Ive been using ad free andriod since Ive been on Cyanogenmod and its been fine for the most part. Problem is every now and then instead of blocking the ads I get a page cannot be displayed error with a link in it. The problem with that is when that comes up it takes up the entire page of the app and then I cannot use the app becasue if I try to scroll down to where I need to be I actually click on the link its trying to send me to no matter where I touch the screen. So at that point it kinda defeats the purpose of having an ad blocker becasue it renders my app useless. Any ideas on how to fix that?
What ROM/version are you running?
Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling Ad Free?
Have you tried fixing permissions?

There is ad appears on the bottom of the screen of my Eris, see attachments. I've been trying to remove it by factory reset in the privacy setting. Wiping data and reinstalling new ROM couldn't get rid of it. It's driving me nut for few days. Can someone help me to get rid of it? I'm appreciated for any help.

Sounds like those apps just use ads for the free versions, that's supposed to be how they look. You can use AdFree for Android on the market to block ads. I used to use it but I don't bother any more.
The above post is correct. Some apps use ads to help support them and keep the app free. (Click a few ads every now and then if you like the app, it helps support them). Doubtful its spyware. Its very unlikely you will download a malicious app of the android market (though not impossible.)

Thank you for your replies
The reason I thought it was spyware that I don't see any ad in my wife Droid 1, which is rooted with Bugless Beast V.6. Users in other forum think that my wife phone custom ROM blocks the ads. Thanks
That's probably what it is. I know some roms already have ad blockers in place.

Was using Rom Manager to boot into recovery and it asked for my name, e-mail and postal code for something. It said if I were to provide this info it would remove ads and unlock some feature so foolishly I did without thinking twice. However the ads are still there and I'm worried now.
I would like to know this also.
Sounds like you have Malicious Software on your device to me!
This also happened to me

I would think it could glean that data from my device without requesting. I figured Rom Manager and CMW are such mainstays of the community that it was legit.
E-mailed developer, will post if I receive an answer.
Are you sure you didn't accidentally touch an ad? I think I saw that before.... when I accidentally touched an ad in a different app.

I didn't pay close attention but can recall a form popping up within rom manager, offering to remove ads and unlock some feature for filling it out with that information. It has happened to others in the thread so that seems unlikely, I tried clicking an ad in Rom Manager and that did not do what you suggested.
You did get it from the android market right? I no longer use rom manager but never recall seeing it

I believe I installed clockworkmodrecovery and it appeared along with it. I've removed it and reinstalled from the android market just in case something funny occurred.
It has popped up again upon reinstalling Rom Manager, it was the update notification feature. For some reason it didn't remove banner ads but hey that's what Adfree Android is for amirite?

Yep (or a rom which is already ad free).
To be honest I don't either but then I stopped using it months ago when it became pointless
... Done!
For me its quite an improvement because the browser doesnt load all the crap that is embedded on many websites!
I've personally used Adblock for a long time, but yeah, same idea. I plan on rooting my TP tonight, almost solely for ad blocking.
EDIT: Whoops. I use AdFree, not AdBlock.

i also used adblock, but adaway seems really nice and has more options. you should try it!
+1 to this or any other ad removing software.
When I rooted under HC, it was the first thing I installed after superuser.
I'm agree that ads can be a pain.. but please think that those are part of how android developers who offers free apps in the market get some money for their work. I'm not saying no to do it, just Think about it.

Honestly, the ads are more of an issue in the browser for me, but I get your point. Personally, I regularly purchase the paid ad-free version of apps that I love rather than using the free version and removing the ads.

ads in most android apps are ok i think, the ads on many websites are just ridiculous! i'm always shocked when looking at websites on a computer that doesnt have adblock installed, on some sites this great plugin makes the site at least readable!
i agree that app devs are suffering from those methods and i wish there was an app like adaway that blocked only browser ads, but there isnt (at least to my knowledge)....
Hey folks, I'm rooted, have busybox, but am having trouble getting AdAway to work properly on my TFP. It ends up telling me that the Applying failed -- "Applying the hosts file to your system failed"
It tells me that I should try changing the target location of the hosts file, but I've tried both and nothing works. Is there a special/custom location to the target file?

I have seen this error several times, then it fixes hours later. I often think the server(s) that AdAway is pinging to get the host files are down or busy or overloaded or just not stout enough for the traffic so we get these errors. Try again later. I do, and it always works out.

Some of the logic in here is funny... It is okay to block ads on the web - still taking money out of someone's pocket - but not as "cool" to block them on your phone because then a "dev" loses out. Please. Hypocrisy at it's finest. Someone on the web or a dev on a mobile device putting ads in the GUI are all open season and no one gets a pass any more than the other.

2 questions:
- do you have superuser installed?
- do other root apps work? (you can test root access with "ota root keeper")
If he is getting that error, he is properly rooted. He could not get that error without the app running and for the app to run, you need root.
It is not a root issue as I pointed out in the last page, I have seen this before numerous times, it is very much likely an error with the app getting access to the servers with the host files to download. Time has always fixed it for me. Saw it last night, today all worked fine.
Trying this now. So with this it isnt necessary to do the about:debug option with the browser setting thats posted below?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411438&highlight=browser
Just installed, applied it and rebooted. Seems to be working good so far. Will out iit throught the paces to see.
Is this a set n leave alone app or do you constantly need to go in and update the host files or sources or whatever?
Browser does seem faster though...
I have been using a clock program called wf & clock widget for a few months on my p500h and it has been running fine, no popups. Recently I decided to install tape a talk and I have been getting a lot of full screen popup ads. I uninstalled tape a talk but the popup ads persist when I check the weather with wf & clock widget. I have used some antiviral antimalware programs but it is unable to find anything.
I have a rooted phone with permissions programs and the sort. I just want to know how this weather program may have gotten infected from a dev point of view . As of this moment, I am unable to get rid of the problem.
Download from the market - airpush detector
MoPhoACTV Initiative
I ran airpush detector and it did not find anything. Is it possible that tape a talk installed something into another application? I didn't think android apps could do that.
As long as you got the app from the android market then no. If you got it from a non sucure site then it is possible
Interesting, although I cannot believe it. Many people who have downloaded the tape a talk free version have had the same problem. I hope I do not need to reset my phone in order to change things back to normal.

Believe it. Android apps can be used to install apps that you know nothing about. Mai ly if your rooted or got the app from non approved sites. You should never install apps that you are not sure are clean like the ones from trusted markets or here.
And I just checked as u didn't think tapatalk offered a free version. And I couldn't find one. Where did you get it?

You could try an alternative like virtual recorder. It has in app ads only and quality is very good. You can get it on market.
If it does what you want you can delete tape a talk then.
Alternatively if your android is rooted you can use lbe privacy guard to deny it permissions such as net access so it might not get ads pushed to it then.

Not tapatalk, but 'tape a talk'. I only get apps from the official android market. Take a look at the feedback regarding the ad problem.
Normally I would not be asking about this kind of problem on this forum, and I thank everybody for the replies. I am mostly just curious about how this sort of problem can occur and how these apps can affect other apps, even ones that are apparently trusted and from trusted sources. You can never really trust a developer fully - I purchased the first Android phone available and have seen countless developers screw over their app users. It's really too bad since there are so many good developers out there too and it's hard to tell the difference.

The tapatalk forum app, as opposed to tape a talk recorder, although commercial can be legally used free from getjar.com.

Is anyone else having issues with XDA's site loading in Google Chrome? For the past few days I have had to use Explorer to get the web page to load without force closing.

Yes, I've had the issue on multiple machines. Sometimes it works just fine then it'll lock up and I have to close the tab and relaunch it.

I don't use the app because it's easier to read/reply on the web. Plus it makes it look like I'm working

Funny! Yes, can't exactly have your face in your phone too often while working.
I wonder what the issue is? This has only been a recent problem but I'm willing to bet it's on the Google Chrome side of it. Never had issues in the past.
mine hangs on when launching the site sometimes, I've noticed the same thing happens with droid-life occasionally too. Could be an issue with an ad loading.
Site has been having technical difficulties also causing extreme slow downs in the mobile apps.
