First off I know this info is elsewhere but I just need a little clarification because other threads seem outdated or incomplete.
So I have my gf's verizon fascinate rooted and what I want to know is after I use Odin with the CWM 3.xxx w/Voodoo file,
I need to install a voodoo kernel? And if I don't want to use Voodoo, I need to create a Disable-lagfix text file? And in another thread, I saw something about Voodoo-compatible modems, is the stock ota modem which was updated recently ok?
I really appreciate any clarification, I've used Odin on my friends captivate but only had to use an update.zip for CWM and I've rooted all 4 androids I've owned.

So I'm really new to custom ROMs and recoveries, and I have a few questions. I already flashed ClockworkMod, but if I want to get rid of it, is deleting the update.zip all I have to do? And if I were to make a backup and then flash a custom ROM, but decided to go back to my recovery, it would be exactly like it was before flashing the custom ROM, correct? I think that's about it, thanks for taking the time to read and answer.
First flash the correct kernel (2.1 or 2.2 ) of the one used for your backup. Then restore. Then delete update.zip
After that it will be how you had it

I think in this case doing you would also need to reset the phone and do a cache wipe as well then reboot and it would see as stock
So how would I get my hands on the stock kernel and flash it?

which kernel are you trying to install?
there is a new kernel, that you can flash through recovery, all the older kernels out there must be pushed through ADB.

Nope. Just install and go! As a heads up: It's usually preferable to make a backup using ClockworkMod Recovery/ROM Manager before installing anything.
Well I have a backup of my stock ROM already. Should I let it back up my custom ROM as well? Will that erase the stock backup?

yeah you should prob take a backup of your current setup. the whole idea is that anytime you install something, you should have a backup in case the install goes bad (rarely does though). having a backup of your stock ROM is fine in a last resort kinda way. but i'm sure you'd rather restore right back to your custom ROM should something happen.

So if im coming from GingerBlur V4.5, how exactly would i do this? Would i open this up and click "Flash CWM recovery" and go from there? Im just curious if this will wipe my phone and reinstall Gingerblur (if i choose), or just another ROM i have stored, or do you have to get the ROMs from the app?
And are all ROMs compatible? Or do they have to be compatible w/ this version of CWM? Sorry for the newb questions...

I think the CWM it installs is for unlocked phones only. So you'd have to unlock your phone first, I believe, in order to flash ROM Manager's CWM.
As for installing all ROMs, it's CWM. So it should be able to install anything. After all, the ROMs are really just pre-boot install scripts, for the most part. The free version of ROM manager has the option to install zips from the internal SD only (as per comments in this thread). It also lists a subset of ROMs, but it looks like it throws an error right now.
cant fastboot flash recovery partition after Rom mngr recovery install
tried to flash back to tenfars recovery after flashing cwm thru rom manager..failed. should i reflash pudding and then try..? or...?
If you install recovery through ROM Manager, the full wipe option does not actually wipe anything. You can still do a wipe by utilizing the -w command via moto-fastboot then install via recovery.

As this is an mtd rom, you should be fine flashing this over CM7 in recovery. You may be able to get away with just wiping cache/dalvik, but you may need to wipe data, unsure about that. Probably best to wipe all 3.
Great job on this build. This rom is ridiculously fast and I usually replace Launcher2 with any new rom install, but this version is so smooth I may just keep it.

I definitely agree with you usually I wipe data. I notice less issues when I wipe data. I know people just don't want to reinstall their apps but if you got a backup with titanium it takes like five minutes to reinstall apps.

if you don't have it down to quickly rebuild your phone from scratch, what have you been doing all this time flashing roms? titanium backup all apps and app settings and restore after you set the phone back up, takes 10 minutes!

Hi there, I just started flashing a couple months ago and all is great. When I first started flashing I used cwm to flash a ROM. I would clear data then clear cache then afterwards flash the ROM and would work flawlessly.
Now as I try to do that (trying to flash a brand new ROM), Everytime I try to cleardata or cache on cwm my phone would freeze there, therefore I couldn't properly set up my phone for a new ROM.
Any ideas or solution I can do to fix this? Greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
