Im having problems. I tried to install clockwork recovery from here http://ilikemygooglephone.com/2010/...-streak-for-windows-mac-linux-andorid-2-12-2/ and now im stuck on the dell logo. I seen posts about using the upgrade.pkg but want to ask for more info before doing anything.
I suggest that you use StreakMod Recovery. Some possibly helpful links:

Everything's been smooth so far in regards to my vibrant modification but I noticed something today that might cause problems in the future
Im running stock rom with kingxkernel 3 and ryans oclf
I can get into clockwork recovery through rom manager without a problem (that's how I've been doing it) but if I go into recovery mode using the hardware keys it brings me to the stock recovery..any suggestions? ??? I know in the very beginning I had to choose reinstall packages and then it showed up but I was afraid to do that again before asking in case it screws up my phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
clockwork recovery doesn't replace stock recovery on the vibrant.
If you manually enter recover, you have to do the "reinstall packages" part in the stock recovery which will then load the clockwork recovery.
Oh okay thanks for the reply!

Dont you still need the update.zip in there?

yes, you still need the clockworkmod recovery file (aka update.zip) in order to load clockworkmod recovery.

You have to select reinstall packages, and it will go to the blue recovery again, then press reinstall packages again and clockwork should boot up everytime.
So i just have to keep on reinstalling packages until cwm works?? I think i will lose my superuser etc.. What zip file do i have to put on my intrnal card?

Once u are rooted you done need update.zip for root
What if i already rooted my phone using super one click root on my froyo 2.2? Do I still have to update? By update.zip?

After you used super one click root, delete that update.zip file that it places in your internal memory.
Then download rom manager, click flash clockwork-mod recovery and it should say boot into the blue recovery. In there click reinstall packages, and if it takes yiu to the blue screen again, click reinstall packages one more time and you should boot into clockwork from now on.
Ok thank you master and slave one more question do I still have to install the unzip thing from my internal sd? Or not a any more?

Since you are on 2.2, you need the modified 3e recovery. Then you should be able to get into CWM.
Or you can just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 and Odin back to 2.1 and not have any issues updating your ROM.
Reading all the guides helps alot with these questions.

The method I was giving you was for 2.1
Its easier to root from 2.1.
But the thread above should help
Another route around 3e recovery is to use a Voodoo kernel, because those have CWM baked right in. I recommend this because for whatever reason I couldn't get modded 3e recovery working.

No matter what i do i cant get clockworkmod recovery flashed. my streak is running stock 347, 00 ROM
1. I tried through ROM manager and it says it worked flashing 2.5.0.7 then if i try and boot into recovery it boots dell recovery or if i try backup i just reboots normal and no backup is created?
2. I tried through terminal but after i enter su, then flash_image recovery/sdcard/"name".img i get recovery image not found
3. i cant do fast boot since i use ubuntu and i have searched and not really found a good walk through for that?
Thanks any help would be amazing.
Why dont you ask your question in the clockwork thread?
Also, you need not post the same question in multiple sub_forums.

u have to use the recovery.alt image.
also remember that if u r on stock rom, every time u restart cwm recovery will be over written

not being funny i have checked the official forum for the clockworkmod streak and it doesnt help. i have just accepted to stay on streakmod recovery and it would be nice one day for someone to give a full tutorial and problem solved issues for everyone trying to install clockworkmod

I've flashed everything properly and I'm able to boot into streakmod immediately after flashing. However, upon rebooting the phone, going into recovery mode will not take me to streakmod. It will only take me to the stock Dell recovery page (where I can restore or press volume to power down).
Why does this only work immediately after flashboot and not afterwards?
Thanks in advance.
This is on 354 btw.

When you reboot the phone it's supposed to take you to the stock DELL recovery. You choose the option to install update.pkg and then when you see the DELL logo with a yellow exclamation point you press the power button again and it will take you to Streakmod.
Now, if you are using a stock ROM, then you have to use a file manager that gives you root access (such as Root Explorer) to your internal SD card and rename a file called "install-recovery.sh", located in \system\etc (can't remember exactly where it is) and rename it to install-recovery.sh.bak. Then flash Clockworkmod or Streakmod again and you should be good to go

Yeah, it works fine after rebooting through flashboot, but after that the streakmod page will not load up...it will simply take me back to the stock DELL recovery.
I'll try this fix though...thanks!
Stock roms overwrite the recovery after every boot. That's why is works once after flashing. You'll have to run a custom rom to maintain a coustom recovery. Sorry :-(

You do not have to run a custom rom to use a custom recovery. You do have to root your phone so that you can rename the file install-recovery.sh located in the folder /system/etc/ so that it does not run every time you boot your phone. I use stock 351 and the recovery-v0.3.2.7-DoctorWFix.zip version of StrekMod Recovery so I can make nandroid backups. The latest version of MultiRecovery Flasher will install this version.

I tried installing cwm with rom manager and when I attempt to boot into recovery I am at the android screen with a triangle. I then used rom manager to flash rom racers cwm and I thought it was successful but I got the same screen when booting into recovery. So I used goo manager to flash TWRP. Same issue when booting into recovery. I am unlocked and rooted. Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?

Here's an idea - stop using ROM manager!
How about you try flashing recovery using more traditional methods, like fastboot? That hardly ever fails.

I'm was just following the directions in the thread for installing cwm. The directions are dated since this is an older device. That's why I asked the question. TWRP is the recovery of choice for me on my GS II.

Did you delete (or backup) install-recovery.sh from /system/etc? If not, then that is most likely causing your problem. See the "Miscellaneous" section of this 2nd post from romracer's thread.
