ADHOC WiFi working on Verizon 4g LTE 10.1 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Themes and Apps

Ok, time for another quick fix for the 4g LTE Tabs out there:
AdHoc WiFi so that you can get your Netflix going without blowing through all of your tiered tablet data!
Again, none of this is stuff I wrote, just stole from other threads and brought here.
Step 1: Root your Tab (See my other walk through if you need it)
Step 2: Download THIS wpa_supplicant file written originally for the Xoom. Doesn't matter where on your tab you download this to.
Step 3: Replace the file on your Tab
1. Turn on Airplane mode so that all of your wireless activities get shut off. Your tab won't let you get rid of the file if you have it still in use by your wifi.
2. Unzip the wpa_supplicant_xoom_wifi_adhoc.zip file that you downloaded above
3. Use Root Explorer (or similar) to navigate to \system\bin and rename your original wpa_supplicant file as something else (BackupWPA or whatever). You will need to "Mount as Read/Write" first.
4. Move the new wpa_supplicant file into \system\bin
5. Long click on the new wpa_supplicant file in Root Explorer and select "Permissions"
6. Click (activate) the check boxes under "Execute" for Owner, Group, and Others so that your system can use the new file (this is the chmod 755 step in adb or terminal emulator)
7. Un-mount as R/W in Root Explorer and Turn Off Airplane mode and you should see your wireless network pop back up (a * for the adhoc ones)
There appears to be a bug that the system will create multiple copies of the adhoc networks whenever you connect, but you can just Long Click to "Forget" the ones not in use.
Hope this helps someone else!

[Q] root access with ES File Explorer?

Will someone please help me get root access with ES File Explorer?
I was looking for a good file explorer utility with a root explorer feature. I already had ES File Explorer installed and saw that it supposedly has a root explorer feature. Well, I've searched all through it and I must be missing something because I can't find any way to explore anything on my NT except for the sd card.
I've went into the settings, down to the Root settings and checked Root Explorer and Mount File System but this hasn't seemed to help. I see no way to "get to" the root directory. If I try using the up arrow to move up a level in the directory tree, I can't get up any further than the sd card. It just say press again to close.
What am I missing?
Thanks to anyone that may be able to help get to where I want to be.

In settings, and you need to set home directory as "/". Then you'll have access to the entire file system.
What tgraves said as I have complete access to my nook with Es File explorer.
duh! That was so easy. Now I really feel like an idiot.
I think my wife is right. Sometimes I can make even the simplest things seem soooo hard...
Thanks for your help guys.

Not a problem
I wanted to say thanks as well as I was wondering the same thing today, didn't think it would be so simple as just changing the home
ES File Explorer Root
Good tip.
Thanks
don't worry... this was a great thread to start because i just found it with google and was looking for this answer also!
whoot!
Tell your wife she's always right
Trust me...
If you don't want to change your home directory to '/', you hit favorites and hit the icon that looks like a phone. That should take you to '/'. I think that's what the icon looked like. Anyways it's in the favorites menu.

I had been looking for the exact same thing. Thanks for your help.
I have the little phone icon so I assume I'm in the root directory. Next question - since this is where the additional 12 GB of space is, is there a "best place" to put my files that I don't want to tote around on my sd card? We're talking music, docs, etc.
Also - Is there a method so I can see "/" when connected to my laptop? Would rather move files directly to the root directory than have to copy to sd card then copy/paste to "/"
I find root explorer to be better.

in the setting, tick all the boxes for "root settings" then from the "/" directory, you will be able to access the internal storage and others ( sd, 1gb space allowance)
What I meant was, is there any specific folder under "/" that I should put my own stuff in, or maybe create a new one?
B&N put all the reserved free space in '/data'. See this thread for workarounds. Accessing it via USB is another story, so you'll probably need to copy files to the 1gb partition then move it. Another option would be to use Wifi File Manager. Depending on the speeds you get via USB it may not be a bad alternative.
When using ES File Explorer to move music files from /data to /data/media it says "invalid path." When I tried moving it to a new folder I created under /data, it also failed.
Questions:
1. Is every folder under /data locked away from access thru ES File Explorer?
2. Is my only option to store content directly under /data?
Root the Access.
hi..
I have ES File Explorer installed and i want to install other font(.ttf). but when try to copy from sdcard and paste in '/system/font' folder, it shows an error : copy failed.
In Setting --> Root Setting, only first two options are enabled 1) Root Explorer and 2) Up to Root. other two 3) Mount File System and 4) Backup System Apps are disabled.
Also, when I try to check 1st one Root Explorer, it shows an error:
When 'SU Request' dialog popup, please select 'always allow'
can any one help me to install font in my android device?
Thanks<script type=
i cannot erase any file with any root explorer

Have you enabled Root Explorer's "Mount R/W"?

[Q] Start-up sound

Hello, i have an huawei u8180, on it installed cm7 v1.1 subpsyke
i want to know if is there any mettod to set up a start-up sound (ex like windows or ubuntu).
sorry for my bad english
use this not my i found on cm forum
This is what you do.
1. Download this shell script here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10373328/bootsnd.sh
2. Place it on the root of your SD card & then open Terminal & type the followingsucd /sdcardsh bootsnd.sh
3. Now by using a file manager program with R/W (Read/Write) go to the /system/bin in your phone & make sure the file has transfered over! It should say BOOTSOUND & have permissions set to rwxrwxrwx! for this I use Root Explorer or you can use File Manager once you have selected R/W
4. Before transferring your sound file over rename it on your pc, android_audio and make sure it is a .mp3 file. Transfer the sound file from your pc to the root of your SDcard. Now move your sound file you want to play when the phone boots to /system/media of your phone & rename it android_audio you will have to be in R/W mode! Typically fifteen seconds is plenty long and just perfect, however anything over 30 seconds will get cut off.
5. Reboot & enjoy your new BOOTSOUND B)
If your having trouble getting sounds to play this should fix the problem.
Here is how to fix it. Make sure you are mounting in R/W mode on each of these steps.
To start go to
/system/etc/init.local.rc
and open it in the text editor. Delete everything from
###Bootsound - Safe to Delete: Start###
to
###Bootsound - Safe to Delete: Stop###
Delete any instances of IT
Using a app like root explorer, goto /system/bin and delete the file bootsound.Back out to /system now open build.prop in text editor mode, look for this text.
ro.config.play.bootsound=1
Delete it from the build.prop and save and exit.
This is optional but recommened. Reboot phone. Verify no sound is playing.
Now run the script again and reboot. You should have a boot sound again
working good) thx
p.s. how to decrease volume? (because it's dissorting)

How Install apk from sdcard using internet browser

What if you need to install an apk from sdcard but you don't have a file manager installed yet, and to make things worse you don't have internet access to download it from the market!
Well, there's a solution to that. Provided by every internet browser available.
(I suppose you have one installed
Here's what you need to do:
1. Put the apk file in the main directory of your sdcard. Rename it to something very short for easy typing. In this example, I will use "fm.apk".
2. Boot your device. Goto Security Settings and check "Unknown Sources".
3. Open your internet browser. In the address bar type "file:///sdcard/<filename>.apk".
In our example above it should look like this: file:///sdcard/fm.apk
4. Press "Go". That's it! Installation started!
