HI too many threads to look in and searching hasn't helped, looking at picking one of these up and the one I want is locked on T-Mobile which isn't a problem as its the sim I use, but it has T-Mobile firmware on would this be easy enough to get rid of.
Yes just flash a stock firmware through odin, theres guides and a list of roms in the original dev section

Jabby mi old mate, just click on the second link in my signature.
Thanks chaps for your replies made a note of that page, just got to snag myself a phone now.
What firmware do you chaps recommend to use ? there is so many out now and I would want to flash a custom one also, I think before I sold mine I was using Lightning rom but it seems its exploded now with roms, what do you advise.
What is the best route to go, flash a stock firmware then put on the custom one after and will it hinder me with it being locked on T-Mobile.

Hello All!
I have posted a thread a while ago about my htc amaze having so many issues after rooting and installing ROMs.
Luckly, I was able to return my phone and get it exchanged as I only had it for 1 week... so I got saved!
Now, with my new one, I still want it to be able to read Arabic correctly!
Rooting the device isn't the issue, I think I did it the first time with no problems (except for installing the ROM)
It seems like because I'm with "Wind Mobile" I can't flash the device, and I can't even get ICS when it becomes available.... I guess Wind customers are out of luck! (at least that's what I have been reading online)
I'm very new to Android world, and I like the phone the way it is except for supporting languages.
So I don't care if it's rooted or not, and all of these cool stuff. I just want Arabic!
My questions are:
1- Can I root my device, and add a patch without adding custom ROMs as I don't want to reck my phone again
So I want to keep the current ROM. "stock". and still add the patch. is this doable?
2- Regarding ICS. When the update comes out, will it be to specific cell phone carriers? I mean if you are with T-mobile -for example- you're good, and if not too bad?
does it depend on which company you are with, or just which phone you have?
I think that's it for today, lol... I'll wait for your answers
Thanks in advance!
well, the easiest way to get root is to flash a custom rom,
if you have the device rooted with stock, you could just flash the patch
if there is an ICS rom, you should be able to flash it

Thank you EclipzeRemix for replying!
Actually that is very promising, you gave me hope, and your reply is very encouraging!!!
So basically when the ROM (the offical one) comes out then I can flash it regardless of which company I'm with right?
just making sure I got it right lol

oh awesome !!! that's really great to hear.. I really hope so... I don't care I can wait forever as long as there is a will to release the update to Wind customers!
and hopefully Android didn't forget to add the missing languages to the update!
Looks like question was answered.

Hello,
I'm trying to find if there is as of yet any way to root this device. I did find one thread but involved flashing a Russian (I think) rom. Before I had the HTC Legend, so I'm not used to Samsung phones. I've been searching since I got it yesterday. I'm wondering if anyone found a safe / confirmed way to do this yet. If I need to wait, I need to wait. I just wanted to pose the questions. I did fine a few roms and info on the Korean version of the phone, but was also unsure if it was safe to flash on this device.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

In the same boat as you!! I don't want to flash any other roms as it can lead to other issues. As of now I hate not having root, but if it means I have to wait for a flashable. Zip, or a super one click. I can wait

I have just rooted my device using the Russian rom, it went smoothly and I'm now rooted, If you go ahead with it its very simple, took about 5 mins

Russia root works
I used the same rooted and it worked smoothly for me i would recommend that you use it
I'm so willing to bet that there is one of the already exisiting Samsung phones that has the exact same physical characteristics and all the ROMs are compatible. I'm so sure. I'm hoping. I'm praying. You know, CM9 and all that. =(

once rooted. anybody tried putting cyanogenmod for Galaxy S II on the I757M?
Do want ICS!!
No offense for anyone but these generic ROMs tend to run with the least amount of efficiency with Bell's Radio and Kernel. I tried at least 10 of the CM9's out there. The battery life was useless. It was more of a gimmick than anything else.
Which section of the forum is being used for this phone?
Where is this Russian Rom that everyone is talking about? Please provide links to location on the forum!
I am currently loathing Gingerbread but honestly. I will wait for the official Ice Cream Sandwich roll out.
It's being covered:

What were the different results of CM9? Were you building from source, or did you just download a random one and flash them in? I'm trying to port Stock ICS, and going for a much needed beer after I type this just to come sit back down and keep trying - I'm determined to have an alpha up in the next 24 hours of a CWM-flashable ICS.
I'm tearing apart every kernel I can find to make this *@#[email protected](ing phone boot from ICS.
Hey guys,
I just got this device and I'm loving it so far... I'm a T-Mobile customer, so I'm looking to flash a tmobile radio and Rom. The thing is I bought this from someone who used a toolkit to root it and unlock the bootloader. It's also running insert coin Rom and twrp.. I know nothing else is done besides that. This is my first non Samsung device, and Im used to the simplicity of Odin , I really dont want to screw anything up... Anyone have some advice? Thanks in advance...

I am probably not certified to answer this question. But my suggestion is-
You are searching here ( your best bet) so maybe search youtube for how to video's on "un"rooting and going back to stock. They normally have links to downloads that you need.
what is wrong with just leaving it unlocked and rooted, just flashing a different rom?

This will get you back to near stock T-mo >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281943
your best off to stay away from a radio update unless your having a problem.
Leave the recovery as is for now till you learn more about your phone
make a backup from TWRP and store it in a safe place (other than on the phone) before you go flashing roms (just a good practice anytime)
all the popular roms in the international section will work on your phone, Android Revolution HD, TrickDroid, insertcoin ...etc, just take your time and read a lot
Thanks for the suggestions guys... So even though I'm s-on, I can still flash a different Rom?

I'm planning on flashing my mom's phone to a custom ROM tomorrow, she's tired of all the AT&T crap that's gumming up her phone. It was originally locked to AT&T, but we've gotten the unlock from them, so it's unlocked now and on T-Mobile. Is there going to be any issues putting a custom ROM on it? Will it still be unlocked when I'm done? Any special steps I need to be aware of?
Thanks!

I am simply suggesting you search the forums and do lots of research first. These i717 forums are the best. I'm not on T-MO but I believe there are posts specific to it relating to which rom to flash, rooting procedures, etc. The "Super Everything" thread is always a great place to start.
If your Mom wants stable without issues, stick to a stock based ROM. Custom Roms come with brilliant perks but are not created for your individual phone's hardware like a stock ROM and may suffer in some (specific) ways. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the advice, but I want to go ahead with a newer ROM. They've abandonded it on ICS and I think she would benefit from going up to KitKat. Worst case, I flash it back down to stock.
I searched about the unlock, and didn't find anything.

FWIW a search of this forum gives results stating that you must unlock from stock. ( Standard exclaimer: your device may be different, etc.) I believe you can flash custom after that. Most people here have flashed dozens of ROMs on this device, myself included, but we are not all on the same carrier, etc.

Just another link that may be of help.

I already posted this thread but it was in the wrong forum, so hi, sorry for posting a thread that's likely already been answered, I tried looking through the forums and I'm lost. I used to be really into the custom ROM scene and whatnot back in the galaxy S2, but haven't really been at it in a while.
So I bought my fancy new S6 Edge G295W8, and I'm looking at how I can go about safely rooting it. I checked CF-root but I didn't see my model number, it seems like samsung's adding in more and more model variations every generation. I'm also on a carrier that isn't mentioned specifically under the S6 forums, so that adds to the confusion. So what's a good and safe root to use? I'm still familiar with odin and flashing as pda and whatnot, so I won't need a tutorial on that, just a good starting point at a thread with a root that'll work for me.
And another minor question, any good ROM recommendations? How's the cyanogenmod support for my model? Are there any good clean roms with the edge features still intact?
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated.

Are you sure that's G295W8? Most of the model numbers I see are G925 instead. G925W8 is a supported model for the ping pong root.
As far as ROMS go, I haven't tried that as it would likely trip KNOX and void warranties.

Sorry I'm dumb, yes I meant that G295W8. I just tried pingpongroot, and i keep getting the root failed message. I'm on 5.0.2. Are there any alternatives? kingroot doesn't seem to support my model number.
Pingpongroot should work on the w8. Both of the s6s I've had (edge and regular) worked on it no problem. You just have to do the force root or something like that. Can't remember what the options were but it worked/works like a charm. Just trying to figure out how to do the recovery without wiping everything again...

I have the W8 as well. It's Canadian I assume. I used pingpong root no problem, but haven't really gone further due to all the models and confusion... I wish the Canadian carriers had their own section in the forum as well. It'll take awhile but just read. I still don't get it myself lol. Don't try flashing a recovery yet or anything though... From what I've noticed, it's bricked many devices

So I basically just kept trying ping pong root... It took a couple tries and resets and it eventually just worked I guess?? You're making me paranoid about the recoveries now, are there no solid recoveries for the w8 yet?
