Hey guys, I'm leaving the country for a bit and want to bring my x10 for the camera / wifi. If I leave my sim card in there I will get charged for roaming.... Just wondering if anyone knows where a guide is to make it so I can use the phone without my sim card in it so I can just use the wifi and camera.
I look around a bit but the ones I found were for different phones =/
Thanks Guys
You can just disable roaming in settings.
Settings »» wireless & network »» mobile network »» then disable data traffic and roaming etc and you should be fine

You can use your phone fine without a SIM card in it aswell. Just take it out and turn on your phone.
But as the above says, you can just disable Data
Just enable airplane mode

This is not always true....AT&T's branded firmware will not let you do ANYTHING with the phone without an active sim card. After powering it on the phone locks up and tells you to insert a working sim card. You can't even get to your home screen or app drawer.

Yup, same thing with an Orange locked X10i.
If the phone has a sim lock, you can't use it without a sim.

However if you have had the phone for six months you can try to ask att for the unlock code. They are supposed to give it to you.

yeah, they are supposed to do lots of things lol...don't forget this is at&t, after all. if your bill is current, youve had the handset for 6 mos and they won't give it to you, call better business and the fcc. i can almost guarantee they will fight you though :-\

There are gimmicks, like the http://www.skygmate.com/18-gmate-plus-white.html Gmate plus, that allow having a second SIM card for your Android or iOS device. They get your second SIM and connect to your main device with Bluetooth; with the appropriate app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simo.simomate you can place and receive calls and SMS messages and also do gprs connections.
My question is, could we do the same with a regular phone instead of a Gmate? I mean, connecting your Android smartphone to a second, Bluetooth-enabled phone, and placing and receiving calls through its SIM card?
I have found nothing like that in Play Store, but I guess it's possible and also useful.

I'm also looking for the same thing from a long time and from time to time I do a search thinking I would find something
R: [request] using a 2nd phone SIM card through Bluetooth
Going bump again. I guess it can be done.

Maybe if I go on bugging people on this, some developer will do the miracle!
I just want to use my Android phone to control by bluetooth another (Android or not) phone, to place and receive calls, using the first phone for loudspeaker and mic. Like it had 2 sim cards. Can it be done?

I m looking for something very similar. I have a OEM sat nav/car phone thats pre bluetooth so has it's own sim slot. Its a pain to keep taking out the sim every time I get in and out the car, so I d like something that I can slot into the carphone's sim card slot that connects via bluetooth fo my phone. It would have to make the carphone think its just a normal sim, when in reality it would actually be remotely accessing my phone's sim card. Its perfectly possible, you d just need a bluetooth dongle, a small chip to convert the info from bluetooth to something the other phone thinks is a sim. Woudlnt have to be a smartphone, could work with any phone with bluetooth to control another phone, no need for apps or anything. trouble is, whilst all the components exist for it to be possible, no one actually comdines them into a product.
I'm searching for this since a long time. Do you find something ?
Should I feel bad about bumping this thread because I'm looking for the same thing?
The "Cant connect to Network" problem has come up again...........on the new phone
Dunno if its just my bad luck or what exactly is going on
Anyone else have this happen to them??
Alls been well since i got the replacement 3 weeks ago and then today it happens again
I get this problem at work but not at home. What's your connection like? Many APNs connected to it? That's what seems to be my problem at work

Everything is fine no matter where i am, just this morning it reverted back to the "emergency calls only", same as what my 1st Galaxy S3 did and when i go to select network it just says cant connect to network!
Sim card works in other phones no problem
Is your SIM card recognized by the phone?
Does it have a SIM Serial Number? (Afaik you can e.g. use Z Device Test to see the SIM S/N)
Sorry are you talking about cellular network or WiFi?

Cellular network, wifi is working fine, even my internet data works when wifi is off!! Its making calls and sending texts
So annoying
Phone is packed up and being sent to Samsung Service Centre 2moro anyway
Maybe it's your sim card, could it be damaged in any way? (cutting it down etc...)
Clean the contacts on the sim

Hello I'm wondering about a data issue I'm giving my mother my gs3 and wanting to know if I can go without data because she will not use it she has parkinsen . Now we use at&t I have data and I'm getting a new phone and I also ordered a sim cutter to make her sim work her sim is a go phone sim the metal area is the same size but one end looks a bit different.
Would unlocking the phone work without the data ?
Will I be able to do this without the data charge for her ?
Any ideas ?
Probably best reporting this to a mod to move to at&t forum.
You can turn data off sure, but can't help much more than that

Need to disable the sim so the i717 no longer acts as a cell phone so I can give it to my daughter (who is 6). Dont need her to start calling and texting just yet :silly: and no longer use the i717 since I have a Nexus 5 now. Just wondering if there was a way of disabling it or the no sim card warning permently.
Remove the SIM card?
Or put in an old non active sim card.
I bet the screen is smashed in lest than a week.
Why do want to keep sim inside? Any specific reason?

Put it on Airplane mode and then you can just turn on the Wifi or bluetooth too if you want.
Also if you reboot with airplane mode on the missing Sim card error won't show up
