Right now Root Explorer is only $ 0.99 on Amazon. Get it while you can!

Sweet!

Great deal for some, that's .99 more then what i paid

root explorer vs file expert
I'm currently using File Expert, which is free, has root access, and sysro/sysrw. What, if any, would be the advantages of spending money on Root Explorer? Or is it simply personal preference and old habit?

Greatest deal I seen on the market lately! I choose root explorer because it's simplistic and yet still has a lot of customizations. If you purchase it for the $1 try it for the 15 minutes you got
Edit: so yes it's personal preference, to me.

Here's a good reason:
Root Explorer DOESN'T export your personal information every time you run it.
File Expert....
(yeah, it does.)
Ever wonder how an app as 'popular' as File Expert managed to be free in the first place?

It doesn't link to the market, so you have to got through amazon every time. This alone, is enough reason for me to shell out the extra $1.
I got swiftkey x for free, but haven't re-installed it because it I didn't back it up, and I don't feel like messing with amazon apps. Just earn the extra dollar at work -it the time spent will pay for itself

Thanks for the heads up, tor new comers about it long time ago , but now I'm no trusting the amazon app store , they rip off developers and i don't think is right

XDA members don't care, they are so cheap there asses squeak when they walk. If they can't get it for free then they don't want it.

I tried the app mentioned earlier and found it more difficult to use. Root Explorer works and it works good. It has been around a long time and is well respected and is well maintained. I also tried a free app called Total Commander which is supposed to have rw abilities, but I found it confusing and hard to use, so I was like f it, I'm just gonna buy Root Explorer. Checked on the Android Market $2.99, then checked on Amazon Appstore and it was on sale for $.99 so I bought it from them.
Not all apps are updated slower on Amazon. I have several Amazon Appstore apps and some of them update faster than the Market apps.
To the guy that says he won't use the Amazon Appstore because they ripoff devs, what are your sources on this? I would be interested in reading where devs have been ripped off.

I honestly think this was one of the very first apps I bought. Can you believe I paid full price? CRAZY!

It sucks for the free app of the day for developers but for the consumers I guess is good, but sometimes you have to think how much work they put into their apps
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

Actually, for a good app, the free app of the day deal is really good for the developer. It's advertising. Imagine, you write an app that is marked $3.99 and hardly anyone buys it so you don't really get any reviews. It hits the free app of the day deal and you get about 200 reviews. If they are positive and talk about how great the app is, when it is no longer free, people are more prone to buy it.
So don't feel too bad for devs on that deal. Without it, their app may never be purchased otherwise.
The only part that pisses me off are the idiots that think any good review of an app *they* don't like means its fake, so instead of rating the app what they truly feel they decide it is their moral imperative to "correct the balance" buy giving a decent app 1-star to counter someone 5-star app they think is fake.

Actually devs get a hefty percentage of the full cost of the app, paid directly from Amazon, when their app is chosen to be the daily free one. It's either 40 or 60 percent, but is usually a HUGE windfall for the developer. Personally, I get the free app every day, even if I have no plans to use them on any device of mine right now. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does that, and most of the time, they're apps I would NEVER have downloaded if they weren't free for me. The developers LOVE the free app system, 'money-in-their-pocket' wise.

Why not purchase the app then navigate to system, data, apps and copy the .apk to your sdcard go back to the market uninstall and get your refund...then go back and install the .apk from your card and voila you have the app. Thats what I do with root access!

See, it's tactics like that that make me want to ***** slap some people. The whole purpose of buying an app is to support the developer and encourage growth. These are not major companies producing these products. They're regular people like you and me with an idea. ****in support them if you like what they're doing.
And their prices are equivalent to a cup of coffee or a beer at the bar. It's not that bad.
As for the .99 for Root Explorer, it's a steal. Go get it! An excellent program for the price of a candy bar.

Favor to ask re: Amazon App store

Hi all. Not asking for anything that is stealing....
I am a NC user in Canada.
As of yet the Amazon appstore is not available in Canada though I have it installed on my NC it won't let me download or purchase any content for geographical reasons.
I am sure this will change soon, but in the mean time I am missing out on some nice daily deals! For example swiftkey is available free today!
I am wondering if anyone would be able to pm me the apk they download for free from the appstore. I figure if I get it for free on the day it was offered free I am not taking anything away financially from them, I am only getting someone to act as my intermediary until the appstore can work for me.
Would anyone be able to?
Would greatly appreciate it!!!
I'm fairly 100% positive that Amazon is still giving money to the publisher for every 'free' app that's downloaded through their app store, so you are still taking something financially away from the publisher, even if not from Amazon. Past that, the code is still protected and not 'free' regardless of the initial cost to the user.
Possibly but fact is I am not asking for hacked app and currently it is free. being in Canada I just font have access. I font think I am asking much.
From 1.1 Nook Color with 1.1 ghz overclock
I don't think it would work anyway as the apk for the app wouldn't be tied to your Amazon account.

Also I think Amazon can tell you're in Canada. It's the same way Hulu and other video services can tell your not in America. Unless you use a proxy then you are sol.
I tried to install the apk on my phone. It installs but when you try to change the swiftkey settings it throws an error about not having the amazon app store installed and to install the app store to use.
Has anyone tried using a usa vpn for getting apps off amazon?

thats why i cant buy it but if i have the apk on a free app i want to see if it will work
The fact that.it doesn't cost the.person downloading it anything does not suddenly make it free and available for the downloader to distribute it as they see fit. The Amazon store is the distribution method the publisher has chosen this time, if they've (Amazon or the publisher) decided that Canada isn't a place they want to sell or allow Amazon to give the app away, that's their choice, and someone giving you the app is no different than someone giving you a paid version from the Market.

I hope you never mess something up on your nook color as technically the stick image posted on xda wad nor felt released by Barnes and Noble dip you would be also doing something illegal.
There are cracked versions of this pretty program floating around but i wanted a legitimate version knowing it will only be a matter of time before the store goes live here and I will miss or on the offer.
Actually, it's not illegal to hack the NC. At least not in the US. They can void your warranty, but it's not illegal to hack it. What you are asking someone to do is illegal though.

I didn't say hacking nook was illegal. But using an .img file of the stock Rom to restore to stock is. B&N did not open source there OS version for release. That img file is not the same file as their update files. This is the whole OS to flash back to stock.
And while what I asked might have flirted in a grey area look around at what is available on xda that is normally pay software. I merely asked for a file being offered free on the day it was offered as such. If you have a problem with that make your own thread and don't [email protected] on mine.

I am afraid sideloading will not work too, as Appstore will need to authenticate your credentials first.
While Swiftkey is a great keyboard app for mobiles, I find Thumb Keyboard to work better for tablets.

Any thoughts on an app called app planet? I've heard conflicting stories just trying to get some clarification. Thanks.
App planet is highly questionable on a moral level. It is just like the market app BUT only features hacked paid apps. If you are into "stolen" apps you will enjoy app planet but be wary as some apps may contain harmful code. What you see is not always what you get. Virus and data mining are always a risk.
I hope this answers your question. Proceed with caution!

That is helpful... This is my first Android, just trying to learn as much as I can. And... Not destroying anything in the process.
My feelings... if someone can't support a developer and pay pocket change for their app that they are going to use, it's pathetic. If people feel $1-$5 is too much, maybe they shouldn't be spending money each month on a cell phone bill...
You're absolutely right... This was a conversation I had with someone last night who wanted to show off his rooted d2. I told him I was using a rooted TB and he tried to one up with this app. I felt it was a little odd to have all apps available for free and he doesn't read this site. Now I can relay the message.
The Amazon app store on the other hand offers a free app every day
i totally understand that stealing apps from applanet is wrong but i think there are still several good uses. i have used it a couple times to download apps that were no longer available in the market like rom gripper and also blocked apps like wireless tether. i also have used it to try out a paid app for more than 15 mins allowed by the official market. if i liked it, i went on the regular market and bought it! it DOESNT HAVE to be used for piracy only....

This was to help developers, I will agree, 15 minutes is a bit short. But it is needed because of the amount of people that would buy a paid app, use it for that day, then "return" it. That and i'm sure people were downloading the paid app, ripping the apk, then "returning" the app, but still having the full paid version.

The funny thing is that 15 minutes is enough time to rip the apk but not enough time to even check out an app to see if I like it or not. I support the devs but this is going to hurt devs I think. I no longer try any paid app without finding it on the web instead of the market.

Amazon Appstore Free Apps of the day

I may sound desperate, but I just wanted to suggest something:
Can someone who has access to the Amazon Appstore create a thread wherein he/she can upload and post the Free App of the Day .apk and update it everyday? Or at least post a link wherein we can download them apks, since they're free anyway?
It's just so sad for us located outside the US because we weren't blessed by such privilege. :'(
No offence intended, y'all, so please, no flaming. If you find my post offensive in any way, PM me and I'll remove it for you.
Thanks!
What you are proposing is against XDA forum rules, therefore it will never happen.
I don't believe it even works, does it? Isn't there some kind of DRM attached to the Amazon AppStore .apk files that makes sure it's attached to your Amazon account?

The point is... they are NOT FREE. They are paid apps that for a special deal, on that day only, is a free purchase via the Amazon Appstore (you can also access them from the Amazon website, but still need the Amazon appstore app to install them).
To link in any other method is to redistribute paid apps.
And it's already been posted that it's against XDA forum rules.
If the only thing stopping you from downloading what is most likely a $5 for free is a lack of Amazon account or not living in the United States, morally I see nothing wrong with that. But that's subjective, and if it's against the forum rules I suggest you just do as others said and find out what the app of the day is and go download the .apk online.
I suggest moving to the United States. It's not that bad here, promise.

So long as you don't lose your job and get sick, that is.
I much prefer the Leonard Cohen view of America ... "the cradle of the best and the worst".
For anyone who doesn't know how the "free app of the day" deal at amazon works from a developer standpoint:
Amazon will tabulate the sales and pay the developer 20% of the full list price of the app for each "free" transaction.
Essentially, Amazon buys each "free" app purchase from the developer at a reduced cost.
If you pirate the app or download it from anywhere besides Amazon, on the day it is offered, then you still burn the developer out of the money that rightfully belongs to them.
Amazon does this to drive traffic to their web site, and to score more money in advertising and hopefully repeat business. But this app is not free like other free apps - Amazon still pays the owner of that app for each person who downloads it.
Please do not do what you are suggesting. It doesn't seem like a big deal at first, but knowing this now you will see how wrong it is.
I don't find your post offensive, a lot of people probably do not know this.
Hopefully this can serve to make more people aware of how the process works with Amazon.

Installing paid apps APKs?

Ethical issues aside, would it be possible to find the .apk of a paid app and install it manually to a rooted phone for free? In other words, instead of paying for the app from the Google Play store, could I find the apk elsewhere online and install it somehow to my phone for free?
It can be done but it's not the correct-legal way...
Sent from my phone using my hands.
That's called piracy and XDA isn't the place for it.
as others mentioned u can, but xda is against piracy and i agree with them. on the other hand there are situations when the 15min refund is not enough. for ex. games, navigation apps. it takes more than 15min just to dl the additional files. so i usually try these paid apps "for free", and if im satisfied im buyin the stuff from play store, and if im not i just delete it anyway. so in the end im always buying the apps i use from play store. i recommend the app "appsales", it notifies you of discounts. i just bought 7$ games for 1$ (nfs most wanted, max payne, nova 3, gta 3) so if u like an app, buy the full from play store, suppport the dev, encourage him/her/them to build more quality stuff.
Search googlefor that app and be sure to check file size ...but its piracy and fully ileegal and i would tell to be care full
DONT JUST SAY THANKS CLICK IT

Problem is, the app that I paid for is now free. I emailed customer support about it almost 2 weeks ago and still haven't received word back. The app was good enough for you to pay for it when you paid for it, and no features have been removed. The only thing you're upset about is that now other people can get it free? It doesn't sound like you lost anything here. Why would they refund you when you had the app and used it far longer than anyone who is just using the free version now?

i think he's upset that it's free now and he paid for services that r now i guess:good:
The issue is that he paid for a fully working product, now that product has been removed from the play store and replaced by a gimped version of another product that he possibly paid for as well. I myself find this extremely wrong from the company to do this. Instead they should have left the two versions as they were and add a new free gimped one, but they wanted the good ratings from the paid one for the free one... Such bad practice

I'm a little miffed too because I paid for it, but now I have to use their free version with ads, and if I want the ad free version I have to pay again? Thats messed up to me. Make your paid version free and add back the ads, then make a "new" version that you now have to pay for? So basically I can stick with the old version (which I am), but now I don't get any updates or new features. Yes they are greedy, there have been 1 or 2 app devs that ive encountered that have made changes where previous buyers would "lose out" in some way, but they came up with some kind of way for previous buyers to redeem the new or corrected version. These guys did not....I mean didn't they already have a free version? I know they at least allowed individual forums to create their own version they could distribute freely.
+1 I've paid for 2 versions of the app already, they just taking advantage now. I won't be paying for anymore versions. Came here thinking many more would be as annoyed but not so. Tapatalks own forum has some interesting info but little care from the devs. Poor form.

I don't mind buying better apps etc but all they ever do is rebrand the same app with a feature or 2 and then ask for more money. Almost like we're paying to beta test. The arguments about buying a new copy of windows are stupid. But if people must, XP -> Vista -> 7 were significant enough changes to warrant paying for a new product IMO.
I was fooled twice, my fault but won't happen a 3rd time. If they do happen to release something amazing, I'll obtain it from a 3rd party source unfortunately.
Well I don't think you will receive a refund. This isn't even logical enought to debate.
I remain of the view that the old version was much better with the themes, and everything else
