i have a question on the LCD screen density, currently im using stock density ive never changed it before, but am looking into changing it, does anyone have any recommendations of differnet LCD densitys to use? do i gain anything out of doing that, and will it decrease battery life?
Also i had one more question, its about perfmod, is there a reason NOT to use it? iit looks like it increases performance HUGE on your phone, whats the downside? and is the performance increase significant?
Download LCDDensity from the market and try a few different settings. Just reboot to change back.
As far as perfmod, i think it can drain the battery faster, as can anything that increases performance, and apparently can cause some instability. I don't know for sure cuz I've never been without it.
Again just try it...

Hi all, I recently switched from stock roms on my fascinate to a couple different voodoo based ones (evil, community rom) and since then I've had a huge decline in battery. When I check usage stats the display is causing 80-85% of it. I have it set on the lowest brightness and it doesn't make a difference. Could this be related to voodoo being enabled?
Unlikely, sounds like you might have an app keeping it active. Voodoo changes the file system, should no cause an issue with the display.

It depends if he is using any of the voodoo kernel, which would impact color, sound and so on.
It is said to have impact on battery life while on voodoo.
voodoo or non voodoo display will always be the highest use of the battery. I've not noticed any difference in battery I get on average 30hrs of battery life no matter what

Thanks guys. I'm pretty certain there's no stray app causing the drain, I've tried closing out all processes for a day and barely using phone or data and it still says display causes 85% of battery drain. Is there any other possible explanation?
Honestly, compared to other things, your display drains alot more power than anything. I have had my phone in standby all night and it will still show display as using the most power, I run mine at 0% brghtness most of the day(because I am mostly inside) and no matter what mine always shows 80% or higher in Battery Stats.
I may be completely wrong on this but based off other discussions on this same topic. The answer seems to be the same. That the diplay compared to the phone process and so forth, will always be a bigger drain on battery life.
Hope this helps.
Its normal for the screen to be the highest. If you are getting decreased battery life then first thing to try is resettimg the battery stats and recalibrating. If that doesn't work then you'll need to take a closer look at cpu usage.
The thing bugs me most is the power drain. Sometimes an afternoon moderate use can exhaust the whole pool on stock firmware. I already have juicedefender installed, no big improvement. SetCPU may help but makes the phone extremely sluggish.
Up to date, among so many customized ROMs, which one is the most power saving without seriously deteriorating performance?
TIA
Behavior is more important than ROM in the long run. Turn off 3g more often. Lower your brightness and use your screen less. Run less stuff. Also changing CPU settings isn't the same as changing voltage. Check early on in the AOSP thread for results on that.

I'm assuming running on increased DPIs sucks more battery life, since there's more of everything being displayed. My question is: how significant is it? Anyone compared? Or maybe it doesnt suck any extra battery. That'd be awesome.
Changing the DPI adjusts the size of everything on screen. If you change it from 240 to 200 everything will be sized down. I don't think it sucks more battery actually.
I'm curious if anyone else is having an insane battery drain just from Using the screen. this is my first Android device after switching from an iPhone so I'm not sure if it's normal but with auto brightness I still get 60-80 percent battery drain. I have a Us AT&T version of the S4.
you do realize this is a forum section for the HTC ONE not the S4. #2 screen drain is the #1 thing that will use battery on your phone. might need to play with the auto adjustment values on your phone. For some odd reason most manufacturers tend to make those settings awfully high from the factory.
you must be rooted to do this and probably gonna have to find someone that has already adjusted the values that you can just flash otherwise DONT use auto brightness and just change the brightness as your condition requires.

haha first post from my phone and I end up in the wrong forum lol. well I appreciate the reply I'll look into routing it. appreciate it!
In case you do look at this, the screen on your S4 is five inches. Of course it is going to consume the most battery.

So ive noticed a marginal increase of battery life on my shield tablet by switching the power mode to 30 FPS and I was wondering if there was a way to change the G3's display refresh also? I just like experimienting with stupid settings like that. I dont use my G3 for games, mainly GPS and youtube, so refresh isnt that big of a deal to me. I would just like to find more ways to squeeze battery life and performance, as if my ZeroLemon isnt enough...haha.
Any help/Ideas would be AWESOME! Btw, running Eclipse!
