Asurion Insurance Question... - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Droid Incredible and for the past few months it has had a crack in the screen. However it wasn't that huge of a deal to me and I have yet to send it in for replacement.
My question is: now that there are talks of Verizon getting the Samsung Galaxy S II in the next few months, would I be able to turn my phone in for insurance and then pay a little bit more to get the SGSII or do I have to take the "phone of equal value"?
P.S. I am not trying to scheme anyone just would rather stick with the cracked DInc than pay $50, or whatever the deductible is, for a DInc2.

unfortunately, asurion has a tiering system of what they call a 'matrix', (equivalent/comparable replacement). while i cant give you a 100%, im about 99.98% sure that the SGS2 isnt going to be a matrix for the Dinc... i work for sprint, and have an evo. the evo is coming up on end of life in the next month. they have started offering the nexus s 4g for it, but not the photon, or evo 3d, as they are tiered higher than the evo... sorry...

Tmo will only warranty replace your Vibrant with Cliq2, Defy or a cheap BB!?

I've been having problem with my mic on my Vibrant, so i called Tmobile to see if they would do anything about sending me a replacement Vibrant, I have a 2 year protection that I am paying $7/month. They told me that Vibrant isn't available anymore, neither is SGS 4G and my ONLY 3 options of replacement would be some crappy blackberry, Defy or Cliq 2.... I told the guy those are all down grades from what I have and that I didn't want any of those and he agreed with me...
Basically I got no where, spoke to the manager that told me the same thing, then I spoke with loyalty department (been with T-mobile for like 7 years) and the best they could offer was was $20 off HTC Amaze...
Anyone else think this is ridiculous and/or have any suggestions on what I should do? I don't think it makes sense that they should downgrade me... if anything if they don't have anything as good, then give me something better.
If anyone else ran into this please let me know what you guys did to get a replacement?
I would either call them back and try to get a galaxy s2 or call samsung directly and use their warranty. The tmobile version of the s2 is called the hercules I believe and samsungs direct warranty only lasts a year
Wow that sux

That's crap...let us know how you end up.
I also had a problem with my vibrant with the incoming calls. I called Tmobile to replace my phone with another vibrant under the warranty, instead, they gave me a Htc Sensation .
what?!
Thats ****ed up. I pay the $7 a month too and the first time it was giving me trouble they just sent me a new one and i had to return my defective unit. Thats all. If it ****s up again they better not ask me to downgrade
Try replacing mic I guess

That's exactly what i said! Guy told me to call Monday bc their inventory gets updated then. So I'm going to call them then, but that is still bs, i run 4 businesses, if my customer isn't happy i upgrade them or refund them, not charge them more or downgrade them... I don't understand how that even makes sense. I'm going to try calling them on Monday, but to the those of you guys that are paying for the warranty don't bother, apparently once they run out off the phone you have they might give you a Nokia flip phone if they don't have any more budget Android phones to give out.
I called Samsung but they only have the warranty for 1 year, and you have to send your phone in for 2 Weeks while they work on it. So i guess they want you to use the payphone while you wait..

Wow OP I've also been with tmo for 7years and also paying those ****s the 7 bucks a month too. I don't have any real issues with my vibrant other then well it being a vibrant, I'll be dam if they try to downgrade me to some crap ass phone call those tards back every day tell you get what you want man that sucks. Good luck ill call them and talk **** about me paying 7 bucks to get a downgraded phone tomorrow.

I would actually not mind having a defy, I am into a lot of extreme sports and it would be nice to have a tough smartphone. It would be nice to have a phone that I could keep in my pocket while I am commuting to school on mtb trails instead of in an otterbox in my backpack.
Does anyone know if light bleeding from behind the buttons onto the screen is a warranty issue? It has been happening ever since I got this replacement phone.
The DEFY is just slightly rugged. It's not full on military spec so a case is still recommended. The DEFY is not that bad of a phone though with excellent 3G reception. The CLIQ2 has problems, and a Blackberry.. oh lord. But you do have a Samsung Vibrant - a phone that is over a year old now. What do you expect? Most of the $7.99 is for insurance anyway not the warranty.
First thing I would do is cancel that $7 joke of an insurance policy. They tried that crap on me before with my Behold II and I called corporate and they replaced it with a Vibrant. Then I went online and cancelled $28 worth of insurance (4 phones). If you think about it, total up the insurance money you pay each year and that would be enough to cover at least two GalaxyS 2's ($84x7 years).
Just called them OP. Same story, I'm getting a call back on Wednesday to update my status regarding the Vibrant being in stock. They did however offer me the glaxy S 2 for 50%...$200 for an upgrade! I'm saving that for Nexus Galaxy.
All three of these choices are downgrades. I'm definitely canceling my insurance after this.

That's what I am going for, I'll just try to get them do give me 1/2 off the price of upgrade on Amaze or SGS 2, Ill just sell it and pick up a Nexus. Either they do that or give me something that isn't a downgrade! I'll settle for Sensation.

Well be it 1 year or older this makes no difference, when I got the warranty it was in case I needed to replace my phone it was going to be covered for 2 years with something equally as good, if they would have told me they would instead give me a flip phone I would have taken my chances... Defy is a POS, it has slow CPU, smaller screen, 2GB of memory, thinker, worse battery life... I don't think there is a single benefit to this phone except that it will work if I drop it in the toilet.
the battery life is not worse, it's much better, the CPU is not far off from the Vibrant and as far as I'm concerned stock vs stock the DEFY is a better more consistent performer. I would know, I had both. The GPS worked too. If you've never had one I can't even see how you would run off at the mouth about how much of a POS it is.
The age of the phone DOES matter. The value does not INCREASE on a phone. You can't expect to get a major upgrade just because they don't have any more of your phone. Get real. You don't pay *that* much for the extended warranty, and the warranty does not guarantee anything equal or better replacements. Read the fine print.

A few things don't make sense.
I'm assuming your Vibrant is out of the 1yr manufacturers warranty, and you are reffering to the $7 a month Assurion insurance.
If you are indeed out of your 1 yr warranty then T-Mobile has no obligation to even offer you anything, not even a downgrade.
Now, if you are trying to resolve the issue by using your Asurion insurance then you shouldn't even be dealing with T-Mobile. T-mobile has no clue what Asurians current inventory is. Assurion claims are done completely seperate from T-mobile. Assurion claims can be filed at the following link:

Maybe I'm missing something or not understanding. I think the above info I provided is correct but who knows maybe I'm wrong.

The warranty is actually split in 2 parts, one is the damage/stolen warranty that you would have to go through Assurion, the other is an extended warranty that extends the warranty an additional year past the manufacturers 1 year warranty. The idea is if your phone gets screwed up with the fault that isn't yours, Tmobile will replace it.

Thanks, usefil link. I didn't know you had the option to choose PHP Insurance alone for $4.79. That sounds better than the PHP bundle especially considering T-mobile isn't doing a warranty exchange with a comparable model. What do the terms and conditions say? I would read that in detail, if they have to give you a comparable model then I would fight it.
here is what the fine print says:
3. REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS.
If the identical Covered Product is no longer available, We will replace it with
a product of comparable functionality. In all cases, We will determine product
comparability including functionality at Our sole discretion. Technological
advances and product availability may result in a replacement product with a
lower selling price than the original product.
A replacement product may be either new or refurbished, at Our option. Nonoriginal manufacturer parts may be used in refurbished products.

I want them to tell me how Defy and Galaxy S have the same technological functionality...? besides making phone calls I think these 2 are pretty different...
Yea i just dropped my insurrance.....
My screen is shattered and they offered me the same crap.....ill buy another vibrant off craigslist and then when my contract is up.....ill go to sprint and not waiste my money again on the shotty insurrance

[Q] Worth the upgrade from thunderbolt or wait?

I'm able to upgrade from my Thunderbolt to the Rezound for $99 (I can't seem to stomach the 2-yr contract even at that price!). I like my Thunderbolt but I have the itch to upgrade.... I can probably even sell my Thunderbolt on Ebay and make $100 lol. Anybody coming from a Thunderbolt wishing they stuck with the Thunderbolt and waited for a quad-core?
It's head and shoulders better than the Thunderbolt, but you may as well wait. With only two-year contracts these days it's worth the wait.
I've owned both, and I love my Rezound, but I got it as a replacement. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

It was kind of a mess, and it took a week of ****ing up customer service, executive customer service, and some nasty emails. I don't recommend it.
Did you get your TBolt on a one-year contract? That's probably the problem. They told me they pretty much wouldn't give someone who was about to be off-contract a new phone. They eventually did, but it was awful.

Exactly the problem. I paid extra for a one-year contract so they told me the same thing: We can't change your phone if you are able to upgrade. I am more than happy to go through the process if it means me not having to be in a stupid 2 year contract lol
Here's the best question...what would you be waiting for? All of the announced HTC phones aren't for CDMA carriers. Who knows when the next crop of phones would be hitting and what they would be.

rumored HTC fireball is CDMA and modeled ADR6410 which would be a successor to the Thunderbolt. If it's quad-core and coming in the next 4-6 months it may be the way to go...

I was only able to because a CS agent ****ed up. Or, rather, did their job, and Verizon claimed they ****ed up, and so I appealed to a higher power.
A Verizon CS promised me a Rezound as a replacement, said it was in the mail, blah blah blah. I called a few hours later when I realized I wasn't sure if had included a battery and back in the package. The nice lady I talked to saw the order for the Rezound and no order for a battery and a backplate. So she ordered that and sent it to me.
Two days later I get two packages. One with the Rezound battery backplate and battery, and one with a Thunderbolt. One of those wtf moments. So I called in, asked what happened, and after hours on the phone they finally determined that the original CS agent was not authorized to give me a Rezound, and so the order had been cancelled, and they just sent me another Thunderbolt, all without telling me. All the while they gave me at least three or four different reasons, the first being that they had never ordered me a Rezound in the first place. So I asked the obvious question of, so why did I get a Rezound battery and backplate?
In the end they wouldn't budge. Only a Thunderbolt for me. No Rezound possible, despite them promising one to me.
I was kinda pissed, so I wrote executive CS an email detailing the situation. They called me, sorted the story out, and shipped me a Rezound.
I think the only reason I got a Rezound was because of their enormous series of ****ups. Without that they probably would have given me the same brush off they gave you. Well, they tried to give it to me. I'm not sure you'll have any luck--my situation was pretty particular.
Ironically I have a very similar issue. The customer service rep lied to me and said there is no other 4G HTC that is any better than mine so my option was to downgrade to a 3G HTC or take another Thunderbolt. I said "what about the rezound?". He told me the screen size was bigger on the Rezound so that is not possible. I responded by correcting him about the size. He said, "Ok fine, I will try to ship you the Rezound and you may have it by Tuesday but it will probably get denied. I will call you tomorrow if that happens". Sure enough, I was on the phone with his supervisor the next day because he never called me (shocker). They basically told me to pound sand in nice words. Eh whatever...

That's weird to me. Because if you're able to upgrade then your contract is coming close to being up and you would be free to go to another carrier. A long time ago on Sprint or Cingular my phone broke when my contract was over and they said they didn't want to give me one for free (I had no insurance or anything) but at the same time they were unable to diagnose what the problem was since it couldn't turn on. So I told them if you can't tell me what's wrong with it and you won't replace it I'll just go get a free phone from another carrier. Within 5 minutes they were giving me a phone. They offered me a particular one and I asked about a different one that was the same price and they let me have that. This was in flip phone days, still it was $100 price on phone.

I'm able to cancel in June... Verizon allows you to upgrade 4 months ahead of contract renewal.
It probably depends on your usage habits. My wife has a year left with the TB, but it's a great phone for her. The Rezound screen and camera are leaps and bounds better, but the battery life and overheating issues make me hesitant to say its a substantially better device.
If you are a power user who will really appreciate the screen and speed, upgrade. Otherwise wait for the next batch of phones that we're sure to see late summer or so. May as well stay on the cutting edge if you have the option!

Don't take this as a wiseass commnent or anything but...Doesn't the Rezound have GSM hardware? When (other than the iPhone) has a manufacturer retrofitted a phone to work on Verizon?
From my experience and other's, they will pretty much only bulge ONLY if you are still a year or so ahead from the contract being done. People where able to upgrade from a Droid Charge to other 4G devices, same with the Bionic. Im getting my wife her 3rd Droid Charge replacement, it keeps dropping 4G like there's no tomorrow whereas my Rezound is perfectly fine. One more complaint and they guranteed me a different 4G phone.
From reading a bunch of other similar posts like mine, I think I'm gonna make the jump. @ $99 for such a powerful device, I'd probably be crazy for passing it up when it very recently came out

True... So does that mean that if i make a lost phone claim with assurion (tmobile's insurance company) they will not be able to get me an amaze and therefore would have to pick a new phone of equal value, persay, the Samsung galaxy s2?
I am aware that assurion always send a brand new phone with box and everything when phone is claimed lost, unlike the refurbished ones you sometimes get when you claim your phone damaged
There's another article that prevents htc from selling the HTC one X Due to legal battles with Apple that we're just announced today..

I dont even think assurion sends you a new phone either. They are all like new or refurbished. Now your other question, I would personally assume that you should be able to get the next phone HTC has out, which would be the ONE s, but I doubt they would do that. Honest answer, I would assume if T-Mobile had no phones to send you, or assurion, I would think they would send either HTC radar, or more likely, the my touch 4g slide. Both of which I would not want and are downgrades.

asurion sent me a brand new phone in the box with headphones/charger/cable etc when I made a claim. That was back in november though, I'm sure as stock goes down they send out different stock, ie refurb. or trade ins etc.
and when you make a claim, you still pay a 'deductible' of sorts. With telus I had to pay 150 for the replacement, and considering the markup on phones, they still make money on every claim. Look at a $400 laptop, you think the amaze costs more to build then that? these phones are dirt cheap to make, with huge profit margins.
Have you seen what HTC stock is worth? needless to say, they're doing well
They sent you headphones? That's my biggest gripe with this phone is no headphones
Assurion isn't just TMobile it's also att and they send refurbs. When my g2 went out the only thing they offered was that dumbass sidekick...uh no thanks

When I made a claim for a broken HD2 very close to the release of the HD2 Asurion sent me a brand new unit in the box with everything, as described above. I'm sure in that time period when a phone model is very new they just don't have refubs available yet. After a few weeks they start to build up an inventory.
Rob
I did a claim on my Cliq and got the Sidekick 4G for my daughter. It was brand new even included a new Sim card... however if they did not have the Amaze if I were to put in a claim I would not want a sidekick LOL
I did a claim with assurion when my htc sensation screen broke back in January. They told me the htc sensation was out of stock and they sent me a refurbish htc amaze. It was crap !! Kept power cycling and finally refused to power on yesterday morning. I called and got really upset because the t Mobile rep was speaking to me like I was stupid so I asked for a supervisor and they sent me a new white amaze in the box with everything. Was really surprised that I got it today at noon. I usually don't get angry and I didn't even ask for a new phone.I actually said I want a refurb that actually works.

T-Mobile is out of stock of the Amaze. He didnt get that from T-Mobile themselves. First of all, they dont even sell the White amaze anymore. He got it from Asurion. If I were you, id call back up T-Mobile and make them give you the ONE S and make them pay the difference for them not having any left. I know they offered to do that with me last month when I first got the amaze and wanted to sent it back for a new one due to screen bleed.
Even though it was in the box and everything. I still dont think it was new. Even the refurbs come with the stick on the front of the phone etc etc. They just add the unopened accessories in the amaze box.
Even if its not new, if you cant tell a difference and its perfect, no big deal anyway lol

Cheated by T-Mobile.

Guys and girls today I got cheated by T-Mobile Last week I was riding my motorcycle and my phone fell out of my pocket so I got a warranty replacement phone trough Asurion for 130 bucks. It's not too much for a new device but here comes the messed up part. I get the device and it would constantly drop signal or do random reboots with no connection at all for the next half hour and crap like that. So I went to T-Mobile and told them about my issues and they gave me a new sim card so I was like ok that will fix it but no it kept doing the same stuff. I went to T-Mobile again and they gave me another sim card and told me to contact HTC about a new back cover since it might be the antena causing all the issues. I did that got the new cover and nothing same crap all over again so I got pissed off and called T-Mobile and they agreed to exchange my phone but since the amaze is currently out of stock they offered me 2 choices: HTC sensation and Samsung exhibit 2. I wount even comment on the exhibit since its not even remotely close to any type of phone that came out at the time of the amaze even stationary phones have better statistics than that crap. For the sensation yes ok that's a great phone I had before I paid 280 bucks for my amaze. So I *****ed at them for 30 more mins and the agreed to add the Samsung galaxy s2 ****rocket to the list. Anything else was "too much of an upgrade" to be aledgeble. So I had 0 chance of getting anything good. At the end I agreed to have the galaxy and I feel really cheated. I was told to call the retention center by a friend of mine. Do you guys think that it would have an impact at the situation and what would you do?

If they were kind enough to offer you the galaxy s2 then, consider yourself lucky. This is out of there control and retention usually doesnt make offers to get you a different model that isn't already offer as an exchange. I know because I do rentention, sorry to hear you had that kind of luck with everything, its a tough situation I can't comment on the reason T-Mobile doesn't have the amaze in stock but a lot of people were affected expecting a new amaze or exchange just last week it was instock because I was gonna get one exchanged but they must be really running low.

Don't get me wrong when I start off like this, because I AM here to help and I do completely understand how you feel but, the subject line of this is inappropriate. It's not t mobiles fault
A)there's a shortage of amazes that is completely beyond t mobile's control
B) the invoice cost of the amaze is currently $450, so offering you a phone that still carries a $600 invoice cost (still sucks because its not an amaze, cant blame you for not wanting the S2 but) ain't an unfair exchange
And C) if there's anyone to blame, its presumably apple for the customs holdup of HTC product that recently happened and is almost certainly at least a major contributer in the current Amaze inventory issue.
However... that being said. Since you accepted the order for the galaxy s 2, I'm not certain retention can help you. It did not however effect your contract in any way. I'd say once you actually receive your s2, and if you are in all fact not that happy with it, call them (dial 611 and say "cancel service'' when the automated system asks how it can help) and explain the situation. Tell them you're a diehard HTC fan and hate the S2 and that youre strongly leaning towards an Evo 4gLTE or One X and see what happens. If your contract date is indeed close to coming up, they may still offer you a bargained price on a One S, (assuming amaze inventory is still depleted then, otherwise they might be able to send you another amaze at that point).
That's all i can really say about that. Don't blame you for being upset in the least. It sucks for everyone right now. Wish I had amazes to sell for dirt cheap at my work still but they're all gone =)

Someone would easily trade a galaxy s2 for an amaze so that is always an option.

It's not retarded... just because there are some stores that still have the amaze (which are few and far between if you're in a major city) doesn't mean that someone over the phone in a completely different department that runs off of completely different inventory would magically have access to a retail store's inventory. They could try calling every store in the customer's area to find one. Id say that'd be reasonable and logical given the circumstances... But even then, the retail manager would have to do a $450 override which goes against the store's ability to help other customers with issues actually related to the retail channel. Sucky situation for sure.
No offense intendex, just education is all. There is a lack of inventory on the amaze. The only ones with access are the stores lucky enough to not have sold out their inventory yet.

Calling to complain to put it in "better" words is a great way to get shut down and get crappy asistance with no solutions. The customer service people could easily just shut down and go by policy and op would get no help. Since he got a gs2 then he obviously got someone willing to help but that attitude gets people no help. To address your post while ridiculous as it is, stores carry devices for sale not for exchange and T-Mobile won't take the loss on a new unit when it should be exchanged with a refurb as per the warranty, most stores are short on them as it is, unfortunately T-Mobile can't help the reasons they can't sell the amaze at the moment and customer care has a lot of things at there disposal to try and do for op but the store will make a decision following managers orders so getting one at a store is gonna he more difficult then over the phone.

Last time I had issues with my mt4g (my third one in a year was breaking, so I was calling to get a fourth replacement sent out) I went straight to retention and got a new mt4g sent out as a replacement but the rep was kind of a know-it-all jerk so I called back and somehow got upgraded the amaze for free(I gave the mt4g to my brother, ha). I was just nice to them and told them I wasn't happy with all the exchanges.
I was honestly shocked when they offered the amaze, but I think it was cuz I was extremely polite and kept saying I love TMobile and HTC but I wasn't happy. And prob that I've been with them for almost 15 years...haha. Anyways, I say give it a shot.

I have manners when I speak to customer service. And I think everyone should. I just believe there is something more that a major corporation can do. I don't literally mean go in there guns blazing. Just go with a high concern and tell them you don't want any of those phones offered. You paid for the Amaze. Offered a Warranty. Opted to have Insurance. Pay for services. Why would you have to settle for something you don't want? That's all. Just my opinion.
I had other things on my mind but I edited it and decided not to post it.

I wasn't disrespectful in any way during the call but I was really upset. Given the fact that I spent quite a lot of my personal time dealing with the faulty device they gave me they still made me pay 20$ for them to ship me the galaxy s2. I do understand that I'm talkin to people doing their job on the other end but they have to understand that I'm giving them my hard earned money and when they put me in a position like this ill just find some1 else to give it to. I don't think that ill be renewing my contract with them.

$20 is a lot easier to swallow than the $50 charged by verizon in some cases.
Besides... If you're paying $4.79 a month for insurance only you might as well get the full $7.99 package that gives your (very expensive) smartphone a lifetime warranty and makes shipments for warranty exchanges $5 and delivered over night rather than $20 for 7 business days. That's a mere 10.6 cent difference per day. Even if you had no protection at all that's still only a .26 cent per day difference. Sometimes you get the level of service you're willing to pay for

I wouldn't settle for those terms, none of those phones are comparable replacements, and they aren't limited by just their last invoice value - here is how I get s*%t done.
First, the only phone comparable is the HTC one x. Hardware wise it IS the only comparable phone. You can be nice and respectful while still explaining that this is NOT a fair trade. Just tell them that your insurance was able to provide you with a replacement, even if it is faulty, tmobile should be able to offer you the same phone or something that compares HARDWARE wise. Mention that you still don't like that the HTC one doesn't have a removable battery or external SD, but you'd be willing to take that rather than an amaze if they don't have it. Sound like you are reluctantly willing, not super excited and scamming them.
Here is the secret! The lowest tiers of all forms of customer support simply CANNOT do some things - but their boss can. Or their bosses boss. You aren't trying to get the guy on the bottom in trouble, you are "escalating the issue". One of the people as you go up the ranks will want to help you, especially if you say things like "I have been a customer for xx years", "most of my family is with TMO because I recommended you, so I'd like to know you'll make this right", and "if you were in this position you'd want a GOOD replacement, right? I mean I spent $600 on this phone and they are offering me blah blah.."
You aren't trying to be argumentative, you're trying to get what you deserve. You bought a $600 phone, spent at least $10 per month for insurance since then, and you want a phone at LEAST as good as what you had considering how much you've invested - and you DID bring all your friends and family to TMO, if you switch perhaps they will too? How much will NOT giving you a phone potentially effect their future profits? If your family leaves tmo, their friends leave tmo, THEIR friends.. some one higher on the food chain will see that an extra $100 loss is worth potentially saving years of thousands in profits - their boss will approve. It is what they do. If they fix your problem they know you will tell everyone you know how great tmobile is, how great they treat you as a customer.. if they do it make sure to thank them, tell them you understand the guys below them are just doing their job.. be thankful.
I've destroyed macbooks and gotten replacements with better specs(it took getting escalated to the assistant vice-president of marketing), I've genuinely made a lot of mistakes that are my fault.. but if they want your FUTURE business, they will do you right and overlook things. Someone will, you just have to put in the time/effort - if it is worth it to you.
And if you do settle then what about any accessories that was purchased? Are they willing to compensate you for those? The Amaze hasn't even been out for a year and its not a supported device? You buy a phone expecting to use it for at least a year. It's hasn't even been around that long.

Shouldn't you be dealing with Asurion since they are the ones who did the original warranty replacement and gave you a defective unit? They almost certainly have more refurbs available so they should be able to send you another Amaze. Yes, it will be another refurb, which sucks, but that seems like what you want more than the S2.
Rob
Your insurance should replace the phone BTW.
You had to complain to get a gs2?
They offered it to me yesterday as an exchange upfront.
Spec wise it IS a comparable replacement. They have the same exact insides. Only real difference is the camera on the amaze is a lil better and the screens. Its just not your kinda phone. You want what you want
Be lucky they offered that though. There not going to offer you a ONE S lets say, cuz its brand new.
I do agree though, they should have more amaze's to give out and its BS that they dont, BUT if they only had one phone to offer, that would be the one I would expect because at least it has teh same specs and is not a downgrade, SPEC wise.

[Q] Best method of getting my EVO replaced?

I have an Evo 3D that I was given for Christmas last year (Sprint $50 deal), and it's been a great phone. My first 3D had an overheating problem, and I took it into the store, at which they told me I had to wait for them to ship in a new one since they don't keep them on hand... So after a week of having a half-working phone, I got the new one. The capacitive buttons were inconsistently lit, but that was no big deal to me, and the phone's been pretty good to me for the past 8 months or so...
Anyway, recently my screen has gotten a p-spot (a dot that appears lighter than the rest, especially on white) on the screen, and when tilted to the top or bottom, there are wavy lines on the LCD (again, best shows up on white). I would like to get a new one or maybe an upgrade. I'm still under warranty, and my father purchased insurance on the phone. I only have certain concerns because the charging port on my father's phone broke and he had to get it replaced. Again, none of the local sprint stores in my area (Dallas) have 3VO's in stock (I'm guessing that means both new and refurb from what I've read), and told him they would only either give him an Evo 4g (NOT LTE) or an SII 4g touch, and he STILL had to pay the deductible... Needless to say, he went with the SII.
I don't really want the SII, because that would basically be just giving up the 3D feature for a slightly larger screen, a lower resolution, 1080p recording vs 3D 720p, and a crappier OS (I'm mixed on HTC Sense, but I HATE Touchwiz UI), not worth it in my book (although an LTE or an SIII would, obviously)...
Maybe I should just go through HTC directly..? I wouldn't mind having the ~$300 charged to my CC to be reimbursed while I wait for it to ship if it meant getting an Evo 4g LTE (I've done that with my inspire 4g before).
What's my best plan of attack on this, or should I just give up hope and accept that I will get an SII
TL;DR: I have a 3VO with a minor manufacturing defect. My phone is under warranty and insured. My dad's 3VO broke, he went through insurance and got an SIIE4GT. To me that's a downgrade, do not want. I want a 4g LTE (or SIII, but that's a dream). How should I approach this? Sprint, or HTC, or what?
Try and see if they give you another 3d. It's hit or miss. From what I've read, I doubt they'll give you an upgrade. But you could ask.
Posted with Tapatalk 2
Assuming the 3d you got replaced was a refurb. If that's the case, those only come with 90 day warranties.
So your only options are to pay the deductible and get a replacement through Asurion, or to ask sprint for an early upgrade and pay for a new phone.

I think it was new because I got it from sprint directly and they said it was new since I reported it within the first week... The phone had all the screen film, was unscratched and everything and the box was even sealed with the sticker...

In that case, the phone would carry the full 1 year warranty from the purchase date of the original, meaning you are still in warranty. Dead spots on the screen are hardware failures, so as long as the phone has no physical or water damage, any sprint corporate store should order you a refurb 3vo.
