Now that we are rooted can we have Google Chat with VIDEO? - HTC EVO 3D

So now that we have root, can we have Google Video chat too?

Yes. There's an app in the market called Google Talk installer or something like that. that's what I used

Your a little late to the show OP. But, yes. Yes you can.

How do you video chat on Skype?

Downloaded app but no video option? Assuming it doesn't work is there an app that talks to Skype?
Works for me though I downloaded a 'hacked' version, one that works with the E3D.
Uploading apk now. Will update post when done.

Let me know if it works.

I tried the link above. It didn't work. Thank you though.
If I was at home it be much easier to do. I'll get you the link though, Skype!.
well
Anyone try this?
Uninstall the one on your phone first, then install this. http://db.tt/YCIx0Kn
Tested working, thanks. After Fring removed the Skype plugin this is the only alternative for Phone->PC video chatting.
Hope Skype updates their app soon for the 3d.

My Google Talk version number is listed as 1.3 and phone OS is 2.3.4, but my talk still has no voice and video. Anyone know what this is about?

I believe 1.3 is the latest.
Is it working for you? if so, are you on stock non rooted.
Have you clicked in your name within the app and then check marked allow voice and video? Yes, 1.3 is the newest one.

I'm aware. But none of the instructions work. Followed similar procedure to when on 2.3.3 but without the libs since they should be in 2.3.4... No dice. Even tried with libs. No worky

I don't understand why HTC and Motorola (photon 4g running 2.3.4) have the latest updates ( 2.3.5 is more for the nexus s 4G ) and video talk doesn't work out of the box, there is not point of changing the number if everything doesn't work as aosp gingerbread

I have the latest GTalk according to the version number. It's the old version though, I know about clicking on my name and selecting voice and video. There is no option there. I had the 1.3 on before the update and it worked great, now after the update the app is back to how it originally was but with a different version number. It's not with video at all. Flashing didn't work before when I tried it on 2.3.3

Try flashing a rom with it already built in. every rom i have tried has the newest gtalk already installed
Im on wtsb now and i have gtalk with video and it runs great. also have skype running as well. Im a happy camper just flash a custom rom if you root..
Working Video
I downloaded the file from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062980
extracted the Talk2.apk and pushed it to apps from recovery in ADB. I didn't remove anything (which seems odd), but I now have working video in Talk.
Edit:
I tried a video call and it failed. I had to follow my own instructions from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16192477&postcount=29
Yeah I took the Talk2.apk from ViperROM & renamed it Talk.apk. I used root explorer to move it & fixed the permissions.

I don't see what's so weird about it. different search engines turn up different results, even once you ignore the paid results...

funny. I was unaware of the difference.
wonder why my stick figure comics page comes up from bing sometimes?
low stats and I never submitted it anywhere but google and Yahoo.
If you can get over the fact that it comes from Microsoft, the Bing app for Android is actually a pretty good app.
Here's a review of it: http://www.androidcentral.com/bings-android-app-redesigned-brings-bit-metro-it
I use the maps piece of it as I find the traffic overlays are more accurate than Google maps traffic.
The issue from the other thread (which unfortunately escalated into a shouting match) is that the latest version of the Bing app has something going on whereby the market thinks it is not compatible with 2.3 roms (I've tried both IHO and asop) and you cannot download bing if you are running one of these roms. If, however, you download Bing using a 2.2 rom and then restore it to a 2.3 using Titanium or another backup program, the program runs fine.
I don't have many more details than this. If you want to help debug and solve this probem, please post! If you are not interested, please let us work on this without snide comments about "why would you want to use bing?"
And please, do not post in the IHO thread. All Bing discussion should remain here.
Only bing I care about are cherries and Crosby.

Afraid i'm little help.
I rarely to never use the market... haven't flashed gapps in over a month (never yet on iho)
I always search out app downloads on the interweb instead of using market.
if you try 4shared.com you might be able to get a current version of the bing app.
I only use northern lights

Yahoo uses Bing's search results. If you submitted to Yahoo, it's also on Bing.
While it doesn't show up in the google market it does in fact show up in the Amazon app store. This seems to be either an m$ issue or a market issue. Not sure why everybody is so passionate about this as there appear to be multiple ways to install it all legit like.
Unfortunately, the version in the amazon app store is very old (version 1.02.530.20110404 which is from April.) The latest version in regular Android market is 2.0.546.20010811, released August 15)

As pointed out amazons app store as amazing as it is. It is lacking in updated apps. Partly because the approval process is a pain in the ass and partly because some devs stop messing with amazon because of the trouble to get updated apps pushed.
Another thing amazon app store doesnt check your phone to see if you can install the app all the time. Only if the dev has specifically done so upon uploading. I can download apps that will not work on my optimus from amazon and android market has it hidden from me.
There's noway that someone could just post the apk?
So i'm running IHO id have to flash like bumblebee or something? download bing, backup and then reflash iho??
Or just get it from Amazon
Sent from my LG-VM670 using xda premium
Ok but the one on amazon is an old version.
To me, the issue is not so much having someone post a copy of the apk (which is really a band-aid fix.) Rather, I'l like to harness the collective brain of this community to determine a root cause and see if we can find a fix or patch.
For example, is the issue caused by the market seeing O/S 2.3 and thinking it's not compatible?
Or, is it caused by the carrier ID code? (So, for example, can we use Market Enabler https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.racic.android.marketenabler&hl=en to work around the problem?)
What's wrong with Bing? its not like anyone uses it >.>
so i tried market enabler and i still wasn't able to see the bing app on the market. But i think that market enabler does not work with the latest version of the market. is anyone here on a 2.2 device? try to download bing please!

Simple Banking app for Android

If you don't already know them, here is a link: Simple
They are a small start up bank that is all online and relies on the app to function. Well they finally released it for android Here. But alas, it is not "compatible" with the DNA. I pulled it using APK Downloader and installed it manually, it seems to work just fine. I haven't set up an account yet, but the app seems to function.
As a new card holder, I can now officially report that the app works as intended. After some conversations with Simple Tech support, the reason this was withheld from the DNA was scaling issues with the highres display, but I have yet to see any issue. This is a very cool bank.
Edit: Update on functionality.

I can't post the APK because of size restrictions and I don't have a host. But here is a link to the APK Downloader Chrome extension that I used. Pretty simple and straight forward.

It looks like the DNA is now officially supported! The Simple app is now available for the DNA in the Play Store.

Last YouTube APK for GingerBread that doesn't require Google Play Services?

Hello XDA!
As the topic states, what's the last version of YouTube for GingerBread that doesn't require (or prompt you to download) Google Play Services?
I'm specifically asking for such a version and not for a "solution" a la "you can just tap out of the prompt".
Not what you want to hear but ... there was such a release of the youtube app?
Yes, i have 2 versions: one like ogyoutube 4 and one that is stock youtube windowed, that begins on sdk10 (GB).
All those does not obligate gms accounts

What do you mean "windowed"? And what version of the youtube app is it? Btw, it needs to work with Gingerbread.
PS. I have a google account, I just don't want the bloat that's called "Google Play Services".
This haves a window video (inside the app), for watching minimized, while searching another video.
I found this app, inside a zip of a custom rom (i don't remember what rom), it's a modded app, this shows 5.0.21 but is not found on web.
I agree with you, gms for me, is a virus, someday i found "root activity"
Inside the apk ativities. Without superuser or adb.
Virus that damage all devices...
