Not For Long.
Time and time again people have pleaded with motorola about this issue. Motorola does not listen to it's customer's; it listen's to it's carrier's. It's up to a dev to get this thing unlocked. Period.

Well, a few customers would be very happy. Unfortunately, the vast majority of customers have no idea what a custom ROM is, or care about even rooting their phone. Carriers like Verizon have much to gain by taking steps to insure that most of their phones in the field remain stock. I'd imagine that KurioHonoo hit it square on the head. Moto believes it more important to remain a favorite son of the carrires, rather than take a step that would please a small percentage of customers at the risk of doing anything to weaken their favored carrier status.
The fact that Moto manufactures much of the cell infrastructure equipment for the carriers probably reinforces this attitude.

I sent this in to Droid life and tweeted it to Android Police and what not. Come on guys, stop the pitty party and lets show Motorola how big that actual def community is! We're not just a small percentage, I know that for a fact. At least around here, where I live, everyone knows or at least knows the basic idea of what rooting and such is, and they are aware that HTC is supportive and Motorola is currently not.
But let's retweet this link to Motorola, and post on that forum. Let's show them how big we really are!

Our devs worked very hard to unlock our bootloader so I don't believe you are giving them enough credit when you say its been unlocked since day one. You acknowledge that the Atrix version is not stable. Well that is kind of a problem for us because the Atrix team will most likely be the ones who will port it over for us. There was a thread started about it on the cyanogenmod forums about two weeks ago so you might want to keep that thread alive. A lot of people aren't willing to sacrifice their 4g access for custom ROMs just yet but once the 4g issue is fixed then I think you will see a lot more. You might want to communicate with the Atrix team and show them your support and offer your device for testing if you wish to speed things up. Just make sure you have a nandroid backup.
First rule of Cyanogenmod is don't ask for an eta.
Sent from my Motorola Photon 4g
Not being a Dev (yet. I am eager to learn) my layman's/noob's suggestion would be for the Photon Dev's and the Atrix Dev's to combine forces to create CM7 for both phones. If I am not mistaken, and please correct me if I am wrong so I can learn, the Photon & Atrix are very similar and with the exception of the RIL and a few other minor differences the CyanogenMOD ROM for both phones would be practically identical. Sometimes too many cooks spoil the soup but most of the time the more great minds the better.
I understand that both the Photon & Atrix Dev's put in a ton of work to root & unlock the bootloaders. They did this out of a love for what they do and asked for nothing in return, they should be thanked and praised for their efforts and contributions to the community.

I think it has more to do with people getting annoyed with noob and uniformed questions. Since when did a a different phone with an unstable version and a bootloader that will break 4G become a prerequisite for the Photon getting CM7?

What? You really have no idea what you are talking about do you? The devs are definitely still working on the Atrix, and you come across like you are questioning the devs and only an obnoxious person who wants and demands everything for free, without putting in any effort, will do that. You have to remember that these developers work from basically ground floor up, they are dependant on what is released from Motorola and Google, which is a whole lot of nothing on a good day. They also work on their own time without any real monetary support. We all have to just sit an enjoy our steak and stop worrying about what's for dessert.

Probably because a lot more developers are getting tired of the increasing stream of BS that's flowing through the XDA forums (and it's not limited to the Atrix, either, not by a long shot). They probably figure that the increased exposure isn't worth all the crap they have to put up with.

Funny that when my friend who owns an IPhone cannot believe all the fun I have customizing my phone and how much faster and lighter my phone feels, and don't get me started on all the blackberry folks who have to charge their phone twice a day and don't believe how long my phone lasts. The Atrix is a beast and I plan on rocking it for a long long time.
Buying Moto was a big mistake. Yes. I think I will now admit it. Literally NO updates and they treat you like Sh*T. Good going Moto. Not to mention the fact that the devs give it a miss. I don't blame them at all. When other major corps (HTC at least) have listened to their customers and unlocked their boot loaders and released their source code, what makes Moto so special and not follow suit. A while back they were nearly non-existent. Until Google bought 'em.
I am growing impatient as I slowly see the world progress towards faster and newer OSes and inspite of paying a bomb and buying killer hardware, have to be stuck with MotoBla and am at the mercy of Motorola. Hmmm...*checks if the logo behind isn't a bitten apple*
As if this wasn't enough, add to it CDMA/GSM confusion. Some really awesome ROMs out there for CDMA and we, the GSM lot, just helplessly watch as a third world country. No doubt the devs are working day and night on patches and ROMs...but the progress is visibly slow (for GSM that is).
On the other hand whatever brighter side is left, yes, the hardware and looks are killer. But now I think it's pointless.
Never again Moto. YES sir.

Xda is a development forum for developers, essentially your going to get a nod of agreement or flamed for littering the threads, why waste your energy? Why not voice your disappointment to the company that caused your grief. If Motorola and verizon's forums, Facebook, etc. we're filled with as many post with customer complaints as xda is they might do something about it just to shut us up.

You don't know how good you have it with this phone.
The phone you want is not available and it is a RAZR HD Nexus model.
I am extremely content with this phone.
Used to flash anything that came out for my Samsung phones to try and eek out a little extra performance. This phone doesn't need that.
SHVR MAXX
I have Epsilon V4 running on my gsm Razr. I have friends who have Galaxy and Nexus devices, among other premium devices. They care little about benchmarks and ROMs. They (We) worry more about email, some photo apps, social networking, some games, and business related apps. Hell I had to talk them into rooting and such. One thing they do care about is the "feel" that my razor has; its uniqueness, they grab it, fondle it, leet it rest on their hands and stare at the kevlar.
That being said, I don't think I want to buy a plastic telephone that develops cracks for no apparent reason. Furthermore, if time and business allow I am considering learning the related stuff to Android development. Not just for the challenge and fun, but for the very principle "If you want something done your way, you get to it."
Nobody forced me, or any adult for that matter, to obtain and keep this phone. If anybody is that unhappy with their device, I'd say it will be quite simple to sell it and get something one wants.
:good:
I was wondering what do you guys think i should upgrade to I'm coming from the incredible 2 which had great dev support. I was gonna get the DNA because of the specs and i've played with it in the store and i loved it! LG Newsroom Article is found here.
Not getting excited. We'll see when it happens
They were speaking about the international version. AT&T still needs to give our update the two-month treatment. But still it's a good sign that most of the LGOGs will have JB. It should make AT&T speed up their release.

I understand that. I'm merely pointing out that this site contains less than 1% of the total users of mobile devices out there. When thinking about why companies do what they do, try to look at the big picture. The big picture is to do what makes the masses happy, and not the select few. Obviously there's a middle ground somewhere, but huge companies can't afford the middle ground, they have investors to win over. Wow, I just got into a territory I really didn't expect to haha!

I don't understand then, how it can possibly be a bad thing for them to release source then. According to you, it will only affect us XDA users and have no bearing on the masses. In the meantime, it would make many of us ecstatic and reduce returns from frustrated users or bricks because people are trying to figure it out sooner. Boom, two birds, one stone. We're happy, fewer returns, win/win.

Thing is, in here we (I, at least), really, Really don't care about the big picture and those of you locked down by your carrier (sorry for being a Richard.) My phone has been freed of AT&T's grip. Most of us can't even, and really don't want to, receive OTA's. Technically, AT&T isn't even my carrier! So whatever time line AT&T is on with JB means nothing to me. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.
However, LG on the other hand, is of a little more concern, since they hold the key to JB with the source code. From what I understand though, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, they are obligated to release it. Although, I don't know what time constraints they're under.
Anyway, please don't misinterpret the tone of this thread. All in good fun.

Thing is, in here we (I, at least), really, Really don't care about the big picture and those of you locked down by your carrier (sorry for being a Richard.) My phone has been freed of AT&T's grip. They have to release it to comply with the GPL and IIRC they have 6 months.

I never said it would be a bad thing for them to release the code. I think it would be awesome if they did for all of the reasons you just mentioned. I was merely bringing to light why they haven't done it yet, but in reality that's anyone's guess.
I have cm10 on my atrix , I really dont see the big deal about JB, i'll take it when it rolls out tho.
