[Q] No camera app in vanilla GB? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just installed JT's Vanilla Gingerbread, and there is no camera app installed. There is an icon on one of the homescreens for the camera, but if I select it, it pops up a message that it cannot be found. Anyone else having this problem?

Yeah, I had the same thing happened. It's just the shortcut. Delete it and create a new shortcut from the camera application that's in the application drawer.

How is the camera? Heard bad things with compared to touch wiz. From what I understand the touch wiz camera requires frameworks that makes it incompatible in the event a person liked it better. This true?
The only thing holding me back from cm7 is fear over the camera and the clock. I'm guessing if the camera is incompatible then the touch wiz clock wouldn't be as well?

It's not bad. There doesn't appear to be an anti-shake setting and you can't tap the screen to change focus but the handful of pictures I've taken so far are fine. This ROM is too sweet to not run it because of the camera, IMO... This is the smoothest my phone has ever been and I can live with the data drop-out issues for now.

What's the difference between touchwiz and a rom that isn't ..

I was wondering what the difference is in a touchwiz and non touchwiz rom is. What does one offer that the other doesn't?

Why does that contain? I can't find anything on what it is. Is it similar to sense or more like entertainment?

User interface. Helps with settings, eases twitter, Facebook and other widgets to be open and recieve live feeds on honeycomb homescreens. Adds a screen capture button which helps with forums. Just research galaxy tab 10.1 touchwiz UI. Really can't miss it.

Can The TW works on my P7510 (Chinese stock)?
Stay away from TouchWiz, is a pile of horse **** bloatware.
TouchWiz is by far the most advanced software you currently can get on a tablet. The user experience it provides is light years ahead of anything else out there, even Honeycomb 3.2.
Not only that but TouchWiz gives you access to specific hardware you cant access without it. The ability to change color temperature of the screen is a HUGE feature you can only have with toucwiz.
Here are just a few of the features you get from TouchWiz that you cant get anywhere else :
1. REAL multitasking just like in Windows. You can have TWO apps open at once on the same screen and not have to switch back and forth. There is nothing like this available in the market or in 3.2. HUGE props to Samsung for doing this.
2. Ability to change color temperature of the screen.
3. One touch wifi file access to tablet from PC <-- AWESOME
4. Sluggish menu scrolling in vanilla Honeycomb are gone! It looks like
Samsung devs used video hardware acceleration for scrolling which creates a smooth experience compared to Vanilla honeycombs laggy jumpy scrolling in may menus.
5. Awesomenew notification/settings popup menu. FAR superior to stock Honeycomb.
6. One touch screen capture button in the task bar takes a snap shot of the screen and automatically saves to a folder.
7. Lots of cool QUALITY widgets not like the junk you find in the market.
8. Motion gestures
9. Superior App Manager/ RAM manager which can run ON TOP of any app you are running.
10. BEST Music app and runs super smooth. Much better than stock H.C. or anything in the market
11. BEST Ebook reader app you can get.
12. Your tablet will run FASTEST with touchwiz. Samsung is using hardware acceleration for menus like Apple. Stock HC uses software rendering which is why its so slow and laggy. You cant get hardware acceleration if you dont have TouchWiz. No the Devs here will not be able to add it as its beyond their capabilities.
The list goes on and on. TouchWiz is simply a superior experience than stock HC. I would even dream of using my tab without it. Your tablet is incomplete and missing features to access hardware if you dont have TouchWiz.
I am really curious about changing the color temperature. How do you do it?

Settings --> Screen --> Mode
Thanks 5th, that is exactly what I was looking for. This is my first tablet, and Im only coming from the HTC evo. And from that I came from the HTC hero. So Im still pretty green to this.
Is it worth swapping the kernel out? I know and Im sure you know as well, doing that on android phones will help out a lot. But what about on these tabs? IS that VooDoo what its made out to be?
touchwiz is pretty cool, but the gmail and calendar sucks big time compared to the original honeycomb version. how the heck can i see week view NORMALLY like honeycomb calendar instead of zooming with pinch and zoom. c'mon!

I respect your choice, related to TouchWiz. I enjoy vanilla builds of Honeycomb and I think TouchWiz removes the Android authenticity. There is a reason why devs like PhantomHacker release their ROM's cleaned from the bloatware Samsung adds. I'm looking forward to install his vanilla 3.2 ROM on my P7510.

[Q] Is there a way to change the camera app located in the lockscreen?

I've recently downloaded camera Zoom FX which is a fantastic alternative for the stock camera. I've set the app as my default camera app and added it to my dock. However, I couldn't find any settings to make the camera app located on the lockscreen (by swyping the lockscreen to the right) substituted by camera zoom FX.
Any suggestion on how to do that?
Thanks in advance!
download Widget Locker
Thanks. So there is no way to define this in the stock screenlock?
Brilliant question. This was the first thing I wanted to know when I saw the camera shortcut on the lock screen...i may just add to the question..is there a way we can add any other shortcut to it? Like message, mail, call log etc...?
Widget Locker allows this but I can't find a way to do it stock.
why would you want to replace it? camera zoom fx doesnt offer video recording right, so the stock camera is handier ir am i missing something here?

Some people don't take video that much. I hardly do. Mostly still photos.
Also, there are other camera apps that do allow for video, so being able to change from the stock camera is a helpful mod.

This is definitely a good question. I'm sure a dev could figure it out.

Anybody figure this out yet on how to change the default camera on the lockscreen without Widget Locker?
Well, FWIW, it is possible. I don't know how but CM7 allows for 4 different shortcuts of your choice on the lock screen. If you can do it on CM7, I imagine it's possible with any rom.

Senseless ROM bugs

Hey guys! I've recently started using Fourth Bar Jellybean (and by far the most impressive desensed ROM yet), however there are a few bugs I've noticed that desensed ROMs all tend to have and I was wondering if there would be any fixes for the following:
Google Play music turns the wallpaper on the lockscreen black and doesn't show any music controls
HTCLinkifyDispatcher.apk tends to screw things up. For instance, if I click a link to YouTube it will take me to the browser page instead of the YouTube app. If you delete or rename HTCLinkifyDispatcher this fixes the issue, however in chat clients such as imo, IM+, or Google Talk, clicking a link will crash the app.
Those are the most prominent bugs that I can think off right off the top of my head. Like I said, Fourth Bar Jellybean did a REALLY fantastic job of desensing the ROM, but a couple of HTC Sense bugs still remain.
Let me know what you guys think - is there a fix for any of this?
Thanks!
If Rom devs changed their base to a telus base the link issue would be fixed all round without the need to modify anything, the Google music part I'm not sure of since I don't use it.

I think the google music doing that has something to do with the theme. It's not playing nice I'm most likely a bug. I remember flashing a theme and some music controls weren't showing up but they were there since I knew where they were I clicked. Are yours still function?

This thing though is that it's not really a theme, I think it's an issue with the lockscreen itself. Come to think of it, it seems like EclipzeRemix got his to work in his Project Butter ROM. Maybe the apk can be extracted from it and reflashed/replaced in Fourth Bar?

It's worth a shot, don't ya think? Better to try and fail that to sit doing nothing until your rom dev fixes the issue, though I do think it may be a system issue, tried updating the app itself?

[Q] does the 4.2 camera app have facial effects/ special backgrounds

i have installed the 4.2 camera app on my galaxy nexus and i cant find the facial effects/ backgrounds like the ics and jelly bean camera apps had? did they remove it completely or just hid it somewhere?
I'd like to know this as well. Are they hidden or simply removed? Anyone know why?
For me, it seems like they removed the effects completely. I use 4.2 on the Nexus 7, which doesn't usually support the stock camera app. But I installed the app from the market (back when i had 4.1 on the tablet), and the 4.2 update changed the camera app to the new interface. Life effects seem to be gone, can't find them anywhere. I don't know why Google removes that stuff just like that, was a really funny feature in my opinion.
Nevertheless, i tried to find a way to get the old app back (my N7 is unrooted) and found this app: "Camera ICS" by Moblynx
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moblynx.cameraics#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLm1vYmx5bnguY2FtZXJhaWNzIl0
I works fine for me, there also is a paid version, but the effects work fine in this one. :good:
Thanks I didn't know that existed. Still don't see why they just wouldn't leave those options in. Also, the background options (where it says lay down the table for a moment) I was never able to get that to work in this or in the official google camera app. Is there some trick I'm not doing?
I think you have to have a clean, single coloured background for it to work. Try a simple white wall or something similar. And when it says "lay down the tablet" of course don't put it down, just make sure you get out of the picture for a moment, then back in. But it doesn't really work very well. Just a little gimmick, the facial effects are much better

de-Sensifying the phone?

So I'm loving this One, but some of the stock apps I'm not liking (primarily MMS, mail, browser, keyboard, launcher)
I've installed Nova, Chrome, Swiftkey, chomp, and gmail, which are doing a great job of replacing and I've nearly got the phone in a good place.
My problem is that the Sense lockscreen still shows the stock apps, including indicators for new text messages i've already read via chomp. Now that I'm using Nova Launcher, I can't figure out how to modify the sense lockscreen to change the apps that are at the base there.
Almost all of this is being done because while I like blinkfeed enough, I already use Flipboard and don't want that as my initial screen and it seems like Sense isn't going to allow us to have a more traditional homescreen with blinkfeed to the left or right. I'm also not a huge fan of swapping between modes of blinkfeed+icons and traditional home screen.
I'm posting this here in T-mo General looking for advice because flashing another ROM isn't an option for me. My understanding is that flashing a ROM will lose the wifi calling capability, and that is really important for me. What would you guys do?
You should only lose wifi calling if you flash a AOSP based ROM. I understand that you want to "de-sense" you're phone so an AOSP ROM would be your best bet.
This phone is brand new so development is still slow right now but I bet you should start seeing some Sense-based ROM's without all the Sense bloat start popping up soon
In regards to your lockscreen issue, have you looked into using a lockscreen replacement like WidgetLocker?
Did you replace the icons in the dock on Rosie (Sense launcher).
I'm still using the Sense launcher and my lockscreen shows what I have on my dock.

Won't you potentially also lose some camera and other specialized functionality relative to the hardware?
That is correct. You will just have stock android camera without Zoe and all that jazz
I usually always go AOSP but I really like the camera features here. Gonna be a tough call

You will lose wifi calling if you flash a non-tmobile rom, like one of the M7 HTC One roms or an AT&T rom.

Is it possible to flash the camera apk? is there a camera apk or is it part of sense itself?
I'm gonna take an educated guess based on my experience with Samsung. Usually custom camera apps are deeply integrated in custom android versions (sense, tw, etc). You can pull the apk and may even get it to install but my guess is that it will FC

If you look in the AT&T sub forum of the One, there is a ahpla of CM10.1 which means that CM10.1 is being worked on right now for the One. I am sure it will work with all HTC Ones once it is done. I would give it a month or two and we should be pretty good off. It is still really early in the game.
