I was wondering how many of you might be put off by the fact that the Flyer is shipping with Gingerbread and not Honeycomb - even though it will get Honeycomb later.
Appreciate the feedback.
I love the idea of the scribe technology, but considering how small it is and battery life....plus it is not shipping with Honeycomb and the price is going to be higher than comparable devices....
It's sad as I have owned only HTC phones. I love their quality.
The scribe technology I LOVE! I can see so many added benefits of this - especially in syncing with Evernote. I also see a benefit with those having children.

There were some internal docs from either bestbuy or costco that were reporting a 10.1" screen edition as well later in the summer.
I'd pay top dollar for Scribe + 10.1". There is a serious dearth of handwriting systems for android. Now if we could just get an OCR input system (e.g. Graffiti for the old Palm PDAs). I've seen a demo of scribe, and it doesn't look like it does input analog>digital, maybe I'm missing something. Still better than nothing.
There was also one more interesting quip about Android 3.0 in Eldar’s article. According to him, if a hardware partner releases the tablet on Android 2.x version of OS, as per licensing agreement for Android 3.0, they are not allowed to update Android 2.x tablets to 3.0 version.

so if the news(rumors) are true, htc flyer won't be getting any honeycomb due to licensing issues?

I'd say that is probably just a rumour. I've not heard it from any other source. The article at unwiredreview is the only article that author has written and his dubious source of information is a Russian website that he links to
Also this from a far more reliable source:

@Farhadinho Absolutely. We are committed to offering a Honeycomb upgrade as soon as possible after Flyer's release.

What's all the hype over Honeycomb? I mean, what features do you gain other than all the overhype of being "tablet optimized. "
From my experience with the Xoom, tablet optimized means crashes at will and won't run crap......

I agreee - I'd rather wait for a stable version.
The Xoom is a worst case scenario. Made by Motorola, released prematurely.
The main benefit I see from Honeycomb is apps which are designed to run on larger screens, instead or "over-inflated" phone apps
Great I can't wait, however....
I can't wait for this tablet to come to market. Ofcourse there will be things I do not like, one is the fact it is not a phone. It is a tablet, and I want a tablet also to be a phone. Since it has 3g enabled I think a phone application is not hard to install. Any ideas on this?
Was all for the flyer as I'm a massive HTC fan ,but just ordered the ASUS transformer as it suits my want for a tablet and the need for a net book for the kids and it has honeycomb already and has good reviews
LEEDROID DESIRE HD using XDA PREMIUM
Won't be buying due to the fact that I already have a galaxy tab (Big Mistake!!) Although the design and ui of the flyer look good, along with the fact that htc are good with updates, and a lot of people I have talked too like the pen. Not sure about the onlive myself due to the fact that you have to use a onlive controller (what are you meant to do with the tablet if the controller is in both hands?)

From HTC's twitter, in response to my questions about the Flyer. They are saying it will get a Honeycomb update.

The idea is that you stream the game to your tv, so the flyer just replaces the normal onlive box that is sold, playing games on the flyer screen is also possible, but i agree that it sounds somewhat difficult :/ maybe they are going to sell some sort of case/stand like the Xoom and iPad have
but yes all the rumors suggest (from staples leaked sheets that a 10 and 8.9 inch honeycomb tablet from htc are coming this june, maybe thats when flyer will get update
id like to see what they do to sense considering there is that base bar on the honeycomb though
HTC Flyer (Evo View)
I'm disappointed in HTC's first tablet. Just the screen size is what disappoints me. Wondering why they dont add the 3D into it like the G-Slate has, after all they are coming out with a new EVO3d that i will be picking up once released!. Companies are struggling to separate themselves from everyone else when these android tablets are going to start looking identical, but HTC has their SenseUI and now Scribe which in my book gives them the edge! I'm just excited to see what happens with 3rd party firmware tweaking for performance to eliminate the possibility of skipping. MikFroyo and Fresh both have wonderful Firmwares that made my Evo many times better in terms of performance while clearing out the clutter
The LG tablet does not have a 3some screen, only 3d camera, a 3some screen of that size would add a lot of extra cost, it just wouldn't be worth it, but yes a bigger screen would have been a better choice by htc, but then again if you look at the first Android phones they made and compare them to what they have now....great things I predict to come

Game over for me. I just cancelled my preorder since the release date is going to slip again. Im travelling early June and want to make sure I have something to travel with so I ordered the Galaxy Tab 10.1v which I can pick up in a week or so.
Im gutted really! I really wanted a 7" tablet and REALLY wanted a HTC. I will check back here and see what you guys think of it after release *sniff*
I picked up my HTC Flyer this evening at Best Buy. General feel and speed of the device is very quick. I did not get the pen yet. They did not have any of those in stock at the particular store I was at.
My question however deals with the Onlive service. I was under the impression that the Flyer would come with Onlive built in to the system... However, I cannot find it or find any additional detail on the service. This was supposed to be one of the key selling points I thought.
Anyone have any details?
I have no details. Reviewers mentioned it was coming soon. I assume it has simply been delayed. But, it does bother me HTC has said nothing about it, and removed mentions of it from all their marketing and promotional videos.
Bump
Rather than start a new thread, maybe this will be useful! Engadget has a video demoing OnLive on our lovely Flyer's with a wireless controller!
Check here!
I wondering is this was a lovely bit of marketing spin.
In that 'eventually' you will be able to use Onlive (once Onlive is ready), but the way it was marketing suggested to you (and the rest of us) that it would be from launch.
I suspect if we looked, we'd be hard pushed to see anything from either party (HTC or Onlive) that actually says from launch.
Similarilly I'd thought I'd seen in some of the media/PR around MWC that with the Flyer you'd be able to use Skype supporting video. Now again that doesn't seem to be the case, as Microsoft don't yet have a freely available version of SkyPe available that supports video under Android.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy my Flyer but I feel with a handful of apps and services not available like they claimed, it is extremely disappointing. This tablet feels really rushed and it is strange because they were one of the last companies to market a tablet device. My impression originally is that Honeycomb would be released for it shortly after it was released but I keep reading it won't be released for potentially 3-5 months from now. I can't complain about Honeycomb too much because I knew that way before purchasing it but still...
In my opinion I don't think honey will take that long bc the 10" version is going to have honey on it with the scrib also. Im prety sure that i herd and saw on some reviews from HTC view that it will be getting honey shortly after launch which is June 24, so I'm thinking once the 10" comes out or right around that time the ota will be sent out. The 10" is supposed to hit this summer july. I have a friend with HTC and he also said when I asked him before flyer hit the shelf, "its coming soon after flyer's launch, along with onlive probably coming with the update."

I just checked my Flyer for an update and OnLive Viewer just popped up. After a quick download, I created an account and poked around a bit. I was unable to play any free trials but I would assume functionality is just around the corner. This tablet is getting better and better everyday. A couple of screen captures:
yup i just did the update this morning it looks sick i cant wait for live game play

If not, where did you get it?
Thanks!
Someone get a hold of that APK and remove any device requirements
I want this on my Xoom & OG!
APK !!!!. I'll try and port it to the nook color
please extract .apk HTC Flyer OnLive Viewer and put in this page for other android htc users ,
with titanium app or other you can save your apps installed .
extract and put it please
This might seem against yhe spirit of xda but..... Can we not port the apk. I would like to see some more official development on this unrootable device that i paied to much money for. This would effectively kill onlive for the flyer. Atleast wait until games are playable as this is only a viewer and only about as cool as just in tv

You must be joking. Since when is the "MY DEVICE HAS IT, EVERYONE ELSE **** OFF" mentality ever been a good thing? Android isn't supposed to have these idiotic exclusive applications, that's why the OS was so carefully designed to make applications compatible everywhere.
I'm really looking forward to someone ripping an apk... please?
+1. I'd love to have the apk. I could probably bypass the device check if it has one.

You, sir, are amazing! Works great on HTC Evo 4G. Still need to test it on my Transformer.
I installed it on my Nook Color running Cyanogen and it works perfect.
Thanks, that's awesome, it works on the Droid X, though the graphics are a little muddy. I'm a big fan on OnLive though I can't wait to see future Android updates.
Unfortunately not working on Sprint Hero running GB 2.3.4.
Installs, but force closes every time you attempt to open it.
Hi guys,
I've tested it on the Transformer and it is a no go. After looking at the logcat, it appears to be using a compiled .so, so it should only run on similar platforms to the Flyer. I'm somewhat shocked it works on the Droid X, bt I suppose the architectures are similar enough to work.
Disappointing. OnLive has said they want to aim for end of 2011 for a full tablet launch, including gaming. I can't see why it is taking them so long .
works just fine on my android HD2 but not on my dell streak 7
Thank you for the .apk you just made my day
Works on dhd as well as flyer

Yea, yea, but when will the pen SDK be released? That's the real big one.
Hard to find, but the link to the source is just above the comments.
I thought the pen SDK was released already... Shortly after the release of the Flyer.

and at the same time, HTC announced they are releasing the Flyer's source code! interesting time ahead of us. I can't wait

Honeycomb is something I have been expecting.
I may be in the minority here, but are there anyone else NOT that excited about Honeycomb upgrade? I also have a Honeycomb device (Asus Transformer) and Flyer is tons more reliable than Transformer. I have hardly seen any crashes or force close on my Flyer, while on the Transformer it is very frequent.
Granted, HTC most likely have done extensive research and testing to make sure Honeycomb is stable enough for the Flyer, but many would agree that Honeycomb is more of an exercise for Google, and the real tablet OS is the forthcoming ICS.
I dread the impending upgrade to HC rendering the Flyer into a crash prone nutjob as other HC devices. Hopefully my fear is unfounded and I will be proved wrong.
I have found alot of talk on alot of different sites about the upgrade to Honeycomb on the Flyer but I don't have a Flyer. I have a Evo View 4g, so what about us? Are we entitled to the same upgrade? I am glad that the Flyer is getting upgraded to Honeycomb but I am curious, are we (Evo View 4g owners) are included.

I almost sure they will release to "branded" versions of the device. I wouldn't worry too much.
As for looking forward to Honeycomb, I'm fine with the functionality of the current OS. With the advent of Honeycomb, I'm looking forward to the more tablet-centric and polished apps. For instance Zinio, while I've been very vocal that a larger tablet is more comfortable for magazines because they simulate the print form-factor better. It is nice to have the option to browse my magazines during lunch or during the commute. Also looking forward to Sketchbook Pro... it would be great news if they supported the pen integration, but maybe not in the first iteration.
Zinio is now available for the flyer without the need for honeycomb. Check the market for it.

There's a honeycomb specific version we can't get yet.
Looking on the sketchbook blog it looks like it will support pressure! Here's hoping that we see a Honeycomb update for our tablets soon!
Because the Flyer pen is HTC specific , apps need to be written specifically for it!
Don't discount HTC providing HC apps within their own firmware release for this and when the SDK is available, dev adding to that app list.
Heya, the evo 3d is a smart mobilephone, no doubt but the 3D function should, in my opinion, more be used.
Is it able to have 3d wallpaper for example if u fix your phone to landscape view or code a facebook application with a 3d chat, the messages could fly in your face or something. A 3d clock would be also cool.
Is it able to have those things or isnt the 3d technologie for smartphones enough developed yet?

Still waiting for the HTC sdk to be released. After that you will find many 3d apps. It's announced here http://htcdev.com/ , but as usual no sign of it yet...
Think you don't will find any 3d app before the sdk release.

I'm sure the APIs HTC will provide with will be compatible with the current stereoscopic screen of the evo 3d. They will also provide APIs for their pen technology with the SDK. These are explicitly for the Flyer tablet. The best part of it, they will also provide Sense APIs so developers can make use of the Sense controls......
Going to be a hot thing ...
Btw don't expect a 3d background for your regular sense desktop. As far as I can see 3d apps need to set the display in the special stereoscopic mode. But... a total 3d shell would be cool
Email I got today from HTC.
