Should I unlock the bootloader? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on an international backflup. Should I unlock? Mainly is unlocking the atrix worth it now or should I wait? Finally, is unlocking reversible? Will mototola deny warranty due to a locked bootloader?

You need to unlock if you want to mod the phone. If you are fine with stock, there's no reason to unlock.
Unlocking is irreversible and it will void your warranty.
p.s. there have been many threads regarding this.

Sorry, hard too perform a search on a phone.
What I meant was if the phone is faulty but was not caused by unlocking the bootloader, will motorola fix the phone if it is still under warranty?
p.s. dosn't the atrix have a relockable bootloader?

Unlocking the bootloader "cancels" the warranty. This means they won't repair it even if the cause wasn't a bootloader unlock.
Also, there's no way to relock the bootloader at this point.

It allows you to put custom roms and custom kernels. It also voids your warranty.
If you phone is sim/network locked (in service menu it'll say something like: "Bootloader unlock allowed: No"), then you cant unlock bootloader unless you pay someone to unlock it with network unlock codes. Afterwards you can unlock it via offical (SE) or test-point method.
yes. subforums you try to check on development. there are many tutorials to unlock and root

Yes it is worth unlocking the bootloader. With an unlocked bootloader you can do almost anything with your phone.

Well that depends, it might have been worth for you, but for someone who likes stock rom and has no need or will to change it with custom rom (except few tweeks that can be done with root), it's probably best to keep it locked. I look at it as a pretty subjective thing. If losing warranty is not an issue and you want to go that extra mile, sure, unlock it.

Quick bootloader question

Hi all,
I've got myself a carrier branded and locked SK17a (Mini Pro). I want to unlock the bootloader to install a couple of custom roms, but I was wondering if sim unlocking the phone would change the bootloader unlockability to yes.
Thanks in advance,
Dillon
No it'll not change the bootloader status...even after your bootloader is unlocked through test point,it'll never ever change...

Not even by test point?
Then wouldn't it just be more logical to unlock via paid method since it also SIM unlocks? At least, that's what I've read.

Unlock bootloader via paid method - Means you need to pay to unlock your BOOTLOADER ONLY...
And to unlock bootloader that have NO allowed, you will need to do it by Test point (and it's a paid method)
If you want to Sim-unlock,get the code from your sim carrier (of course you need to pay) :fingers-crossed:

[Q] About Unlocked and Roms

Well my case is like this!
I'm looking to buy a motorola photon online,it was on spring and it suposed to be unlocked for every carrier. i'm from mexico, we use telcel.
The motorola photon only comes with GB android, and i've always like to modify my phones with roms, root, etcs.
Before i do any transaction i'd like to know if i can instal ICS roms or any other cooked roms without loosing the unlocked carrier?.
I know that theres a lot of ways on unlocking carriers like imei and other programs, but if i loose it, the unlocking is gonna cost me something?
Unlocking the bootloader is only to install roms? or i can do an unlocking carrier by unlocking the bootloader? it cost me anything?
This method by Lokifish Marz is to unlock bootloader or carrier???

unlocking bootloader and installing a custom rom will not make you lose sim unlock

sim unlocking is usually only possible via SOLD sim unlock codes so yes, if you need to sim unlock you have to pay

unlocking the bootloader is done to be able to flash custom recovery, custom ROMs and custom Kernels, improving the performance and usability of your device

bootloader unlocking and carrier unlocking are not related. bootloader unlocking can be done for free by yourself with the help of the info here in XDA. SIM unlocking requires a code you usually have to buy.

losing 4G shouldn't be of much concern to you. Telcel doesn't use WIMAX 4G so you wouldn't have had any use to it anyway.

if the cell is 2.3.5 already it cannot be unlocked and you CANNOT downgrade it because you risk HARD brick
The sim is only locked in US.
All other sims work.
But stuck on GB. Even if you could flash ICS the photons kernel is so old the video doesn't work well.

Once your phone is sim unlocked it will stay that way and if you perform a bootloader unlock it wont get locked again.
