It was locked to AT&T but was promised by some moron at Dell said that they or AT&T would give the unlock code. I think they eventually did, but not in THAT Streak's lifetime with me. SOLD THAT one and bought another Pre-release version which I had maybe a year? or longer. When I got my Samsung Tab I sold my Streak as soon as I got the phone unlocked in the Tab.
Then I heard that the AWS version would get 3G on T-Mobile. AND I heard that Dell was no longer going to sell their precious Streak in the USA ... So I bought the only AWS version I could find on eBay. Should have it this week. It is NEW in box .. I believe they come from Europe because I don't think that Dell USA sold the 3G model. Maybe they did but I was finished dealing with Dell directly so I never really investigated because, what is the point. Dell Tech support will tell you anything and they know almost NOTHING ..
Saved my question for last .. I have the Mugen EXTENDED battery. I quit trying to find a fix for the battery issue. Ever since the 2.2 or 2.1 update, the phone couldn't tell that there was another day or two left on the battery. Anyone know if this was ever fixed. Apparently Dell won't even try to resolve that problem.
Thanks .. New phone arrives Tuesday.. I don't know why I sold my streak. My other phone is an iPhone .. maybe that is the reason.

Hi all.
I am currently on the phone with AT&T as my USA beta Streak has quit working!! I am being told that the US Streaks were designed to quit after the evaluation period was over!! I now can not make any calls with it at all except to AT&T!!
Any one else had their Streak IMEI blocked by AT&T??
UPDATE: Over at Modaco they are starting to drop like flies......several posts about it now! It is happening as we speak!!

All 1100+ US beta Streak IMEI's are now invalid! They could not (or would not) say if the IMEI's will be good again after the release!
UPDATE 3: Dell states that it was AT&T that did this to us and that the affected units will work again AFTER the official USA release! They could not say when that would be tho.....

mine went down an hour ago, im glad i got mine through the beta and did not pay for it
mine is down now too. I was using an Ipad sim card. Will try later with my other ATT sim to see if it works. Let's hope the streak releases soon!
Another reason to hate at&t. I was 100% going to get the dell streak once it came out in the U.S. for tmobile. Fortunately, I had a change of heart when the Galaxy S (Vibrant) was released. Not only has dell announced it will be available only for at&t, but also at&t has delayed its release for ages. Poor dell, should have gone with a different carrier.
so if it's only being blocked on AT&T then if we use it here in Canada it should be good then right? Or is it the actual device that is being remotely nuked?

To put it bluntly... that is 100% illegal. It is the equivalent of changing the VIN of your car.

According to rumors, Apple did not renew with AT&T and we may see a new iPhone come holiday season with the possibility of it being from Tmo. There are HUUUGE articles all over the place right now that there is a possiblity that AT&T is movin to WinPho7/Android in place of iOS devices ... even if you look at their line up and the fact they are to be the first WinPho7 carrier in the US you can tell something is changing at AT&T. This could be for the better .. or the worst but they need to get the ball rolling faster if they want to survive as the #2 carrier with out Apple pulling them through...

OK so I'm getting bored of my X10i as there is pretty much nothing you can do with it and I'm probaby going to go back to a winmo based phone.
I've had many x1s and loved that phone however I want something new, I've also have the Touch Pro2 and while it was brilliant I found the camera rubbish and it was just too 'thick'.
I've decided to go for the HD2 (I think after the x10 I wont notice a massive size increase, except screen obviously) however I'm stuck between getting a 2nd hand one which was on T-Mobile or Orange (UK for both).
The 'physical' branding on the T-mobile handsets seam less obtrusive so I think I'll go for that. My question is does anyone see a problem in getting an (UK) T-mobile branded HD2, debranding it and flashing costume ROMS & chaning the radio? I'll be using it on Vodafone (UK).

you should have no problems at all with either, the phones are identical. might have to pay fifteen quid to get it unlockedbut that's it.
sam is the expert so no worries on that score. But i would advise caution on buying a second hand hd2. Just make sure the phone has no issues due to heat problems.
I know quite alot of hd2's switch off when they overheat and this results in normally needing a new motherboard etc. so make sure you test the phone before you buy it.

Ahhh i see. in that case mate i am sure it will be fine. It really is a great phone. Perhaps you should check out an energy rom?

I got mine from cex and it was on o2. Get a grade a stock as this is like new. Mine had the seal on everything even the phone hadn't been used on the network.then I went to the link on the o2 websiye and they give you the unlock code for free.

Hi everyone, I was browsing my daily web sites this morning, and on slickdeals.net, they have a deal going for a Dell laptop that comes with a Streak 5 for $640, so I figured I'd jump on it!
So in a week, I'll be the owner of a new Dell Streak 5 and Inspiron 15r. I'm not new to the Android rodeo (I currently have 2 android devices right now), but I've never encountered a Streak before. Any tips for a first time user? Any good ROMs or various goodies to flash?

If you're on tmo like your nametag indicates be aware you cant get 3g on it.

Really? That stinks.
It looks like it has all the bands to be able to do it though, including HSPA (or whatever it is). Why doesn't it work?
Tmo is AWS 1700+2100
US streaks are 850/1900/2100
At&t is 850/1900
You'll still get edge and it'll work, but not on 3g

I got this as well. Is there no chance it will work on T-Mobile 3G? It's the unlocked version, so I thought it would?
I jumped on the same deal but am using AT&T. Also, I upgraded the video on the laptop and used the Dell Financing option to save a whopping extra 3%.
The streak will work on AT&T, correct?

only way to get 3g is to buy an AWS streak, US streaks will work fine on edge though (need to be unlocked for tmo)
received an email from Dell last week that the item was going to be delayed shipping (backordered). called Dell, same day received a separate email saying it was shipped. got the item 2 days ago and loving it!

What are the pitfalls if any with using International Versions on ATT. I can see the advantages.
Flashing methods seem to be the same from what I am reading. Even A TiBu restore may work from a saved folder from the Captivate. Have not read of any differences there in apps or TiBu.
VPN settings work?
Been looking to get this handset but not sure about about a few processes. I am guessing MobileTech can unbrick one of these should I have an issue as they did one of my Captivates. I have not read of any US repair support expected.
USA Buyer
I have a SGII here in US, bought from onthegosolutions.com, works well on AT&T sim card. No setup issues, nothing to complain about but the problems with the native email app and activesync exchange server, that is supposed to be fixed in KE7 if I can ever get it.
The phone is the standard EU version XWKE2
I got mine from Amazon and the CSC was from Chile. Flashed the generic European ROM soon after to update the build to KE7. Everything has been working fine before and after flashing and rooting.
THanks for the replies. Being a "noob" to non branded Android Galaxy (always bought Nokia before and had to set up VPN was the only difference.
The two branded Captivates which were complete turds initially have been very nicely polished by developers. (hence my support of donations to them and this site.) I believe in supporting the helpful developers with my wallet for ROMS and paid Apps.
I don't use either Exchange or the stock Email app. I like Gmail and K9. I will root for TiBi and root Explorer. Probably run Cog at first since DG was a force on the SGS I and still is. When I get comfortable with the flashing processes I will try other ROMs
I guess most processes are similar to the S1. I did notice two rooting methods. I even read somewhere SuperOneclick may work.
OF hundreds of flashes I bricked once (recently) but $50 late MobileTech and the JTAG had me like new. Small price to pay to save a few hundred dollar phone. IM guessing Josh cna do the same with the SGS II.

I read on Android Central the other day that Samsung was having issues with the carriers in the US on getting them to pick up this phone. I don't know why since its an awesome phone and they already have phones on all the major carriers. I'm glad I bought it outright instead of waiting for ATT to officially carry it.

The source of all those stories was a Korean writer with no facts talking out of his ass. A dev just found AT&T LTE code in the 2.3.4 leak along with PNG logos unique to their network.

Yeah IM over Carrier branded handsets. I was glad ATT never carried the N82/N95/N97 Nokias...... I could not care if ATT never gets the SGS 2. Probably get an SGS 3 instead to compete with ifad 5

calle 611 from my dell streak 5, it's an att phone/tablet, talked to an att representative and asked for an unlock code so I can use my streak 5 abroad. After a few minutes, he looked up the imei code and told me that I'd have to fax in my copy of the receipt for the phone. I asked why and he said something about the phone needing further action for unlocking. I thought it was very strange so kept asking what the problem was. He just said it wasn't a problem with the phone but that something to do with whether my account was qualified for unlocking of the phone. At that point, I just told him to f**k off, but gently and without any cuss words of course.
Has anyone else experienced this with att?
I bought my Dell Streak 5 about a month ago from a Craigslist seller, came with box and all original contents.
This was my third or fourth time asking att for unlock codes and I had never heard att asking for proof of purchase/transfer of phone.
Is ebay unlock sellers my only choice at this point?
Just call back. Tell them you bought it retail. Also state that your using it for overseas. If you get the same thing wait a bit call back. Hope that helps

That may be the cause of your problem. They can probably tell that you are not the original owner. Was the seller the original owner? Can you get a copy of the original receipt? Would the seller call on your behalf to verify that the ownership has been transferred?
I had a similar problem today, att told me it can be unlocked but they cannot find a code in their database and that I would have to call dell to get one. Dell of course told me I need to find the original owner have them call dell to transfer ownership. Strange thing beings how this is a two year old device.
tell them it was a gift from a relative and it would be night mare to get the receipt..
or just pay on ebay... much easier..
