[Q] Meh dropped my phone again - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So for the second time i dropped phone on the concrete portion of the road while getting out of the cab. I think it's time for me to invest in a bumper to prevent this from happening again
Before we move forward, is there any way i can get the casing replaced?
I was initially waiting for the 32GB version to pop up and sell mine for cheap but the last drop put a nice dent on the bottom right corner
Good news: Galaxy Tab 10.1 takes decent quick photos

That was my intention from the beginning to replace it with a 32GB version but 32GB version never came out. I may grind it out a little longer for the nexus prime assuming it does come with an AMOLED HD screen.

ah yeah.. my Dell Streak from back in the day (RIP, officially discontinued) came with a 16GB card.. so I use that.. I used to use my SGS II for media but I find the headset volume to be too low so I went back to using my Zune HD

that is an exspensive fix mate , the only way i could find to replace the silver bezel is to buy the screen with the bezel attached wich is about £80
you then have to fit the new screen etc
it was cheaper to sell my scratched sgs2 and buy a new one
i sold mine for £385 and got a new one for £445

Kicked out your girlfriend over an accidentally dropped phone? Youch.

Just get a nice cheap case to hide the damage until you sell and buy a new phone.
You'll feel better

Might wanna consider investing on case-mate tough case series.

Also dented the "silver" in a few places, and much to my own amazement I'm not too bothered! But will be buying a the thinnest blackest bumper I can find for future drops.

Please also post the drop related issues here,

Now that's what I'm talking about!
I have the official samsung on mine, the mesh type but it doesn't protect the top or bottom.
IV had several very lucky breaks so far because The phone is so thin and light IV been able to catch it between two fingers when almost dropping it on several occasions.
I only just noticed the metallic black bezel after reading this thread so it worries me a little more now that its not protected all the way around.

Flyer in the Philippines

Hi. As an owner of the HTC DHD, active in the "DHD in the Philippines" thread, I found threads like this to be useful in the enjoyment of our devices.
Lots of help and information have been passed around in that thread and I hope that there would be a Flyer community as well.
Anyone?
I just got mine the other day from Topelectronics, I must say that I'm absolutely loving the Flyer. I too am a DHD user as well
Nice to know I'm not alone. Haven't seen you in the Philippine DHD thread.
not a very active poster, I just read around, this is the first thread I'm really actively participating in.
Hi! I too own this awesome device. Bought mine in Singapore 3 weeks ago and it's the 3G version. And yeah, I'm from the Philippines... born and raised.
Seeing I travel there 4 times a year (but not filipino), I approve of this thread..
Flyer 3G owner here too....
Wow. Hope we get that S-Off soon. Things will really kick off then.
Hope leather cases and screen protectors are available locally...
Anyone having issues with their WiFi? I'm having trouble connecting with the WiFi on mine.

I don't think accessories will be available here anytime soon. I suggest you order your stuff from Amazon or something. Hehehe.

I tried putting it in my cargo pocket. When I got in my car, it slipped out and fell. Good thing I caught it. So I got a bag.
Flyer user in Manila too... 16Gb Wifi version. If anyone finds any cases around town for the Flyer, share info!

I'm using that same case for now... But it can get quite dirty since it's white. And I'm just using an iPad screen protector, cut to fit the Flyer. Hehehe.
I ordered screen protectors and a TPU case from Amazon. Hopefully it will still fit inside the white leather case. Let you know when it arrives next week.

Great! I'm looking for a matte screen protector as the screen is quite the smudge magnet.
I'm having these weird issues with my WiFi, I don't get a full bar of signal unless I'm right on top of the routers, it's strange since my Desire HD gets a full bar of signal even across the room. Already contacted HTC customer support... hrrrrmmmm. :/
I have a small PacSafe messenger which is an exact fit for 7"-10" Tablets and a small TUMI messenger that fits my Macbook Air 13" and snugly fits the Flyer in it's leather case or my XOOM and the Flyer in their respective sleeves, I also have a Booq Taipan Shadow XS.

You sir, are a gadget whore! Kidding. How does the Xoom's speed (HC + dual-core) compare to the Flyer's?
Maybe the Flyer has a weak WiFi receiver? I do notice that I sometimes get only 1 bar in parts of my house where I know the signal is good. I have to compare the Flyer side by side with my iPod Touch to find out. I'll keep you posted.

[Q] Fingerprint scanner tape peeling off

Hi guys. My Atrix was walking fine until today in class, I suddenly feel something going off the power button, when I check, a sort of black tape from the fingerprint scanner is peeling off. I'm not really sure what to do about this. I can't claim warranty since its a Korean Atrix, bought in Vietnam and using in Australia
What should I do with this ? peel it off and get a DIY fix or any other option ?

as in 2 sided tape ? if its normal clear tape then how can the scanner works then lol
Whatever you do do not peel it off you will ruin your scanner. This is what I did to fix mine. I took some of my girlfriend's fake nail glue and put a tiny drop of it in the tip of a pair of pointed scissors and put a tiny dab under the corner of the tape. Hold the tape down for about a minute till the glue dries. Don't use too much or it will lock up the button. Works like a charm.
Out of curiosity how long did it take for this situation to develop for you?
Mine was like It when I got it. Not from att tho. From a trade. I think the phone was only about a month old
My is around 2 month old. Thanks for the tip, will try it out
Aight let me know if it works for ya. Like I said just use a tiny tiny bit

Just curious, to those of you having this problem...do you store your phone in your pocket?
I have my Atrix in the otterbox defender with a belt clip, haven't seen this. I'm wondering if it is getting caught on something in your pockets?
Had this phone since the release date and do not have this problem.
I hate you people just looked at mine and noticed there's the tiniest bit coming off from one corner

I wonder if there is a replacement part available to be ordered online.
Got mine release day in US. Scanner was initially perfectly level but over time it became slanted. No issue with the tape peeling off though.
Slow down guys, the "slant" is quite common - and there's an old thread about that around here too.
The sticker peeling part of it, is uncommon... (and hopefully it stays that way)

+1
I remember that when the Atrix was first released, people were pooping kittens over the slanted button (here and in the Moto forums) until they realized pretty much everybody had the same issue.
If you look in this picture you can see where the cable is connected which in turn "holds" that end of the button down giving the appearance that it's "crooked" (source: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Atrix-4G-Teardown/4964/2 )

I don't have "tape" on my fingerprint scanner it had clear tape when itvcame out the box new but I took it off no big deal oh and I put it in an otter box case and it would get way too hot like 140+ so I took it out went with a bodyglove case and made vent holes in back of it ; )

I also can't see any tape on mine, and I've kept it in my pocket without a cover for 5.5months now with no problem, I've also used the fingerprint scanner frequently during that time.

Hi,
I just ordered the Incipio Samsung Galaxy S II NGP Case - Black from ebay
didn't want to comprise on the slim design of SGS 2
I don't get it ... I know the dimension is close to the same between international and att version but as far as speaker configuration isn't there a slight difference? Is the incipio you bought the att version or close enough?

If it fits a little loose, heat it up along the edges and it will help with minor manufacturing defects.
Haha, no, but good idea I didn't realize quite how large its gonna be though. Its gonna be nice to have all that screen, but I'm thinking 4.3" is gonna be the max for me. I was pleased with the captivate, but it got stolen so here we are going to the next best thing.

Next best thing? THE best thing. Does it have a notch on the side above the power button side (right)? I don't think the AT&T version has that. The International version does though.

Cracked case around speakers

it started cracking (from what i noticed) like, last week
yesterday, it's totally broken off
anyone else have a DIY fix? superglue i'm thinking
****sux because i had the touchpad inside the official case day 1 AND it doesnt get moved around often nor does it see heavy usage
i have a theory that the case actually helps increase the chances of the cracks because any vibration/pressure is transmitted somewhat equally around the touchpad so even if the speaker side was not touched, any other force small or big goes speaker side and will eventually crack
Why don't u contact HP Support? They will replace the case!
I have the same problem that you are having. I have my touchpad for about a week or so and it cracked between both speakers it really sucks. So what I did was used super glue to fix the problem it might not look the best it works for now. Its nice to find out that its just not me having these problems but it really sucks.
Sent from my GT-i9100 using xda premium
ya I know about the customer support replace, just wanted to get opinions on superglue approach before then because I'm sorta scared that my touchpad will get replace with a diff one or the screen gets scratched etc
if the super glue works I'll just do that
Don't do the superglue, I really regret doing it myself, it's not clear and is very ugly, i need to find a way to get it off before i can send it in.
I'm thinking of getting mine repaired and then getting it wrapped in ghost armor.
The armor works great...

I didnt have "Cracks" but I have the ripple effect on the small plastic part like it was going to crack.
wondering about the superglue method myself (i have cracks on both speakers). does it melt the plastic cover?
I have cracks on my TP as well. It's a hardware defect, much like the original Pre / usb door cracks. The plus side is that it will never spread to the screen, and it does not affect the performance (or looks if it's in a case).
I don't recommend sending it back for "repair" ... it's not worth it and you don't know if you'll get it back.
It works.
I just noticed cracks as well. I'm going to check out that ghost armor. Looks neat.
Sent from my Touchpad using xda premium
well the cracks around the speakers is cosmetic. Contact HP Support they will replace the casing.
I had the same issue with my TP. The customer support was good. They sent me a return box and label. All you have to do is to pack your TP as per instructions and drop it at nearby UPS store. I received the repaired TP within a week.
Act fast before the warranty expires.
I just noticed a crack in mine. Called them and they are sending a box out. It's covered for a year they said.
10 have it back. I'm sad but will be happy to get new one and will have armor case ready and waiting for it.

Yea. HP is going to get my tablet back in a few days. I have to go drop it off. I wonder if they've fixed the problem and the new ones don't do it. I sure hope so.
I have dropped mine and its cracked on the corner and some of the plastic has come away. Does anyone know if replacement covers are available while searching about this? Cant seem to find one.
My TP has now developed a crack near the speakers! Spoke to HP who said there was a batch of TP`s who had a "bad" batch of plastic and the new plastic they use is better and should not crack!!
I have to send photo`s of the crack to their Argentinian office and then the TP gets sent from the UK to Hungary for repair (through UPS)
Hungary?? I think that is the first time I have read the word "Hungary" anywhere in months (do not spend a lot of time looking at maps of Eastern Europe).

No never put it in my back pocket, always side pocket with nothing else.
Home button is fine, a little bit of grime picket up by the camera.
I also have a crack, and i never dropped my phone
I have the exact issue at the exact same spot. Found the crack a few hours after opening the package. Sent my phone back to Expansys. I will get the replacement today and hopefully the new one doesn't have this crack.
In a Portuguese forum I've seen 2 or 3 guys with cracked bezel. They bought from expansys.
Disappointed!
Ouch!!!!!
Please nooo!! Not another manufacturer flaw!! I escaped from a Sony Xperia S (famous yellow tint on bottom of screen).
I could live with a modifiable software glitch but not that!!
Glad i don't have one of those!
hopefully any type of design flaws will be ironed out by the time they launch here in the states. that is not good, though.

Exactly. My note has them too, those are normal.
But the cracks that we see above they are not normal.
I hope that mine arrives with 0 problem. I hate to replace my phones. Specially the expensive ones. Don't like to see a expensive thing with faults.
It certainly would appear to be an issue. I just hope they came with the crack, and not that they develop over time.

I'm not talking about those. There are two cracks by the volume rocker, one almost not visible between the rocker and the screen, the other is about a 1cm down and much more visible. There is no looseness there so not too bothered.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Dear,
I also have the same CRACK at same LOCATION near the volume rocker!
Something about the curved screen perhaps?
I had the exact same problem on my s2 before I bought this, I had 6 cracks on three sides of the phone, never dropped or looked after poorly. Kept in a case in my front pocket with nothing else. Samsung didn't want to know about it either. Said I must have dropped it.
Hope this doesn't happen to this too. Will be the last Samsung I buy if it does.
