Ok so I am running CM7 RC1.5.2 and have been super happy but the location using the radio towers does not work I live in Florida and it consistently places me in Egypt. RC1.4 did the same and I have not had a problem with any sense ROMS I have run and I have tried several different radios and am currently running the OTA MR2

This is a known problem and most if not all of them AOSP developers are working on it.

Does this get the actual GPS ability working? I love the Battery life but need mah GPS
No not at all (hint the non located directly before GPS) it simply fixes the false location given by apps the use the radio signal to give a general location

Co-Pilot:

It's a paid app, but very reasonable ($5.00 for USA only maps). Other countries/regions also available.
I'm sure there are others, but this one is my fav.
You could also explore tethering your Tab to your phone if possible. Depending on your phone, WiFi and/or BlueTooth tethering may be a possibility.
I can tether using my DROID2 but I have read that version maybe searching for customers using tethering.

Yea, I have a DX and I've been reading all of the drama regarding that.
If you have not upgraded to Gingerbread yet you should be fine.
I've had some issues getting Tethering to work on my DX (and I am on the Gingerbread leak). I haven't spent a lot of time on it yet, as I was waiting for all the drama to shake out.
The only thing holding me back from a gingerbread rom is that none of them have gps working yet. I was curious how accurately and quickly google maps could pinpoint your position using only the mobile network option checked in settings?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It finds me on the mobile network around 2100 meters. That's not to bad especially if your lost or something. I'm sure we'll have it soon, I saw in another forum that the source code for the sgs2 is out so I'm sure that's a good thing.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Different gps chips...won't help until we get a vibrant gingerbread leak or official release...and yes network location will always work with gingerbread. Fine location will not until gps drivers become available.
Is there an app or setting somewhere that if I were to download an app that requires wifi. to disable this so that I may use my 4g which would probably be quicker anyway? I'm using cm7
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
I've read about this problem a lot, I don't think there is a fix.
It would probably require editing the app itself. That's why some apps that originally only worked on wifi were "patched" by people in the community to remove that block and work over 3g/4g.

Today I was trying to use my the Google Navigation on my Amaze and it worked absolutely horridly. So when I managed to basically get to my destination blind folded, I flashed the agps patch in CWM and it didn't make the gps any better. It doesn't seem to get any fixes on any satellites unless I am on wifi which makes sense because it is using the wifi network to base my location off of. I'm going on a huge trip in less than twelve hours so it would be really useful if my gps would be working functionally. So if anyone knows how I can make it work 10x better, that would be great. Thanks in advance!
Try this app.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result&hl=en
Personally, after I have downloaded some A-GPS data with that app, I never had any problem with GPS after using this app.
And for Google navigation make sure you have download offline-maps from server using lab-feature if you aren't on unlimited data plan. I've had a time Google Navigation didn't work because my data connection was off
Maybe it is a good idea to purchase offline navigation app from android if this is very important trip.
I have attached the GPS testing from my phone.

Which version of G Maps are you using? I know the previous versions were buggy and had to update them. But I'm not too sure is the navigation app needs g Maps for it to run properly.

I'm using bulletproof 1.3.1 (stock kernel) and gps performance is poor for me, too. Accuracy is fine but awful battery drain. I use it so rarely, i haven't even bothered messing with it,
(The benefit of living in Maine: only so many places to go and you re born with the directions to them already. )
My navigation works great on Energy ROM. Used it Saturday.

I'm on enrgy rom too and have no gps issues at all. Just checked and I'm getting a fix on 9 of 13 sats while sitting in my living room.
My t-mobile amaze, with completely stock rom locks onto the gps in seconds. No problem with mine.
Throughout the past few months, I have been unable to have a GPS lock or estimate whenever I'm either inside a building or standing still on broad daylight. The only way to get a fix is if I'm driving. I've had this problem on several different ROMs. I've mainly stuck with AOKP, but have tried different modems with the same result. I've also wiped data/cache and SD card several times but to no avail. Others haven't reported this problem so I know it's specific to my phone. For example, if I use Google Now on JellyBean and search for weather, it defaults to Atlanta if I'm not driving around (I live in Puerto Rico)
Now that Jelly Bean is here with Google Now and other apps are constantly taking advantage of your location, I would love to be able to have my GPS fix or give an estimate of my location whenever I'm inside a building or standing still on the street.
Any suggestions?
I'm having the same problem man I turn my GPS on and it won't pin point my location if im driving and turn GPS on it will start to work within maybe a few minutes or so I'm on stock ics rooted with siyah kernel is there any fix maybe for my stock phone its 4.0.3

Some have suggested before to switch modems. Have you had any luck with any particular one ?

I had trouble with GPS after flashing CM9 RC2. Have you installed GPS Toolbox? It gives you a bit more information to troubleshoot with.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en
I'd see eight satellites but would not get a fix. Eventually I reflashed new nightly *and* modem UCLE5 and trouble disappeared.
Have you tried leaving maps or another app requiring location data on for a few minutes (12 1/2 minutes max)? If you eventually acquire a fix then that would point toward your phone not being able to download GPS Assistance data from cell provider. If the phone cannot get AGPS data from cell provider then it has to recieve GPS almanac from satellites at an ungodly slow rate.

So you copied the gps.conf file to /etc and that was it? No other tweaks? What ROM are you using? I'm testing this On the Jelly Bean CM10 preview build.

That's REALLY weird.
Not locking inside - that's completely expected
Not locking outside - That's not a good sign, but it makes no sense when combined with
Locking in a moving car - My experience is that every GPS I have ever used has significantly more trouble locking when moving then when stationary
Edit: When you say "standing still in the street" - is it a city with tall buildings, or ???

Have you tried standing still in an area where you can lock when driving?
Might be area-specific interference... That happened to lots of people near LightSquared's test networks for example.
