I was just wondering which system apps were safe for removal.
The main ones I'm looking at removing are:
World Clock
Social Hub
Media Hub
Music Hub
Voice Search
Music Player
My Files
Would removing these screw anything up? I realize I could just rename them to a .Bak file or something to test it out but I'm not sure if the effects would be immediately noticeable. Thanks.

Removing those would not cause any problems for you.

How do I exclude folder on the stock Vibrant's music player?
I believe you can put a period at the beginning of a folder to hide it from being indexed from the Gallery or Music applications. (So a folder called ".Music" would be hidden.)

This is true. I tried this when I wanted to hide my custom ringtones from the music player, but when I did it hides the folder from the entire system. The result was I could no longer choose (see) custom ringtones from the system settings. I wonder if there's a way to hide files/folders from the media player while still keeping them available to the system sounds settings. On my mt3g, the media player ignores files in the directory sdcard/media/ringtones. On the Vibrant, the player shows all media files no matter where they are placed. Anyone?

I got around it by renaming my ringtones from .mp3 to .mid, seems the music player ignores .mid files.
But since the stock music player doesn't have a homescreen widget, i went ahead and bought MixZing, which lets you select what folders to play music from.

Thanks. I'll try that if I repurchase the Vibrant after Samsung fixes the GPS/Compass.

...and the .nomedia file it recommends placing does the same thing as putting a period in front of the folder title, thus hiding its contents from the system settings.
I wanted to ask the community if they could recommend an app for al my .mp3 tracks. Something that would organize my tracks, or allow me to do so, and possibly display cover art.
Free apps that are great are:
Zimly*
WinAmp
DoubleTwist
Paid apps that are awesome are:
PowerAmp*
PlayerPro
* = my choice of that group
What ROM are you on? HTC music is nice, it's what I use. I know that there are better music apps, but HTC works well. I used IDTag to make sure all the tag information and it shows up fine.
Poweramp

Try HTC music or Google music? Those are already on your phone (well, google music might not be).
Otherwise...

Thanks for the replies. I am currently using HTC music, but I would drag and drop a folder of music on the flash card. The folder is from the same music group, but the artists are different. In turn I have a mess of tracks, when I would originally like to have it show the folder, and the option to play the entire contents of the folder.

not sure if I understood right but if you want drag and drop UI like how you would put music on a ipod with itunes then definitely try out DoubleTwist. It was a Windows client that emulates itunes.

I have once used an Apple product; Ipod...and then gave it back the next week. I'll give it a shot if it makes my .mp3 experience easier.
Looking for some computer software that I can use as my standard to play music and then sync up with my android. I'm using windows media player for now but I'm not a fan of it for these purposes. I'm looking for something similar to zune. preferably ability to instant drag and drop sync like zune or at least similar. and also i want it to be able to update... ie if i edit song info in the program i want my phone to reflect those changes (useful for when i have 'unknown artist' showing up on my phone). album art would also be a must
thanks!
I am using itunes on my pc and i sync with wifi tunes sync on my android and pc, works geat for me

Subsonic is the only music player I use anymore, the version in the market is broken in ICS though. You can find newer builds on their forum...and if you don't know what it is, it converts and streams anything on your computer to your phone, it also keeps a cache of stuff you have steamed for offline playback, you can choose the cache location and size too

Yeah I'm really not looking for any of that. Just want something as an easy and clean way to transfer music to my phone.
Tried using double twist and I think it was the worst program I've ever used. uninstalled. Are there any programs that clearly die me a songs sync status? I don't sync all of my music so I like to be able to see whether or not I have synced something yet without having to bounce back and forth

FTP, drag and drop.
I might do a tutorial because I purchased double twist airsync, it works, but its kinda slow and I prefer drag n drop.

I'm using MusicBee, it syncs and transcode, also delete files that are not in your library/playlist
You can sync your whole Library or just a Playlist
I don't think you need anything to sync with PA
The problem with poweramp is that it doesnt save the rating for the files. otherwise, there is no need to sync anything. all there is to save is saved in the music file, or can be exported directly from PA.
Ok, probably another stupid question by me this morning! But is there any way to set a default music folder in the stock music app? I had the same problem in my galaxy s in that it was grabbing any music or sound files on my phone rather than just from the spot I keep my music. I had tried the .nomedia file on my s but that didn't work properly for me. It then started excluding my custom ringtones from working. Granted, I haven't tried it again on my s3, but it would be much neater if it would just scan the one folder I want it to.
I am rooted if that helps in any way? It is just a pain that it scans everywhere. I remember it picking up all the sound files from some games I had on my last phone.
Call me Doofus! Should look further before I ask things. Doesn't seem to be grabbing music from anywhere other than the folder I put it in. Not bright...

I've tried hiding my custom tones that I've downloaded at various points in different places on my phone (T-Mobile Galaxy S4), inclding the external SD, but to no avail. For example, I added a high quality .mp3 clip of a old rotary phone ring to use as my ringtone, I put it straight into the ringtones system folder.
Very next time that I start up Google Music, there's new stuff from 'unknown artist," low and behold, the ringtone.
Super annoying, part of the reason I was paying for all access to use Google Music was to have a clean, auto-organized library. I don't want all of my sounds system-wide added to my library, and I can't seem to find any way to change the folders it searches, or even to remove it from the library within the app once it is added.
Anyone have any ideas?
Isn't their a setting that let's you chose what folders Google music can see. For instance, in poweramp you can go into the settings and unchecked the folders.

Not one that I can find. The app is definitely on the side of simple/sleek rather than full options, which is nice except when you need to change something like this.
i think changing MP3 to ogg will solve the problem and put it in system/media/ringtones
