen a stock recovery. The phone with the red triangle after you select recovery from the bootloader shows that first. As an added precaution, you then must hold vol. + and press power and it will boot into the real recovery. In order to flash any fancy ROMs or anything, you need to install a custom recovery. At present, TWRP is recommended due to it having the /misc partition error corrected.

No. You don't need to unroot first. I used zedomaxs root method then HTC unlock with no issues, then twrp recovery

Well that is good to know. Need to get ready for when MikLatTE drops
I cannot get into regular bootloader. It just either sits and stalls, goes to HTC screen, or just straight to recovery. This has happened on and off before but I was always able to get it after a few tries. I've been trying for 2 days since the new ICS was released by Sprint but it's been no go.
I believe I have 1.5 Hboot, but I can't tell for sure because I can't access it. I had to take the long route when I had to root with the HTC unlock thing, etc.
I've tried to get to HBoot using QuickBoot app and using the menu option within TWRP 1.1 and now 2.2 (thought that might be the problem, but guess not)...still just stalls and nothing happens after reset
I've been using only rooted OTA's on my phone and only rooted for bloatware removal and wifi tether. No custom roms. No ICS leak.
The buttons of course work. As soon as I take my finger off of the Down volume button, the phone will activate and boot up normal in some cases.
I don't know if this is causing other issues with my phone as it self reboots or freezes a few times a week. I was looking forward to ICS update because I was hoping it would fix the reboots and freezing. Everything else works fine with the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
try "adb reboot bootloader" and see if your phone gets into bootloader.

Don't you have to be in Bootloader to get the adb commands to work? I tried using fastboot to connect and no go.

Look under settings/battery or power saver and uncheck fastboot?
Then you can actually get into hboot.
AFAIK, adb commands work in android, fastboot commands work in bootloader.
just make sure USB DEBUGGING is checked in settings.
When that happens to me, I remove the battery for about a minute, put it back in, hold down volume down, then hold power. It will boot right to bootloader.

This caused a lot of trouble for me trying to flash MeanRom and Tribulattifather's ICS OTA with 4EXT because it kept trying to go into bootloader after the install to do the "smart install" or whatever. The phone would just black out upon reboot and sit there or if I tried doing bootloader manually, it would go straight to recovery again. I was up until 4 in the morning trying to get my phone to fully boot last night...never did.
Brought my phone to work today and left it off nearly all day. I thought I was seriously screwed and would have to do a RUU update/unbrick from work. Lo and behold it went into bootloader first try.
I'm restoring a backup now through TWRP 2.2 (because it doesn't have the smart install feature). We'll see if
What do you think is causing these problems? I don't want anything crazy...just a solid ICS rom or rooted OTA. Most ROMs I read suggest using 4EXT to flash, but I'm afraid of running into this again. Any suggestions or thoughts?
as mentioned above, installed the TWRP 2.2 from bootloader and restored a backup (that worked a long time ago). Now i'm having the same issue I had last night. It won't boot up at all except to recovery again.
For most people, being s-off is the best thing to do. S-on and ICS tend to bootloop. For some reason, 4ext and flash image GUI don't seem to work well in ICS either for some.
Have you tried flashing a GB ROM?

I'm going to have to figure out how to get back to complete stock. Everytime I flash a rom...doesn't matter what it is, the phone will say the flash is done, then reboot to...NOTHING...just a black screen. I've let it sit and nothing happens.
Followed a guide on androidcentral that had a nice restore to stock guide. Did the RUU from my computer and now it's acting normal again. It must've been really messed up because when I had it talking to ADB and did the reboot reloader command (as someone stated), the screen was solid black, though the RUU still saw it.
I have the white htc evo lte. I used the ota update before i decided to root my phone. now that there is a regawmod root update for OTA. but im still having problems. i have to manually put the phone in boot mode in order to start the process... also when it starts the automated process. the program get stuck on rebooting.... right after it flashes the recovery my now says unlock with tAMPERED right above it. thats as far as i get. is there something im doin wrong ive followed the directions to the T. please hellpp
Does it say failed or anything? How do u know it didn't work? Heard some people say that they had to press power to reset since the script woildnt do it and it still worked fine in the end.
That's what it is suppose to say, you've unlocked the bootloader and you've tampered with the software. If TWRP didn't automatically install then you need to install it, look for their post in the development section. Check in you app drawer and see if you have superuser app or super su. Install an app that requires root and see if it runs.
Thanks guys for your advice. Shortly after I posted this I just kept repeating the root process and it eventually went thru so far so good in my book. Thanks again guys

Ok so I have a question how do I backup my phone before I use htc devunlock or regawmod ... Every thing I see nandroid, titanium, all requires root. How do i root with out unlocking (wiping phone) bootloader? Is there a step I pause at during the process and then do the backup before continuing? Thanks.. Its my first time be gentle!
There's a thread here with a program that can do that.

I had this same problem, what finally worked for me was when I restarted to fastboot, don't actually select anything (I had been selecting fastboot -> reboot). Once I let my phone sit there for a few seconds it connected and was able to flash recovery and reboot on it's own. Then I made it to restart into recovery and voila, Root.
