Hi i bought atrix today and my question is how to upgrade it from 2.2.2 to gingerbread cos when i try update from settings or pc motorola update it say no updates for your phone... what i should do?
Regards
Update phone in the settings section? Settings/ About phone/ System updates.
I believe you also have to be connected to wifi
Not avaliable for uk orange till november... so what i should do now
either wait till november, or unlock your bootloader and play with custom ROMS.
be very careful unlocking your bootloader, be sure to do research before jumping into anything. it might not be something you want to do.
^^^WHat he said... Keep a eye out for int builds!

Hi
I have an Orange (UK) HTC Hero. Works fine actually. However, i spotted a ROm upgrade dated 2010-02-04 on the HTC website (ROM Version:2.73.61.66 for Orange). Currently I am running version 2.73.61.5.
Do I get any benefit from upgrading to the new ROM version, and if yes, what would the benefit be?
Also, I understood from HTCs website that an upgrade wipes out everything on my phone, including Orange's setup. Does this mean that the phone also becomes sim free?
If I do perform the upgrade, how can I restore Orange's settings? SHould I write them down before I perform the upgrade, or could I go to the Orange shop and ask them to set it up for me?
Any advice would be appreciated
Anyone ???
Bro I M Also facing the same situation .. I Also want to know the Ans. can anyone Helps me ? Should I install New RUU ? Or not ?
I wouldnt update, as this is still Android 1.5. Don't forget, that the offical 2.1 update will be released in june.
Actually, by now Orange UK is the only provioder worldwide that has not rolled out 2.1 for the Hero. So I say screw them, and I went for villainROM 12. Best thing I ever did, except I probably need to update the radio firmware, as now it seems to have degraded reception.
I now got all the goodies one would want on my hero. Now to unlock it! (but I know where to get a code for that, so no worries).
Remain in that version 2.73.61.5. it's very easy to root from there. the latest one .61.66 won't allow you to root.
Hello.
I just bough a T-mobile unlocked Samsung Vibrant and up to now it is working fine. I used the KIES software and saw that there are updates available but I don't know if it is ok to update my phone. Is it still going to work if I install the updates (or it will become locked to T-mobile again)?
I am quite new to this so I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance

you should be fine, but It depends what kies is trying to update?
if your running stock and your just unlocked you should be fine.
but if your running a custom rom then its pointless to update through kies anyways.
Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately I am not sure what I am running. I bought the phone unlocked. When I go to the About screen, it sais Firmware version 2.1-update1, build number 'Eclair'.
If the update is for the 2.2 firmware, will I have a problem?
Is there any info on this forum where it explains things like 'What does a locked phone mean', unlocking and firmware updates?
Thanks again
Hi all
I recently purchased a Motorola Atrix (having previously had a Galaxy S). I have a couple of questions I thought you fine folk may be able to help with:
I bought the phone unlocked, though originally it was on Orange UK. The firmware version is 4.4.20.MB860.Orange.en.GB - Is this the most up to date? Also, will the fact I am not with Orange affect my ability to gain future updates? (I.e. does it validate that you are an Orange customer when it checks for OTA updates?). I would prefer to just get official OTA updates if possible, rather than mess with manually installing firmware.
Many thanks
James
When you say "unlocked", do you mean just sim-unlocked? If so, then there would be no reason for it to not be updated. As far as getting OTA, I don't see why not. If not, Motorola has the MSU that basically does the update automatically through your computer, you just have to make a few clicks.
For your FW version, I don't know. You can probably Google that.

From what I can gather, it is indeed the latest version. Thanks for the response - I shall await the UK Gingerbread release patiently in that case!
I flashed my phone back to stock a while ago not realising i flashed it with tmobile france software then did an OTA upgrade to gingerbread and it stayed as tmobile france, meaning now my phone always thinks im roaming lol
iv found an old tmobile UK sbf file which is the 2.2.2 older software version and im planning to sbf flash it then do another OTA update which will hopefully put me on gingerbread tmobile UK
im just asking to see if this is a a safe thing to do or could i brick my phone by downgrading sbf files etc...? thanks!
NO.
No, nope, nonononononono.
No.
why not? please explain lol i dont want to ruin my phone
LOL no problem. The "One Guaranteed Way in the Whole Wide World" to brick your phone is to SBF flash to an older version than what you're on currently.
Unfortunately I don't have any experience in getting different carrier's firmware; just didn't want to see your phone get screwed in the process.
ah i see thank you, i guess il just leave it and get over the annoying roaming symbol then! haha what would happen if i flashed over it with a UK version of the same software?
I guess my question would be: are you actually being charged for roaming? If so, I might change your title to ask how to get back on UK Tmobile -- someone else might have some better ideas.
nope i dont think i am just get an annoying popup all the time saying im roaming when im not and okay ill try to do that thanks
I was told by Verizon that in general, I can use another carrier's software update to update my phone as long as the software date is not too long after the phone "roll-out" date. Is this generally true ? I want to confirm before I use a USCellular Android 2.3.4 update (Software Number 3.20.573.2) on my Verizon HTC Merge (Android 2.2). (I checked - the software date and phone date are around 2011) [Verizon never supported this phone but it is branded as such] The update requires HTC Sync and to be done via a PC.
(I'm a newbie, so trying to find the simplest solution to update the software without rooting and etc...). Thanks

Whoever told you that from Verizon was an idiot. That is absolutely not how it works, especially with carrier locked devices like that. If there are no official updates available from VZW, then the only way would be via a custom rom. If you try to run that RUU, it will fail before it even starts because it will recognize that the CID (Carrier ID) is different.
Update needed for Verizon HTC Merge ?

Is it safe to use Android 2.2 on the HTC Merge or should it be updated ? If update, some say Google Play Services may be a 'back-end' solution.
Or getting a custom rom is the best way ? If so, where is safest place to get it and what is best way to do this for a newbie ?
Thanks for your help !
