[Solved] Custom Ringtone - Optimus One, P500, V General

Good afternoon folks, I'm just curious if anyone can assist me with a quick question/issue I am having. I have done a search for my answer previous to creating this thread (and registering even), asked elsewhere etc, but didn't and couldn't really find anything pertaining to my exact problem. Of course, I may have missed or overlooked it, and if so, I apologize.
First, my phone and what not. (if more information is required, I'll provide)
LG Optimus One (LGP500h)
Rooted - Gingerbreak v1.20
Have tried .mp3 and .ogg with same results.
What's happening is; I've created my own ringtone(s) and am trying to have them separate from my music, but no matter what instructions I follow the custom ringtone ALWAYS appears while listening to the music I have on my phone. eg: when I walk my dog listening to an album, my ringtone lists as a music track and plays as one.
I have tried the numerous tutorials out there for doing this:
- create separate ringtone/alarms/notifications folders on the SD card
- create the above as sub folders within the media folder on the SD card
- create the above as sub folders within the DCIM folder on the SD card
- create the above as sub folders within the Sounds folder on the SD card
All of the above locations allow me to use my custom ringtone no problem, BUT when I listen to the music I've added to my phone via the stock music player, my ringtone plays as if it was a song, so I get a 30 second ringtone in the middle of an album. It's not really a big deal if I keep my custom ringtones limited to one, but it does get a bit annoying if I want to add several custom ringtones.
I'm curious to what I am doing wrong here, or if this is just the cost I have to pay to have a custom ring tone - I've searched all over and haven't found a solution, nor found anyone else having this same issue which leads me to believe I am doing something incorrectly.
I'd prefer to not use an app that downloads music for ringtones, as I am a musician myself and have created my own, so I'd just like to use the one(s) I create and not have them appear as music tracks.
Thanks in advance for any insight or help.

I'm not sure about any fix for the issue. But I think if you use a 3rd party music app like PowerAMP, you can select where you want the app to scan for media. You can exclude some folders for scanning. But if you prefer the stock app, the you can have a workaround: Create a playlist with all the albums except the ringtone album (categorize all the custom ring tones under a single album). This way you can always play the playlist, which will not have the ring tones album.
Try it and see if it works!

Thanks for the quick reply! I feel kind of silly now that I never considered using a different player, or even making a playlist as it seems kind of obvious to me now. I'll check out some music players (like PowerAmp) and will post again if this solves my problem.
Again, thank you for the quick response.

Under Sound Settings and Phone ringtone, I remember it created a Ringtones folder on my sd card. Then I would put my custom ringtones in that folder. I would never hear it when I was going through my music. I am also using PowerAmp and it scanned only the music folder.

Try it. It's a very good app. But personally I don't like it because of its UI. I prefer the simple, clean stock music player.

Unfortunately I didn't have the same results, and had to create my own.

Thanks gkarthik16, your suggestion seems to have solved my problem.
I also liked the stock player, but not enough to have to deal with my original issue. I tried out a couple free players very briefly, and although I'm not sure about PowerAmp's U.I just yet, I'm going stick with it for now and see how it works out and consider purchasing the full version. I imagine I'll get used it for my needs.
Thanks again.

HELP

hello all i got my phone today.
How can i put my own ringtones on it.
I am not sure of the file types i need or anything. I dont even know where to go to select what tone i want. please help
if you want to use ringtones for specific contacts (e.g. a sound will play and when you hear it you'll know it's from your friend joe) then you'll need third party software such as ringtonex (mtux). ain't free though; i forgot how much i paid for it but i've been using the app back when i started with my xda1. still using it up to now. like the ringtone i use for my boss is the pacman sound when he dies...
for ringtone types; wav files are the ones you need...however you can also use midi and wma if i remember. if your unit is on activesync with your pc; simply copy and paste the wav file you want into the xda's windows folder. this will allow the ringtone to be used by other apps such as alarms or sms notification. or you can also paste it in the window's "rings" folder where the phone will automatically recognize the file as being a ring tone option. then just go to settings for the phone and click on that file you want to use.
hope that helps.
thanx a million worked like a charm
hey its not finding wma files though
i read somewhere in the forum that you can use wma files as ringtones...just don't know how to do them and never really tried. not sure about this but most wma files i know are associated with mp3s as well. wma is a lower quality sound alternative to mp3s; i have wma files for songs and they range from 800-900kb as oposed to 3+ meg mp3 song files. so the way i see it (and i could be wrong about this) to use a wma file the xda would have to be able to get it from the memory or the storage card (?). but that would mean having a wma ring tone which is around 900kb in size...something that you don't really need coz eventually you will answer the phone after like 10 seconds. so no point in having the whole song as a ringtone really since you won't get to hear it to the end. that is if the other chaps in the forum are doing something different that is wayyyy easier than i really think it is
what i did was record bits of a song i have on storage; then use that as my ringtone. example; i have an mp3 of fernanda porto and i like the opening sequence. what i did was use my notes app; ran the song through media player and when the part i liked came i then recorded it. the file is in wav so it was easy to use it as a ringtone....
cheers
it need to be 2003 before it can use wma
they need to be put in windows\rings
you then add them with the program called add ringtones
in settings
ahh i dont have 2003, i was told 2003 is better not to have cause it messes up alot or something i dunno.

Music file associations

Can some one kindly explain tome how to get my music file
associations back to standard please.
After downloading Coreplayer I noticed all my music files
had converted to Coreplayer association with the corresponding
CP icons in my file explorer,I would like to change this back.
Cheers for any help you can offer....
Open up core player, hit the menu or options button and you can get to tools then pages and you can find file associations just uncheck mp3, not the best description because i dont use it any more sorry, but its something like that

Cheers bud,I've done that, unchecked a few things and it seems the
WMA files I've got have reverted back OK to
Windows Media Player and have the right icon, but all my MP3's have the
Windows icon you usually get with programs and aren't selectable to play
from File explorer,if I select a track it just drops back to the home screen.
Music tracks are still selectable from HTC Player....
I'm at a brick wall at the moment, don't know what to try next ?
have you tried a soft reset?? and all so tried opening a track through windows media player that way it might pick them up
Yep tried that and updating my WM library, everything plays OK
but I still have this strange icon issue in File Explorer and
of course I can't select them to play from within there...
Seems like I will have to delete all the music and re-load them again,
all my ringtones and notification tones have stopped working.
Strange that they will all still play in hTC music player, but
are not selectable via File Explorer.
I would have liked a definitive answer to how to cure this, but
hey ho something to do on a rainy Sunday removing all my music files.
I ditched Coreplayer, not only did it cause this issue by associating all my
MP3's to itself,I found it quite irritating to use.
Well...deleted everything and uploaded all music files from my laptop again,
still no joy,I really need some more advice...
All my music files are still showing as Windows files with no music association...
please someone help !!
I can't get any of my music files to select as a ringtone,I missed several calls, texts and emails...
for the ringtone try dropping it into device-app data-sounds, i have no music on my phone, but i put ringtones there cause ms instructed me to do so, only problem is ringtone showed up in player and is ur music in ms format - wma i believe - i do not use i got 1.5 gb songs ipod format hope it helps
i decided to try and answer here instead of hd2 place
I have replied to your issue in another forum. Try using Resco File Explorer or Total Commander to set the file association back to wmplayer.exe.
Thanx Web,
but the issue isnt where the files are stored, they do already show up in my
selection of available ringtones and notification sounds (I had already been using them,so they are correctly placed in the phones folders.
The problem is if I click on one to hear it before deciding to select it for
shall we say my main ringtone nothing happens due to it
not having the correct file type....
I have selected 'Opens with' as WMP and they will open up from File Explorer
and play perfectly OK
and also in HTC player, but the file type is showing as 'unknown type'
instead of the generic HTC music icon it should have....
Hope that makes it clearer ?
OK I tried your suggestion Web and ringtones work now... thank fook for that cheers...
although they appear as more than one copy of each in the
selection folder now, this isnt a problem as I know to select the top
version of each to my alotted ring tones and can just delete the
other copies from where I have them stored.
So everything plays as it should now,it's just the icons that
are wrong.
thanks markt77 - appreciate the input - i try - and i am learning good knowledge from u and the other folks over there - boy it is sometimes really hard to get a response at xda when u request answers

[Q] Music Player isn't working.

Hey i have only just purchased my Galaxy10 tablet, i have put a few songs on it but it still says in the 'music player' that there are 0 songs. I am able to listen to these songs individually in 'my files' but i cannot open anything else up (e.g. i cant listen to music while working on polaris office).
Is there something im missing that will easily fix this? or is it a problem with all the galaxy tabs.
Thanks, Nic.
I mentioned thi in your other post, but make sure the music is placed in where the player looks for music. I had this issue with different players looking in different folders and not showing ones the other players would. There's another suggestion in the other post, but I forget what it was. something about clearing the cache in settings/apps/music player you're using. I think.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using one finger.
thanks for the reply, i have tried moving my files around, still no luck. I also read the other suggestion on my other post and i cleared the cache/data of the music player and still didnt make a difference. ill continue trying to fix it though, and hopefully will eventually get it .
Thanks Heaps for putting me that one step closer, Nic.
Post what music player you're using. That will help too.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using one finger.
im using the one that came with it, which is 'Music Player'. I also tried using 'Winamp' but still had no success, if you know of any better apps to use for this it would be greatly appreciated.
any one have any other suggestions on what i could do to fix this problem??
It would be helpful to know where the files are located and what format they are.
Also try moving your music to /sdcard/Music.
hey, umm all my music is in .mp3 format. and the music is in 'my files/music'.
would it make a difference if i used itunes to sync the music from my pc to the tablet? (at the moment i am using 'windows media player' which is up to date)
is your tab rooted? if so, try use root explorer, find the folder and make sure there is no .nomedia file in that folder.if so, delete it and try open music player back
Shouldn't matter, no. Move it to the folder I said and see what happens. Music player is probably looking for them to be in that folder.
ssss
hey, I had the same issue. the fix is simple, go to apps--> Music player and you'll find you music there. if you open the music player in the tray on the bottom of the tablet you wont find your music.

[Q] Stupid question: Podcasts??

I apologize for the simple question, but the guides do NOT cover it. I can copy music to my "Music" folder and the music appears in the stock Music app (as well as DoubleTwist), for example. But if I copy a podcast file to "Podcasts" directory it does not appear in the default player.
How do i get this to work? The default player has no mechanism for downloading and it seems like the Podcasts directory would be the most logical place! DoubleTwist is great for playback and downloading, but in a perfect world I could use the podcasts in any player just like i can with music. Since the built-in Music app supports avrcp 1.3, I can see playback info on my BT head unit, so I'd love to have that.
Anybody figured this out? it feels like such a stupid question.
one last note: i am NOT stock, I am running Revolution HD 8.0, though this SHOULDN'T matter? Maybe something IS broken there, but in my searches elsewhere I don't see anybody else asking this question.
refresh the media library after you copy music to your device
OK, I finally got the podcasts to show up by creating a sub-directory "Podcasts" in the "Music" directory. I was hoping to get clever and create a symbolic link between the music player source and DoubleTwist (or another podcast app) so the default player would pick it up, but that doesn't seem to be an option on this phone
Thanks!

Looking for A MUSIC Player

Hello to all.
As the title of thread says i am looking for a music player for my kitkat android phone. I would love a few suggestions from you guys. The basic three functions i require are
1) Custom Playlist: I should be able to make playlists.
2) Custom Selection of folders: I do not want it to scan all my device memory and put every audio file in the playlist. I should direct it to the folders i want to be auto scanned and updated each time i add a new song in that folder. Each Playlist will have different folder set in its settings for songs. (Reason: i have different types of songs like sad, party etc in their named folders. So i want to direct Sad playlist to play songs in folder Sad, Party Playlist to play songs from folder Party and so on.
3) This one is not very important but it will be good if it look beautiful and with a lot of functions.
Thank you. Please give some suggestions.

Well if one of the playlists can be password protected then it would be just awesome.
