Hey guys Im currently running DroidTh3ory SHIFTS3NS3 ROM for HTC Thunderbolt. So my question is how do i overclock my phone i heard people overclocking their phone to 1.4ghz and its running smoothly but im stuck on where to go and how do i do it. So any links showing step by step to overclocking would be helpful
If the ROM includes an overclockable kernel with OC slots then it can be set with SetCPU, terminal, or scripts.

Ok so i flashed the rom i said i flashed and i dont see anything about CPU or tweaking anything, i tried to flash a kernal from the kernal manager in the market but as it was booting up it kept stopping loading stopping loading so i since it was goin pass the loading process i took my battery out went into the recovery and gonna try a different one, any kernal suggestion u think i should flash if you have a direct link would be helpful
Ok I was able to get the setcpu for free thru xda so now from the setcpu idk what im doin, any help

You should be looking at some sliders. Top one is for max CPU clock, bottom one for min CPU clock. Set the bottom one as low as possible, but not so low that the device won't play audio while the screen is off. Don't check the "apply at boot" until you're sure you're stable or else you'll be reflashing your ROM. You can also change your governor. You're average Tbolt should do 1.4GHz easily, but many will do 1.6GHz solidly as well. As long as you don't check "apply at boot", the system will reboot back to defaults if it becomes unstable. I'm using huanyu's kernel v1.0.1, Alien#2, Radio 77.30P and is experiencing random reboots, only when the screen is off. I've tried both the uv and sv version, both randomly reboots. Additionally, the setcpu uv setting has been turned off.
This kernel also breaks the widgets when I reboot the phone.
Any of you using this kernel gets the same result as mine?
At first it was fine on my end, and today I am getting some bad reboots. I think it have to do with undervolting. I turned Safe mode on in SetCPU and now it's been fine.

Are u using the stock voltage kernel? Or the undervolt one? If u r using undervolt version, please try the stock voltage kernel. I hope this resolve the random reboot issue.
I've tried both, and both of them reboots.

Will try to flash 01.97.00R Radio and see if it helps.

I've changed to radio 1.97 and my phone still reboots. However Faux's OC kernel didn't make it reboot...
i m using darkside Rom ,and my phone reboots almost in every hour, i am new to android please solve my problem ,its very annoying,thanx!

1. Did u do a full wipe before installing the new rom?
2. You could try installing faux123 1Ghz kernel LINK use "Enhanced Stock Kernel, Max @ 1.0 GHz". Install the one for GINGERBREAD

1. reboot to CWM
2. Clear cache
3. install zip from SDcard

Faux kernel will prevent boots but will erase every widget at every reboot...
I has the best results with the stock intl kernel (see GingerMod Rom). I don't have reboots anymore...
Sounds like the rom didn't install properly, I'd go through the wipe and factory reset/dalvik once again and reinstall. Just make sure to do a backup just in case it backfires.

That's just not true. I've used both .23 and .24beta kernels and the widget thing rarely happens. It does happen, but not on every reboot.

As has been already mentioned, make sure you do a full and proper wipe of your phone before flashing roms, but another problem could be that you're being too extreme with undervolting. Try reducing your undervolts if you have been undervolting. Or, if you have an extreme overclock kernel, consider lowering clock speeds because each phone is different, and some (even ones of the same type) can't handle as high of clock speeds as others. But, I suspect that your main problem is that you didn't follow the proper steps before flashing.
1. Boot into recovery (hold the volume down button while booting, then press down until you see android recovery, and then press up)
2. Do a factory reset
3. Clear cache partition
4. Clear dalvik cache
5. flash the zip
Note: factory reset will erase all your data, so backup any files you want to keep before doing so.
To flash a new kernel, do what denbeutels said, except you should clear dalvik as well. Android needs to recompile certain things to optimize them for the new kernel, so it's a very important step.

Ok, after running a few days on the new faux 0.2.4 1.45GHz kernel, I've experienced quite a few reboots as well (ok, an order of magnitude more than before). Right now I have gone back to faux 0.2.3 1.3GHz and haven't seen any problems yet. I was mainly getting reboots during undocking (all dock types), but also sometimes during normal use. And I'm talking about 3-5 reboots throughout the day.
Edit: And of course, as soon as I posted this, I got another reboot (this time while using webtop in the lapdock and simply closing a Synaptic window). Next I'll have to start tracking down anything I installed recently that may be doing this.

Go to settings, then Developer Options. Should see a some options and hit the first one. Set maximum frequency to 1.00ghz

Your question very unclear. Do I understand it right that you are trying to install A ROM that supports frequency 1200, failed and want to go back to a frequency 1000 ROM?
Whether I am right or not, I think more inforamtion is neede before anyone can give you good answer.
My understanding is the OP either tried installing a rom with 1.2 ghz, or he tried setting the CPU freq at 1.2 GHz, either way he/she is now stuck in bootloop and is trying to fix it by underclocking it to 1ghz.
Well , only way to recover from bootloop is to restore from recovery, or flash Rom again (no need to wipe cache)
Not sure, but factory reset / wipe data (in recovery) may also be effective, try it if you have not made restore point.

Which Rom are you flashing to? And which Rom are you coming from?
And what is the version of cwm you are using to flash new Rom? Cm10 builds require cwm 6.x.
And you have to clear cache and dalvik cache.

Im using the latest siyah kernel 7.9 i believe with the latest aokp 4.2.1 rom, and everytime i try to select the performance profile my phone will freeze at some point while booting up. Ive also tried changing to the performance and the extreme performance profiles via Stweaks and when i do my phone freezes immediately afterwards. Ive tried all the usual trouble shooting stuff reinstalled the kernel wipe cache, dalvik etc, same results. Anyone else have this issue? Any advice for a solution would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't tried those profiles, but as they are high performance, perhaps they include over clocking? If so, have you run stable over clocked on that ROM previously? Of not, then that might be the issue. Or maybe your phone just doesn't like the governor/scheduler combo in that profile. I get lockups with Pegasus/sio all the time... never worked on my phone no matter what ROM or kernel.

I'm going to start with the obvious, did you follow the instructions to reboot into recovery after flashing the kernel before rebooting into the rom and reset the profiles?? It is known to cause havoc with profiles if you don't reset them prior to the first boot. Secondly, any other performance control apps will interfere with stweaks, make sure you don't have aokp's performance control settings set up for set on boot. I personally had issues running siyah with aokp but others have not, for testing purposes you may try another rom temporarily.

yea i followed the directions of the op exactly, i think ive figured out what my problem is now. the max frequency in the performance profile setting is 1500mhz, and my device isnt stable at 1500mhz. although my device doesnt freeze instantly when set at 1500. I'm thinking that is probably part of the problem.

So like an idiot I used STweaks to OC my Siyah kernel to 1.8Ghz for the pure purpose of seeing what score I got in a benchmark test, a few seconds into the test my kernel crashed and the system rebooted and got stuck in a bootloop. There was no way for me to get out of this not even trying to get into safe mode. The only way I could get round the bootloop was to flash boeffla kernel. I removed Stweaks and Stweaksprofiles and then reflashed Siyah, hoping that would sort it but same bootloop. So reflashed Boeffla and alls good again.
Basically what I would like to know is how to get rid of the changes STweaks made as I would like to use Siyah Kernel again but i don't really want to wipe my phone to do so
siyah folder in the sdcard root
Siyah folder as said, or flash one of the cwm flashable siyah setting zips (themes and apps section)

No need to flash anything, I found the .siyah folder and edited the config file manually. Changed the CPU value back down to 1.4Ghz and all works smoothly again, so just wanted to say thanks for all the help
