I noticed that my Tab seemed to get a bit laggy earlier today, so I fired up system panel to see what was going on with the CPU. I found that android.process.media was using 100%. After a quick Google search, I found a temporary fix - clearing the media storage data.
It was all good for a few hours, then the same thing happened. Again, I cleared data. Same scenario - good for a few hours, then started again.
After more research, I found that there could be a file on the storage partition causing the issue. The question is, how to I find out which file it is? I've deleted most of the pictures, but that didn't seem to help. I also booted into recovery (CWM) and cleared cache, but I'm not sure if that fixed the problem just yet.
I've listed the details of my Tab below, any help is great appreciated.
Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi -- retail
Stock, Rooted, ClockwordMod Recovery
TouchWiz UX OTA
Everything seemed to be fine for a day or so after clearing the cache in CWM, but I just checked and android.process.media has been using more than 90% of the CPU non-stop for the past 27 minutes.
I can't seem to find any correlation between this issue and running apps, either.
I get this sometimes as well, but a reboot seems to fix mine. keeping an eye on it with watchdog.

Try clearing the cache via Manage Applications > All > Media Storage then reboot.
Still FC'ing
I have been having this issue as well. I noticed in running apps that Lookout was running android.process.media inside it, so I completely uninstalled Lookout, but the issue still exists. I cannot download or update anything from the market at all. I have cleared all cache including Dalvik cache. I am running the latest CM7 (CM7.1.0-Supersonic , Build GWK74) on an HTC Evo4g. Has anyone gotten this completely fixed without re-flashing the phone again?
Also, application called Torch is crashing every single time I tap the light bulb to use the camera LED as a flashlight. I do not use the High Brightness setting and the only way to actually get it to turn off is to go back into it when it crashes and select the Strobe feature and let it crash out again. Then it will actually turn off without having to reboot the phone, but it still shows the torch icon in the top corner. The FC error is : process.net.cactii.flash2
Any thoughts?
Thanks for all your help.
Thanks for posting this.
I just had the same problem, uninstalled lookout, and my media.process hasn't crashed anymore.
I had this issue a month ago, cleared some cache and didn't do anything. I installed different radio and it solved the problem at the time.
Before posting here, I looked extensively for someone with a similar issue reported and came up empty. I also tried PPCGeeks a couple days ago and got no response. I thought I'd run this issue by the real experts before taking my phone to Sprint "experts" so that they can swap it out. Here are the details:
My Photon 4G has been rooted since right after I got it about 8 months ago and has had no problems like this until now. The only app that has updated in the last couple days is Busybox and that was the night before this all happened. My battery died and the phone did a forced shut-down that night. I plugged it in, powered it up, and let it charge all night & then noticed the problem the next morning.
I'm using DejaOffice for my calendar and contacts (contacts are also synced to the native phone list) and I use companionlink to sync everything from my desktop (Windows Vista). When I looked this morning, everything in DejaOffice was purged including my preferences (screen color, alarm defaults, etc.). I re-synced everything, powered off and then back on, and had the same problem with everything being gone.
Next, I tried purging DejaOffice data and un-installing it, re-installing it, re-syncing and then powered off/on and once again everything was gone. Finally, I did a factory reset on the whole phone (and forgot to backup my voicemails in the process...grrrrr), re-installed DejaOffice, synced, and had the same problem once I power-cycled.
One more thing to note is that before doing any of this, I attempted a backup with "My Backup Root" and got a message that my phone was no longer rooted.
It seems like the internal memory on my phone is being wiped every time it's shut down. I know the quick fix is to not shut the phone down however I'd like to get to the bottom of this and see if I need to get my phone replaced.
Any ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
<bump> and update:
I noticed that my "webtop version" is "unavailable"...not sure if that makes a difference to my problem. Also, when this problem first presented itself, I noticed it because the ringtone that I usually use (which was stored on the phone's internal memory of course) was gone.
Once again...any help or replies would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
This is really annoying and quite random, but my S3 will randomly reboot after installing new/updating an app from the play store.
After the reboot, it installs/updates just fine until a later time, where it will reboot again.
I've re-installed the ROM/kernel, wiped both caches, and checked for this thinking it may be the culprit but found nothing so far and the issue still persists.
Did anyone of you guys ever come across this?

factory reset from recovery and flash a stock firmware via odin. (facebook and chrome apps sometimes causes freezing issues..read somewhere on the internet).
Hi,
I'm looking for some general advice and troubleshooting for my phone's issues. My phone started crashing very often, sometimes at complete random, as well as when I was using it fairly heavily (any app that froze my phone for a second before loading before the crashing would now crash my phone). Sometimes it would reboot fine, other times it would bootloop once or twice before reloading fine. I previously tried doing a factory reset, removing my external microSD card, and updating everything via Kies and nothing worked.
I got bored and rooted my phone, did a full wipe, and flashed the latest Infamous update. The problem was still there but it wouldn't crash as often while using it because my phone could handle higher app activity but it's still there. Oddly enough, after flashing Infamous, it often fails to reboot and so I have to do a battery pull before turning it back on, otherwise it won't even vibrate after holding the power button.
I'm just wondering if you guys have any idea what the issue could be. Is it likely still something I can fix? Is this potentially a battery issue or is it a hardware issue?
Thanks so much!

So when your phone have become unstable , in what condition it was ? did you ever flash it before ... so my s2x did the same thing afer a update with odin on 4.2 ... so i have reflashed it and evrything was working good after
I recently restarted my phone after the battery died, and now everytime it gets to the lock screen, I can unlock it, and it'll function seemingly fine for up to 30 seconds (usually more like 5-10), but then it automatically restarts.
The only apps I've installed since last restarting, maybe a week ago, are FolderSync and Tasker. It's possible I haven't restarted since installing AnyConnect and OpenConnect, although I'm pretty sure I did restart at least once after those, and haven't touched them since. OpenConnect did have some permissions fix item in the settings menu that would supposedly attempt to get it to work on devices where it wouldn't (it didn't work on mine), so that has me suspicious, especially since it seems sometimes these boot loops are related to permissions errors.
I'm running Philz recovery, which I can get into fine. I read about a permissions fix in some recoveries, but Philz (at least mine) doesn't seem to have it.
When the battery died, I was connected to a bluetooth speaker, playing music with Spotify. Not sure if something could have gotten corrupted having it die while the bluetooth connection was active.
It's a T-Mobile S5 and the ROM I'm running XtreSoLite 2.1 Lollipop XXU1BOC7.
Any suggestions for things to check to get it to stop restarting? If I have to wipe it, are there any ways to sort of partially wipe it? Are there a series of things I can try that would go from least extreme (not losing anything) to most extreme (fully re-flashing)? I have been able to open an adb shell and pull everything from internal storage that I don't want to lose.
Thanks in advance for any help.
