I'm curious, is there a way to make the notification bar black instead of the default blue, without custom ROMs (which don't exist yet)? I'm running the pre-rooted Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Edit: I don't mind editing whichever system file it is in to change the color, I'd just need some pointers as to where it is and how to go about doing it.
Holy crap did all those custom roms in the android development subforum disappear? I think one of the devs over there is specifically making a black bar theme for his rom

They are there, but none are for Gingerbread yet (There is one for GB, but I think the dev said something about he hasn't changed in graphical components yet). I'm not your average unintelligent impulsive user, fyi
Edit: Gah, I found one, (funkenblack) guess I derped and looked over it
Eclipse is black, someone posted screenshots on one of the pages somewhere between all the 'do I need to be rooted to use this' posts

/clap, you got my point! Edits are useful.
Check out the UOT Kitchen "Google it" then watch the YouTube video tutorial 1st & then custom your own status bar, pop ups, glows, battery icons, blu-tooth icons, wi-fi icons & more!
Hope this helps

I'd love just a slightly upgraded status bar done in black with black and white icons. Don't wanna do a full theme upgrade or ROM since I like my current layout.

Black Notification Bar
I have successfully changed the status bar of my Droid x2 to black. I will be attempting to post a guide on this as soon as the site allows me to.

does anyone know a way to make the Droid 2 notification bar black?
I'm running the stock rom and i don't want to flash any other one.
so can anyone help me?
Just use any theme you see here with a black notification bar... or do a search for black notification bar.... searching is key

I found a theme.....but do all notification bar themes work on any phone?
Crap didn't mean to thank you for that post.
All themes under droid 2 themes and apps should work as long as they are made for your rom
Do you need to be deodexed to apply themes like this?(excluding metamorph and ninjamorph)
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
I don't think you necessarily have to be, but it is recommended.
Completely wrong
You need to be deodexed or flashing themes will FAIL.
I would just recommend using fission and then flashing a theme over fission. Fission has tons of features and themes and you'll like your phone much better after that. Any custom rom is deodexed though so it should work with any rom.

I said what I said because I had read that there were some deodexed themes. Not sure how true that is though, as being that I've never actually tried looking for any.
thanks for the tip.
i just flashed Fission with the black theme, works fine and is amazing
thx again
I'm not sure what deodexed means. Does this mean I can't change the notification bar theme on stock rom?

U have to run a custom rom to change the color to black for example: liberty 2.0.1

If you're running the D2's stock ROM, they your most likely ODEXED. As they said before, install any custom ROM and you'll then be DEODEXED. Hope this helps...

I have been wondering this same thing, and after some research and googling I found a very simple solution. Locate my post titled "Theme Kitchen" and go to the link provided. It is a theme kitchen, it has instructions included on how to do everything.

4 screenshots. All I am missing it the battery icons and a few random images here and there on the menus.
Looking for opinions or suggestions now that you can clearly see the color scheme and what the system text will look like.

Definitely going to use this! How long does it normally take to build a theme? In the terms of hours.
It really depends on how much stuff you theme and how complicated you get with your image editing. If you go right at it and do nothing else you might get it done in one day. Probably not though.

I am trying to wrap this up but.. I just keep adding to it. I am going to be including a lot more apps than I ever have. Think I am going to try my hand at making a Go Launcher theme too. If not, I'll just add a bunch of themed icons into the correct folder so you can change them easily.
Yeah probably the latter, it takes less time..lol
its a modded version of touchwiz 4.5 with a whole bunch of tweaks the problem with it is that the page indicator is in the middle of the screen instead of at the bottom wondering if any could get this working?
heres the link

This already works, and the page indicator is supposed to be in the middle. I used it for a while, but not being able to use custom icons got to me..
But its not aligned correctly for the bigger aspect ratio.

Just Flash in recovery over eclipse 0.7
Warning, If you made any changes to SystemUI.apk this will change them back to stock. its best to flash this over stock 0.7 and then make changes to SystemUI.apk afterwards.
Credit and thanks to nitro, naven, dragonzkiller, xkape, mattfox, gaad0701 for 9.pngs and hedwig34 for the hex values.
Change log 2.0
Matched colors and changed icons for Cyan
Added Green and Red
lol dude your on fire!! Thank you for this!
EDIT: Works fine but the colors are off. The status bar (wifi and cell bars) are more blue and the toggles are more green..

It works except it gives you back the stock signal bars and 3G signal icon. Also the color is off as well I think. Look forward to future updates! Thanks!

I had a modified cyan version running on eclipse 0.6 and tried it on 0.7 You can find that version in navenedrob's stock pulldown toggle thread. I had some help from mattfox over there. Anyway here's the version I'm using on 0.7 now. This one has mattfox's black toggles with some cyan added and the 0.7 default icons added in. I personally like the wifi icons in amf118's zip better. I'm keeping amf118's stock zip in case I mess things up too bad.
Hope this helps somebody.

Not trying to hijack the thread. What is the hexcode for the shade of cyan nitro uses? Thanks!

I just took a look at some of the pngs in the eclipse .7 SystemUI.apk. I see four shades of cyan in there. Here are the hex values of those.
#329196
#76c5ca
#3fb5bc
#7ee2e7
I used the color picker tool in gimp to select the color. Then if you click on that color on the toolbar it brings up a custom color box and displays the hex value.
i remade the cyan toggles and made a red and green one too. Im Posting it shortly
Hey themers:
I'm just getting acquainted with making small modifications to the system and am currently working from a stock 4.0.4 LPL based ROM. I would like to implement a 50% translucent effect on the TW status bar.
I've decompiled SystemUI.apk many different ways - as a non-system app, an app w/ dependencies (both framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk), I've recompiled without any issues at all and immediately de-compiled to make sure my changes "stick", and they do. I then throw them into a flashable zip, wipe cache/dalvik, flash the zip and fix permissions, no go.
I'm following a guide that was originally posted in the GS2 forum that instructs us to do the following:
1) SystemUI StatusBar.smali - locate the "...Landroid/view/WindowManager$LayoutParams;-><init>(IIIII)V" statement and change the const/v16 above it from "const/16 v16, 0x4" to "const/16 v16, -0x3".
2) Go to res > values > drawables.xml and edit "status_bar_background" hex to #7f000000 for 50% transparency.
This didn't work on its own, so on top of that I also tried implementing the same sort of change mentioned in #1 above on both the PhoneStatusBar and TabletStatusBar.smali files. Still no go. The system boots no problem, but just no change in the visual appearance of the status bar.
Does anyone have any ideas outside of this on what smali file or statement in the above files might control this feature? I'm still digging but didn't know if others had attempted this. Thanks to any and all who are willing to help. I don't need anyone to look at code for me, just a gentle shove in the right direction would be fantastic!
+1 for this.
I'd love to see this work.

Does tw use a standard grey block to extend the background for the status bar? It sounds like it would and if that is do you could try adding that grey colour to an alpha channel on the image.

I'll have a look this week!
You need to modify the "tw_" variants of the status bar definitions to see anything happen, TouchWiz UI does not use the regular assets/definitions.

No problem, I spent most of last night working out how to move the system bar from the bottom of the screen to the top using a decompiled SystemUI from the TouchWiz rom for the Galaxy Tab. You might find that even though you make the bar transparent that the area behind it is black anyway (it is for me at least using the official 4.0.4 rom) due to it assuming that the system bar is being rendered there. I'm yet to figure out how to manipulate the rest of the WindowManager environment to fix the issue.
