Does anybody know the difference between the two?
Wondering if by switching to CDMA only if I can save some battery.
Using CDMA only would not really help your battery at all. The phone is only CDMA and those settings are most likely borrowed code from a world phone.

In my area there are gsm and cdma carriers ,( I can subscribe on both)
and i know that there are cell phones that can operate two carriers(gsm+cdma) at the same time.
Is that possible for Motorola photon to operate two carriers(gsm+cdma) simultaneously?
Thanx
any reply please...
Not right now. Nobody has figured out how to compile parts of both the unrestricted GSM and 'standard' CDMA radios yet.

Looks like someone maybe close to switching back and forth from within the ROM check this link.
I have the HTC Evo LTE flashed to Boost with a 3G doner phone (TP2). Been working great.
I now want to flash a One SV or a Boost Force (made by ZTE) to have 4G as part of my service as well.
Would this be possible? With regard to flashing LTE from phones, is that plausible in this case? I have CDMA paid and other tools. I want information before I attempt to tackle this project.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Honestly, your treading open water there, (I'm betting) your not gonna find anyone to offer any input simply because very little to few have even attempted yet...I would have already myself, as I work exclusively with flashing to Boost, but unfortunately, Columbus doesn't have LTE yet. I can tell you though, that the second we get it up and running out here I will dive into it and definitely report back here if no one else hasn't yet.
Would love to hear how it went for you if you try it, a nice tutorial would even be nicer . Good luck with it, either way. BTW, I have heard it is definitely plausible.

This is not a CDMA device. I have a Droid X (Verizon). Where is this sim card you speak of? not there.

verizon does have sim cards and if you have an atrix go to hiding window there is a choice for cdma all am asking is if it works if any one has and unlocked gsm and a verizon card could they try it. before i buy a card
inside my house verizon is only service that works decent have to go outside to use att phone. turned atrix into wifi phone for that reason but has bad leg so if verizon will work after changing to cdma would consider it

Answered my own question. IEMI filtering will kick the phone and im not going to hack verizons data base to add my iemi to there database.

i may not have said it, but yes, that was the one piece of info i did not put into my answer that i was aware of.
Atrix 4G is not a CDMA phone, only GSM.
Also, if you select CDMA the app will crash.

did alittle research and atrix 4g radio is capable of CDMA but all CDMA networks do IMEI filtering there is also a block on turning CDMA on it says sim doesnt allow it so i was wondering if a verizon sim would allow it but doesnt matter if the network boots the phone off anyway so either way its a no go unless someone wants to hack data base on magor networks which isnt worth it and im sure verizon wouldn't be very happy with you as a customer if you did that.
To my knowkedge Verizon uses SIM cards for LTE only, it has nothing to do with normal voice/text operation of the phone.

exactly, and this is a 3G/hdsupa or whatever the acronym is phone, not a 4G/LTE device.
Hello everyone.
So I updated to MM today and it's pretty amazing so far. Only one thing I noticed is kinda "missing".
I used to use the GSM (2g) when I'm on WiFi, to save battery of course, then when I'm using the Mobile Data, I switched to WCDMA (3g).
Now after the update, the GSM only option is not even available.
The available options are in attached the screenshot.
Is there anyway to bring back the GSM only option back?
Thanks in advance.

What version did you install? I installed the Generic Philippines from the XperiaBlog.
I installed US version. I don't know how to attach the picture. I would show you the gsm option.
Probably because the ftf you flashed doesn't support GSM Only option
Flash Malaysian FTF. You will get GSM only option along with LTE only and others.
Thank you everyone who took the time to reply! I really appreciate that!
So, yeah. I flashed the Generic LAM ROM and I got my GSM only option back! Thanks!
The thing is, there's another bug in the LAM ROM, which is a persistent "Cell Information" notification and it's annoying as hell. I have to force stop it every time I restart my device.
Is there any ROM that supports the GSM only mode AND doesn't have that annoying Cell Information notification?
Thanks peeps!
I have the Australian generic and that has GSM and no cell information (for me)

From what I understand, he is correct.
I did it hahahahahaaha I win
how did you edit the apn? The phone does LTE so GSM/CDMA is a moot point.
In an area where LTE isn't available...you'll be sol. Good job though.
Thank you and to alter apn bring up hidden menu **** and bam boom bang done...
I haven't experienced any problems out side of LTE
