Hi guys I'm on bionix 3 with JACs OC kernel with the latest voodoo and color fix installed. Since I installed the newest kernel my rotation has stopped working in all my apps. I downloaded an app to test my orientation sensor, everything is set to 0. I also dropped my phone after I installed the kernel so maybe that could be the reason...any ideas? Is there a way to test if items software or hardware related? If it is damaged hardware, should I unhappy and go to t mobile? any advice is greatly appreciated thanks!
Revert your phone to complete stock and see if it begins to work again. If it doesn't, then your best bet is to bring it back to Tmo.

thanks ill try to remove the lagfix and ODIN back to stock.
if i were to take it to Tmo and the stock rom didnt fix it, would they replace it under warranty, you think?
I'm almost positive they will replace it. Just don't tell them you dropped it!

Happened to me, requested a new phone because it would not orient even after wiping.
So I get the new vibrant and go to town and wipe again, removing superuser su busybox, when in one app I realize it orients....
It had been on lagfix and orientation worked. I moved it to ext2 on sdcard, orientation worked.
So I blame an app or something else I have not redone on this replacement.
Btw check your compass, stuck at north too isn't it?
Edit: Wasn't me knocking it off the couch if a wipe fixes it.....

some apps automatically put the phone in landscape, like the youtube app once you watch a video, but if you press back and get to the main youtube app page it will stay in landscape but it wont rotate to portrait at all until you get to the home screen which i have locked onto portrait....ill wipe and odin to stock and see what happens, but what did you t-mobile when you gave it to them? and how do exchanges work exactly? ive never done one before with a phone, do they switch you out right then and there or do they mail you a replacement?
Thanks guys for your suggestions =]

If you turn off auto orientation and exit your media apps, phone is in portrait, makes it more usable until you wipe phone.
I am not sure the stores do it past the 2 weeks, you call tmo and they might ask you to try things until they send you a new phone via ups, you put old one in a box and put the return label on and drop it off at a ups store to send it back, if you take more than 7 days, you get to pay for the replacement
pretty painless process unless you are impatient and say sure, charge me $21 for express shipping.
hm ODIN'd back to stock, works like a charm, thanks guys! must have had a bad flash or something...

doubtful, it's something else, i have not flashed anything since the update.zip to root it, and it failed to orient long time after that, wish i knew what did it

Hmm that is strange, but there were a lot of weird things happening when I had the rom and kernel combo I had before. I had long wake up lag, intense battery drain, and no rotation, but I odin'd, rooted, flashed the same things again and everything works fine now, I even titanium restored some apps and settings ran fix permissions and nothing weird happening yet. Idk what could have caused it before...
My accelerometers are very flaky -- I have been assuming it's related to my nearly-useless compass and my completely non-functional GPS. I use "Digital Speed" whenever I drive my '55 (which has a broken speedo cable at the moment) and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Completely random, even after a fresh reboot.
Same problem here. Running Bionix 1.4. First noticed a problem when I installed a game that needed tilt to operate, it wouldn't work. Then I checked and the homescreen won't flip. Test apps show "no data" or "INIT" and no actual values for the sensors. I'm using the OC Voodoo version, is this a common thread with the problem?
Don't restore system setting from backup. It can kill the orientation. This is my experience.

Didn't.
I upgraded to Bionix 1.5 without Voodoo and the problem is gone. I thought maybe the 1.5 update fixed it, but another user is reporting the problem while on 1.5. I believe the Voodoo kernel is to blame at this point.

A full wipe worked for me, then again i never used anything too crazy. His experience suggests you should try it, oddly enough for me running the calibration tool, the error message talked about a stale nfs file
Reminds me of deleting battery statistics to reset the battery meter on other phones......and the full wiping/odin flashing nukes it.
Everything works fine on the replacement too with the same apps and fixes (minus lag fix) as before (orientation working wasn't found to be working before i already got a replacement on order :/ ), only thing i hate is gmaps 4.5.1 causing a load of 8.x+, enough to once get everything killed (uptime did not change although everything was reloaded, media was scanned as if it had rebooted) and a shut down the other time.
I'm getting a force close error on com.android.settings any time I try to access the Display settings menu. This thread seems to indicate that a font is to blame, but I only have one font installed (Felbridge FlipFont) and uninstalling it didn't fix the issue.
I use Handcent, which allows you to see all the fonts on your system; several apps have their own fonts, but I don't think they appear in the font picker so I don't think they're to blame. (I've tried uninstalling a few to see if that helps.)
I am using official Vibrant 2.2, installed recently through ODIN. I seem to recall that all apps stayed put when I upgraded except the FlipFont, which I had to redownload. But again, uninstalling the font doesn't do anything, so I'm not sure it's the issue. I'm not rooted either, and I'd be willing to if it would fix this, but I haven't found info yet on rooting froyo for the Vibrant. (I'd rather not root if the problem can be fixed without it...my G1 was rooted but I prefer not to root the Vibrant.)
What else besides a font issue might be causing FC on the Display menu?
ETA: This odd language issue wasn't it either, though that is from the Oxygen ROM discussion area.
I've had that problem on past ROMs, had nothing to do with fonts. My first idea would be to try and fix permissions in ROM Manager or Clockworkrecovery but since you arent rooted I guess those arent options. Only other option I see is to reflash the ROM.
Just reflashed in ODIN and it didn't work. I am going to see about rooting, because I have no idea what else to do!
What rom are you running? Are you installing any themes over top of it?
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
I'm running KA6, straight from Tmobile. I am using ADW.Launcher and I have a couple of themes installed for it, is that what you mean? I've already tried uninstalling ADW but I didn't uninstall the themes. Will try that now.
I'm fully rooted now, FWIW...first thing I did was kill off the startup sound!
ETA: Removing themes didn't help (if that was even what you meant)
ETA (again): Fix permissions through ROM Manager didn't fix it either. I can't imagine what it would be at this point. Someone on the Tmo forums suggested that perhaps I had uninstalled the font I was using, and I should reinstall it - but I have and it didn't help.
I suppose as problems go, not having access to a single settings screen is minor; the phone is fine otherwise. But still...I'd like to have those settings.
ETA (three!): Found this thread on the Tmo forums where the person has the same problem I do. People suggested a font issue again; one person suggested a factory reset. The OP never replied to say if that worked, so I'm still exploring other options; I'm running Titanium Backup meanwhile in case I do have to reset.
Thanks for your continued thinking on the matter!
Well, this warrants another post, rather than editing.
Apparently I'm an idiot. Somehow I was set to use a font that I had uninstalled. As soon as I remembered having tested the font (refunded, didn't like it), I bought it again, reinstalled, and Display settings came up perfectly.
So it was a font issue. It cost me $1 to fix...oh well. Everything is fine now. Ha!
I have the same problem and am stuck with a FC. I had 5 fonts, uninstalled all 5 of them, no luck. Reinstalled them, yet no luck. After an uninstall, my current font theme did not change, so was wondering how I could change it without going to Settings->Display?
Hey Guys,
Having an issue that I just can't seem to figure out. First, my phone specs:
Running EB01 Modem & JT's EB01 Voodoo Kernel w/SuperClean 2.2 Voodoo, ASOP Lock, Power & Battery Mod (via Domush walkthrough).
Now the problem: my phone just shuts off completely when it feels like it and the only way to get it back on is to do a battery pull. Searched the forums and throught it might be the proximity sensor, but flashed it back to stock and it was fine. It seems to happen randomly. It's not the battery because each time i turn it back on it have plenty of battery life. I've tried freezing all my apps and it still does it as well.
Is there someting i'm missing? Anyone else have an idea?
Thank you in advance
My first suggestion is backup your apps and do a wipe wipe wipe. See if that corrects problem.

I had that happen a couple times as well with SC 2.1. I only ran it for a couple days before SC 2.2 came out. After flashing 2.2 over 2.1, and wiping the cache a couple times, I haven't had it happen again. Then again I only upgraded yesterday, so it may yet happen again. Time will tell.

So far so good....I wiped x3 everything (cache, davik, everything) and it seems to have worked. Thank guys. I'll let you know if it acts up again.
Come to find out it was a rom prob, fixed in the forums, called the sleep of death.

FWIW, I did not have the problem with 2.2, and now have upgraded to SC 2.4, and the issue still has not returned. It does seem like I have to hit the power button twice to wake it up once in a while, but it never fails to wake up.

It seems to have only happen when you do the steps in a certain order. It's all fixed with the patch.
Actually, it's NOT been fixed with the patch. If you read the thread, the people that thought it worked had it come back after a few hours of use. The only way I've been able to "fix" it thus far is to go back to the stock ebo1 rom. FWIW, the problem for me seems to resurface after I access any media. The first time was after I listened to music through Poweramp and the latest was after watching a video in media hub.

Hmm, I'll have to check it out....I went through my photos and it worked fine after that. I use Audiogalaxy so I don't have music on my phone. I'll go run a video and see if that triggers it. Good looking out JJRocker
This so far has been an issue that's really hard to find info for and it's driving me nuts...lol. So yeah, even though I'm far from being an expert, I'm trying my best to figure out what's causing it so that I can work around it or better yet, help the devs out since they are the real experts here. Adrynalyne put a test patch up and asked people to report on it, so it would probably help a lot if everyone having the problem would post their results in this thread. He's the guy that's probably most likely to figure this out. Also, that link has the patch if you want to give it a shot.
One thing I should probably mention is that at least in my case, once the SOD surfaces, it happens about every 4th to 5th wakeup until I reflash the rom or go to another one. So if you've experienced it already, there's a good chance you won't be able to cure it without a reflash.
Ive noticed there is a certain population of folks who have it, and a larger population of those who do not.
I've been researching for hours on end, with no clear common resolution.
For some, not using Titanium to restore apps fixes it.
For some, my test patch works.
For some, a double reboot fixes it.
I had it happen once, ever, and it was on stock eb01. It never happened again. I myself have noticed increased instability on eb01 using maps and gps, however. A couple days ago, launching maps, and turning on the gps afterwards hard locked my device.
@adrynalyne
Exactly.
It seems that mine is fixed with the patch in both of your SuperClean 2.3 & 2.4, I've tried different media and it seems fixed. Only time will tell tho.
And thank you for all that you do with this phone. It had such great potenital and with you and folks like jt, it's making this phone amazing!
It's strange....I had it happen once this morning and now I can't replicate it. I have used Titanium to restore apps but I only restore one app, AndroidPit App Center. I need it to download ADW EX and Beautiful Widgets since they take PayPal and my debit card doesn't do foreign currency.
Anyway, someone at Android Central suggested avoiding ADW because people were reporting issues with the SOD and that launcher. So, I'm gonna run LP+ for a while and see how that works out.
I have been using ADW EX and no real problems...
...but I didn't think about it, I did clear out me Titanium Backup and just reDownloaded stuff this time. Maybe the backups are the culprit?
Well, right now I'm starting over on SC 2.4 and trying all the remedies I've seen posted thus far. I wiped data and cache, flashing SC 2.4. I'm going to skip the backup assistant since it might try to restore apps that were restored by Titanium. I'll run LP+ and flash a theme (VA green is my current fave...love the BA). Gonna restore my apps manually from the market and I'll even double reboot when I'm all done...lol. Anyway, wish me luck...the real test will be tomorrow at work. I use HandBase to keep track of things so I put my phone in and out of sleep a lot during the day.
And also, many thanks to Adrynalyne and all the other great devs here. The work put into this stuff is much appreciated. I wouldn't put this much effort into getting this working if SC wasn't such an amazing ROM.

When I redid it again my aps were automatically restoring themselves. So to save you some sanity, make sure you go into privacy and turn off "Backup my settings" and "Restore my settings" as well. It may be dimmed out, but it will sutomatically restore them as well. It's doesn't really do much from what I can tell (I still have to manually add passwords to wifis, which it says it backs up)
Ya know, maybe that's the cuplrit of this whole shabang
Ok, so I had the SOD on LP+ too. Out of curiosity, is anyone with this problem using Switchpro widget or another power control widget that changes brightness? The one thing that seems to always precede the SOD for me has been installing and putting this widget on my desktop. Also, one time I did have it before I installed the widget and checked my screen timeout settings...there was nothing checked which is the same as having the screen never turn off. Apparently, backup assistant restored the setting automatically from a previous flash. Also, I think Super Clean has a power control widget on one of the homescreens by default if I remember correctly. Everything was running great, couldn't get it to SOD, so I started installing some of my apps and put the switchpro widget on my main homescreen, and got SOD on the very next wakeup.
I believe I may have found my culprit!! But before I say, let me recap:
I backed up using TiB. Flashed everything back to DI01 and got the OTA update. Restarted, then flashed to DL09. Reboot, Flashed to Deoxed EB01. I also kept the origional kernel, didn't meess with it because I believed that it was the cuplrit, I am assuming I'm wrong. Everything was good. Slowly started adding programs back seeing which one will kill my phone. I finally found it......it was YouMail.
If you are using this product, you can have it on to your system and it will work. But as soon as it receives its notification of a New Voice Mail notification from their servers. It locks up. Hopfully uninstallation and a reboot will take it away, but only time will tell. I'll report back in.
Anyone experienced this weird problem before? After some use of about few min usage with 2 or more apps running, if the HOME button is pushed, it would reset the launcher and ask me to pick the default launcher again. I have ADW Launcher, Touchwiz, and LauncherPro. Everytime it does this by prompting "> Complete action using ...", I select ADW and checkmark "Use by default for this action." Some 10 - 20 min later, it loses the selection and ask me again even after reboot, uninstall, reinstall, same problem. I have stock froyo ROM, but rooted, with other kernels. I had latest supercurio kernel, it had same problem. I'm testing Overstock kernel, still same problem. The problem is not so bad, it is bearable as long as I don't press the HOME button. It just gets annoying and happened like 70% of the time of pushing that button. Anyone knows how to fix this? Danke.

I had a similar issue recently. It was an app (MoboPlayer) causing it. Every time I would long press the home button it would lose the default setting. The dev recently fixed it, but I'd suggest having a look at what apps you recently installed and do some testing.

Wait so you are saying an app can cause this? I thought the apps are chrooted (sandboxed) so can't really affect each other except for OS affecting them. What's the best way to figure out what was recently installed? I have lots. If none, I guess I can try uninstall all the apps...and reinstall just a few to see if that holds up.

Just a idea..
-Have Titanium backup.
Backup the launchers(keep 1 there though you need 1), if you have to save the data, save the data.
uninstall it.
reboot.
restore it
that might work?
or erasing the data from the apps might work too

I thought the same thing, but it was definitely MoboPlayer causing it for me. It went away when I uninstalled, and returned immediately when I reinstalled it. I emailed the dev and he fixed it.
If you have Titanium Backup, under the Backup/Restore tab, you can tap the "ordered by" header to sort by install date.
When this happens the easy fix is to go task manager and shut all programs it will reset for you your settings np. This happens to me occasionally when my 4yr old plays with my phone, somehow she jacks it up and erases some the launchers like the phone, etc. So, I found this restores easily.
The problem was ADW.Launcher Free. Without it, things seem alot more stable.
I have a solution
I was struggling with this very issue. I thought it was due to partially corrupt system data. I installed another ROM, from scratch, rebuilt it to my specifications, then added a different launcher once again (different one this time). Rebooting resulted in the default lost and also all widgets showing with an "error loading widget" message in their place.
I finally figured out what was going on. It's because I had selected the option "move to SD card" as the default when installing applications. So, the launcher was on the SD card. Well, this creates a problem with timing, because the SD card is prepared a little later on in the boot process, after the required time to load the launcher. The result? Android draws up the default launcher. And for some reason, the older launcher ends up compromised with some of its default settings.
Once I moved my launcher app back to phone memory, the problem went away.
I keep loosing my widgets after some reboot (not all). As far as I can see all of my widgets are installed on internal memory and not in the Media Area. Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you solve it. It's not a big issue, but it's super annoying to set up those widgets all of the time. BTW I am running Pi-Crust 0.5 with faux123 1.3.

Same issue here too.
The issue as far as I am aware has to do with bloatware. Depending on what bloatware was removed with whatever ROM yer using, your widgets may get affected. Also the problem could lie in whatever programs you're freezing / uninstalling with Titanium Backup or whichever program you use to freeze / uninstall system shtuff.
i just have stock gingerbread except unlocked with faux's kernel and not bloatware frozen/removed
I am on alien build 3 with nothing frozen, faux123's 0.1.3 kernel and I have had this a couple of times.
Same issue running Faux's on Ninja SF.
Same here i am on the starwars rom.

Regardless, upon rebooting after fixing permissions all my widgets were deleted so I don't think that was the solution

Works for me. I don't set up my widgets then fix permissions. I fix permissions after restoring all my apps, and before dropping widgets on the home screens. If you set up your widgets first, you will likely lose them on reboot, but then after you set them up again, you should not have the issue recur.
I was losing my widgets every 1-2 days before I started doing this. It's part of my ROM installation routine now, just like wiping.
Hopefully Fixed it

bad that I could not back the widgets that were. a "sticker" was the necessary information, most likely it was lost. Now I do not trust any information storage widgets. All I will write at least a text file. too bad ...
