I can confirm that flashing works, its from revolutionary team they made it possible to flash so why should it brick ur device flashing it ?
Just restoring a nandroid needs to be testet.. attn1 said it should be fine, didn't need to try it lately.
Ayt. Thx 4 info dood. May the force be with u

BTW, you can't brick a device by flashing a recovery image
Well thats not entirely true. If u flash a wrong recovery img, you could mess up the system partition, and the rom wont boot anymore, neither will the recovery work.
The only way to fix this would be to flash a working recovery and flash a new rom, which would be hard if we dont have a working recovery.
Luckily this works. Can comfirm.
Thanx OP!
Coz i just saw it in 3D with the Shooter!

To keep things clean. I did that and you both are wrong. When you flash a not working recovery, your system won't boot.
You simply reflash a working recovery, boot into recovery and flash the same rom over it without wipe and you are good to go
That means that I'm not wrong
If you still can boot in hboot, you haven't bricked your device. If you bricked your device, you can't do anything.
Thanks
Dude really 100x thanks, it worked for me, I love you Searching for 3 days now to fix it.

Yeah it has the offmode charging bug, don't let your battery die
When trying to flash to another ROM, in the recovery mode I am getting the "ROM Manager icon". The ROM Manager icon appears in whatever selection I choose. I cannot reboot, flash, turn off, mount, or any of the other options. The only way I can get out of that screen is to perform a battery pull.
I currently have HIGH ROM installed and am trying to install LeeDroids ROM. I tried installing through ROM manager but that also gave me an error saying I don't have the latest ROM manager when I do (got from Market same day), and that the SD card is not mounted. Any possible solutions?
In CWM recovery 5.0.2.0, power button = back, camera button = select

Does it work better than TWRP on hboot 1.5? If so, how?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Well, Cwm is kind of the Standard it seems. It has the full touch screen interface and the hardware buttons work also if digitizer goes bad. Cwm is continually updated/supported whereas TWRP appears to have stalled. I will admit I had problems getting anything other than TWRP 2.0, CWM 4.0.1.4 & Cwm Touch 5.0.8.2 loaded on my HTC unlocked hboot 1.5 3d. (see signature). The touch version just makes it quicker/easier to use.

If you're already rooted with 1.4 and S-Off, the easiest way is to use JK's FlashImage Gui app, locate the file, check "flash recovery" and then reboot to the new recovery. There is also a step by step load scenario (7) in the Rom/Recovery Issues thread in my signature.
Is anyone else having problems flashing files with the touch recovery?
I'm. On hboot 1.50 HTC Unlocked S-On with Cwm Touch 5.0.8.1.
Works well for.me other than sdcard mount/usb charging. Have tried 5.0.8.2 Touch yet. I always.enter recovery from fastboot by

Then format & flash everything at once. Detailed steps/ scenarios for what ive done are in the Rom / recovery issues thread in my signature.

I tried the Synergy_3Dvo_Superwipe. Didn't work for me on CWM Touch 5.0.8.1. Don't know if its setup to use TWRP, but it's just a zip so I don't see why it's be recovery specific unless the scripts need specific features/code.

If can, try a different batter / charger to see if this happens again.
If you don't have any of the above additional devices, then try leaving the battery our for at least 5 -10 min and reconnect it and plug in the charger and see what happens.

My thoughts, and I might be wrong, I don't think you can flash a custom recovery with a locked bootloader. You can't use an app to flash a custom recovery because they require root, he's not rooted. If you have a custom recovery and then relock, you get a security warning, and from my experience, it won't boot. So I'm thinking he has stock recovery.

Are you using a stock battery or aftermarket? I seem to notice my phone will always stay red while off when charging for 2 hours... I have used CWM 4.0 in the past and the latest TWRP.. Wonder if it is due to the Seidio 1900 I am using.
In the past on the stock battery everything seemed to work fine.. I only flashed a recovery when I rooted didn't flash superusers since I already had that cooked into my rom and alot of roms have it already in it...
Im using stock batery. But as I stated in my second post I have unlocked my phone and instaled custom recovery. The problem seems to be solved.
Probably shoud investigated it more before i changed recovery. To get to the bottom of it.

Hey guys and gals! So i've been flashing roms and mods for a few years now since the og evo but still very much noob. I was using mean rom, updating every couple of releases. on one of them he recommended flashing ext4 recovery which i did and then flashed the rom update. Everything worked fine for about an hour then the lockring started to not want to open, i would have to drag it up 3 or 4 times real fast. then soft keys started not to work and got progresivly worse to the point now once i open something i have to reboot to get back to home screen.
Thinking it was recovery i flashed back to cwm and same thing, flashed backups made well before it started acting up and same thing. Flashed different roms still the same.
Any ideas??? Thanx for any help.
Bump. I have this same problem
Are you s-off or s-on? What hboot version are you on? This information matters because flashing incompatible roms and kernels tends to cause problems. I take it since your on ics using meanrom that your problem is more than likely a kernel and or recovery issue. 4ext recovery is the best recovery used for ics roms. It's not recommended to use clockwork mod or restore backups recoveries formatted particular recovery with a different recovery. If you are on hboot 1.58 you must flash the 1.58 kernel in the meanrom folder added to your files after installation. Make sure you do a full clean wipe before installation of rom. Wipe dalvik and cache before you flash kernel.
Please hit the thanks button if I helped you.

Try using fastboot on your pc and having your phone in fastboot type fastboot flash recovery "whatever the name of the recovery file"img
So I tried flashing MeanRom the ics version onto the Evo 3d, and it flashed it. But every time it booted into the lock screen it rebooted itself. So I tried going back to the back up I made. But did not work, tried flashing a different rom but did not work also. It will go into recovery which was twrp but switched it to Ext4. So whatever I try it will just go into the HTC logo and get stuck there. I am at a loss, Please Help.
I will keep trying, but I'm running out of ideas

I had this exact same issue after trying to flash Myn's ICS ROM with Touch Recovery on 1.5 s-on..How I was finally able to fix it was to delete the 4 ext folder off my SD card. Then I booted into fastboot and pushed TWRP recovery back onto my phone and flashed a gingerbread rom. If you need help pushing the recovery via fastboot, this thread is the answer. Be sure to give JTNiggle some thanks.

Doesn't EXT4 Touch Recovery take care of that for you? That was my impression. Off topic, I know..

yes 4ext recovery takes care of that and you guys should be using it and make sure you have smart flash enable
I did try flashing a gingerbread rom with twrp but didn't work, which is why I flashed ext4

Well I used the dumlock method, which should have helped me flash the rom without manually going into my computer to flash via cmd right?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Happens to me too!
To flash a new ROM, go to your computer, Command Prompt , type in the direction of your recovery. ex= cd\evo3dTWRP, then type in "fastboot boot recovery.img (or whatever the name of your recovery img is), press enter and your phone should boot into Recovery. Wipe all data, then flash ROM.
BTW: Do you have Smartflash Enabled in 4EXT,?
Well bootloader is working and the recovery is too, I used twrp but noticed it wasn't working so I flashed 4ext. But for some reason it won't boot up roms (of any kind) or even restore my backup. The recoveries will restore or flash the rom. But once I reboot the phone it will just get stuck on the HTC logo. Yeah smartflash is and was enabled.

Download the ruu for your phone. If you have unlocked bootloader you will need to do this a little different but for now.. get the ruu. Boot into hboot then go into fast boot.. connected your phone to your PC and run the ruu.... this will take you back to factory.. it is possible to dissect the rom and customize it all but that is something to worry about another day

So, do you have adb/fastboot drivers installed on your computer? If not install them and reboot your phone on fastboot mode. You need fastboot executables from AndroidSDK (from google developer site) to install the 4ext recovery. Download the recovery here and move it on the sdk folder on platform-tools. While on fastboot open a command prompt on this folder (right click on the folder) execute the command "fastboot flash recovery 4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1.0.0.6_RC1.img" without the quotes, you can rename the file to whatever you like and change the "4EXT......RC1.img" with the name you choose. After the flash completes you must reboot on recovery using the volume buttons from fastboot. Go on settings and you will find the 4ext smartflash, enable it. Search for roms on development and try them, if you like sense the only supported roms out there is I think Yet Another Sense and mwakious3drom. Otherwise you can choose a senseless ICS based on sense or MIUI rom.

This time I am using YAS v11 and it's very good a week now. I used cm11 and cool ics. I like the mwakious rom for its features but I don't want sense 3.6. If I had to choose between theese I would choose YAS because I like the sense interface and its the only sense 4.1 supported by devs. You can always try yourself some roms and see which suits you. If you have any boot problems, unzip the rom, take the boot.img and flash on fastboot like the recovery, this time with "fastboot flash boot boot.img". For any aosp roms you need to downgrade your hboot and s-off your phone.

To flash other roms from 4.1Jb and up you have to s-off and downgrade your hboot. I really dont know why your camera doesn't work, did you perform clean install (wipe etc.)?? If not try to do it. For stock rom you must run the RUU for your carrier model of phone. You can find on our forums the RUU you need. I' m happy your phone is back to life.

I hope you do not mind, that I also ask a question related to yours:
I encountered a similar issue today, when I tried to flash a new ROM. I followed mhnx's instructions and updated my 4EXT recovery from 1.0.0.5 to 1.0.0.6_RC1.
My bootloader states:
*** UNLOCKED ***
SHOOTER_U PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.49.0007
RADIO-11.25.3504.06_M
OpenDSP-v.02...
eMMC-boot

Every time, when I try to flash a new ROM (including formatting all partitions except sdcard), the phone (GSM) just shows the HTC logo and nothing happens. Do you have any ideas how to fix this?

Does the log of recovery contain any errors while installing? Check the md5 of downloaded file. If you're s-off be sure to disable smartflash. Try to re-flash the recovery too.

Thank you for your answer!
When I first tried to install a new ROM (CM11 ....) I got an error, which was caused by 4EXT (--> it was still on 1.0.0.5, see error is described here). When I now try to install a new ROM (such as a CM11- or CM10.2-ROM - the files are not corrupted, I tried multiple ones), I do not get an error during the installation process - the phone simply does not go beyond the HTC logo.
Shall I flash 4EXT 1.0.0.6_RC1 again or do you prefer another recovery?

Wipe all partitions except sdcard and mount system, data and boot on mount options. Install again and see if this helps. If not I would suggest flashing a ruu and see if stock rom starts. If you want to change a recovery you will be able to flash only roms until 4.3jb. Try it and if it succesfully boot install the 4ext application and get the recovery from there.
