Loosing widgets after reboot - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I keep loosing my widgets after some reboot (not all). As far as I can see all of my widgets are installed on internal memory and not in the Media Area. Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you solve it. It's not a big issue, but it's super annoying to set up those widgets all of the time. BTW I am running Pi-Crust 0.5 with faux123 1.3.

same issue except stock with faux's kernel... i think that may be the culprit

Same issue here too.

The issue as far as I am aware has to do with bloatware. Depending on what bloatware was removed with whatever ROM yer using, your widgets may get affected. Also the problem could lie in whatever programs you're freezing / uninstalling with Titanium Backup or whichever program you use to freeze / uninstall system shtuff.

i just have stock gingerbread except unlocked with faux's kernel and not bloatware frozen/removed

I am on alien build 3 with nothing frozen, faux123's 0.1.3 kernel and I have had this a couple of times.

Same issue running Faux's on Ninja SF.

Same here i am on the starwars rom.

Either boot to CWM, advanced, fix permissions...............or in Rom Manager scroll down to bottom of menu on main screen and select fix permissions.

how well that help?

Regardless, upon rebooting after fixing permissions all my widgets were deleted so I don't think that was the solution

Same here...was really annoyed..all installed/restored to internal SD. I too began having this problem after installing faux's kernel. Sucks because i really like that kernel.

Works for me. I don't set up my widgets then fix permissions. I fix permissions after restoring all my apps, and before dropping widgets on the home screens. If you set up your widgets first, you will likely lose them on reboot, but then after you set them up again, you should not have the issue recur.
I was losing my widgets every 1-2 days before I started doing this. It's part of my ROM installation routine now, just like wiping.

Hopefully Fixed it
Hopefully Fixed it
I have hopefully fixed the issue,
I've written an answer on how I did that,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18782554#post18782554

thanks. really help this:
-wiped dalvik cache (used Rom Toolbox)
-fixed permissions (used CWM)
bad that I could not back the widgets that were. a "sticker" was the necessary information, most likely it was lost. Now I do not trust any information storage widgets. All I will write at least a text file. too bad ...

Wierd problem: home button reset itself and loses default launcher setting

Anyone experienced this weird problem before? After some use of about few min usage with 2 or more apps running, if the HOME button is pushed, it would reset the launcher and ask me to pick the default launcher again. I have ADW Launcher, Touchwiz, and LauncherPro. Everytime it does this by prompting "> Complete action using ...", I select ADW and checkmark "Use by default for this action." Some 10 - 20 min later, it loses the selection and ask me again even after reboot, uninstall, reinstall, same problem. I have stock froyo ROM, but rooted, with other kernels. I had latest supercurio kernel, it had same problem. I'm testing Overstock kernel, still same problem. The problem is not so bad, it is bearable as long as I don't press the HOME button. It just gets annoying and happened like 70% of the time of pushing that button. Anyone knows how to fix this? Danke.
Same problem here, but with go launcher. Im using darkys 9.5
Home switcher didnt solve it!

No, i guess the only way to solve is only having one installed... Bitte

I had a similar issue recently. It was an app (MoboPlayer) causing it. Every time I would long press the home button it would lose the default setting. The dev recently fixed it, but I'd suggest having a look at what apps you recently installed and do some testing.

Wait so you are saying an app can cause this? I thought the apps are chrooted (sandboxed) so can't really affect each other except for OS affecting them. What's the best way to figure out what was recently installed? I have lots. If none, I guess I can try uninstall all the apps...and reinstall just a few to see if that holds up.

Just a idea..
-Have Titanium backup.
Backup the launchers(keep 1 there though you need 1), if you have to save the data, save the data.
uninstall it.
reboot.
restore it
that might work?
or erasing the data from the apps might work too

I thought the same thing, but it was definitely MoboPlayer causing it for me. It went away when I uninstalled, and returned immediately when I reinstalled it. I emailed the dev and he fixed it.
If you have Titanium Backup, under the Backup/Restore tab, you can tap the "ordered by" header to sort by install date.
When this happens the easy fix is to go task manager and shut all programs it will reset for you your settings np. This happens to me occasionally when my 4yr old plays with my phone, somehow she jacks it up and erases some the launchers like the phone, etc. So, I found this restores easily.
The problem was ADW.Launcher Free. Without it, things seem alot more stable.
I have a solution
I was struggling with this very issue. I thought it was due to partially corrupt system data. I installed another ROM, from scratch, rebuilt it to my specifications, then added a different launcher once again (different one this time). Rebooting resulted in the default lost and also all widgets showing with an "error loading widget" message in their place.
I finally figured out what was going on. It's because I had selected the option "move to SD card" as the default when installing applications. So, the launcher was on the SD card. Well, this creates a problem with timing, because the SD card is prepared a little later on in the boot process, after the required time to load the launcher. The result? Android draws up the default launcher. And for some reason, the older launcher ends up compromised with some of its default settings.
Once I moved my launcher app back to phone memory, the problem went away.

[Q] P500 forgets desktop/APN settings on reboot

Hi Guys,
I installed GB_2.3.3_v1.2 and it's been running great, I notice now when I reboot, my default widgets that I remove/trash come back on the main screen and custom app icons disappear as well as my APN settings get wiped.
I noticed this started happening after I installed a startup modification app that someone mentioned on here but has since been uninstalled since it didnt do much, Is there anyway to stop this happening or should I wipe/reinstall the mod?
I was running v2 but had major battery drain problems so i'm back to v1.2 and i'm happy as apart from this issue!

I think your launcher app in on the SD card. If so, move it to the phone memory and try again. I'm not too sure whether this is the reason.

Hi,
I had a look through the SD card and there's nothing obvious I can see.. I think this weekend I might just reinstall the mod, I understand the android system but not so much the inner workings, even though it's unix based (I'm a unix nut)

[Q] How to correct long startup times?

Hi, I have an AT&T atrix running the CherryPi ROM with stock kernel and I have been overall very happy with it aside from two kinks.
1. Boot time is very long (over a minute and half) despite having bloatware frozen and startup apps cut to a minimum.
2. I can't receive MMS messages at all.Never mind.
I'm not all that concerned with MMS, but I've been considering installing Faux's kernel in hopes of a performance boost. I don't really want to overclock, though. I fixed this with some APN changing... Still ridiculous that I went months without MMS though.
Could my ROM be at the root of my problems?
If not, what kind of a performance gain would I be able to get with the optimized 1ghz kernel?
Would I have to wipe any data to install a different kernel? I answered this one myself.
Thanks.
Edit: I installed the kernel (wiped cache and dalvik cache) and further cleaned on bloatware, still taking over a minute to boot.
All this points me to a new/final question. Would CM7 yield a significant performance boost (say, boot times under 1 minute) without overclocking? It did absolutely. I installed CM7 and Faux's stopgap 1ghz kernel (which did say something about EXT4), my phone now boots in 20 seconds. That's over a minute of improvement from what I originally had. Topic can be closed/marked as solved.
Format your Rom to ext4 and it will increase speed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282691
Thanks for the information!
I'm downloading the fingerprint scanner enabled CM7 and doing a fresh install of everything. Would this script have any wonky side effects? I am a noob to android, but not to partitioning and filesystems. I've never seen a conversion go well that wasn't FAT16 to NTFS....
Edit: Installed CM7. It's so fast, it has so many features that I have been wanting. Wow is all I can say lol.
Id like to know what I can do about this on my stock gb only rooted atrix. I don't want to unlock my bootloader or use any custom roms. My startup time is about 4 1/2 to 5 minutes from time I press power button to time everything is loaded. I have not uninstalled any bloat but have frozen all social apps and authenticators and live wallpapers. Any ideas?

In order to make it Ext 4 you have to have bootloader unloked and rooted.firat install the rom or if you already have its ok too.flash faux 123 kernels(any of them you want)
Go to cwm(it better to use RomRacers latest) and wipe cache and dalvik.
Do a nandroid backup for good measure.
Once this is done you install the ext4 script zip and that's it.
Reboot and check it out.if you get FCs then uninstall the apps that are force closing and go to cwm and fix permissions, then reinstall apps.
this makes your phone realky nice and fast, honestly I didn't have any apps force closing you have to follow the directions in the thread.
You will see your nandroid backup was ext3 and now you're ext4
If you decide later on to wipe dalvik or chache it might revert it back to ext3 if so just simply run the scrip zip again hope it helped
There is a root app called Autostarts that I think you will find useful.

Optimize Toolbox works great also. Just that in the latest version the language is not English anymore, (should get updated sometime to fix this). Lucky I remember what all the icons do and can use it blind! Finding an older version of this app in English will work.
The most current "lite" version is in English. It doesn't have the auto optimizer, but you can still manage autostart apps and log boot times.
(I'm thrilled, by the way, CM7 is booting in 19 seconds with all of my old apps restored. This is like having a brand new phone. We can mark this as solved on my part.)

I can understand that for sure. It does do exactly what it says and works great on the Atrix. But like was pointed out above there are other apps that do the job and potentially w/o the price tag, I just haven't used them and so I can't speak on them. I would try to get the English version of the app that was mentioned and see if that works first (if it's a free app?..)

I have Autostarts also, and it does in fact work as stated. I have just come to like Optimize Toolbox instead, and yes, it's free.
The biggest reason I never gave OT a try is cause there are 4 dif versions of it in the market and also because the cover art used to be not in English, and now that I know the app itself isn't in English either I'm even more turned off of it. However I know it is a popular app cause it was requested for the root apps list and I added it. I guess I'm just too ethnocentric to get past the whole developed in a dif language thing..

Widgets Broken After ROM Flash

Alright, so long story short: I tried the landscape mirroring mod, it screwed up my phone in the worst way, I reflashed Aura to get rid of it, and now my widgets fail to load after I restart my phone. I've tried GoLauncher EX and Zeam so far, and both seem to have the same issue. I could probably reflash (again) to solve the problem, but I'm curious what's causing this and if there's a more direct solution. So, any thoughts?

Try clearing cache and dalvik
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I did that prior to flashing, as is normal, and twice afterwards for good measure after you suggested it. Whatever the problem is has yet to be fixed.
Have you tried fixing permissions? I had a similar problem with widgets, and fixing permissions, rebooting and then reloading the widgets fixed it for me. Good luck.
Alright, I just finished trying that and unfortunately it didn't work. I guess I'll just reflash some time tomorrow.
Did you fix permissions from ROM Manager or from CWM?
I had these issues with Blur ROM's and fixing permissions was the way to go, but it never seemed to work properly in CWM, so I always used fix permissions in ROM Manager.

[Q] SGS2 with CM9 Freezes suddenly. ROM problem?

I periodically find my phone in a frozen state/shut down (at least once a day or during the night)
I have the latest nightly CM9. I'm wondering if the freezes are caused by the ROM or i have some hardware problem or an rouge app or something.
Is there a way to see a log history of all processes so i could pin down what's happening just before a freeze? is there a better way to do this?
Thanks all

The biggest problem in cm9 is when you set your voltages/cpu too low, this can cause your device to lock up when turning it on again/opening lockscreen. Another problem which is usually the case is that you have a misbehaving app. The easiest way to counter these little niggles I have found is to do a complete wipe, format your sd card, format system etc, then attach sgs2 to pc via usb, mount your sd card and transfer cm9rom.zip to sd card. Only then flash your cm9 to your sd card in recovery after unmounting and disconnecting from pc of course. This lets you kind of narrow down the problem as you will know that you do not have any files/folders/apps from a previous rom install that are causing issues. I always do this when installing a rom, even if it is just a nightly update, since I used to get problems like yours, I do this now and have 98% less issues. But what I think you have most likely done is to underclock your device too greatly. Also, if you are using cpu profiles, make sure you are not setting screen off profile too low, otherwise it will most certainly freeze on open. Anyways, cover these bases and you should be golden. It is not a rom problem.
