[Q] Long Press Search Button -> Launch 'custom' Application - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i've been looking around for an app that acts as a shortcut to open a certain application via long pressing the search key.
Now, every app i've come across until now has been removed from the market and i can't seem to find an APK anywhere.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance!

Coincidentally I've been looking for something similar today. No luck either
For double press I did find Quick Launch

Tasker allows that. It's a great app that has loads of options. It's a paid app, but if you like to tinker it is money well spent.

Based on event "long press search button" add task "load app (name). You can set it to notify you as well.

launchkey v1.2.1

Buttonremapper.apk
Used it to make the search button on my bravoc the camera button
Sent from my HTC EVO 3d
Root: revolutionary
Recovery: Twrp cwm 4
ROM: Synergy rls318 (I want aosp)

Launchkey works well.
If you want a shortcuts ("add new item") launched, I found the app "Home2 Shortcut" will do that.

[Q] How to customize tap and hold search menu?

When I tap and hold the search button it displays a list of applications that can be quickly accessed anytime. Is there a way to change (add, delete, reorder) that list?
Are there any apps that provide the same function?
Thanks.

I suppose tasker would probably allow you to do this.
EDIT: just created a profile for this using tasker, so yes, it can be done.
EDIT 2: if you're on cm7 you can also use Simifolder to set up a folder with the apps you want and then use the 'Input' setting 'Search button behavior' to set the search button to execute it on long press.

[Q] Killing tasks by pressing HW keys

Hi,
Can you help me with a problem?
When I want to kill an application on my Desire, I must go to the app drawer and find the Task killer. And then, find the app that I want to kill, press and wait for the options and finally kill that app. It's annoying, because it takes a lot of time... (sorry, but for me 5 sec IS a lot ) Please don't tell me to just avoid killing tasks.
I got an idea if it is possible to kill a tasks just by pressing HW keys or a combination of HW keys. For example: By pressing 3x HOME I'll kill the application I'm just using. That should save a lot of time (that 5 sec).
So my question: Is there a way to assign own actions to HW keys? By remapping or something like that?
Thanks a lot.
In MIUI (and I think CM7) there's an option to long-press the back button to kill the current task.
If you're not interested in using either of those roms, I believe there's an app that will do the same. There's also an app that will allow you to close the current app from the notification bar.
Those apps may require root, and I don't know the names of them. Just search the Market, you may find them.

[Q] Talkback toggle creation... Please help!

OK... I have got Tasker, I`m trying to make a shortcut to talkback, or accessibility that can be accessed from double pressing the home button.
I have tried xshortcut to try and use the capture feature on it, but I get a permissions error.
I could enter it in the intent field manually I suppose, but what would I have to type as an intent to get to talkback to either toggle on or off, or to get just the the talkback screen?
I have looked and looked. The closest I am getting is com.android.settings.Subsettings.
Yes I am a noob and yes I am out of my depth, but I am just trying to make a talkback toggle for my partially sighted wife.
Any flaming/suggestions welcome
EDIT: In an ideal world, the Home2 shortcut app would work, as you can select a shortcut in this app, so I would make an accessibility shortcut with Anycut, and use it with that, but SGS2 isn`t compatibile with Home2 shortcut, and advanced home button app cannot select shortcuts

any update on this?? Am also trying to figure out the same thing for galaxy s and an android tab..
Closest I have got is, because Home2 doesn`t work on TouchJizz, you install some kind of AOSP rom then it works faultlessly.
The closest shortcut you can make is getting to the accessibility page, this is does either through Nova launcher actions (which I thinik is similar to anycut) or use Anycut itself!
Talkback needs an update...
Same here. I emailed the developer of spiel and he says a direct shortcut can't be made as Google limits this!

[Q] How to access core Android functions like app switching

Is there any way to access core Android functions like app switching (holding down the Home button for a few seconds), to be used in other contexts? Similar to how you can access Activities from the apps installed and use them as Shortcuts.
What I'd like to do is this:
press Home -> bring up app switching interface
long-press Home -> go to Home screen
Basically I want to reverse the two functions that short and long pressing the Home button does.
If not that, I'm also interested in being able to access the "app switching interface" via a Shortcut (like a Shortcut you place on your Home screen), or via an app.
For example, you can long-press on the Home screen and add a Shortcut (different than adding a shortcut to an App) which basically includes various context functions of some of the apps you have installed. I want to be able to do this - add a Shortcut - in which the Shortcut I add launches the "app switching interface" that you normally get by long-pressing the Home button. That way I can put that Shortcut in Wavelauncher or wherever else I want to be able to app switch without the annoyance of having to long-press something.
Maybe this kind of thing requires root and hacking, but that's why I'm here! I'd be grateful for any advice and help; thank you!
As far as I know you'll need a custom rom like cyanogenmod or aokp to do things like that.Being able to do that in a stock rom would compose of alot of work within the framework-res.apk, systemUI.APK, and button maps. To flash a custom rom require root and clockworkmod. I want to help you but first what type of device do you have?

I'll be getting my new LG Optimus G Pro in a few days. I was hoping, if I can't reverse the functionality on the Home button, that I could maybe assign the "app switching interface" to the programmable button on the side. Thanks for helping out by the way.
Is your device rooted? Also thank me with the button

I don't have it yet, but I would be willing to root it. I'm using my good ol' GS2 Skyrocket for the next few days until it arrives.
Well I have my Optimus G Pro and I've been using it for a few days. I saw an app by the makers of Tasker that allows you to build your own app. Could I possibly use that to accomplish what I want (build an app whose function is to show the "app switching interface" )? Or would I really need to root it (and if so, what then?)?

App switcher

A while back, I installed Cynogenmod on my moto X and stumbled upon its task switch shortcut, I could hold the "recent apps" button to quickly navigate to the last app I had open which I found immensely useful. I'm now running stock lollipop (5.1) and was wondering if there's any way to obtain this great feature once again. I found an app called last app switcher, but it involves clicking a red button that hovers over the screen which I find irritating.
P.S. After flashing back to complete stock, I have the default recovery and I'm no longer rooted, I have computer to root my phone at the moment.
Try out Swapps by SchizTech
Hmm week you can replicate the function by using xposed and gravity box
