Now after we have root for 2.1 most of you will want to have app2sd also. The script posted in x10 mini pro android development forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804574) works ok but it has one limitation. It moves only the /data/app folder to your ext2 partition on the SD card. The /data/dalvik-cache folder remains in the internal memory and this is why you still see your internal memory free space decreasing when installing applications.
I have modified the script so it also moves the dalvik cache to your SD card. I recommend to use at least class 4 SD card for this. I have attached the modified script. Follow the instructions from the original thread but use the files from my attachment. For me it works fine.If you have any problems please share so we can try to fix them together.
And finally using both the original and modified app2sd you CAN normally use your sd card as mass storage device.

new chargemon in the attachment. you can use data.img from the x8 custom rom and resized it. app2sd ready.
I prefer my way because this way i can still use my sd card as mass storage in windows while using the chargemon and data.img it is not possible.

hmm where must I put the app2sd.sh?? in the sdcard or...
/sdcard/app2sd2.1 mod (dalvik-cache to sd)/app2sd.sh?
thx
Hmm, something went wrong...
At night I tried your method. After App2SD setup I got 192mb free (internal memory) instead of 154, as it was before. I installed 3 applications adn the phone showed, that I still have 192mb free. In the morning I installed Skyfire and used iGO Amigo and after that I noticed, that amount of free memory is 166mb.
As I understand, the phone with App2SD mod don't use internal phone memory at all... However, mine phone still prefer internal one.
Edit: If I want to revert changes made by App2SD, I must choose "keep files from sdcard" or "load from backup"?

Same for me
Well in fact using my App2SD solution not the whole /data is moved to the ext2 partition. Only the dalvik-cache and app folders in /data are moved so some applications may still consume space in the internal memory. If you uninstall use the option to use teh fiels from the SD card. About the GPRS problems - i don't see how they can be related with app2sd. I do not see this problem with my phone. Are you trying my method or the new chargemon method?
Hey dudes,
Question: How can I get better performance?
1.) Chargemon mount app2sd http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876868 or
2.) Dalvik cache app2sd http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880387 (this thread)
Now I'm using 1.) what about you?

I don't see how its affecting network connections but it somehow is....

I reflashed my phone using the clean rom this time.Installed xrecovery, jit and finally app2sd and my wifi is working fine. I am really surprised why it can affect the wireless.
Me too as last night before I put xrecovery and jit on I had no problems....
Gonna try again this time app2sd first...

Hey guys, i have partitioned my sdcard ext3 to ext4 then installing megatron rom to enable the darktremor app2sd. I did that, but why still get this "insufficient space storage" and i cant install any apps anymore.
The funny thing is that i check in both settings and app2sd app, my phone memory space available is 41.09mb but says insufficient storage?

in app manager u can move some of them to sd
and some app require a lot of free space so u can install them (specialy some games)
I have already move all my movable apps to my sd. But now if i try to install games from market it says "installation unsuccesful" and in the market it says "insufficient storage". But its funny my phone memory available is 30mb but why it says not enough memory???
So i have to uninstall some apps that saved in phone memory to free some space and install a new apps which i dont want to do. Please help.
Or maybe pls teach me the correct way step by step to partitioned my sd card and to enabled the darktremor apps2sd. I just want to install as many apps i want without worrying about insufficeint space storage. Please... i want to be a happy androidians
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
The partitioning depends on the rom you-re using. But probably you'll need around 512 Mb of ext partition, i recommend ext2 if youre using stock rom, or ext4 if going on Void/Megatron. And 0 swap. That's kinda all you need. Just install a2sd app, or make the a2sd folder in void/settings and reboot (if you're on void).
Take care of what apps you move on the SD, as important and often used apps behave better on the phone memory. So do not move apps with widgets, background running apps.
PS Try a full wipe from recovery and then reinstall Megatron/Void with a2sd
You could also try clearing the browser cache settings>applications>manage applications>all> scroll down to browser an tap clear cache. I have ~7mb browser cache size after about 10 minutes of internet browsing
After installing the script must run commands in Terminal emulator:
su(allow)
a2sd cachesd (phone reboot) - it will transfer the cache to SD
if use a2sd 2.7.5.3 after loading:
su
a2sd datasd (phone reboot) - it will transfer folder "data" to SD
check the status of:
su
a2sd check
Please please me teach me accurately STEP BY STEP.
Im using megatron rom, someone said darktremor app2sd already in the megatron rom but u need to partition thing first, i did that. But maybe i did a mistake? So please teach me again step by step whatever it takes even if i have to format/wipe my data and reinstall megatron rom or whatsoever. Thank you.
Waiting for reply

First i partitioned my sd card, 512mb and 0 thing, then ext2 to ext3 and ext3 to ext4. Then i wipe my data. Then i install the megatron rom then i install mik os kernel. And finally reboot.
Tell me did i do any wrong to enabled the darktremor app2sd? Or maybe i missed something? Please help guys

Ok im still new with Android. I rooted my att aria. this is my rom version below. Ive been reading up a bit on how to use an SD card to install apps to instead of internal memory. I dont want to use it all up i hear that your phone can crash etc.
But not sure if my rom supports Using an external SD instead of internal memory. I have the app: "Rom Manager" which has those options to do with the external.
Just wondering what Roms for the aria support this . Ive seen alot of tutorials and not one of them are the same as the other. so wondering where the best spot for a tutorial would be for the "Aria"
Thanks

That ROM has DT A2SD support, so all that you need to do is create an EXT partition on the SD card using ROM Manager and you should be good to do.
Great thanks. I hear talk that ext 2 is better than 3, an others say it the otherway around... so does it REALLY matter?

ext2 is supposed to be easier on your SD card. ext3 uses journaling, which is said to wear down your sd card faster than normal. Not sure how much faster, or if it even has any affect on todays SD cards.
What the journaling does is it writes to the sd card on the fly so if the phone has an unexpected crash/shutdown, you have a better chance of everything on the ext being saved and less chance of any data loss/corruption. Ext2 doesnt have this protection. When I was running ext2 i never once had any problem with data loss/corruption. Rom Manager now does ext3 by default so I upgraded to ext3. If i could get ext4 support on cm7 I would upgrade to ext4.
Performance wise, there is no difference between ext2 and ext3. Ext4 however supposedly offers a performance increase. Ive not used ext4 on an sd card so I cant speak to that.

maybe its s2e then. I know s2e can mount my ext3 as ext4, but if I actually format to ext4 it wont mount. I thought the problem was with cm7, but I guess it must be s2e just doesnt support it.

I think that's the mount as ext4 option, which mounts the ext3 as ext4 without journaling. I just started using it a couple days ago and I haven't noticed any concernable diffrence though. Maybe ill try formatting to ext4 again and see if s2e takes it now.

Open up the Terminal Emulator program. Grant it root access when the Super User prompt comes up.
At the # prompt, enter:
a2sd status
It will then print out the status of the a2sd application.
Ok i got it working.. but now alot of my apps dont work. and also neither does the Android market...

once i flash it in recovery mod how do ya access the dtapps2sd then?
That was the problem,, all is transfered now.
Thanks a bunch.
If you downloaded with the xda app it will be in tapatalk downloads. If you downloaded through your browser its in the plain download folder.fr008 comes with astro you can use it to move the file to your SD root if you like but you can browse folders while in recovery also

Hi guise,
I just partitioned my SD (~2GB) to have 512MB for A2SD through GParted with the ext4 filesystem (I'm using fla.sh X1 ROM, so I assume it supports ext4, right?).
The trouble is that on ext4 Manager, it says that I indeed do have ~500MB of /system/sd, but in A2SDGUI, it says I only have 24MB of SD-EXT storage.
Are /system/sd and SD-EXT different? If so, how do they differ? I thought they're the same.
Oh, and an additional question: how can I know that DT-A2SD is functioning correctly?
I just got into the flashing-custom-roms bandwagon, so please bear with me if I ask stupid questions. I'll refer to the search button and Google, but when I can't find the answer/solution, I'll ask here if that's fine.
Thanks in advance!
I'd post images, but xda won't let members with a small number of posts link to external sources.

And for the second question? How can I test that the a2sd is working?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
Well check internal storage, it should has (maybe) 130mb free app.
Anyways, titanium backup shows the right information about storage, and it shows how much space is using the sd-ext partition.
Other way is a2sdgui should say "sd are on app", dalvik must be (if you choose it) on sd-ext as well.
Another way is in terminal emulator. First type "su" then enter. then "a2sd repair". Somewhere on the text it shows, it must says "dalvik is on sd" and maybe (dont remember if it does, I dont have my phone right now) something like "app is on sd" (not sure).
Cheers!!

a2sd with partitions and a2sd from the settings app are two totally different things. If you've done a2sd install with the terminal, you're good to go. a2sd from the settings app (Move app to SD Card) puts it in a special folder in your FAT partition. You've done the a2sd but android doesn't know it so you're fine.

Ok, the button that says 'Move to SD card' is android a2sd. Ignore this button. The one that you run from the terminal is a script and goes to the ext4 partition you've already made.
As for the low storage, try wiping /cache from CWM. Tends to sort it.
