[Q] Random reboot with huanyu's latest kernel? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using huanyu's kernel v1.0.1, Alien#2, Radio 77.30P and is experiencing random reboots, only when the screen is off. I've tried both the uv and sv version, both randomly reboots. Additionally, the setcpu uv setting has been turned off.
This kernel also breaks the widgets when I reboot the phone.
Any of you using this kernel gets the same result as mine?

At first it was fine on my end, and today I am getting some bad reboots. I think it have to do with undervolting. I turned Safe mode on in SetCPU and now it's been fine.

Hope it works. Thanks!

Are u using the stock voltage kernel? Or the undervolt one? If u r using undervolt version, please try the stock voltage kernel. I hope this resolve the random reboot issue.

I've tried both, and both of them reboots.
From kholk's thread I found out maybe it's the incompatibility between radio and kernel that causes reboots. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153003
Will try to flash 01.97.00R Radio and see if it helps.

I've changed to radio 1.97 and my phone still reboots. However Faux's OC kernel didn't make it reboot...

[Q] How to overclock the thunderbolt

Hey guys Im currently running DroidTh3ory SHIFTS3NS3 ROM for HTC Thunderbolt. So my question is how do i overclock my phone i heard people overclocking their phone to 1.4ghz and its running smoothly but im stuck on where to go and how do i do it. So any links showing step by step to overclocking would be helpful
If the ROM includes an overclockable kernel with OC slots then it can be set with SetCPU, terminal, or scripts.

If the ROM doesn't include a kernel with OC slots, you can flash another kernel via recovery.

You should be looking at some sliders. Top one is for max CPU clock, bottom one for min CPU clock. Set the bottom one as low as possible, but not so low that the device won't play audio while the screen is off. Don't check the "apply at boot" until you're sure you're stable or else you'll be reflashing your ROM. You can also change your governor. You're average Tbolt should do 1.4GHz easily, but many will do 1.6GHz solidly as well. As long as you don't check "apply at boot", the system will reboot back to defaults if it becomes unstable. If you've got any questions, feel free to PM me.

[Q] Touchscreen Unresponsive

My SGS II is currently running on:
ROM: CheckROM RevoHD V4
Baseband: I9100XXKI4
Kernel: Dark Knight v2.5.2
Sometimes, the touch screen will no response to any touch. nothing happen no matter how hard i try to press the screen. but the buttons are all working fine.
the only way to get back to normal is i have to switch off the phone by taking out the battery, put it back and restart the phone. and i need to perform this a couple of time before the touch screen get back to normal.
any idea how to rectify this problem?
i already tried a different kernel but the problem still persist.
Sounds like you are having a SOD (Screen of death). Usually happens due to the CPU being overclocked or undervolted.
I would recommend checking with SetCPU or Voltage control apps if you are undervolted.
Another thing worth trying is to create a Nandroid backup of your ROM with CWM then trying to flash a different custom ROM (Hyperdroid, Villain or Foxhound Batista) to see if it persists.
You sometimes don't need to do a battery pull to reboot your phone. If you hold the power key for 10 seconds it will reboot from an SOD
PM me if you need any help
Go back to/reflash stock firmware & see if the problem persists. If it does, then it *might* be an issue with your screen/something else. If not, then it's clearly a rom/kernel issue.
Tq for your suggestion.
Before I flash a different ROM, how to reset the configuration of CPU?

Not sure what you mean by "reset the configuration of CPU" What exactly do you mean by that ?

What I meant was to ensure that the configuration is as per stock ROM.
Btw, I already flashed to the stock ROM, as suggested. Now, just wait and see.
Unfortunately, using the stock ROM, I lost the video feature of Google Talk. :-(

If you're running stock then you'll be unable to overclock/underclock, etc without root, so the CPU will run up to 1200mhz if that's what you mean ?
I've never used Google Talk (was one of the first things I froze when I rooted my phone), so I can't say how/why it doesn't work for you.
Re: whether you can reproduce the problems you were having with screen responsiveness, let us know after a day or so of running stock whether that issue has resolved itself. As mentioned previously, if not, then there's obviously something with your previous rom/kernel causing that. You could then ask the dev/users of either or both the rom or the kernel for advice about maybe fixing that problem when running same.

At first I was thinking of configuring the CPU as per stock ROM without flashing it.
But, on second thought, I think it's better to flash it to the stock ROM.
Unfortunately, I am not able to reproduce the error. So, need to monitor it for a few days.
Will update you on the outcome.
Thanks!

[Q] Siyah kernel profiles?

Im using the latest siyah kernel 7.9 i believe with the latest aokp 4.2.1 rom, and everytime i try to select the performance profile my phone will freeze at some point while booting up. Ive also tried changing to the performance and the extreme performance profiles via Stweaks and when i do my phone freezes immediately afterwards. Ive tried all the usual trouble shooting stuff reinstalled the kernel wipe cache, dalvik etc, same results. Anyone else have this issue? Any advice for a solution would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't tried those profiles, but as they are high performance, perhaps they include over clocking? If so, have you run stable over clocked on that ROM previously? Of not, then that might be the issue. Or maybe your phone just doesn't like the governor/scheduler combo in that profile. I get lockups with Pegasus/sio all the time... never worked on my phone no matter what ROM or kernel.

yea my phones always been stable overclocking up to 1400mhz on every rom i've tried. its once i get to 1500mhz is when my phone starts to freeze which is disappointing cuz my last sghi777 s2 was always stable up to 1600mhz. just interested in trying these profiles, still looking for a solution.

I'm going to start with the obvious, did you follow the instructions to reboot into recovery after flashing the kernel before rebooting into the rom and reset the profiles?? It is known to cause havoc with profiles if you don't reset them prior to the first boot. Secondly, any other performance control apps will interfere with stweaks, make sure you don't have aokp's performance control settings set up for set on boot. I personally had issues running siyah with aokp but others have not, for testing purposes you may try another rom temporarily.

yea i followed the directions of the op exactly, i think ive figured out what my problem is now. the max frequency in the performance profile setting is 1500mhz, and my device isnt stable at 1500mhz. although my device doesnt freeze instantly when set at 1500. I'm thinking that is probably part of the problem.

[Q] x10i Keeps Rebooting.

Hello,
I have flashed a few custom ROMs onto my x10i and each time it reaches the lock screen when it starts up it just seems to go into a reboot loop from kernel splash screen to lock screen again. Is there any fix for this ? I have tried using SEUS and restarting the whole process of flashing a kernel, rooting etc but it doesn't seem to work. it literately only happens when it reaches the lock screen. sometimes it lasts longer than that. Whenever I wipe the system it seems to work fine but as soon as a few things are running it starts to reboot again. The current ROM I'm running is PAC-man, with the kernel supplied along with it.
Could anyone help me ?
Thanks,
mmy4life
I have the same problem
use the phone until the battery become empty charge it in off mode up to 100 enter in xrecovery advanced options wipe battery stats and reboot
maybe you did an error when flashing or it runs wrong kernel. my suggestion : just use another ROM there are many nice ROM you can choose, and dont forget to follow step by step installation guide provide by developers.
Is the rom overclocked as this can can happen on some devices try and set the CPU to 998

That usually happens when the ROM is using overclocked CPU settings or an unstable CPU governor as default but it can also be defaulted inside the kernel. You simply flash another kernel and appropriate ROM.

Then it has to be a hardware problem. Try removing your SD card before booting it up.

I flashed 2.3 and it kept rebooting after a while, so i re flashed 2.1 and it is more stable but reboots if i open a app or anything that uses ram.
btw 1eyedmonster how do you set the CPU to 998?
I am also having ths reboot and crash issue... is there no fix for it? I have read about this reboot error at numerous sites. Must be a bug or summin man... or we dn summin wrong... and if it were hardwars related then to what hardware wd you be referring to? Is it a replaceable part? How easy wd such a task honestly be... i have 2.3.3 with 3.0.0.75 and no matter what it just wont stop dropping itself while i just start to appreciate it all over again... so im sure there have bn plenty issues regards this... so is there an answer?

have you cleared the cache and dalvik in recovery + once it boots you need to let it settle down etc.
should be very stable - hope you got your NVFLASH access?
Are you using Hunds kernel ? If you are then use the kernel installer to change to stock kernel and see if it still does it.
If it stops happening then the Hunds kernel sounds like it is not getting enough voltage for your machine. I'm sure I added a voltage fix into the installer when I made it so you would have to go back to Hunds kernel and select that the same time and test.
If you are already on stock kernel I haven't got a clue

The only way I can get it to even work is to have the hunds kernal either normal or data2sd, with or without the voltage fix, it still freezes for 10 sec and tyhen reboots, why???? does anyone know how to help??

Do a fresh install mate. I have never seen anyone with your problem and it definatley should work more stable with the stock kernel. There is no reason for it not to boot with stock kernel installed.
Do a full wipe using the method described in instructions and then reinstall the whole rom with the stock kernel and no voltage fix.
