Ok, probably another stupid question by me this morning! But is there any way to set a default music folder in the stock music app? I had the same problem in my galaxy s in that it was grabbing any music or sound files on my phone rather than just from the spot I keep my music. I had tried the .nomedia file on my s but that didn't work properly for me. It then started excluding my custom ringtones from working. Granted, I haven't tried it again on my s3, but it would be much neater if it would just scan the one folder I want it to.
I am rooted if that helps in any way? It is just a pain that it scans everywhere. I remember it picking up all the sound files from some games I had on my last phone.
Call me Doofus! Should look further before I ask things. Doesn't seem to be grabbing music from anywhere other than the folder I put it in. Not bright...

With my X10i, i got use to using Media Go.
Arranges folders etc on the SDCard under a folder caused Music.
Obviousley i copied this filde from my SDCard onto my S2 Sdcard.
Im still using Media Go for now, but have to manually refresh/rescan in Poweramp eveytime.
Anyone else having this issue.
Back on topic. Whats people using to transfer music? I like to make sure they have covers etc, and to continue putting them into the SdCard/Music foldr, into relevant artists foldr etc.
I'm not sure about the relevant artists function but I use doubleTwist because it pulls the playlists from itunes and syncs all the music with your phone in a folder called music on your sd card if you want. I think if you wanna use poweramp you have to manually re-scan your library every time new music is added, not sure about that though.
Good afternoon folks, I'm just curious if anyone can assist me with a quick question/issue I am having. I have done a search for my answer previous to creating this thread (and registering even), asked elsewhere etc, but didn't and couldn't really find anything pertaining to my exact problem. Of course, I may have missed or overlooked it, and if so, I apologize.
First, my phone and what not. (if more information is required, I'll provide)
LG Optimus One (LGP500h)
Rooted - Gingerbreak v1.20
Have tried .mp3 and .ogg with same results.
What's happening is; I've created my own ringtone(s) and am trying to have them separate from my music, but no matter what instructions I follow the custom ringtone ALWAYS appears while listening to the music I have on my phone. eg: when I walk my dog listening to an album, my ringtone lists as a music track and plays as one.
I have tried the numerous tutorials out there for doing this:
- create separate ringtone/alarms/notifications folders on the SD card
- create the above as sub folders within the media folder on the SD card
- create the above as sub folders within the DCIM folder on the SD card
- create the above as sub folders within the Sounds folder on the SD card
All of the above locations allow me to use my custom ringtone no problem, BUT when I listen to the music I've added to my phone via the stock music player, my ringtone plays as if it was a song, so I get a 30 second ringtone in the middle of an album. It's not really a big deal if I keep my custom ringtones limited to one, but it does get a bit annoying if I want to add several custom ringtones.
I'm curious to what I am doing wrong here, or if this is just the cost I have to pay to have a custom ring tone - I've searched all over and haven't found a solution, nor found anyone else having this same issue which leads me to believe I am doing something incorrectly.
I'd prefer to not use an app that downloads music for ringtones, as I am a musician myself and have created my own, so I'd just like to use the one(s) I create and not have them appear as music tracks.
Thanks in advance for any insight or help.

I'm not sure about any fix for the issue. But I think if you use a 3rd party music app like PowerAMP, you can select where you want the app to scan for media. You can exclude some folders for scanning. But if you prefer the stock app, the you can have a workaround: Create a playlist with all the albums except the ringtone album (categorize all the custom ring tones under a single album). This way you can always play the playlist, which will not have the ring tones album.
Try it and see if it works!
Thanks for the quick reply! I feel kind of silly now that I never considered using a different player, or even making a playlist as it seems kind of obvious to me now. I'll check out some music players (like PowerAmp) and will post again if this solves my problem.
Again, thank you for the quick response.
Under Sound Settings and Phone ringtone, I remember it created a Ringtones folder on my sd card. Then I would put my custom ringtones in that folder. I would never hear it when I was going through my music. I am also using PowerAmp and it scanned only the music folder.

Try it. It's a very good app. But personally I don't like it because of its UI. I prefer the simple, clean stock music player.

Unfortunately I didn't have the same results, and had to create my own.

Thanks gkarthik16, your suggestion seems to have solved my problem.
I also liked the stock player, but not enough to have to deal with my original issue. I tried out a couple free players very briefly, and although I'm not sure about PowerAmp's U.I just yet, I'm going stick with it for now and see how it works out and consider purchasing the full version. I imagine I'll get used it for my needs.
Thanks again.
Hey i have only just purchased my Galaxy10 tablet, i have put a few songs on it but it still says in the 'music player' that there are 0 songs. I am able to listen to these songs individually in 'my files' but i cannot open anything else up (e.g. i cant listen to music while working on polaris office).
Is there something im missing that will easily fix this? or is it a problem with all the galaxy tabs.
Thanks, Nic.
I mentioned thi in your other post, but make sure the music is placed in where the player looks for music. I had this issue with different players looking in different folders and not showing ones the other players would. There's another suggestion in the other post, but I forget what it was. something about clearing the cache in settings/apps/music player you're using. I think.

thanks for the reply, i have tried moving my files around, still no luck. I also read the other suggestion on my other post and i cleared the cache/data of the music player and still didnt make a difference. ill continue trying to fix it though, and hopefully will eventually get it .
Thanks Heaps for putting me that one step closer, Nic.
Post what music player you're using. That will help too.

im using the one that came with it, which is 'Music Player'. I also tried using 'Winamp' but still had no success, if you know of any better apps to use for this it would be greatly appreciated.
any one have any other suggestions on what i could do to fix this problem??
It would be helpful to know where the files are located and what format they are.
Also try moving your music to /sdcard/Music.
hey, umm all my music is in .mp3 format. and the music is in 'my files/music'.
would it make a difference if i used itunes to sync the music from my pc to the tablet? (at the moment i am using 'windows media player' which is up to date)
is your tab rooted? if so, try use root explorer, find the folder and make sure there is no .nomedia file in that folder.if so, delete it and try open music player back
Shouldn't matter, no. Move it to the folder I said and see what happens. Music player is probably looking for them to be in that folder.
ssss
hey, I had the same issue. the fix is simple, go to apps--> Music player and you'll find you music there. if you open the music player in the tray on the bottom of the tablet you wont find your music.
I've tried hiding my custom tones that I've downloaded at various points in different places on my phone (T-Mobile Galaxy S4), inclding the external SD, but to no avail. For example, I added a high quality .mp3 clip of a old rotary phone ring to use as my ringtone, I put it straight into the ringtones system folder.
Very next time that I start up Google Music, there's new stuff from 'unknown artist," low and behold, the ringtone.
Super annoying, part of the reason I was paying for all access to use Google Music was to have a clean, auto-organized library. I don't want all of my sounds system-wide added to my library, and I can't seem to find any way to change the folders it searches, or even to remove it from the library within the app once it is added.
Anyone have any ideas?
Isn't their a setting that let's you chose what folders Google music can see. For instance, in poweramp you can go into the settings and unchecked the folders.

Not one that I can find. The app is definitely on the side of simple/sleek rather than full options, which is nice except when you need to change something like this.
i think changing MP3 to ogg will solve the problem and put it in system/media/ringtones
hey guys,
ive searched the web and cant find any answers to this so here goes:
i Listen to audio dramas and mostly get them as podcasts with itunes, i dropped them onto my sd card so i could listen to them on my phone, they are all in folder format separated by chapters.
on the sd card they are labeled folders 1-47 however, for some reason every media player ive tried, even folder player which is meant to simply play items in folder format rearranges my folder structures so instead of 1-47, it only shows the first folder "chapter 1" then its 11 on wards with the missing folders scattered in between and in media players they are seen as one album and randomly structured throughout.
how do i get it organized? ive tried podcast players, lots of paid/free media players none of them do it. it has to be android as in itunes and windows for that matter they are all in order.
does anyone know why it does this? i remember android doing the same thing years ago and i just used to fix each item individually but really that isnt an option now since there are 100s of mp3s
i dont see what the difference is from music albums to these, i even set them in a album centric folder structure to see if that would work but no dice. its really annoying
any insight on this would be great,
thanks
Name 1-9 as 01,02 etc should keep them in the right order then

Thanks for your reply. Already in 00 format, doesn't do a thing unfortunately. I've found a work around by simply using a podcast app and downloading direct to the device.
