Here's a little boot animation I threw together from the Movie Alien's Teaser Trailer.
I installed using absolute system root tools.
using root explorer rename attached alien.zip to bootanimation.zip and move it to /system/media folder.

Note quite sure how to make a flashable .zip, so if anyone has any info on how to do that, I would appreciate it.
Here ya go:

Thanks, is there a package manager to make these?

No package manager. You just have to zip/unzip correctly including update binary and script. If you unzip the one I uploaded you will see the folder structure. If you open the update script with notepad, you will see how that works.
The CWM zips are different for Froyo and Gingerbread, and that is why I tend to name them with 2.3.4 in there.
It's really straight forward. You can pretty much figure them out just by unzipping and analyzing one. I included the audio folder in this zip even though there is no audio, but if you wanted to add audio you would modify desc.txt appropriately, and drop the audio file into system/media/audio/notifications before zipping again.
If you download a couple of animations from here -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15529644&postcount=1, you can unzip them and examine the structure. They are almost identical.

The instructions in the post indicated here for update scripts will not work on Gingerbread, (2.3.4/4.5.91). This works with Froyo.
Also, the audio location changed from /system/media to /system/media/audio/notifications with Gingerbread.
wow i flashed this its cool can i make just one request that you take a look at the alienv3 and can u make the text in this animation like a neon green color it will go perfict with that rom and theme thank you??!!
beemed up useing an alienv3 s-off, bootloader unlocked!! /overclocked /faux123(thanks)for all the great development on these awsome devises!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll take a look, the animation is direct from clips from the original trailer, so I don't know how good edits will turn out...

As long as the kernel you've got installed supports bootanimation.zip files it should work. However, I placed my zip in the /data/local folder. Either should work though, I think.

No i didnt edit anything.
Here is the file attached, that i renamed to bootanimation.zip on my phone.
Doesn't work. I had the same issue and yes I know how to change bootanimation.zip because I've just done it three times prior to trying this file.
Great list, thank you.
Would you happen to know if there's any way to preview these before use?
Also, I've never changed my boot animation before, I've read elsewhere in this thread that you have to have a kernel that supports it.
I'm currently running 2.1 Vibrant stock, only thing I've done is rooted it so I could have access to things I wanted like tethering, screenshots, etc.
Would you happen to know if I can change the boot animation through Clockwork Rom Manager the way my phone is right now?
I'm running Axura 2.1, does anyone know if I'm able to change the boot animation on this? I've tried it already using root explorer to transfer the file but when I do it gives me an error that says the file is only read only.
Is it the ROM or something I need to do to transfer the file properly?

_____
Please let me know what you think of the screens that I upload. Also all suggestions are welcome!
The animated previews you see on this page are low quality animated gif images which are set to loop through the whole sequence, the final files that you get will have good quality animations with proper loops.
Hope you find these useful.
So here is a video of a few select bootscreens. Just wanted something better than the Gif's above, (still not that great) all these look even better on the phone.
How to use these Bootscreens.
First off this is a basic guide, if there are easier/better/correct methods, please do let me know
Please read the full guide before starting.
Theory: So once you have the bootscreen.zip downloaded, you need to send it to your phone's internal memory in a particular location. Generally this location is data/local, but depending on your current ROM the location may differ.
Things required:
Rooted phone
Root explorer (or any similar app that gives you access to edit the internal memory eg: super manager)
Procedure:
Copy the downloaded bootscreen.zip file to your sd-card.
Open root explorer (or anything similar).
(backup) Just in case anything goes wrong or if you want to keep a copy of the original boot animation, copy to bootanimation.zip file you find in data/local directory to your sd-card.
Long press the bootscreen.zip file that you downloaded and copy it. (in root explorer long press open context menu, may change depending on your app)
Navigate to data/local on your phone's internal memory and paste the file. Accept the prompt about replacing the file that already exists.
You're done!
Reboot and enjoy.
Note: If the bootscreen.zip file is not found under data/local run a search through the app or on the ROM zip package that you have installed to get the location.
For those of you running CyanogenMod 7, you dont have to replace the original file, placing the bootscreen.zip file under data/local is enough.

Hey I like the N1 animation alot, but it seems to go too fast... if I simply change the 30 fps to say, 20, will that make it slower? and will it take longer to boot because the animation is slower, is there a set amount of times the animations run before you enter the OS itself? Or does the animation run untill the OS loaded up?
Can anyone post the download for the animation and pretty much how to make it my boot animation? I'm alright with reflashing a rom, currently on Bionix 1.3.1 by Team Whiskey.
Thanks!
Don't expect others to just give you things.
Just so you learn...
Download one of the NERO roms ( i'm guessing nero is where this boot animation is )
Then extract it on your computer
then go to system/media on the files
take out
bootanimation.zip
and put that on your SD CARD on phone
now replace the bootanimation.zip from the nero to w/e you want.
Just make sure your rom supports boot animations some don't.
PM me if you have trouble following his steps.
You will have to use Root Explorer from the market to move the bootanimation.zip file from your sd card to the system/media folder.

Yup, it's that easy. This was one of the first things I tried after rooting. Just make sure the file permission are set correctly on the new bootanimation.zip folder or you will get a default "android" bootanimation.

Do you still have the captivate? If so I may be able to fix it for you and if I can't I know Josh from mobiletechreviews.com probably can. I would try for the cost of shipping with no guarantees, Josh charges a reasonable fee but it would be worth it to have it working for a backup. Have you tried using a jig on it to get into download mode?
You can pm me and hopefully if you still have it we can get it running for you again.
