So I have been looking for Modern Combat 3 and many other games and simply can't find them in the Android market. I am assuming this is because they are not yet compatible with the Razr? If this is the case how long does it generally take for games to be compatible because it seems most of the EA and Final Fantasy/ premium games dont show up in the mark?
Also it seems when unplugging my phone it goes instantly from 100% to 99% and I was wondering if others have noticed the same? I guess it bothers me more than it should though. Thanks in advance!

Game thing is stupid, give it time.
And yes, dropping to 99 right away is normal.

The lack of games is due to no dev support from my understanding, and the fact that google has to review the motoblur-esque theme that it's running (or something along those lines). It's really disheartening to me though, because games are a lot of the reason I got the device. I know most of the Gameloft games won't work...
The last 1% might not be charged for several hours, even after the phone says fully charged.
Pretty common with Li-po hybrids. Leave connected the entire night and it wil probably be 100% a few minutes at least. =)
If you have other battery problems, just let the phone die completely from a drained battery and charge 100% without booting the OS. Supposed to help, since nothing else is using your charger amps.
Hey!
I know that it's never a good idea to leave full or empty batteries just stay without use for too long. I don't use TF201 every day and I have it shut down when I don't use it, I am wondering how the battery should be managed and if any of you have any experiences with maintaining your previous devices, like TF101 or others, in similar conditions.
I charge the device after use and then it stays that way a day or two without use due to me not having lectures or enough time off work to play with it. When I do play with it, I don't use more than 20% of battery life and then I dock it with keyboard again (which charges it again even if it is turned off, which is really nice).
Are there any bad side effects of having the device powered off and not used for a day or two? Or letting the keyboard charge the device while it is powered off? Or leaving it in charged state for a few days?
Since I cannot change the battery on TF201, I am super OCD about the battery situation to make sure it works properly throughout the ~2 years I'll be using it.
Thanks!
I let it drain completely then recharge it. I don't power it off, just let 'er sleep in between work, driving, eating, etc.
Moderate usage will give me a couple days worth out of it. Charge during sleepy time, wake up, disconnect, repeat.
I found this article very interesting on batteries. Debunked alot of myths surrounding the type of battery we have.

Really good article, thanks!
Problem is that TF201 is a special puppy, since its dock recharges the tablet even when tablet is shut off. It's not recomended to keep the battery 'full' nor 'empty' and problem with TF201 is that it keeps tablet full or drains the dock while keeping tablet full, even if tablet is shut down.
I am just wondering if this behavior is bad for battery life in the long run if I don't use it for a few days (I certainly won't keep it 'on' for days and not use it, this will certainly make it go through more recharge cycles in the long run).
That article is good for managing a single-battery device, but since tablet with dock takes over a lot of charge-or-not decisions, it's a little different.
It's basically question about which is worse, going through definite amount of recharge cycles quicker because it is on and needs to be charged every now and then or letting it shut down and used when needed like a laptop.
Maybe I'm thinking too much and it doesn't really matter, but it just made me curious since I never had TF101, so I can't really rely on that experience.
We can buy the TF201 battery, can't we?
If yes, I don't think you should worry much.
Within a year or two, the battery should be still in perfect or near perfect condition.
If not, then buy a new battery.
By that time frame, most of us would have been buy a new tablet anyway
Make sense? no?

TF201 battery is not user-replaceable. It needs to be done by ASUS or you're breaking warranty. I don't even think ASUS will sell these batteries.

Ok, thanks for the info, I did not know that.
But still, if I have a tablet, I won't keep it for more than 2 years most probably

Yeah, possible. I'll shake that OCD'ness off me then I suppose. I've just always had user-replaceable battery Android devices simply because I don't pay attention to how badly I mistreat the battery, I can always replace it. But with TF201 I have to pay some attention
Is there a way to signal the keyboard dock to start charging only when the tablet has 20% charge left?
I leave the dock connected all the time and the tablet is constantly being charged by the dock.
the lithium ion battery is fine you can let it sit for months and months, you can charge it every 5 minutes, you dont have to let it drain out or manage it just let it do its thing!
I humbly admit this TouchPad could NEVER be a replacement for my iPad2 regardless of APP count or flash or anything else based on PURELY the battery life. I left this TP (running CM7) in my backpack yesterday afterwork with approximately 36% and woke up this morning with it at 1%. I won the ipad for work so kinda figured I could sell it and recoup some cost seeing how the TP was considerably cheaper but boy was I wrong.

Im sure the iPad 2 kills the TP on battery life and other areas, but you can't compare CM7 or CM9 which are still Alpha stage and have bugs that are being worked out. But if you switch to webOS you wouldn't have that problem. I have left it days without charging on webOS and it holds charge like a champ.

Well I also won the 32gb ipad2 for work, so it's not exactly like I had to come out of pocket for it.. Yes, I'm an ex tech junkie who was a flashoholic but at the end of the day, this new technology is more or less just modern day toys for all intents and purposes. Any pad I ever own will never be more than a cool electronic device for my kids to game on, to Netflix and YouTube on, and occasionally get some work done. In THAT regard alone, I kind of assumed the TP would replace my ipad2.. Guess I'll wait for better software and see what the battery life does but that is arguably the biggest advantage to Apple stuff and they don't get NEARLY enough credit for.. battery conservation, they sure have gotten good at it.
My guess is you probably left any number of things on that drain the battery: screen, bluetooth, wifi, etc. The only difference between these is that the iPad probably turns some of those off by default (such as the screen when it detects a cover over it). There are a plethora of mods and other trackers for Android that can automatically control that for you to save battery life.
So yeah, you're naive.

CM7? And +30% drain on an overnight? I can only assume you're doing something wrong. Even if you say got home at 6pm and left the device in your bag and woke up at 7am, more than 30% battery on 13hours is too much burn. If anything you probably have some stupid apps running (Facebook) that prevents the device from going to sleep. Last I ran CM7 I remember the drain to be 2% an hour at most.
On CM9 the battery burn is less than 1.5% an hour with a couple tweaks. I say switch to CM9 and figure out what you're running. Maybe its a Google sync thing not completing, but its almost always Facebook.
Samsung Captivate CM9 - Glitch Kernel | HP TouchPad CM9 - Bricked Kernel
Admittedly naive but this thread actually proved useful as it gave me some tips on things to check. I purchased Tasker for my Thunderbolt awhile back and a big selling point to trying to get this TouchPad working was being able to double dip on apps already bought. I know w/ Tasker I can automate a buttload of stuff including auto wifi settings, dimming the display, turning off unused apps, etc etc. Thanks for the tips guys, I knew it would never compare to the ipad but from the sounds of it, it might be relatively close. Any CM9 ROMs you best recommend, there appears to be a ton and I don't know where to start.
First of all CM7 is an alpha, and second of all why are you still using CM7. The CM alphas, even CM9 don't have the best sleep battery life, but its better than CM7. If Apple released an alpha of iOS created by volunteers only, do you think it would be polished and perfectly working.
Had flashed a friends TP about a couple of weeks ago to CM7 and followed the CM9 threads which said it was easier to start with 7 then upgrade to 9. Never followed the second set of instructions, doing now.
I use my TP for work running CM9... Mostly read PDF files on it so i don't have to print out a 80+ Page document.... so the screen is constantly on and off from 9 AM till about 3 - 4 PM and i can do 4 days like that with a single charge... BTW i dont shut down i just simply put it in sleep when i pack it in my bag for the next morning
and even when i go to charge it im at 30%... so its not like critical low
OP... boot into webOS for a couple days and see how your battery life is there... if its using 35% in sleep mode OVERNIGHT than there is something wrong with ur TP
What I don't understand is why we can't emulate what the iPad does to conserve battery life. An iPad and a Touchpad both running nothing should be able to have the same battery life sitting idle. An iPad essentially loses no battery life while sitting idle. Why can't we just do what they are doing?

Because the iPad and Touchpad have literally nothing in common. Completely different CPU, GPU, batteries, wifi radios, etc. Apple also has an advantage in that iOS is only made to run on a small handful of devices on the market whereas Android has to target everything, so its much easier for them to minimize power consumption.
The touchpad port may look like its really far along (and it is) but right now battery life is still a lower priority for the devs. Keep in mind that the Touchpad was never meant to run Android and the version we have was made by hobbyists. That we have something that runs at all right now is nothing short of amazing and nobody has any right to complain unless they're willing to jump into the code and fix things themselves.
Better battery life will come with time. Just be patient.
I'm running CM 9 KANG 20301 nightly.
Taken off charge 09.30, use throughout the day at various times and for various periods, wifi on all the time, now reading 50% remaining.
That's good enough for me.

iPad Development
-many paid employees
-able to design OS around hardware and build drivers
Touchpad Android Development
-volunteers with other jobs
-have to work with AOSP/CM9, many drivers are proprietary
If we had the employees/resources Apple has working on iOS for the iPad building Android for the Touchpad we'd have a stable version by now. You can't compare the two. Also CM9 is called ALPHA for a reason, its NOT supposed to be stable, its going to have issues.
It's worth noting, as has been pointed out several times now, that you're comparing the stock iPad OS with a completely unofficial and voluntarily compiled secondary OS for the Touchpad. If you look at any of CNET's tablet reviews, the battery life for the HP Touchpad running webOS was actually quite comparable to the iPad2's.
Just flash the latest version of classic nerd ICS and you will change your mind. Battery life on the latest version is freaking amazing. I have my tp running 3.2 classic nerd, overclocked to 1.5GHz and it will last 2 days with moderate usage. Simply awesome
http://classicnerd.net/
Let us just call him naive and call it a day. Once battery life gets past a certain point, who cares about another hour or two? Now if you gave me a tablet with e-ink battery life... Will have to wait for Mirasol for that, I guess.
The TouchPad with dual OS's rocks! Who wants that flashless FruityPad with its walled garden?
Yeah, I echo some comments here. Why are you still on CM7, its terrible. CM9 is tablet optimized, and it only takes 4 seconds of the ICS to see the night and day difference.
I too get several days of standby on CM9 Alpha 2. And awesome battery life on webOS. I also enjoyed webOS, much better than CM7. At least webOS is tablet optimized, and made for the hardware. So, its stable, elegant, intuitive, and once tweaked very snappy and responsive.
If battery life is your primary concern, use webOS. Its got a few tablet apps, and a solid browser. But, if you really want Android give CM9 a try.
And remember the age old xda addage; if you want an apple product, don't buy a non-apple product. This happens far more with the phones. Android is only well received by the person that seeks it out. If you are stuck with an Android device, you will hate it. If you only switch from iOS to android "because of boredom" you will hate android. At the end of the day only you can decide what's best for you. </rant>

Actually almost any other Android tablet > TP.
It's just that... the TP is much much cheaper.

I am seriously thinking about returning my Sony Tablet S.
I can't seem to get more than 3 hours out of this without a charge.
I play a full movie with wifi/GPS on and then i am down to 30%.
I do have it rooted and most of the bloat apps is gone. I check the battery indicator constantly and the biggest app using battery seems to be android so nothing is zapping my battery life.
Any ideas?
I think something is wrong with you're tablet, mine lasts for more then 8 hours without root.
So yes, return it and ask for a replacement.

Try and adjust the backlight intensity
When I first used my tablet the battery seemed to be gone in no time. I have found that reducing the backlight manually has helped. I would say there was a definite difference.
Thanks for all the responses.
Problem is this is for my kid. He don't really have the patience to wait for charges every day.
He like to watch movies on the tablet and play some games here and there. Considering he only use it for 3-4 hours a day, this is insane how short the battery is.
I thought i will never say this...but another android guy bite the dust and cross over to the evil apple kingdom (exchanging for the ipad2 with 10 hour battery life).

so we've all told you that it doesn't sound normal and that you should get much longer out of the device and your answer is "it must be android" rather than a faulty device.......
8 hours to 10 hours on mine, depending on what i do. with and without root, it doesn't change my battery life.
Mine about 8 hours
Had the same issue in the past... Delete all on USB and make a factory reset solved the problem. Now it run up to 8 hours.

Same issue and fix here.
I have decent battery life ( 6+ hours) but one thing that makes me wonder is the idle time.
5 hours of screen time is less power consuming than the tablet being 20 hours in idle. Has anyone the same experience?
Yes. In my case it's the 3G modem. Turn it off generally and only on when you use it.
If I compare this case with my iPad I have to say, that the 3G modem in the sony uses much more energy in idle than in my iPad.
My Tablet is WiFi-only. And WiFi shuts down when the screen goes off.
Battery use:
Tablet idle ------------ 49% --> 15h 8m 57s
Screen---------------- 37% --> 4h 56m 31s
Is this strange behaviour or am I just paranoid since this is a totally different battery usage than on a phone( e.g Sensation)?

Its using a lot of battery in sleep mode. But sometimes it doesn't, sometimes sleep mode last way longer but most of the time its about 25-30 hours in sleep mode and that is way too much...

Hmm. You do realise playing videos and having the wifi on in the background will cane the battery? Even more so if you're streaming said videos to your device via wifi. No doubt you've got the screen turned up full brightness as well?
Mine runs perfectly well and can last for a couple DAYS between charges, depending of course on how I use it.
Follow the tips provided by the others, you might get a fix. If not, get a new one from Sony. It's not a problem with Android - I suspect if you watch hours and hours of movies on an iPad you will still experience excessive battery drain because of the intensive nature of what you're doing!
Thanks for all the suggestions. If the tablet is for me to use daily, I probably would have condition the battery, try to delete all and then restart. However, it is for my kid and frankly it is unacceptable that a brand new tablet after watching one movie (just regular mp4 file i installed into the internal SD) is down to 30% charge.
I won't even start with the rest of the things i am disappointed with; the missing 6 gigs on the 16 gig, the screen little darker than i wanted (the screen protector I don't like at all), and frankly honeycomb in general is not that crispy and well developed.
I did end up getting a Ipad 2. After watching 1 movie, the thing still got 80% juice left....is night and day. Screen is sharper and brighter and most importantly it last more than a day without charge.
I don't want to hype about ipad here and i am still an android fan (i got 2 android phones), but the ipad really is WOW compared to the current corp of android tablets. Yes i am disappointed i won't be able to "tweak" the ipad like i can with droid pads, but Apple OS is so much better developed than honeycomb or ICS for that matter that really you can live without the tweaking.
For all you guys, with Wi-fi only (and 3G if you like the solution), before putting it to sleep put the device in flight mode. I've done it on mine and it was asleep for 4 days while I went out on a journey and when I came back only 30% of battery was gone...
I honestly can only fault the ipad in the sense that a media device, that for all intensive purposes is basically a more convenient option than a laptop, does not have flash support. Quick web browsing on tablets is great but it's useless without flash :S. Damn apple. Other than that I think the iPad is pretty great, especially now that the pricing for the new iPad has become alot sharper than in the price. Obviously to combat the success of Android tablets of late. But all I want out of a tablet is a bit of web browsing here and there, a couple games now and then and a nice digital photo frame to boot
I don't know about everyone else, but I have no desire to flash the crap out of my Sony tablet like I do with my SGS2. Now that I have root access it's doing everything I wanted it to do (and should have done!) from the start. So long is it's stable and responsive I'll be happy with it for a few years at least.
I was never happy with my tablet from day one but for me it was just software - sluggish and app incompatibility - a factory reset and root has fixed all that now. Never once have I had an issue with battery life. Sure as hell out-does any gameboy/ds/psp I've owned. Standby will last weeks if I don't touch it too.
So to those of you getting around 1-2 days standby time, something is seriously wrong with your tablet. There must either be a fault with your battery itself, or some app has gone rogue and just keeps it awake the whole time. i dont think any type of conditioning your battery will heed any results;
I didn't condition my battery at all when I got it and it's just fine. I played it with the 5% charge it had out of box till it died, got home, charged a bit, played with it till it shut off again, then when it got about 1/2 full just took it off charge and played with it again. Now it normally gets charged every friday whether it needs it or not.
I guess the title says it all. I'm interested in buying the Z Ultra (unlocked international) but I'm very concerned about the battery.
I HATE having to charge my phone in the middle of the day. If it has to happen once a week that's too often for me. What I currently do with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (which I use as a phone) is I charge it at night when I'm going to sleep. I never have to worry about the charge, even if I am using it constantly all day. If I use the device sparingly I can even stretch it out for two days.
Can this device come even close to that?
Will I have to keep a charger with me at all times?
I can accept a smaller battery than my current amazing performance. What I'm looking for is that most of the time, I can wait to charge my phone until I'm going to bed with average usage. Not constantly checking messages, emails, browser, etc.
Thanks for the answers guys!
hello,
i am also interested to buy the XZU but also worried like you about battery..
What i want to know. how would be the battery life in 1 or 2 years ?
I think we have to wait a few more month to get the best details
The answer is pretty clear. You can't compare the two. 7.7 has nearly 2x battery capacity (5100mAh vs 3000mAh) than ZU. Tab 7.7. It runs on 2 Cortex A9 processer which is slower and use much lesser power than the latest Snapdragon 800 chip.
I can only say battery if the 3G ZU is comparable to Samsung S4 LTE.

It all depends on user. How I use the device will be different from everyone else. But generally speaking you can go to the General Section and check the battery usage stats. Most people can last through a working day (ie leave home with 100% and survive until knock off and reach home).

This is one of my biggest dilemma when I was considering the Z Ultra. To be frank, I hated phones without swappable batteries so I rarely buy such phones.
If you share the same concern, ask yourself if you can do with large powerbanks (I'm personally not really fond of the idea). Personally, if possible, I prefer a swappable battery - just change and ready to go.
If you dislike powerbanks, maybe you should wait for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
It's a matter of choice. If you like the phone, buy it. With some tweaks you can make it last a whole day.
I don't think I'll "just buy it". The phone looks beautiful & everything but battery life for me is very important. I have this problem with all phones these days. They can all be made just a tiny bit thicker and have a bigger battery that lasts for a day and a half or two days with a few hours each day of screen time. That way if you use the phone a little too much today, it'll still last till the end of the day.
If you work for Sony you can give them this feedback
All smartphones have this so called 'problem'. The battery just can't handle more than a day with average usage. The only thing remaining is to use apps to hibernate applications,CPU handling and other tweaks,of course,on a rooted phone.

Sorry guys I'm not here to complain!!! I'm just asking about the phone and how it suits my preferences. Great battery life is a requirement for me and others who have posted in this thread. Tweaks might help, but I'm not interested in spending my time fiddling till I get it just right. I've also heard that a lot of Sony devices can have very long standby time which is great, but I also want long usage time.
For now I'll stick to my (admittedly crazy) way of using my tablet as a phone till someone makes a nice large screened phone (6+) with great (not average) battery life. There are smaller phones with great battery life, this however is a new size that I'm interested in (big but not toooo big) but my original requirement remains: great battery life.

Just remember that the Mate has a 720p display - stretched across 6.1 inches. It looks like Satan runs Huawei Now, i'm not sure if you care at all, but that would give me a heart attack.

Actually, it's not too bad. I've even used the Note 10.1 before which is a 720p stretched over 10.1'' screen
Honestly it isn't too bad considering the viewing distance (remember PPI alone doesn't mean a thing if you don't take into account of the viewing distance) but once you've been spoilt by FHD screens.. there's no going back

4K TVs are coming out now.. Let's wait for the era of 4K smartphone to emerge... but then 128GB microSD cards will feel like a 3.5" floppy disk in term of capacity
I checked and didn't find the Huawei in my country.
About pixel density, at 6 inches 1280 * 720 is pretty good but of course Sony's 1080p is amazing.
I just read the Engadget review of the Z Ultra and it seems pretty average for a phone but strange that they played one game for one hour and lost 40% of the charge! I'm not ready to deal with that unfortunately.
Seriously the device is expensive but I would've bought it in 2 seconds if the battery was better.

They played Riptide GP 2 for an hour. Have you seen that game? It's not exactly Tetris, so it's understandable that it sucks the life out of the battery. I watched a YouTube review of Riptide, and they said it kills the battery, and the reviewer played it on a different device (can't remember which, but it was either the Note 2, S4, HTC One or the Moto X)
I did a Google search for external power back for an 'Xperia z ', as this mobiles been around for a while.
I found an external battery product for the Xperia z from a company called 'Power Bank', and decided to send them an email enquiry regarding any possibilities that they might do a similar the market product for the 'Xperia z ultra', they replied saying that it is very likely that they will have something in on the market, and to watch their website during the coming months.
So, for anyone who's thinking of getting one, or has one already, there's a good change the battery stamina issue may well get solved.
Hope this info helps.
