Hi guys, pardon my longwinded-ness
I bought an Atrix just shy of a week ago, out of the box, unrooted and literally stock, it froze up after it went into sleep mode. I had to remove the battery and reboot.
Unfazed, i proceeded to root and got Titanium Backup, Juice Defender, etc..
The phone freezes less, but suddenly it starts randomly rebooting, its quite annoying really, especially when it freezes as you dont know when it happens and you just dont get any calls or texts, which is really bad because i'm a salesperson.
So i'm pretty decide on getting it replaced 1 for 1, the question here is, would my backup done on Titanium Backup for my current phone work with my exchanged unit?
Thank you in advance!
AND with any other Android phones and tablets. That's half TB's worth, being able to upgrade and keepign everything.
BTW, the Atrix has a lot of reboots on stock froyo. Mines only stopped after GB was release and I started using custom ROMs. I dont believe exchaning it will solve the problem.
What he said and yes. It will work fine titanium backup

I just don't get it. I literally follow every instruction to a T and still get hosed every time. The Droid is so much easier to hack than these phones. It's unnerving.
Here's a 'quick' recap of what I've done so far.
My girlfriend has a vibrant, I installed one of sombionix's ROMs on it and she loved it. I think the latest one I installed was 1.7 I convinced her to try out a froyo ROM and she didn't like it, so I went into recovery and attempted to restore a nandroid backup I had made of the 2.1 ROM. Little did I know that apparently you have to install a 2.1 kernel on the Vibrant first if moving from a 2.2 ROM to a 2.1 ROM (Nandroid on the droid restores the kernel too, so I wasn't aware of this). So recovery got stuck at 'restoring data'.
I spent a week trying to get the damn phone into download mode, FINALLY got it there and restored back to stock JI6 (I think that's what it's called anyway). At this point I was on a stock 2.1 kernel and thought that restoring the original nandroid backup would work this time. Yet AGAIN the restore got stuck at 'restoring data'. Can someone please tell me what the hell I'm doing wrong? After waiting 45 minutes at 'restoring data' I rebooted the phone again. The odd thing is, the bionix lady started talking and saying she was initializing bionix. I know this normally takes 10 minutes or so, so I am waiting, but I have a hard time believing the phone will work without being fully restored. Is it possible I didn't wait long enough? (45 minutes on 'restoring data')
Any other suggestions for what I've done wrong? Will Vibrant hacking always be this frustrating? If so, I'm probably going to get her back to stock and leave her that way. The only problem is I *NEED* to get this nandroid backup to work to get some important text messages and other things she had saved. Please help.
So I just odin'd back to stock, and this time before attempting to restore the nandroid backup I went into CWM myself to delete data and cache before restoring. The phone hangs at 'formatting data'. It's as if anytime CWM tries to do anything with the data partition the phone freezes. Any suggestions?
Alright, I FINALLY got the restore process to finish. I then rebooted the phone and now I'm stuck at the Vibrant logo. What on earth am I doing wrong? I just don't understand this. It's like every single time I conquer one obstacle, there's another one waiting for me. What do I need to do now? The bionix lady says 'initiating bionix, hardware acceleration sequence enabled', etc. as if it's going to load up but it does nothing. What now?
ARGH. So after getting the restore process to work and getting stuck on the vibrant screen, I again odin'd back to stock JI6. Instead of Odin flashing me back to stock JI6, somehow my phone came on and is exactly the same as when I made the original nandroid backup I've been trying so hard to restore to, except that there is no root, it's the wrong kernel, and things aren't working right (apps do nothing when clicked, text messages won't open, etc). WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?! UGH.
I absolutely loathe this phone. Its performance is amazing, but this thing is a hacker's nightmare. I feel bad for those of you that own this piece of ****. I just spent the past hour redownloading a bionix 2.1 ROM, manually restoring all of her apps from titanium backup (free version, so had to do it one by one). I FINALLY got the phone to a point that was very similar to the nandroid backup I've been trying so hard to get back to and the damn thing rebooted, and now launcherpro is force closing repeatedly and not allowing me to do anything else at all. This phone is absolute crap as far as hacking goes. And I know, I know, I'm sure plenty of you will respond with wise ass remarks like 'if you knew what you were doing it wouldn't be', or 'I've never had a problem', but just the fact that this phone is only a few months old and its support forum is 5x more active than the most active Droid support forums shows how much harder this thing is to hack than my Droid. I am so frustrated with this thing I'm about to throw it out the damn window. You literally cannot do anything without encountering a new problem.
I guess I'll start the whole process over again. What a waste of good hardware.
It just never ends with this thing. Now after odin'ing back to stock the phone goes to a black screen and just sits there unresponsive. I ****ing hate my life. I really do. Will someone please help me? Please tell me what I did wrong in each of the 6 to 7 different problems I've had in this thread now?
Well it's all over now. After the most recent debacle I found a thread stating that if stuck on a black screen, flash the 'froyo that doesn't brick' through odin, then downgrade to stock JI6. I did that, and the phone boots now, but it wiped the SD card so it's all over now. All my nandroid backups, all files, everything is gone. Somehow the only thing it didn't wipe is an angry birds APK I bluetoothed to her phone the night it came out, since it wasn't showing up in her market yet. This phone may dominate my Droid in performance, but I have never had so many issues with a device in my entire life, not even when I first began hacking my Droid. I am going to leave her on stock and move on with my life. So many hours wasted on this piece of ****, my head is spinning. I do appreciate all the help on this forum but it's all been in vain. Thanks anyway everyone.
You keep posting to yourself. The reason, you are the issue. Some people forget to go to a2.1 kernel, but this thread is crazy. I've been flashing this phone since it came out with no issues at all. Don't bash the phone because YOU are having a problem.
I think he'd have been well advised to steer his girl to an HTC, not samsnot. Sorry you had such a ***** of a time man.

You say its a hackers nightmare, it is one of the few phones that is almost impossible to brick, do not consider yourself a hacker for using odin, you could not even figure out how to do that right and messed up, that is what happend you are the reason it wouldn't work the phone is great you just suck.
Hey, a few months ago, thanks to you guys, I got Prime v2 up and running on my optimus and ever since then it will occasionally freeze up attempt to restart and then lock up on the android screen and i have to take out the battery and restart it. What I'm guessing is going on is that the phone think the SD card (where it runs Prime from) is removed. When I had the stock T-Mobile software on it I always had warnings about the SD card being removed. Well the past few weeks this has been happening about 8-12 times a day and sometimes I don't notice it and my phone has been offline for an hour, missing calls.
Is this common? Is it a hardware thing I can fix or just a software issue I can fix fix with a ROM upgrade? I'm thinking of just flashing back the T-Mobile software but I really really don't want to have to reinstall and setup all my apps and re-enter all my contacts (Gmail syncing doesn't work that well here in China for some reason). Honestly the only thing that I need the ROM for is using my VPN because the stock won't do it.
could be some damaged / bent pins on the sd area
This is unusual... Never happened to me before

I also had some SD card and boot issues with the prime rom. Switched to CM7 rom a few days ago and until now it works flawlessly.
This is the rom I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
This has happened to me twice, though I'm on stock 2.2.2. My phone is rooted and I use Link2SD.
The first time, I was listening to some songs when suddenly the SD card unmounted itself and the phone suddenly restarted from the Android screen, and got stuck there, same as you. The second time, I took my phone from my pocket and found it at the android screen, stuck! Both times, I had to take out my battery, and then switch on the phone again.
Both times, there is no reason for the phone to hang because it ran out of memory or something, because I clear unwanted background apps from time to time, and on both occasions, I wasn't running any apps that take up a lot of system resources.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
3 days ago my phone randomly rebooted while I was using the xda app. I really didnt think it was a big deal, I thought it might be the application and not nesisarly the phone its self that caused this.
Yesterday, my phone randomly rebooted again, but this time while I was listening to music. Now what really concerns me is that today my phone has already randomly rebooted twice in only about 8 hours of being on. I have a feeling that this problem is going to get progressively worse.
I am running stock + root and I removed all the att bloatware and some of the useless Samsung stuff using titanium backup.
Has anyone else had problems like this? Do you think I should exchange my phone for a new one?
Should I reflash stock + non root and see if it helps?
Thanks for the help.

Before even thinking of returning the phone why not simply fix the problem?
It's easy. All you need to do is to backup anything on the phone that
you think is important to you then go into CWM Recovery and select
"Wipe data/Factory Reset" and do a clean flash of whatever custom
or stock rom you are using now.
Your best bet would be to download and install the UnNamed v1.04 custom
rom since it's not only the best and nicest rom but it's also the most reliable
rom which is currently available for our phones.
Before you install or restore any apps, give yourself enough time so you can
tell for sure that there are no more random reboots or other issues.
If doing this resolves the issue, it means that you have install some app
which is not fully compatible to the phone or the app itself is faulty.
Good Luck!
I've been having the same issue but I'm 100% stock and also beginning to get worried :/

Personally what I'd do is get back to square 1. I'd follow Entropy's thread which I'll link below and get back to stock. I'd choose the non-rooted version myself just to be 100% safe. Use it for a couple days and see how it goes. If you've then isolated that the issue no longer exists, then you can go from there.
Basically establish if the phone is in fact faulty first, then proceed to see what is causing the issue. That's just my advice...

I've had a couple random reboots....
Wasn't too big of an issue and I was planning on exchanging it sooner or later.
My boss was having the same problems. He exchanged his and its totally fine now.
You should be within your 30 days. Just have it exchanged at the same store you purchased it from.

I've experienced no such issues.
What kind of reboots are you getting soft or hard. Does it reboot all the way back to the slash screen or just the ROM boot animation. Boot anim. reboots can be caused by apps or problems with the ROM, but hard reboots that take you all the way back to the Samsung splash screen are possibly kernel or hardware issues. Or bad oc/uv settings.

It would be a hard reboot, it takes me back to the Samsung screen. I am neither overclocked or underv volted so that's not what's causing it.

I had the same issue once but it turned out to be some of the apps that were moved to my external sd. If you have a sd inserted check that first..
Hi everyone,
first of all I did search forum, but havent find answer nor related thread, if I have missed it please sorry about it.
Got my SGS2 about 6-7 months ago. No issues, everything perfect. Got updated to 2.3.4 with KIES (not really fan of experimenting with phone that have price of above average monthly salary in Serbia).
Rooted device with ZergRush exploit since I wanted as close to mint backup in case I have to send it to service(dont ask, service here is pain in the butt), purchased Mobile Odin Pro (cheers to that Chainfire) and flashed Hellcat's kernel for 2.3.4 from Mobile Odin.
Everything was cool, CWM, made EFS backup with his tool too, and so on...
However, about 2 moths ago, I started experiencing random restarts of the phone. Did search, found out that it happens and actually dealt with it.
Now, recently, i switched off my phone in the evening (was on 20% and didnt wanted to leave it on charger, and didnt want it to die on me during night), and in the morning I havent been able to turn it on. Freaked out badly, only to realize that its battery was empty. Which was odd because I DID turned it off.
About few days ago, i switched the phone, and it went to full shut down, however managed to get stucked somewhere in process (LED's are on, did vibrate i think) but never shuts down itself.
After some time, when I picked it up since I saw LED's on, i realized that its very hot and that I cant switch it back on (presumably because it never got shuts down) and had to remove battery so that I can switch it back on. When I did, i found out that battery was about 15% drained in that 10 mins, and I dont know what he was computing while shutting down, but it burned the sh*t out of itself.
Tonight it did that again so I decided to ask first before I do factory reset/wipe everything (maybe update to ICS too).
So, any idea, suggestion what to do is more than appreciated.
Cheers
Polite bump?
What is the actual problem .

Well assuming you have read original post, why the hell that happen, does it happen to anyone else, and how to avoid it?
this may help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
Well, as I said, its not bootloop.
As I said, I shut down the phone, it starts shutting down, turn on leds, vibrate and stays turned on. After that battery drains quickly, and phone gets very hot.
When I get battery out, and back in it boots up without problems.
And I dont have any cooked rom, just Hellcats kernel for 2.3.4 stock rom.
you problem
Hi there,
Here's the best way to resolve this issue you have to re-flash a fresh new rom, meaning a full installation of the android os and here is how to do it,
First search google and download ODIN to ur computer or Pc.
Next search again google and type the following ( Sammobile.com ) and register and after that type the model number of your phone for example (i9100) in the site search bar and download rom that u need and thats it this should solve ur problem
Note : be sure to have 100% battery charged before doing the above and after installing ur new rom do a full wipe and enjoy,
I hope this was helpful,
Regards,
iMatrix
Yeah, thats probably that I will end up doing, luckily i have bought Titanium Backup so that I can backup all apps that I have and restore them after wiping everything.
I was wondering that somebody have any idea what might be going on.
Thanks for suggestions everyone.
before that try wiping cache and dalvik cache

This seems to happen quite a bit on gb roms.. definetely time to upgrade to ICS
Actually from what I have read about ICS 4.03, Im actually glad I didnt.
Releasing it in that state(e.g. battery issues again, 3rd party sms programs sends sms twice...) is bad for both G and Samsung imho...

I think I'll wait few more iterations just in case
Out of curiosity, has anyone experienced random hot reboots?
Once in awhile the S3 will stop responding for a few seconds, then effectively hot reboot. All apps close and it reloads the home screens.
Apps no longer appear in recently used. Like I did a full reboot.
T-mobile rooted stock ROM. No other changes or tweaks to the system other than root.
Happened to me twice in the last day. 1st time it happened, I just finished using a flashlight app, 2nd time, it was just sitting there in my pocket.
AT&T Still Unrooted Stock.
This seems to be happening at an alarming rate for me, every other day perhaps. And occasionally during a call (not good)
Find it hard to believe we're the only 2 with this problem.
Maybe no one else stares at it long enough to see it happen. Maybe someone has noticed when they look at their phone their recently used apps have been cleared but don't know why.
Happened to me once during clipboard usage. Tmo here
This has happened to me multiple times within the last couple days on telus i747 rooted and stock rom and kernel.
Happens here also.

The only problems I've ever had were either xda or minimal reader pro locking the phone up, screen goes black, force closes said app and then phone goes back to normal. But it's definitely the app(s) having the issue
