3 days ago my phone randomly rebooted while I was using the xda app. I really didnt think it was a big deal, I thought it might be the application and not nesisarly the phone its self that caused this.
Yesterday, my phone randomly rebooted again, but this time while I was listening to music. Now what really concerns me is that today my phone has already randomly rebooted twice in only about 8 hours of being on. I have a feeling that this problem is going to get progressively worse.
I am running stock + root and I removed all the att bloatware and some of the useless Samsung stuff using titanium backup.
Has anyone else had problems like this? Do you think I should exchange my phone for a new one?
Should I reflash stock + non root and see if it helps?
Thanks for the help.

Before even thinking of returning the phone why not simply fix the problem?
It's easy. All you need to do is to backup anything on the phone that
you think is important to you then go into CWM Recovery and select
"Wipe data/Factory Reset" and do a clean flash of whatever custom
or stock rom you are using now.
Your best bet would be to download and install the UnNamed v1.04 custom
rom since it's not only the best and nicest rom but it's also the most reliable
rom which is currently available for our phones.
Before you install or restore any apps, give yourself enough time so you can
tell for sure that there are no more random reboots or other issues.
If doing this resolves the issue, it means that you have install some app
which is not fully compatible to the phone or the app itself is faulty.
Good Luck!
I've been having the same issue but I'm 100% stock and also beginning to get worried :/
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Personally what I'd do is get back to square 1. I'd follow Entropy's thread which I'll link below and get back to stock. I'd choose the non-rooted version myself just to be 100% safe. Use it for a couple days and see how it goes. If you've then isolated that the issue no longer exists, then you can go from there.
Basically establish if the phone is in fact faulty first, then proceed to see what is causing the issue. That's just my advice...
Return to Stock - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
I've had a couple random reboots....
Wasn't too big of an issue and I was planning on exchanging it sooner or later.
My boss was having the same problems. He exchanged his and its totally fine now.
You should be within your 30 days. Just have it exchanged at the same store you purchased it from.

I've experienced no such issues.
What kind of reboots are you getting soft or hard. Does it reboot all the way back to the slash screen or just the ROM boot animation. Boot anim. reboots can be caused by apps or problems with the ROM, but hard reboots that take you all the way back to the Samsung splash screen are possibly kernel or hardware issues. Or bad oc/uv settings.

It would be a hard reboot, it takes me back to the Samsung screen. I am neither overclocked or underv volted so that's not what's causing it.

I had the same issue once but it turned out to be some of the apps that were moved to my external sd. If you have a sd inserted check that first..

I think I figured out when the data drops. The phone will lag to the point of inoperability, then the phone for some reason has trouble reconnecting to the tower. the only thing I have found to fix this is a factory data reset. I have been lucky enough to reboot in airplane mode sometimes which helped once or twice. Or to reload a rom. I just dont know how to fix it? I had my phone warranty replaced due to this issue and it still remains on new phone. I am somwhat pissed myself

Happens to me randomly specially when searching in Map app. Phone starts lagging and I have to reboot. After reboot it shows No entry like sign in status bar. Nothing works, I tried rebooting, reinstalling same rom, new rom, new modem. What works is take out battery and reinsert it. Thought I got a bad phone, but now it seems others have this issue too?
Im just south of chicago and I usually have to download my apps 2 or 3 times to actually get them installed. I noticed that after you choose to download and it spits you back out in to the menu. Reclick the app you just installed if there isno statusbar you are not trully downloading it.

In addition my GPS has been extra sucky lately, went from being able to lock 8 inside to usually not locking at all. Nothing I've tried has fixed it, but then randomly it'll work just fine. I can't reliably reproduce the problem.

This is the second vibrant that I have had this problem on, So I want to say software, unless I got 2 phones with the same problem. The EDT gps fix makes my gps lovely when I have a data connection. I know that heathen has also made a flashable data fix which would at least stop from having to do a data reset, and reinstalling all apps. Unfortunately the data fix is rom specific and not a universal deal. Anybody with more experience know why many vibrants have this intermittent problem???
Since I unrooted I have had no data drops, but cannot fully unlock the potential of the device, has anyone heard if a way to maintain stable data thru root?
Thanks

Did you try out different modems at all?
I'm wondering if anyone is having trouble with their phone rebooting constantly? I recently changed recoveries to 5.5.0.4, and now my phone reboots constantly. Never had this problem with the buggy no off-charging CWM (although I had the worst time getting my phone to boot after the battery died ), and I don't think I've changed anything else (same ROM) since then except recovery, but I don't think it's from recovery.
This is how it started: I was playing Tiny Tower last night to drain my battery, so I could have a fresh charge. When it got around 3% life, it rebooted, and now it has been rebooting whenever I turn the screen on for a few minutes. I tried fixing permissions and reinstalling NRGZ stock kernel, but it's still rebooting.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Edit: Went ahead and wiped everything and re-installed Energy ROM, and it seemed to have fixed the problem, but it just rebooted again. Starting to think it's a hardware problem now.
Also just for clarification, it's not a full reboot (no HTC splash screen); it just goes back to the boot animation.
Update: I went into the bootloader and did a factory reset and then wiped everything from CWM again and reinstalled Energy. I have slowly been restoring apps fron Titanium Backup, and I think the reboots were being caused by RootDim (possibly reacting negatively with NRGZ button backlight tweak). I'm not 100% sure about this, but it didn't start until I used RD to completely turn off the button lights. Anyways, the reboots seemed to have stopped for now...
I had a similar problem happening after I installed RootDim, but I never really inquired about it so I just left it uninstalled.
However, I saw on the forums that people solved these types of constant rebooting issues by going into CWM recovery > advanced > fix permissions.
I never tried it, but I kind of wish you didn't factory reset and reflash so you could give it a shot and let us know if it solves the problem

Are you sure you're flashing the kernel properly? Flash the ROM, then reboot the phone from recovery and let it boot before using the kernel flasher.
My buddy had a constant reboot issue (along with other issues) using that recovery when I tried rushing and flashing the kernel right after the ROM while still in recovery.

Does anyone help me to fix this issue?
Galaxy S3 Turns Off (Fully Off) Overnight or When Unused
Having exactly the same problem.
When my Galaxy S3 is left for a while (more than half an hour or so it seems) I find it is not in idle mode, but has fully turned itself off.
The question is, whether this is due to a crash, or intentional (which would be a terrible feature if you wanted to receive a call overnight.)
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it? - The first S3 I had developed screen issues and exhibited similar problems, turning itself off. But it turned out that one was faulty - the screen was corrupted after a while and it would not turn back on.
So, is there a feature we can turn off which does this that we can turn off? Or is it simply a flaw, and if so is there a way to trace it with say, logs or something else?
Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hmm... Perhaps, but if an app can cause your phone to shut off entirely without user input?... surely that's an O/S security issue
Well, I've seen a few other people with the same issue, I suppose I could try a factory reset and try for a few days without any extra apps. (Arg! The pain of no apps!)
Widgets could be a culpret I suppose. Still, turning off entirely? Seems a bit odd.
Anyone have any more ideas?
Experienced same thing when i was still new to android. Phone just reboot itself and sometimes it lights up itself with out touching it. Then i read somewhere that it could be some app causing it so i did a fresh start. Wiped up everything and install a stock rom thru odin. From then i always read user reviews and its permissions when downloading apps and when i find the permissions fishy il pass on it.

Hi
my s3 keeps freezing. the screen basically just freezes while i'm doing something. and the device stops responding to anything.
cant lock it. cant do anything. it doesnt even autolock , the screen just stays on with whatever i was working on.
------------------
the only solution is to wait for it(about 20 minutes) and it will get back to whatever it was doing earlier. or hold the power button and it will reboot.
when i checked my router, i can see that it is still connected. so wifi is working. when i call my number from another phone, it rings but the S3 does absolutely nothing. and after it starts working again, i dont see any missed calls. so anyone who calls me while its "Freezing" will get ignored. i wont even know !!!
---------------
its not related to any app or function.
i updated it to 4.1.2 using odin a month ago (official release, because it would take it forever to get the update in my country) . it was running smoothly. a week ago it started freezing for moments every day or two. now i cant get through 10 minutes of using the device without it freezing for 20 or 30 minutes.
then the screen is turned on and it goes back to normal. and freezes after 10 minutes even if i dont use it.
i've noticed that using WiFi speeds up the freezing. When Wifi is On, it takes about 30s - 3 minutes for it to freeze.
--------
---
I did a Factory reset(full wipe from recovery mode), it worked for about an hour after the reset , and started freezing again like before.
----------------
after researching online.. many people had the same issue. some say its the stock android browser(but i dont use the browser), some said its a glitch in WiFi power saving mode(Disabled it, nothing changed), some said its a problem with the battery(i'm gonna trade batteries with my friend and see what happens).
I'm Freaking OUT !!! ... the device is Very Unstable and i use it on daily basis, i cant live without it. i dont know what to do. i've almost tried everything.
and i've paid alot of money for it
....
.........
i dont know what to do next. probably gonna flash it back to 4.1.1 or 4.0.4
i Hope to hear any ideas from you. or from anyone who had this issue with his device.
thanks in advance

Hi Ali5anDro31,
Just curious if you have any further updates? Is yours still working well?
It seems I have the exact same problem as you (freezes randomly, more likely to freeze during heavy load but also often within 5 minutes of boot, usually unfreezes in about 20 minutes, and often gets stuck on Samsung logo if forcing reboot rather than waiting).
For a while I thought that following your advice and just letting it unfreeze itself when it happens (even though it takes a long time) it might have been fixed (going 18 hours without a freeze after having about 30 freezes the two days prior), but now I just got one again (within 5 minutes of starting browsing this morning).
Should I stick with it and hope it resolves itself, or take other measures (e.g. see if I can return the phone)?

I keep getting freezes also.
So far, it only happens with XXELLC based roms. When I go back to XXELLA the phone never freezes.
I have tried several XXELLC Roms, but all of them freeze, including Omega and VikingRom.
I'm now on VikingRom v4.1 (XXELLA) and no freezes.
Edit:
Nevermind, now it's happening also on XXELLA roms. All this started happening to me after i installed CM10.1, and then i went directly to XXELLC, of course wiping everything including internal storage.
Spent 2 days with this problem, i'm on XXELLA with a completly unmodified S3 using a 64gb SD card. I think i've fixed it have now been running for 30 hours without a freeze. before it was freezing every 5 minutes, nearly sent the phone back.
Any way my solution is uninstall all updates to samsung 'music hub' and uninstall the samsung push service updates and disable. this seemed to fix it. Can't believe Samsung are putting out software that knacks their own phones.

Hi fellow gadgeteers,
I have a problem. I have been flashing and reflashing roms on and off for a couple months. I typically do this when I find something about a particular rom that is too much of a pain to deal with (Ie. flashing screens, crazy battery loss, intermittent rebooting, locking up, etc.). Well, I think I have done something wrong and I am not sure how to fix it.
Recently I took and chance and upgraded to an unofficial KitKat rom for the Note. That rom eats battery on my phone like crazy. However, that wasn't the biggest issue I had. I can mamage battery loss. However, I constantly had to cope with the phone rebooting while involved in an online game. I tried many settings but could not stop the problem.
I restored the OS from a back up, but now I get a keyboard error which refers back to the KitKat rom versions keyboard.
Ok so, Here is my question.
Where can I find an Odin capable versions of the Phone OS so that I can completely wipe the device and start from scratch? I have tried sammobile however, their D/L system (rapidgator) is requiring me to wait for one hundred and twenty minutes for a capta response... (ain't noone got time for that)
Is the previous methond the best for what I am trying to do or does someone have a better suggestion?
I appreciate any help I get. Thank you very much.

In restoring your back up, did you do required wipes? Just as if flashing new rom? That wouold be super easy to overlook.
If you did wipes, you could force close your keyboard and clear that cache.
If you are still wishing to revert all the way back, you could always use Kies and the emergency restore.

I restored a backup from a couple weeks ago. I didn't restore on back up... Didn't even occur to me. I'll have to remember that. However, the back up works fine. I encounter the afore mentioned keyboard error after flashing to another rom after the restore
I believe you mean force close keyboard in app manage/ app control.. Yes?

Yes. Force close and clear the cache on it. When you need the keyboard next time it will fire right back up, hopefully without issue.

Awesome! If I encounter that issue again I will most definitely try that out! Thank you very much!
