So.. forgive my ignorance, but I installed the leaked update for the skyrocket last night and was able to just flash a cwm tar with only recovery in it and then superuser to root. I take it thats impossible with the i777?

Give it a little time. Should be soon.
It hasn't been posted, but it has been.
No not me, I am sticking with my base, too lazy to restart and haven't found a reason why to change.
Hmm worked for the skyrocket ics leak... cant be including a GB kernel with it or id bootloop? And skyrocket has no cwm with ics kernel...

A few people have been able to root it with odin mobile. The question is how to get CWM recovery into that new leak.

Install Entropy's kernel with Odin, or Mobile Odin. He's posted his updates several times, but I don't remember where I saw them. You could just extract them from one of the Samsung ICS roms around here.
EDIT: Looks like recovery isn't possible with the leak, due to Entropy getting call audio to work before the leak. You'd have to stay with the stock leak kernel, which means Odin'ing back to stock, then cwm kernel, then nandroid restore if you want to get back. You could probably use Mobile Odin to load the back-to-stock + root package, and load a CWM kernel all in one flash . See the below, quoted post from him.

Source doesn't really matter - I9100 trees basically fully support I777 at this point, there is almost no difference. There's a good chance it'll mostly work, just like a single kernel worked for I777 and I9100 bases in the Gingerbread days.
However, call audio won't work though due to the libaudio workaround. I have no intention of turning this off or doing dual-builds with two different defconfigs for a leak. When official ICS comes around I'll look into other options.
Firmware developers could do a "reverse Hellraiser" with libaudio, but since there's no NFC I have no interest in the leak. UC bases suck - when ICS came out I was damn close to declaring UC bases supported for my Gingerbread kernel because only those on UC bases seemed to have stability problems starting with the I9100 update3 source merge (which made I9100 bases awesome.)

Just odin a kernel with CWM and then flash the rom task posted. It has both root and CWM. If you read up you would know this.

Ok, if you want to have a rooted version of the UCLC2 leak, here are the steps:
1. Download Odin on your PC.
2. Use it to flash back to stock. This will reset your bootloaders to the old ones.
3. If you use the ROM in that thread, it will already have root access. Download Mobile Odin from the Market.
4. Use Mobile Odin to flash a CWM enabled kernel.
5. Use CWM Recovery to flash the rooted UCLC2 leak.
Done. All this information was already posted before you posted in this thread; all you had to do was go find it.
Thanks for the tip. I had already tried those steps. The only thing I was doing wrong was that I wasn't wiping anything before I flashed thru odin. I was stuck with the Google app framework error. Thanks again.
Cheers.

I have an ATT I777 on the UCKK6 base. Id like to root it. Its obviously still running GB and that base I listed. I know they sometime lock stuff down further with different update. So the question is, would there be any issue with updating the phone to ICS through KIES and then rooting? Or should I root it before? If I root it before will I lose root if I try to update it then, I would think so at a minimum.
does anyone know the most current base, or what it would be that I came out with after the KIES update?

Ok, so then go through the process to root UCKK6 and then just flash that? Id assume the other available ROMs have the kernel checked for the EMMC bug?
Im new to this phone ans Samsung in general, is this phone basically unbrickable? I see unbricking flashes and things like that

No. This phone is definitely *not* unbrickable if, by unbrickable you mean not capable of being bricked. If you mean can it be brought back from a brick, then it depends on the type of brick we're talking. If you're talking the hard brick caused by the eMMC bug, then no. You won't be bringing it back from the dead.
If you have not already, I would advise reading the post at the following link, then reading the thread related to the mentioned app:

No need really, I'm so used to running ASOP like ROMS on my other phones I probably wouldn't like it anyway. I was mostly just curious as it seems that with the base I'm currently on rooting is a little more involved. I was also wondering if Sammy had maybe patched something in the new build.

Here is what I would do if I were you. When I rooted mine I was on KH7 so I used DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit then installed Mobile Odin to flash Entropy512's DD 3-7 GB kernel to get CWM then flashed a custom ICS ROM. I went back to look over creepys guide "How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter" I have read it 100 times I just want to make I got you the best info I could.... Give a BIG shout out to creepyncrawly for putting that guide out!!! Make sure you read that guide lots of great info... I did see a KK6 stock rooted package on here 1a. just read up see what is best then just follow the steps..... If you have any more questions just post them in this thread.
1. If you flash the 2c. "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
1a. Kernel + cache + rooted UCKK6 system package
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
2. Then install Mobile Odin link (You will need this to flash Entropy512 GB kernel just extract the zImage from the zip file and load it in the kernel slot in Mobile Odin)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
3. Then flash Entropy512 GB kernel to get CWM link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289460
4. Then you can flash any custom ROM you want!! AOKP is a great choice Task650 is VERY solid.... GL link

I check this thread about aberration for i777 and I was wondering if I could get any help installing it into mine i777.
Aberration i777
Should I root my i777 first?
I tried to do it, but I had an error with my wifi so I unroot the phone, after that I search all over the internet to find out on how to root an i777 kk6, but I did not find any good information on how to do it (I am new with this but I swear I search a lot specially in this forum the past 3 days)
So if you can please let me know about any threads where I can find any information on how to root the phone and then install aberration that will be great.
In advanced thank you very much for your help and sorry for my lousy english.

No. Those would be for the GT-I9100 I believe. The kernels for the I777 will all be available in this forum, in the development section. You must use a Gingerbread kernel with a Gingerbread system, so when you are rooting with UCKH7, the two main custom kernels are linked in the guide. That would be Siyah, and Entropy512's daily driver. Either one will work fine to get you ClockworkMod Recovery. You'll probably be flashing a different kernel when you put on a new firmware anyway.

Use the Siyah kernel from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592228
It is the same kernel from the website you found, but adapted specifically for the I-777. There are two versions. For aberration i believe you need to install the version WITH micswap, but check the threads to make sure. If you are using it with another ROM, check the first post from the thread above, they list which versions you need for different roms.
One caution: some people have reported problems when installing v4 of the kernel immediately after flashing a new ROM. To avoid problems, Flash your rom, reboot the phone fully, then go back into CWM recovery and flash your kernel. Or, if you are not flashing a jellybean rom, you can just use version 3 of ktoonsez kernel instead of the version 4 beta, and avoid the problem altogether.
Edit: oops...seems creepy beat me to it. Just do whatever he said, he is one of the most knowledgeable people here

@bigote,
Maybe I misinterpreted your question, and wgoldfarb has it right, but just to be clear...
If you are rooting the phone with UCKH7 plus root from my guide, you will need to install a Gingerbread custom kernel to get ClockworkMod Recovery so that you can flash Aberration. In that case, DO NOT use this kernel since it is for ICS and will not boot when flashed with a UCKH7 system. Read and follow my previous post.
Once you have Aberration installed, then you can upgrade the kernel to the latest Siyah ICS kernel from this link.

I have flashed paranoidandroid 3.15 on my galaxy s3 a couple weeks ago, aside the occasional screen that win't turn on I haven't had any problem, but I set my mind on flashing a new kernel in order to be able to change thez governor. I tried to flash air kernel on, I did exactly what I was told: Boot into recovery, clear cache/delvik, installed kernel from sd card, and rebooted. But after the phone being rebooted, I still had the stock kernel.
My question is, why did this happen, and how do I fix it?
All help is appreciated

I'm running TWRP ( Team Win Recovery Project)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469842 link to the kernel, although if you know any kernels that work better/ more appropriate for ParanoidAndroid, I am more than open to suggestions

wow, you're lucky the updater-script saved your phone. Flashing wrong firmware will kill it
Glenbun. Only mismatched, corrupted, or missing boot loaders can kill a phone.
yeah-yeah, but we should scare the noobs away from flashing the wrong firmware that potentially includes a bootloader

Glebun u have a point, even other incompatible components of recovery zip packages can brick the phone.

Wow, I feel so dumb ^^' I'll be more careful next time around.
What kernel would you recommend for me?
I recommed stock mb5 or speedmod k2-12 kernels for you

Well, I don't really know either of them, I don't mind stock, but I want to change things, sometimes it just isn't up for the task, or uses up battery when I would rather it didn't, without even knowing what they do, and looking around, I found the perseus kernel, I would like some opinions on the kernel, I would be very grateful if you told me if it fits me, if it's compatible with ParanoidAndroid, and finally if you have a better suggestion for a kernel.

read the first post of the thread to find out if it's compatible with your ROM.
and try it to see if it suits you
If I'm running TWRP can I still download kernels that say they are meant for CWM?
yes
Hi all, I've tried using the search function and looked through the similar threads. However, I am unable to find a thing about it. I was wondering, for my own device's safety, if I am able to flash a custom rom on baseband g900tuvu1gpe1 (if baseband matters). It's been a while since I've actually flashed any custom rom and have never flashed a custom rom on my tmo s5. Oh and I am using TWRP for recovery. Thank you!

I think you need to work on your search skills. There is a whole sub-forum for ROMs for the SM-900T:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/development
And, you can flash international ROMs for the phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5
There is a link in my sig for a Stock Rooted Deodex ROM, that I'm using.

Thank you for the response. However, that doesn't answer the question I had asked on the title of the post.
