Overclock results?? - HTC EVO 3D

Has anyone overclocked their 3d yet?? If so how fast and how does the phone run??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

2GHz

Sent from my rooted 3D

Stupid fast. I'm only overclocked to 1.5Ghz right now, but literally everything is instant. It feels very snappy, and surprisingly, it's battery life is decent. Usually lasts about 20 hrs or more depending on what kernel you use (I use Netarchy's). I couldn't even imagine how fast it would be with proper gpu acceleration.

Do you notice a major difference between a custom kernel on a rooted og evo? Im tryna see if its that much faster or will it kinda b close once i reroot my evo4g

[Q] CPU Question ?

I have the 2.1 siyah kernel and i left it in perfomance govener for a few hours by mistake is it ok too run 1.6ghz for a few hours stright
Actually SGS2 is too fast already and i see no need for OC at all
Anyway, i don't really know about that kernel, but i believe that at 1,6GHz it increases voltage which isn't too good thing and might reduce processors life time.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Unless you make 100% usage at 1.6 ghz for some straight hours, its not going to harm you and your mobile except your battery life
Heat is a cpus worst enemy. Also keep the voltage in mind when ocing. Your phone will only be running at 1.6 under full load so a couple of hours of max activity will get the phone hot and with heat come instability.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I dont know if it was running %100 cpu but it was at 1600mhz the whole time right now everything is ok but it seems to get slightly warm quick and runs 31 celius battrey but that might just be normal

Safe overclock speed

Im new to this phone, came from the incredible, on that phone i could clock sense 1.075 and aosp 1.113. What is a safe speed that is stable on this phone? Thanks for the help!
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Safe is stock clock speeds. Overclock is different for each individual device produced. Only way to find your devices limits is to test them carefully.
I OC'd up to 1.5 for a while but honestly, I barely saw an appreciable difference in performance
it was pretty stable though!
I've been using setCPU to underclock while the screen is off and keep the speed from dropping under .7 while the screen is on, but not OCing at all...stable, snappy, and I'm getting a few extra battery hours to boot.
Thanks for the replies, ill play around with it.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I've took mine to 1.9
Luke
pointless to OC. i am under-clocking at 768mhz max/245mhz min lagfree and is flies
I ocd, then backed it down to normal. The difference in speed was minimal, difference in battery was muy grande!
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
1.2 is probably a safe speed for most tbolts. I personally don't oc though. No need.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt powered by KillaSense 3.6
as stated above there really isn't any performance gain when overclocking I ran at 1.6 for a few days and never noticed a difference so i dropped it back to normal and again noticed no change. I think the real gains in performance are made by installing a rom.

How many people use LiveOC over stock OC System

Who prefers LiveOC over the regular OC system?
Just wondering.

I prefer to use voltage control and overclock the ol' fashioned way lol...I have played with nstools and live oc, but its more than I really need.

For a day or two.
But using my phone day to day.

enyo... I have tested with glitch kernel at 1.7 ghz and i currently hold the record benchmark for this device on antutu using performance governor. After testing for a half hour at that speed i fell asleep with the phone stuck at that speed. I'm typing this message with that phone now. That was done with glitch v13. The most i ever got from high clock speeds was freezes and reboots.
However, if you get stupid with live oc the story can be very different.
But to give an idea of what my phone handled back then, go to the cm7 glitch thread and check what the gpu/buss speed was at 1.7ghz. But remember that those bus/cpu speeds, and voltages were finely tuned by tk , and you probably won't be able to push that hard with live oc.

So just overclocking, @ 1.5GHz or 1.2GHz and, monitoring the temp, processor will last just as long as it would non overclocked?

It's all luck. Chance. Fate. If tk has not burned his phone yet i would say you have a lot of catching up to do to get the mileage he has. I had mine overclocked 1.5ghz for a few months.. And guess what, i have never monitored temp. But hey, i pay an extra couple dollars a month on top of insurance for lifetime warrantee. So i think my phone burning up would fall under that. But anyway, your stressing out to much over it.

no heat and i use it daily...first time i can ever say this when overclocking to 1500. i agree with neh4pres posts...becareful with live oc it can screw your device up quick. most folks will never see any benifit by using live oc imo anyway. part of the reason why i just use vc...
I actually use 10% live oc and 1200mhz step... All voltages stock. Fully stable and it FLIES

I must have every bit of speed. That said here's the setup:
ICS AKOP 25 Glitch 14 B5 for 6.0
1200 step with 118 LOC
Glitch OnDemand with some OV and UV. (see pics)
Live OC is the way to go as you get a boost to your GPU and RAM in addition to the usual CPU bump.

with the devil kernel i have been running 102% loc between 200-1000mhz. on glitch i can oc up to 1500mhz with no loc, soon as i add any loc the device freezes. im guessing my leakage is not dialed in correctly for glitch, also i get a bit nervous playing wit arm voltages.

Looks like the 1.2 S4 CPU chip we have is just an underclocked...

Of the 1.5 s4 in the One X... I have my incredible 4g overclocked to 1.5 and it runs smooth as butter and stable. Ran through stress tests and benchmarks and its a go....

If you happen to keep running this for a full day, would you mind reporting back how much the overclock affects the battery life? Thanks a lot for this, it's great news!
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda app-developers app
depending on usage, I imagine it would be minimal. I assume the CPU underclocks itself when idle and only goes up to 1.5 during heavy usage like playing a game or maybe launching an app. so if you aren't doing this most of the time, then I would imagine the power usage would be pretty much the same. I'd be more interested in how much hotter the phone gets when playing a game.

Hmm... That is a little bit more of an effect than I expected.
Of course, we will probably be able to minimize the effect overclocking has on battery life by installing custom kernels (once we have them) with more battery efficient CPU governors. As far as I know, the default CPU governor for Android is still ondemand, which scales up to the maximum frequency very easily. Something like smartassv2 or lazy would probably do a better job.

I think they're both great you can't go wrong with either kernel. It's like choosing a lamborgini or ferrari, they're both awesome but it truly comes down to preference.
I think I got better battery with faux 31 but I under clocked and undervolted so I can't do a fair battery life test.

Sorry for a question within a question, but what does undervolting/overvolting do? I've only ever tampered with MHz frequencies.

Don't worry.
Undervolting is basically adjusting the voltages so the cpu uses less voltage aka electricity. It helps a little but it can make your phone unstable so watch out. Of you undervolt use the system tuner app on the market. You should definitely under clock if you want to save power too. When you undervolt be sure to underclock, and don't do it too low or your phone might freeze! That's why your shouldn't go so extreme on it.
Overvolting is basically adding more voltage to the cpu. There is no point in doing it for our amazes to be honest. It is already a battery hog. I guess it can help if you want to over clock a lot but there is absolutely no point in doing that.
In older legacy phones if you wanted to over clock because the cpu would be so weak, like 600mhz then you would have to overvolt to over clock to like 1ghz if you were lucky. Our devices are 1.5 ghz dual core and sense isn't THAT bad. There's no point in doing overvolt in this phone though.
PS, check out my rom in the development section.

I just saw it in Venom Tweaks and was curious. The most I underclock to is 1 GHz; cuts down the CPU maximum by a third and doesn't hinder performance to much. What voltage would you recommend at that clock speed?
P.S. I have I plan on flashing it to try it out when I get WiFi access. Trying to cut down data usage since I don't have WiFi at home.

1ghz is perfect. As for voltage it really varies but I subtract 75 or 50 mv from all voltages.
