Hi Guys,
Im currently using CM7 nightly build 20 and noticed that my modem was still in I9100XXKG2
Now i hear the latest modem is KG6 and is supposed to address some battery issues.
How do I go about upgrading it without screwing my custom rom over? Previously before i popped on CM7, Samsung KIES would handle it all for me.
I have a i9100XXKG6.zip with Code file, CSC File, Kernel file, modem file and PIT file
Do I just use Odin in (vol down, home + power) to flash just the modem file and then re-root with superclick?
Thanks!
Easiest way is to use codeworkx radios in rom manager. You can flash that over your existing radio without messing up your CM rom.

There is a sticky thread with every radio, download the one you want and flash via odin
Or if you have rom manager premium they are all available via that.
Just so you know, the radio version that's best is very region dependant

Thanks! That was slot easier than I thought.
Three cheers for clockwork tomorrow manager!!

I want to install a new modem, but I'm going to be running an older kernel than the modem. Will this combo work fine?
I run the opposite. I match my modem to the carriers firmware, and flash back modem after the ROM and kernel. No problems with speed or connectivity. You can only try....

Any modem can run with any rom.

Yes but sometimes Modem must be compatible with the Android build...
try
so you can try and if the new modem isnt work on older rom then reflash old modem too
Yep, pretty simple really. Extract modem from Intratech firmware thread and flash with Odin, our search for some of the CWM flashable modems. Try and test......

Is there any way to tell before flashing?
Hey Galaxy SII people, I need some help with a friend's SII.
I'm quite knowledgeable with custom ROMs and recoveries, but I have no idea what to do with a stock phone.
The phone is rooted and not getting the OTA to ICS. I want to get the OTA, losing root not necessarily a problem.
Can someone give me a hand with this? I have no idea what I need to do.
The phone also has the stock recovery.
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a conclusive, comprehensive answer.
Go to samfirmware and download the update firmware and install it via odin.
All the best.

Flash stock ROM from http://samfirmware.com/ via Odin. Search for galaxy S2 ROMs, just make sure you don't download the dangerous ROMs (the ones with a warning triangle next to them).

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm downloading a zip now. I flash this with Odin/Heimdall? I thought I needed a .tar and a bunch of other files to flash with Odin.
This won't keep root, right? Is there any way I could get root back after flashing?
Also, will this wipe /data?
Oh, and I have the option to download a ROM for a specific carrier. Does that mean I can't use another carrier?
Edit: While I'm at it, is the stock recovery needed for anything stock ROM related?
Yes download will be in the form of a zip file, once downloading is complete you can extract the tar. file and place in the PDA section of odin. This will not wipe your device, well never has done for me. Yes you will loose root as you have a completely new rom with stock kernel. See the guide for rooting your chosen firmware. As for the carrier i always use the unbranded /open version as this has less bloat ware. All the best.

Make sure you don't have repartition button ticked or play with the pit file if you don't 100% know what you're doing either

Hi my friend has sold his phone and needs to get back to stock kernel from siyah 4.1.5. Is this possible without use of pc.
Many thanks
Kieron

I think you can use mobile ODIN and flash a new firmware there.
Thanks was hoping there was a simpler way as he only just managed to flash a rom. Is it possible to flash a stock kernel through siyah.
Thanks
Kieron

23732 is right. But to make it more precise - open your stock TAR rom file in mobile odin (all partitons in the app will be filled in). Then clear all of them but kernel. Then flash only the kernel partition. No need to flash anything more to come back to stock kernel.
I have this problem: with stock CM 10.1 installation files, sometimes people are not able to call me and I am not able to call others. I only can fix this by restarting my I9100 or turning on and off airplane mode.
I asked about this issue in this forum, and one man recommended to install custom modem. So I would like to ask, what kind of modem should I install in order to fix this problem?
Thanks.
You can try the app Getril, from the play store. However I'm not quite sure what is meant by a custom modem. There is a thread here that has modems matched to RILs but as yet non have been made for 4.2.1. I looked there this morning. All I can suggest is try a fully clean installation or roll back to your previous rom.
All the best

By modem I mean that file which you choose when you install custom rom through download mode in odin's "modem" section.
I see, all the modems I've ever flashed were in zip format done via CMW. Sorry I can't be of further assistance.

Yup. On xda, you'll find that majority prefer the use of CWM recovery over odin since it doesn't increase the binary counter and is much easier. Simply download any modem for your device (which will be in a .zip format) and flash from recovery.
Remember that modems are not rom or android version specific. A gingerbread modem can be used with a jellybean rom.

By custom modem i thought he was referring to the modified modem/ril zip files that are better than those supplied by the Getril app. In that thread it states not use GB or ICS files with JB roms. Thread attached for your reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31416701

Before the release of the leak (XXLSJ), many were on cm10 (4.1.2) with older modems/rils, usually those of ICS. It does work, but maybe its not so optimised to work on JB? I dunno, I'm not that much of a technical expert...

Hi, I've been trying to update my Gingerbread I900 for a whole day now, but it's have been full with problems.
It all started when I tried to flash a CWM recovery for JB with Odin, that it made it so each time I tried to turn it on, the boot screen appeared, and then it turned off again, along with a triangle warning sign.
Now, I've tried everything I've found on the web, which caused a bootloop, which I solved by flashing Siyah kernel, but now I'm back at square one, where the bootscreen appears, and then it turns off.
Can anyone give me a hand?
Flash stock firmware with Odin to upgrade/fix. Or do you want custom rom?

I was thinking on using CyanogenMod 11, but at this point, I just want the phone to work, regardless of rom.
If I was you I would want custom stock rom installed. Cm is OK but eats battery compered to stock. Some custom stock roms have the cm/aokp look so you get the look but battery is still good. What do you want?
Easy fix is flash stock firmware from sammobile.com with Odin and that should sort it out and get it working.

OK, found one of my carrier, but I don't know where to put it (PDA, CSC, etc)
The file is called I9100UHMS8_I9100CHEMS3_I9100UHMS1_HOME.tar.md5, and it came in the zip file CHE-I9100UHMS8-20130503103606.
Do you know where should I put the file?
