You should be able to resize some if the widgets at least, tap and hold on them and a resize box should appear. For the icons maybe an app such as Bettercut would help, you can use custom icons with it, although you'll need to find a set that you're happy with.

Desktop visualizer will let you create widgets of many sizes (which themselves can be resized by Launcher Pro) with icons or images to launch any application.

the problem i see with widget resizing is that it only changes the amount of space it takes up on the screen without actually scaling up the size of the words. also i will look into bettercut and see what its about thanks.

If you use Desktop Visualizer to create widgets with images (not app icons), the images will fill the size of the DW widget.

Text instead of icons?

I saw a couple of screenshots with text used instead of the icons and/or folders. If its an app what is it? I have the minimalistic text.

Post up the screen shot you are referring to, I'm not sure what you are looking at.
If you are reffering to icons that say "phone" instead of a picture of a phone it's just a simple png file. ADW and LauncherPro(i think) allow for icon changes. Widget Locker also allows custom icons. The files are all over the net, look in the Android section of xda, they have a huge Icon thread.
Danny has a theme that uses text for the main screen instead if Icons, looks pretty nice, after unzipping the file you can use what you need if you don't want the entire thing.

I think this is what you're looking for: http://www.mediafire.com/?bi6xcug62hktann. I didn't make these, just found them using a google search.
As was mentioned, you need a launcher that allows you to change the icon image. For example, long press on a dock icon in launcher pro and select "change icon," then you can select any icon you've put on your sd card.
Hope that helps.
You can try the texticons app in the market. Seems to work with most roms and launchers.
If you still need some, I have about 160.
Edit, here they are. From XDA, can't recall who to credit.

[Q] ADW - EX custom dock

I would really like a custom Dock on my phone - something simple that looks like Sense or the MotoBlur stock.
Basically I want 3 icons like Atrix stock has - Phone, Apps, Email with larger rectangle icons. The stock ADW 3 icon dock is just to small.
Any suggestions? Tutorials on custom docks?
Don't know if this helps but I've been playing with making custom docks on my Atrix.
Dock size for backgrounds is 480 x 80 pixels. You can create whatever background you are capable of at that size.
Dock icons are around 70 x 70 pixels (at least on Go Launcher).
If you can't get the icons the size you want then you can add the icon images to the dock background, set the icon images on the dock to blank .png images, and set the shortcuts to whatever (basically have an image of a button in the background with two blank icons launching the same destination on the dock, thus creating a long rectangular button). I haven't tested or anything so there might be some dead space between the two but its a workaround.
Edit** Here is a custom dock that I was using recently. Simple transparent black dock png with the android bot added to the center. I used a blank .png for the App Drawer icon so I can just click the middle to launch. The other icons are Go Launcher default.

Resize widgets?

Is there a way to resize the widgets? When I add the stock weather widget it only ads the small widget instead of the larger one that is there when the phone is powered up for the first time. I'm sure i read tbe widgets can be resized? Any tips? Thanks

Yep! If your hold down on the widget until the 'Remove' box appears and then let go you'll be able to resize a number of the Widgets that come with the S2

Only certain widgets can be resized, press and hold on a widget for a few seconds and when you let go, it wil be outlined then you can drag the bottom corner to where you want resizing the wiget.

Ahh yeah! cool... thanks for the tip
Thank you! I've been going insane trying to figure out how to resize the widgets after I accidentally triggered the resize box once.
I get loads of Emails offering to resize my widget .

I find that now under other launcher, such as apex and nova:
the resizeable samsung widgets do not work.
I mean, yes, apex and nova can resize widget but the result is just plain wrong.
for example: samsung yahoo finance widget.
under touchwiz, it originally at 4x1, but you can resize it to 2x2, 2x4, etc.
but under apex or nova, when i resize it, the size does not change, even if I resize the widget to full screen, it still remains at 4x1, it doesnt expand/shrink vertically and horizontally, the widget just centers itself to the whole screen.
Somebody knows how to fix this?
Or some ICS launchers, other than touchwiz, that can work with these widgets?
For some unknown reason, almost all ics custom roms do not like touchwiz.

1) The clock you see is called Simiclock. It is free, Play around with the settings to get it to look like you want.
For transparency go to:
Settings > Background Color > Alpha 0%
To add the battery indicator on the right go to
Settings > Battery Settings> Click *Display Battery*
Note: The divider you see is attached to Simiclock! (Not the weather!)
The desired look of the divider between the weather is made by
resizing SimiClock over the weather widget! (Using LauncherPro)
2) The weather widget is a part of Beautiful Widgets
Hope this help

How can I resize my icons to be bigger on the homescreen without rooting?

I was wondering if someone could please help explain to me how to go about resizing my desktop icons? I've downloaded some GO themes that include larger icons and are easy to replace--the icons were big enough to cover the icon label text. I don't have the experience to mess with rooting, and would like to have the "cubed icons" I found big enough as well, but when I insert them using Astro file manager, they're small and don't cover the icon labels. I am new to Android and am using GO Launcher EX. I have known for a couple of years that the best work and insight comes from XDA. Thanks.

ADWLauncher has the setting for size of icons, and a bunch of other settings to change the way they look.
I'll look into that launcher, but I would like to maintain GO Launcher EX...if it's possible.

Ideally, I'd like to have my cubed icons the size of the Firefox icon in the pic...again remaining with GO Launcher EX.

So for anyone who might be looking for this same thing, Desktop Visualizer is the best option I've found. It can take a little time to go through all of the icons and set them up, but ultimately it will give you the ability to size icons and route them to whatever shortcut/app you'd like. You could even get rid of app labals as well, if you wanted to. Here's what I was able to do.
