[Q] Brand new GTab is on its way... Opinion question... - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My GTab should be here quite soon.
I am an Android noob.. everything I own is mostly Apple (with the exception of my work laptop).
I do plan on installing a ROM right off the bat. I know there's at least 1 ROM that supports Netflix, so that'd probably be the one I lean towards. I basically just want a popular, stable one that has minimal bugs or issues.
Which ROM do you suggest and why?
(PS - I want mine to be like this guy's Tab: Search Youtube for "8gYLLvg0lnM")
I love that live wallpaper of the Penguin on ice and the lock screen. How do I get those or do they come with a specific ROM? If I had that lock screen, wallpaper, and a great ROM, I'll be a happy camper.
Thanks guys!

I am running CM 7.0.3 and it runs Netflix just fine and is a very stable ROM. There are some Honeycomb ROMs out now but I have not played with any of them on the G Tab. I have an ASUS Transformer running Honeycomb and really do love that OS so it may be worth it to try one of the HC ROMs on the G Tablet. Good luck...

I am loving GtabComb. The camera doesn't work and there is no hardware acceleration yet but videos play great with rock player. CM7 was the first ROM I installed, but I had to switch to HoneyComb. I love CM7 on my phone. The problem with CM7 is that it treats the pad like a giant phone instead of a tablet.

I have been running HC Flashback 7.1 for 3 days now. I have tried Century Eyes, Vegan Tab RC1 7.0, and HC Illuminate. All were good roms. Since I don't skype or need the camera at this time, I love Flashback. I have flash working on it using Opera Mobile and all apps I've added so far runs w/o force closes on this app. I love it especially since I am using cpu tuner (free) to overclock it to 1.4ghz. It runs stable and doesn't freeze on me at that speed. I set it to constantly run at 1.4 until battery drains to about 10%. I've benchmarked it using a free app and it outruns the Moto Xoom which has 1G vs 512 on this speedy beast! So I love this rom and it does run stable. Good luck in whatever rom you choose..either way, this GTab rocks!

Tried all the HC ROMs, Fashback 7.1 and Gtabcomb 3.3 runs good, netflix works. Forget the camera. FB bt works ok, Gtabcomb 3.3 bt have some issue. Since I stream movie using BT stereo headphone it is important to me.
I decided to try CM7tab 080811 and found that it does everything smoothly, bt stereo works flawlessly. Camera works, flash works, voip works using bt.
Pick any one and you will truly be enjoying the g-tab.

I'm a bit old school and I like Vegan 5.1.1 with VTL. Working camera (no matter what you do it's a POS camera, tho) and HW acceleration, but it is a bit flakey. Brilliant Corners is similar but newer/better and I'll probably end up on that but I'm in no rush to switch to 1.2.

I really enjoy my GTab since I bought it in October of last year. I have been currently enjoying Flashback 7.1, but my suggestion is to flash until you find something that you enjoy. Heck, try them all. Just remember which bootloader your in.

New G Tablet user.. what is best ROM to use?

Just got my G Tablet... wondering what the best ROM is to install on this thing? seems like there are sooo many different options!!!
Fortunately, you're right, there are tons of options...
Unfortunately, everyone will give you the same answer, "It's up to you."
I know it's a cop out, but it's really true. I suggest that you search for some videos on youtube of the different roms. Reviewers more than likely have used different ones and will give decent reviews, as well as why they stuck with the one they are on, currently.
One MAJOR decision is whether to stay with the 1.1 bootloader, ot update to the 1.2 bootloader. Robeets worked hard at getting most of the 1.1 Roms translated to the 1.2 branch. So, if you prefer TNT lite (1.1), then go for Mountain Laurel (1.2). Vegan 5.1.1 (1.1) flash brilliant corners (1.2).
When I got mine, it came with Tnt lite installed. I didn't care ofr it much, so I flashed Vegan 5.1.1. I used it for about 3 weeks, then did the update procedure and flashed Brilliant Corners, and haven't looked back. It's stable, everything but hardware acceleration works (but that doesn't work on any Rom at this point)
If you want to go with the honecomb development, then you need to be on 1.2 bootloader. Put it this way. There are 2 major "styles" of rom that you will NOT be able ot use on 1.2, they are Vegan Ginger, and CM7. There is one "style" of rom that you can NOT use on 1.1, that being Honeycomb (Bottle of Smoke)
Pretty muc all other popularly used roms can exist on one or the other in their specific arrangements.
When I did the update process, it required me to flash to the stock 4349 update, and to be perfectly honest, it really wasn't that bad. You can apply market fixes to it, to pretty much make it fully functional. It's not a bad starting point if you want ot play around, and get used to the tablet before jumping to a new rom. it will also give you a chance to figure out what you do and don't like about the stock setup, and what you'd be looking for in a custom rom.
That's the most diplomatic I can be, but once again, ultimately, it's all up to you.
Just got my last Thursday. Spent the entire weekend playing around.
Started at VeganGinger but I just found it to be a little unstable but I loved the speed. Also has some video issues and since this was primarily for my kids to watch movies while on the go that was not acceptable.
Went back to VeganTab 5.1.1 and loved it. Extremely stable and everything worked but I really missed GingerBread.
Finally took the plunge to CM7 nightly last night and I can't find any problems so far. Very stable and I love all the tweaks for tablets. Video works great. HD video in youtube starts off a little shaky for the first few seconds but stabilizes after a few seconds. Other movies play great in rockplayer and ASOP video player.
I like to stay a little more on the bleeding edge than leading edge with ROMs but I am just not ready for 1.2/HoneyComb yet. It looks awesome but I think they have a few more bugs to work out before the noobs like me jump on.
Hope this helps.
Depends on what you want to use the tablet for. I am just using mine to play around with - a new toy and a first time android user.
In 2 weeks, I have installed VEGAn-TAB Ginger and then moved on to CM7 to get netflix app working and now on the Honeycomb alpha.
Of these, I liked CM7 as it seemed to be more stable. Not a whole lot wrong with Vegan-tab ginger either. Both will run fine if you want to use it daily. The HC alpha is unstable but fun, and a work in progress.
Cheers to all the devs who work on all these ROMs. Great job
Watch some of the videos in the stickied topic in this general forum. Good idea what you are getting into.
What did you do to go from Vegan Ginger to CM7
Is there a link with a step by step instructions to move from Vegan Ginger to CM7? It is not clear what we have to clear. Do we need to wipe data as well as dalvich and partition?

I was hoping to do something similar.. from Vegan Froyo to CM7 but I've been putting it off
I use Brilliant Corners. Was on Vegan 5.1.1 first then Calkulin/Clemsyn and I'd have to say BC is my favorite out of the bunch. It's on the other forums, PM me if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'll probably be trying Honeycomb out once it hits beta.
sorry for the newbie question.. but what does all this mean.. Honeycomb, Gingerbread, Froyo, etc.?
they are nicknames given to the versions of the Android Operating system. equate them to 3.1, 97, 2000, XP, Vista, or 7 for Windows.
Froyo is version 2.2
Gingerbread is version 2.3
Honeycomb is version 3.0
If you see a tablet, or phone for sale that says it has Android version 2.2, then it's using the "Froyo" version.
Honeycomb is the first, and only (so far) Android operating system specifically designed with Tablet's in mind. All others are phone based.
There is a rumor that Google is designing an Android OS that will be a hybrid phone/tablet OS, it's rumored to be version 2.4.
The ultimate goal for the G-Tablet is to get a stable hardware accelerated honeycomb rom onto it. It would be the natural fit since the G-tab is a tablet, of course.
----Edit----
you may now be asking, why don't all tablets use honeycomb, then.
The answer is, android tablets predate honeycomb. You might notice, if you flash Vegan5.1.1 for instance, that the dock on the right side contains a "phone" button. that's because the Froyo OS was designed for phones, not tablets. you can remove the icon, but it will still maintain scripts for phone function, though it can't actually be used as a phone.
This is where there is actually an advantage for iUsers. iTunes contains sections for iPods, iPhones, and iPads. You can download an app designed for an iPhone, and run it on an iPad, but it will only be seen on a small portion of the screen, but centered. You can resize it, but you'll lose some clarity in the image. However, you'll be unable to download an iPad app for your iPod, becuase it's specifically designed for the iPad.
In the Android market, there aren't any distinctions between 10" tablets, 7"tablets, or phones. you may download an app, thinking you can play it (try spiderman HD for instance) It will install, and work, but the image only takes up a 4" portion of the screen. The buttons are all out of whack, it's not centered, and you can't resize it. It's made for phones, and ONLY phones, but there's no way of knowing until you've tried it. Likewise, the reason we need to do market fixes and tweaks, is because hte market doesn't recognize the G-Tablet as a 10" tablet. So most tegra games will not show on the market. You need to trick the market into thinking that you have something different.
Getting a rom specifically designed for tablets is a step in the right direction for making the G-Tablet perform up to it's potential.

You probably should, but I didn't and have no problems.
where do I find these ROMs and the install instructions for them? I'm thinking I'm going to try CM7 first..
I went from Stock 3588 rom to Vegan 5.1.1 to CM 7.0.3. I really like CM7 it seems much more responsive I was concerned about the lack of hardware video drivers for the Ginger based ROMs but to be honest I have not had a problem and Netflix run very well on CM7 which was a big factor for me switching to CM7 from Vegan. I installed CM7 from CWM did the usual factory reset/delete user data and clear cache and it loaded fine. I am looking forward to a stable HoneyComb ROM
I figure you are asking for our opinion and not the absolute universal truth, so my opinion is that stock derivatives are the best. Only missing the tabs for text selection. Particularly, Calkulin's version is pretty good, and the one further refined by Clemsyn with overclocking which is the most solid performer I came across.
Check in the Dev section for the links.
did the latest CM7 nightly build today.. works good..
I had to manually download and install GAPPS and also do the Flash Player install and the marketplace fix. but now it works..
and I didn't know that the stock video player sucked.. so I had to download MoboPlayer.. seems to work for most download videos online..
when you click a video online like say a .avi or .mpeg it loads right up in MoboPlayer now.. is there a way to make it load from the web broswer into VPlayer or something else? everything goes to MoboPlayer now... and although MoboPlayer seems to play 90% of the videos... there are some that still don't play and only seem to play in VPlayer...
Anyone have any suggestions to this question, now that we're a few months further down the road?? Hopefully some of you have gotten a chance to load many of them and settle on one that you like best. I just got a gTablet (BL1.2), and can't wait to get CWM and a good ROM on this thing! So, at the present time, which are the most stable ROMs out there? I am looking for a Honeycomb based one specifically. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
HC rom is not stable right now, due to the fact that HW acceleration and etc is not supported really well. It really boils down to two choices in HC rom, flashback or Gtabcomb. Flashback is still updated, while developer of gtabcomb has abandoned the rom, thus no more update. However, as so far i know , gtabcomb is more stable than flashback.
HC will have HW acceleration and have 3.2 ported, as talented folks are still porting .36 magical kernel to gtab. It's not yet complete, maybe another month or two?
As for stable roms, go for froyo. Calkulin and Clemsyn ver 6 froyo rom is fast, (1.5Ghz overclock), but it might result to overheat, thus you might want to tweak the clockspeed (doable in setCPU).
For gingerbread, go for vegan tab 7.10. Quite stable . the only deal killer is that pandora is not working well on Vegan.
In the end, it still boils down to choice of what u want
I have settled with the Beast 2.2.1 rom BL 1.2. I have figured that it is the only one that can display HBO go properly. The only down fall is that the front camera doesn't work, but don't use it anyways. Trying different things with it and everything seems to work perfect with it. It is a froyo based rom, but with a little display changes it displays exactly like VeganTab 7.0. I was even able to change the bootloader to the VeganTab Gingerbread.

Cyanogen - alpha v 2

Im looking to see some feedback from regular users who have attempted and are using the second alpha.
How usable is it really?
To be honest, webos, while is wonderful, with the lack of apps its quite not useable. i mean, i enjoy the pad, but it does not pull me to spend a lot of time with it like my smartphone did.
so.. How is android at this develoment stage?
Thanks
a few of the hardware features are better, but i stuck with A1 mainly because of the stability, and most of the problems is has can be corrected yourself using apps and doing some minor tweaks.
i did check it out, but from my own experience, A1 was better.
Currently, I spend more time in webOS because my TP is more of a toy right now. I don't need or use it for work. CM alpha for me has been rather stable, with only a minor WiFi glitch that is solved by turning off the radio, and turning it back on. All my usual apps run fine, with no more instability than on my phone. Hope this helps.
Sent from my very "non-stock" TP.
alpha 2.1 is MORE stable than alpha 1. They fixed some of the sleep issues (but it still has some) but most importantly, alpha 2 charges properly from the touchstone dock. compared to webos, alpha 1 is a tossup. the problem with webos is not the apps. The webos version that came on my touchpad wasterribly buggy alpha level software. The new version that just came out mayhelp that though. Alpha 2 inky opinion has an edge over webos (at least the version i was using) as a few of the most critical bugs are fixed. you WILL have to do some tweaking though to get it working more or less right. If you expect to throw cm7 inane have a perfect experience on first boot, your going to be dissapointed.
I haven't had any 'problems' with A2.1 - sometimes it doesn't want to resume from sleep after a long time but - whatever - it's an alpha build - the speed and usability of it far outweigh any minor problems it may still have
Haven't had to do any tweaking other than personal preferences (I use Launcher Pro instead of ADW) etc.....sync'd Titanium Backup from my phone to Dropbox and then sync'd it to my TouchPad and was able to restore all the apps/games etc from my phone.
Oh and it plays Plants vs Zombies really well too
I use alpha 2.1 as my daily driver for the touchpad. After several days with it, I nook has been given to my wife. I I have had no issues with this build and have had no problems with any apps I have placed on it. I boot into webos seldom as cm7 does everything I want to do. My latest quadrant score was 3561 running at 1.7 GHz with the governor set to performance. I would recommend this alpha to anyone who can find their way around a command line (for instillation). It can only get better from here.

make sure you use alpha 2.1 and not alpha 2a
in my experience it has been running great and has been running on my TP since release.

Do you have any issues rebooting to alpha 2? I have had to restore to alpha 1 twice in order to reboot to cm7 .
Weird thing is since my first time rebooting to web os from cm7, I could not reboot or flash alpha 1 or 2 without a boot loop.
Only thing that has worked is restoring alpha 1 ,which thankfully I had backed up, and then adding alpha 2.
HTC Vision(G2), meXdroidmod Ghost Chili AIO.
Alpha 2.1 has been nothing but stellar for me. For an Alpha build, this is amazing!
Google Docs FCs on me. Oh well! I mainly use my TP for reading books (Kobo reader does an amazing job for .epub files).
Ive not had the sleep of death yet, i just use the wall charger and charges perfectly and my battery is amazing. Nothing to complain about so far.
Alpha 2.1 is superb, a couple of apps force closing but apart from that it is awesome...
It dual boots, so you will still have WebOS, if you dislike Android on your TP - remove it...

I'd say it's very stable as a daily driver. I also get a few force closes here and there but nothing too debilitating.I've themed and downloaded multiple apps and they all breeze through pretty quickly. Emulators, YouTube HQ, Vevo HQ, all work pretty well. Ironically I had never opened my TouchPad until yesterday but the ten minutes I had to use it I hated WebOS. Seems ok but stuck and I hate the little dots when I press. Only thing I couldn't get to work was a 720p MKV on MVideoPlayer but I assume some sort of graphics drivers have yet to be ironed out and I can live without. WiFi works great and I was surprised that even the camera worked for Skype, etc. At $99 this is definitely the deal of the year for me. giving my Nook Color to my daughter.
Try mobo video player from the market. I have had very good results with various formats.BTW, the little dots on the screen in webos can be turned off in advanced settings.
Overall, cm7 a2.1 is stable and very fast. In answer to the question above on rebooting, I have not tried alpha 2. With alpha 2.1, I have never had any trouble switching between webos and cm7. Just remember to set the os you want to boot in the moboot settings when you first start up or boot and hold the volume up key to boot into webos.

Just loaded it last night finally after fighting with Win7 and drivers to get it installed, but so far its great. I am having a charging issue though, so still trying to figure that one out. The only app so far that hasn't worked is WeatherBug which I really miss, but I can live without if needed.
Can anyone tell me if the TP on CM7A2 can handle all the games on the android market? For example games from glusoft like NovaHD2.
Can it play hd videos using flash through the browser without a lot of lag(icefilms and such sites)
Im mostly going to be using it for gaming and video streaming
any help is greatly appreciated thanks.
most of those games require chainfire3D+plugins to run because they arent compatible with the stock drivers
id post the guide thread thats in rootz wiki but apparently its not allowed, but its easy enough to find, its on the 3rd or 4th page of the TP threads, called "Chainfire3D guide" or something like that

Stable Rom for tp

Can anyone recomend stable Rom for tp which is pretty stable and has everything working (gapps , WiFi)...

As Leo said there are no stable roms out, currently there are only 2 roms as it stands, Cyanogen's CM7 who's running Alpha 3 and XRON's CM7 build.
Personally I've been running CM7 Alpha 3 with no huge issues. The screen will freeze here and there, but a reboot fixes it with no problem, everything seems to work, gapps, wifi, my apps are smooth as butter and my movies and music sound amazing. If your looking for something stable stick with WebOS until Cyanogen puts out a stable rom, perhaps it'll include an easy install, as the current install is a bit tricky and even the 'detailed' tutorial posts on installation leave some parts out.
there is that other "no credit" ROM in the general forum (where this thread should belong) and actually that's working better for me than alpha 3 and xron
although that said it is a bit difficult at 1st cuz it's in chinese and you have to reset it to english....etc etc...then the keyboard....then a reboot

you also excluded MIUI on purpose?
As XRON is build from CM7, and so the rest are I believe.. there is by means only 1 ROM with different mods around.. well.. they're all based on CM7..that's what I'm trying to say.. not that they have the same flaws and equal each other.. but the base is the same?

To answer op, CM7 for the Touchpad is actually pretty stable. I'm running 3.5 Alpha from the CM team and it is smooth as butter. Unlike webOS for the TP, I can even use my blutooth keyboard + mouse on Android.
To whoever said it was difficult, I gotta say that's bs. It's definitely no more difficult than installing Preware on your TP, and it's worth it for added functionality. The most annoying problem was how long downloading everything took. Having all the apps Android has alone makes it worth installing.
I ran the N64 emulator on Android and it ran perfectly. Haven't tested other games yet, but I don't play many games anyway. Is it as smooth as my SGS II I777? Nah. But it IS smoother than many other Android tablets and phones that are dualcore.
Finally, a heads up for the only program I saw stutter: Netflix doesn't play as smoothly as I'd like, and but it plays good enough to not ragequit. I'm not sure if all video playback is like that, but again, it's not so bad that you couldn't watch your videos - just don't expect them to play as smoothly as a native android phone or tablet. The next thing that might bother you on 3.5 Alpha is the lack of useful headphone jack. When you plug your headphones in, the audio still comes out the speaker, but honestly, I don't see myself or anyone reasonably using their TP as a media player while in a gym or other public settings.

[ROM - 1.2] BETA ICS 4.0.X - Team DRH (Update 04/01/12)
This is the only ICS rom for the Gtab that I know about. Been running it since launch and its seems to be doing fine. There are little quirks here and there, mostly sound dropping out, and there is a small list of stuff not working currently, but I have been very pleased to use it as a daily driver. Hell man a awesome rom with HW accelerators, you have to try youtube on this just to see what I mean. Thats worth rebooting every now and then to get sound with it.
one thing I WISH I could get is when I stream video clips through various online pages.. right now I am using RockPlayer lite to open the video clips... but there is no ability to automatically REPEAT the clip once it is done playing.
Is this something ICS fixes?
I decided not to wait for HDMI and took the plunge this morning. Easy install with just one or two scary moments (due to my lack of patience). Now I'm watching Champions League soccer from foxsoccer.tv. Best handling of streaming Flash video I've seen yet. Not a single pause or lockup in more than an hour. And my wireless USB kb/touchpad combo works and looks great (I'll take an arrow pointer over that faint "x" any day). Congratulations to Team DRH. Any guess as to when I can hook my GTab up to the big screen?

I loaded the latest beta on and although it looks great and I really do like it, my gtab is now a dog when it comes to doing anything...very laggy, widgets take forever to load up when going back to home screen. Over all just very slooooow. For a dula core tab with a not so very high screen resolution it should be a lot faster. I am hoping for more speed improvements, or did I do something wrong when I went through the install process? I dunno, but keep up the good work because it makes me want to use the gtab again (if it was not so laggy).
Did you let it "bake" after install? Many folks have had good results with letting the tablet sit undisturbed for 30 minutes or more after flashing, before connecting wifi and registering with Google. I let mine "bake"over night, and it has seemed to prevent the lag.
Good Luck.

I ran it for a week, loved the interface and all the customization options, and HBO GO worked flawlessly.
Just couldn't get past all the freezing and stuttering, some of my games wouldn't work and my avi files wouldn't play off the sd card with the default player and I couldn't find a place to set preferences to use MX player, wouldn't even prompt me as to which player to use, so I went back to C&C 1.2 final.
Who knows, might be damaged internal flash memory or just felt slow after running overclocked at 1.5ghz for so long.
But still it's shaping up pretty darn sexy and heads and shoulders above most of the Honeycomb roms I tried.
Hats off to DRH.

Poll: What Rom are you Running on your Nook Tablet?

Just curious as to what roms people are running on their Nook Tablets. I think I've covered all the different options here. Make sure to vote in the actual poll at the top of the thread and not just post what you're running!
If you vote dual boot or other, please post details!
Thanks and hopefully we get some good results here.
interesting question
I'm eager to see the results.

I really want to use CM7 but my primary use is reading B&N and Kindle content. Until there is a way to read books and magazine subs in CM7 that utilizes the B&N reader I'm locking in to a rooted stock version. The market version of the B&N reader doesn't cut it.

I responded dual boot but that isn't exactly correct. I started with CM7 from SD Card which I still use occasionally but primarily I use stock 1.4.2 rooted (with AW's 4.6) and I am eagerly awaiting CM9 - likely the SD Card version because of minimal risk....
Rooted 1.4.0. With B&N apps. I read mostly with the Kindle app, so I think MIUI is in the near future.

Rooted "9.9.9.9" (1.4.0) with Go Launcher, Google apps, and HomeCatcher running.
If it can do everything, why change it?
(Until CM9 that is).

Make sure to vote on the poll guys and not just post! Pretty interesting distribution so far.
I'm running cm7 until the new kernel is up and running, then I'm switching to cm9, I had it on my nook for a while, but went back to cm7 for the stability. CM9 rocks and i can't wait to put it back on.

I'm surprised that more people aren't running Cm9. it must be just me in that once I tried out ICS j couldn't stand the non-tablet-optimized gingerbread anymore. Sure its stable but I just can't stand the horrible tablet widget support, the ugly-ish UI elements and the older features without Holo themes. I guess I'm a really picky user, but to me Cm9 even in its current state is pretty much perfect. Also a rip for anyone who is running Cm9, if you set the processor to run at a consistent 1Ghz then the whole OS runs SO much smoother. Also I've actually gained battery life since switching to the faster clock speed. Been using it like this for about 3 weeks and its much much improved.

I'm willing to bet a lot of the people saying they use CM7 are using bootable SDcard version. This is perceived as a "safe" way as you are not modifying the internal memory and doing so seems to scare people (despite the fact that this thing is pretty difficult to brick).
Also, IIRC Netflix isn't working on CM9 (I cancelled my Netflix last year when they went pants on head retarded so I can't test). Netflix is a pretty popular service though so I'm sure a lot of people want to retain this functionality.
Edit: I'm sure once CM9 is more "stable" and there is an sdcard version people will switch to it.
Netflix works to the point I can hear the show but not see it for me on cm9. I'm fairly sure that devs will solve the issue when ducati is fixed.

I did try out the sdcard version of cm7 at first, to take a test run, but then i switched to the emmc version and have no complaints. Alot of people are worried about voiding their warranty, but i got over that quickly. I even brought my nook into bn that i used to work at the other day to replace my broken charger and the manager saw my nook and thought it was really cool and now he wants to root his too.

To add to this a bit, I think people are simply not aware of how relatively easy it is to restore the nook tablet to stock conditions.

Yeah, I've never used an SD booting method, took the plunge early with the Cm7 that was only available for internal. Was sick of the stock OS and I wanted ICS. I tried for about 2 months straight to find a theme/launcher/Widgets/app configuration that suited me. But I just couldn't. Now I'm on Cm9 and completely content. I'm so used to using internal that being afraid of it seems weird to me.

I've never booted into the stock OS :smug:
CWM sdcard, booted into CWM, mounted to move CM7 zip over and then flashed. About a week or two later I flashed CM9 and I'm happy with it. I use my Xoom for most video watching/graphic intensive games but the Nook is a great alternative when I want to be a bit more mobile and read books/comic books (xoom is **** in portrait mode).
Having ICS on 3 out of 4 devices is nice (the 4th is a bit of a relic and doesn't have the hardware to properly support ICS).
I'm running cm7 right now, mostly reading , but occasionally watching an MLB game streaming on the Tablet. I try out every new version of the ICS builds, but end up back with cm7 after a few days. The DEV's are doing a great job, and this is a fine Tablet.
CM7
I guess I'll start with a little background.
I started on Android with a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (I know, awful choice) coming from a Nokia 5800 which was, at the time, a very good phone. After the fiasco with x10, I got an LG Optimus One, which worked fine for me, but it's limited internal storage made me reconsider my decision. By then, I had already bought the Nook Tablet, which I rooted hours after I got it, then had the (limited) Android experience with homecatcher and go launcher and stuff. I finally was forced to buy another phone, I got mugged, so I bought the Motorola Defy+.
I was searching every forum for a stable-ish CM9 for the Nook and I finally decided to go for CM7 which is a lot more stable, but I was worried about bricking the Nook or doing something to it that would make me unable to sell it at some point. I found a way to boot from SD and then I finally leaped. CM7 it was and WOW has it blown my mind. I really like everything about CM and now I'm just waiting for CM9 to get out of alpha.
After this experience, I had to go for CM9 on my phone so, after a lot of trouble rooting it (because of a new BL version) I finally could and now I'm as happy as I could be with my Defy+, it's amazing! So, that's the story, maybe a little too long for... what was the question? xD
